The article reports that Elementary Science Study (ESS) of Educational Services Inc., will be distributing the first five prepared units of study materials for wide testing in Watertown, Massachusetts. Included in each packaged unit are equipment, which is designed and produced by Macalaster Scientific Corp., for every pupil, printed materials and guides for teachers. The Inspection Cartoon and classroom packages represents the first general public showing aspect of the two years work that the ESS has been conducting.

The article studies the acquisition of concepts of light and sound in the intermediate grades by researchers in Boston, Massachusetts. The study was done during the years 1955 and 1956 with both some new research and a doctorate as aims. The pupils in this particular were grouped for various tests according to socio-economic status. The researcher prepared the teachers of the children in the areas of Light and Sound during eight workshop periods. The teachers did all of the teaching in these two areas to the children.

The article focuses on the presentation of the Sixtieth Science Education Recognition Award to Science classroom teacher Theresa Janes Lammers. All of Lammers' classroom teaching has been confined to the college classroom level. Lammers had many contributions to the field of science education. She made tremendous contributions to Westfield State College and its elementary science program, to the local community, but also to education in the state of Massachusetts. Her contributions continued until after her retirement.

The article presents information on a study related to science education in Massachusetts. The study was concerned with curriculum improvement through channels related to the pre-service and in-service education of teachers. The aim of the study was to suggest ways in which the process of utilizing pertinent materials and methods from the field of science in individual classrooms can be accelerated. The study was performed on 100 teachers teaching in the first six grades of 81 public schools in 29 communities in Massachusetts.

The article focuses on a study which was conducted to find out the status of general science and hygiene education in the junior high schools of Massachusetts. The study explores the extent to which these subjects are taught jointly and separately in Massachusetts, and the desirable conditions under which these subjects are taught. For this purpose, a questionnaire was prepared and sent out to all junior schools in the state. As per the results of the study, it can be concluded, that there seems to be no strong opinion favoring the inclusion of hygiene in the science course or of separation from it. While one group is satisfied to have the hygiene included in the general science, another group, a larger one, although not objecting its inclusion in the general science, desire hygiene courses separate from the science or in addition to that given in the science course.

The article examines the dimensionality of the selection criteria used in the Thayer Academy's summer science program in Braintree, Massachusetts. The program includes two weeks of classes followed by an eight week guided laboratory apprenticeship with a research scientist. The article presents the instruments used to select about one hundred students who are asked to come for an interview, including STEP Science, Cooperative Intermediate Algebra, the Otis Self Administering Test, high school science grades and high school math grades.
