Purpose: This study explores the phenomenon of compassionate leadership, a promising concept in management literature. Despite significant contributions towards the understanding of its antecedents and consequences, the specific role of compassion concerning the leader behavior under extreme pressure remains unexplored. Design/methodology/approach: Drawing empirically on the case of three banks under three different logics, the authors trace how heads of banking branches, namely, middle managers, deal with the paradoxical phenomenon of integrating their human nature with the coetaneous need to achieve aggressive objectives. The authors analyzed interviews using the interpretive research method (Hatch and Yanow, 2003). Findings: The authors identified that the logic of savings banks and credit cooperatives, together with specific human elements, created a healthier environment to develop compassionate behaviors compared to commercial banks. The authors found coherence when linking the institutional message of putting the spotlight on a personalized treatment of customers, and the middle manager compassionate actions towards customers and subordinates. Research limitations/implications: Suggestions for future theorizing and research are advanced, along with constructive practical implications to rehumanize the dark side of banking for both employees and customers. Originality/value: The findings provided in this paper are original because they provide further evidence of linking business logics with compassionate leadership of middle managers and its impact on employees and customers. This study aims to analyze the effect of brand image and sharia label on saving decisions on customers of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk KCP Jember Gajah Mada. Bank Syariah Indonesia is one of the largest Islamic financial institutions in Indonesia that provides banking products and services according to sharia principles. Factors such as brand image and the existe nce of sharia labels are considered to have an important role in influencing customer decisions to save at Islamic banks. The research method used is quantitative with data collection techniques through questionnaires distributed to Bank Syariah Indonesia customers at KCP Jember Gajah Mada. The data obtained were analyzed using multiple linear regression to determine the effect of each independent variable on saving decisions. The results showed that brand image, and sharia label simultaneously and partially had a significant effect on customer saving decisions. Brand image has a positive and significant effect, which shows that the positive image of Islamic banks can increase customer interest in saving. In addition, the sharia label, which shows compliance with sharia principles, also makes a significant contribution in influencing customer decisions. In conclusion, brand image, and sharia label are important factors that influence customer decisions in saving at Bank Syariah Indonesia. Therefore, the bank is expected to continue to strengthen the brand image, provide education about sharia products, and maintain the integrity of the sharia label to increase customer loyalty and trust. Although small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) contribute considerably to Germany's carbon emissions, regional savings and cooperative banks − SMEs' most important financiers − hardly consider this aspect in lending to these businesses. However, given Germany's commitment to climate neutrality by 2045, suitable approaches for injecting climate finance into these SME lending processes are greatly required. Against this background, the paper at hand aims to introduce the specific case of regional banks into the debate on green finance and green banking and suggest future research in this context. In discussing the state of research on the peculiarities of regional savings and cooperative banks, we outline the resulting opportunities and limitations for climate impact assessments in SME lending. We argue that while the dual bottom-line orientation of regional banks in Germany precludes them from applying simple positive or negative screenings, their in-depth knowledge about local clients and circumstances enables them to be active and engaging partners for the green transformation of SMEs. Nonetheless, we explain why developing solutions to utilise this knowledge for climate finance by integrating climate impact assessments into routine lending processes remains a particularly challenging task. This study investigated a network of financial institutions in Korea using the Korea Consumer Credit Panel (KCCP). It is assumed that each consumer borrows from multiple institutions, so those institutions share risks from the same consumers regardless of the quality or type of loan. We constructed a financial network comprising those institutions and computed a contagion index based on their interconnections using a weight of probability of default for the individual borrowers. We found strong connection between banking institutions and credit card firms because of the convenience of making small loans using credit cards. However, with a weighted probability of default to the linkages among institutions, the connections between banking institutions and savings banks, non-credit card finance corporations and merchant banks are stronger than others, while banking institutions hold a central position and are exposed to the largest amount of loans individually. The contagion index hit a peak in 2013Q1 and then fell rapidly, before fluctuating at a relatively low level from 2016 to 2017Q2. The results enabled authorities to monitor systemic risk from the level of consumer credit, while accounting for specific types of consumers and their probability of default. Penny banks were Victorian institutions intended to encourage thrift among working-class people. Initially considered a model of its type, the Birmingham Penny Bank (1850–1865) collapsed because of mismanagement, bad investments, and self-dealing by its lower-middle-class directors. Thousands of depositors, including women and children, lost part of their savings as a result. An investigation followed to apportion blame for the failure. A key question was the level of liability and compensation owed by the bank's elite former officers and trustees, including William Scholefield MP, all of whom had stepped down some thirteen years earlier. Commentators argued that the trustees had betrayed the trust of the depositors by failing to publicise their departure from the supposedly philanthropic institution. Alberto Campo Baeza has always defended the idea that project design is research. The author of this article has chosen one of the architect's projects as a case to analyse this sentence: the Caja de Granada savings bank. Not only because it is the largest building ever built by Alberto Campo Baeza, but also because of the complexity and richness of themes that can be analysed in it, and which draw on his precursors. In his articles we have a source of information about the process he uses to design. However, we will start from the analysis of his sketchbooks to analyse it directly. This article will focus on the research behind the Granada project, more precisely on its genealogy: it will be seen how the case cannot be considered isolated, as it is part of another global research process. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) has ruled that the association of savings banks must be registered in both the commercial register of the acquiring savings bank and the acquired savings bank in accordance with § 28 (1) sentence 1 no. 2 of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Savings Bank Act (SpkG M-V). The local court had previously rejected the registration of the association because it did not see a significant interest of legal transactions in the registration. The BGH overturned this decision and referred the case back to the local court for reconsideration. The BGH emphasized that only legally required entries are generally made in the commercial register, but there can also be exceptions if there is a significant need for information. Efficiently managing loans granted can have an immediate effect on the profitability and viability of a financial institution. Considering this, this study determined the impact of past-due loans on the profitability of the Peruvian Municipal Savings and Loan Banks during the period 2022. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, correlational-causal methodology was used, which employed documentary analysis and the design of a data sheet. The population and sample consisted of 11 Municipal Savings and Loan Associations, which have been approved and are inspected by the Superintendence of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Fund Administrators. A positive and moderate correlation of Rho = 460 and a significance level greater than 0,05 (0,154 > 0,05) was found, that is, overdue loans have a positive, but not significant, impact on the profitability of these financial institutions. The behaviors of these variables allow us to conclude that having more past-due loans will not always result in lower profitability, since there may be other factors that help mitigate this negative impact. The importance of adapting to an ever-changing financial environment is highlighted, emphasizing the influence of financial globalization and the need to implement administrative systems that effectively respond to these challenges. Through a methodology that combines qualitative and quantitative techniques, the study sought to evaluate the impact of administrative strategies on operational efficiency and user satisfaction, with the aim of identifying opportunities for improvement and promoting more effective and responsible management. The bail‐out of the Spanish financial system was the largest in the Eurozone. The Spanish savings banks were the main direct recipients of public support between 2010 and 2012 and most of the bail‐out money was transferred to the savings banks after a series of mergers and acquisitions were completed among these entities. This article analyses the evolution of the savings banks in the years of economic growth preceding the crisis and their performance in the early aftermath of the 2007 crash using previously unexplored data from the annual financial statements of the 45 savings banks. We conclude it is possible to observe distinct behaviours among the savings banks during the boom years and we estimate the largest part of the bail‐out money corresponds to losses registered by a small number of savings banks that were already severely impaired before the merger process got under way.
