Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates the use of mass communication and newspapers and radio by basti dwellers in Greater Delhi, India. The study used cross-cultural studies, questionnaires, and examined four basties drawn from the electoral rolls revised in preparation fir the general election in February 1967. It states that 42 percent of the respondents were literate, and 40 percent had received formal education. Results show that illiterates and neo-literates used newspapers to learn how to read, while radio is the most popular tool for entertainment.
