This section presents several abstracts of articles related to conflict resolution that were published in various periodicals as of March 1957.

The periodical "American Sociological Review" has made a practice of printing no communications relating to articles and book reviews. In general, such communications seem to be a rather unproductive use of time and space. Reviews should emphasize the weaknesses and shortcomings of books. If a reviewer can find no basis for negative criticism, he should confine himself to a description of the methods and contents of the work. It might be a good policy to publish two reviews of a few books which seem to be significant and about which there is marked difference of opinion, rather long reviews of some, and short descriptive notices of a considerable number. This is the general policy which the present editorial board is attempting to carry out. Publishers and authors should regard it as a distinct honor to have their books reviewed somewhat at length in "American Sociological Review." However, this ideal cannot be fully reached under present conditions. To approximate, it would require a larger financial outlay than "American Sociological Review" can afford and perhaps also some change in the present culture complex of writing and publishing hooks.

The work of the U.S. Division of Foreign Labor Conditions (DFLC), U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), U. S. Department of Labor, is described in the July 1964 edition of "The Division of Foreign Labor Conditions; Its Program and Publications" (10 pages). That publication, which describes the various series and types of the Division's publications, is supplemented by "Foreign Labor Publications of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1945-June 30, 1962" (30 pages), which is arranged by areas and countries. The updating of the latter document is under consideration. In recent months, a number of improvements have been introduced in the Division's monthly periodical, "Labor Developments Abroad,"including the expansion of the explanatory material and definitions which precede the statistical tables.

The author discusses how the journal "Political Theory" came into existence, provides parameters of its objective and the assessment of its development. The author reckons that the plan of publishing a journal was materialized during a conference about political thought at Columbia University. The objective of the proponent was to publish a journal that is comprehensive, international and academic in presentation of political theory and essays. The author says that so far, contributions from graduate students still need further improvement as it just merely are summarizing the inkling of others.

The article announces that the Harvard Business Review will published six times a year beginning in January 1948. It also offers information on its bimonthly issues and subscription rates.

The article focuses on the various policies regarding the communication in the journal "American Sociological Review." There is a great deal to be said in support of a policy to publish as promptly as possible; but a bi-monthly periodical begins with an initial handicap of an additional month of delay over a periodical issued monthly. Then the volume of manuscripts received is always greater than the space capacity for publication. Delay is therefore inevitable. In fact, some periodicals in allied fields are obliged to delay publication from 12 to 24 months after receipt of manuscripts. This situation is generally true of all non-commercial and non-profit scholarly periodicals. Such periodicals are always subject to the handicaps of co-operative ventures; they are edited on a voluntary and un- paid basis and function to promote an exchange of ideas, ideas which seldom have monetary value. To those members of the Society who are interested in this problem of publications, the editors wish to call attention to another issue: the need of a monographic series.

"Arthik Unnati (Economic Progress)," the articles puiblished in the journal focuses on the rural areas, their upliftment, health of rural areas, birth control; "Hindu Mission," the articles published in the journal focuses on thecastes, religion, Indian culture; "Journal of the Social Sciences," the articles published in the journal focuses on the population in India; marriage in Hindu culture; "Quarterly Journal of the Mythic Society," the articles published in the journal focuses on the popular art, myths, aesthetics.

The article focuses on the French journals. "Annales Sociologique," "Archives de phiilosophie du droit et de sociologie juridique," "Revuede Méta physique et de Morale," "Revue de Synthése," "Revue d'histoire politique a constitutionelle," "Revue du droit public et de la science politique," "Revue Internationale de Sociologie," "Revue philosophique," " Revue Politique et Parlementaire."

This article focuses on the monograph "Rhythmic Responses of Negro and White Children Two to Six With Special Focus on Regulated and Free Rhythm Situations," by , Dorothy Van Alstyne and Emily Osborne. his monograph presents the results of a most interesting and important piece of research. The authors tested 483 children, half Negro and half whit; between 2 1/2 and 61/2 years of age. Recording the results of the tests in such a manner as to make exact scoring possible, the authors scored these children on several variations of two basic tests. One test consisted of the child's beating of blocks in time with a mechanically produced pattern. This was called regulated rhythm. The other, the child's ability to reproduce that pattern after he had heard it. This was called free rhythm. By the test in regulated rhythm, the authors were able to demonstrate the superiority of the Negro children tested over the white children by about 50 percent, with the greater difference occurring in the younger age groups. By the test in free rhythm, they demonstrated that the Negro children were superior in the simpler patterns, but were about equal in the more complicated ones.

The article presents information related to the periodical "American Sociological Review." New deadlines for material to be published in the "News and Announcements" section of the periodical will now on be the first of the month in November, January, March, May, July, and September. Material received by the first of November will be in time for the February issue, and so on. The purpose of the above change is to make it possible for issues to reach subscribers near the beginning of months with which they are labeled. The periodical welcomes news items concerning sociological activities and related concerns of members of the society, and members are urged to send in regular accounts from their departments. A number of announcements of meetings, with invitations to attend and solicitation of papers, have been omitted in the October 1952 issue of the periodical because they have arrived too late for publication before these meetings were to be held. Other material has been omitted for various reasons, of which irrelevance is the most common.
