Three distinct east to west belts of drumlins in west central New York differ on the basis of size, crest elevation, inter-drumlin elevation, number of crests, proportion of area in drumlins, angle of steepest slope, and degree of streamlining, but not in length-width ration or orientation. Variations in drumlin composition are inconclusive. The differences between belts may result from variations in glacier bed load and consequent variations in the viscosity of the glacier sole.
