The article focuses on the history and cultural development of the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Historical Museum dedicated a building and inaugurated exhibition programs. A city ordinance has also established the office of City Historiographer in 1843. This has led to the official recognition by the City of the value of history. In 1921, the Detroit Historical Society was formed by a small group of individuals who planned to support the work of the Burton Historical Collection.
