The crystallization behavior, melting characteristics, and semicrystalline morphologies of wollastonite-filled recycled polypropylene (R-PP) composites without and with β-nucleating agent were investigated in this study. The crystallization temperature (Tc) of 20 mass% wollastonite-filled R-PP composite is 0.4 °C higher than that of R-PP, suggesting that the adding of wollastonite has little nucleation effect on crystallization of R-PP. However, 0.3 mass% TMB-5 significantly increases the Tc of R-PP and induces a large number of β-crystals in wollastonite-filled R-PP composites. For calcium pimelate-supported wollastonite (β-W) filled R-PP composites, the Tc and the relative β-phase content of R-PP increase with increasing addition amount of β-W (from 1 to 20 mass%). As a result, wollastonite-filled R-PP composites with β-phase content higher than 85% can be obtained by adding 0.3 mass% TMB-5 or 20 mass% β-W, which provides an effective method for realizing high value-added and low-cost recycling of R-PP.

Human activities input a large amount of carbon and nitrogen nutrients into water, resulting in inland freshwater becoming an important source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Agricultural drainage ditches are the main transport route of non-point source pollution. Understanding the rules for how greenhouse gas emissions from drainage ditches impact the environment can help to accurately estimate the greenhouse effect of agricultural systems. However, current research mainly focuses on the effect of different measures on the migration and transformation process of pollutants in drainage ditches. The process of greenhouse gas emissions when the non-point source of pollution is transported by drainage ditches is still unclear. In this study, the influence of aeration on the pollution load and GHG emission process of a drainage ditch in a paddy field was explored. The following conclusions were drawn: Aeration reduced the content of nitrate nitrogen in the water but had no significant effect on the content of ammonium nitrogen and it reduced the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of water by 24.9%. Aeration increased the potential of hydrogen (PH), dissolved oxygen (DO) and oxidation–reduction potential (ORP) of water and reduced the total organic carbon content, microbial carbon content and soluble carbon content of the soil in the sediment. Aeration reduced the N2O and CH4 emission fluxes and increased the CO2 emission fluxes in the drainage ditch, but it reduced the greenhouse effect generated by the drainage ditch by 33.7%. This study shows that aeration can reduce both the pollution load and the greenhouse gas emission flux in drainage ditches.

The brittleness of ethyl cellulose (EC) film limited its full applications, and the addition of plasticizers is one of the most common methods to reduce its brittleness. However, the mechanical properties are normally dropped with the addition of plasticizers. Herein, cellulose nanocrystal (CNC) was chosen as a reinforcing agent to improve its mechanical properties. CNC was firstly extracted from the tobacco-stem and then modified by epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) via ring-opening grafting to obtain epoxidized soybean oil grafting CNC (ECNC). The grafting effect was evaluated by FTIR and XPS. After that, the films of ECNC/EC nanocomposites were prepared by the solution-casting method, and their mechanical, thermal and optical properties and fracture morphology were investigated. The results showed that at 4 phr loading of ECNC, the tensile strength of the nanocomposite film was up to 43.7 Mpa (about twice as much as that of the EC film plasticized by ESO), and the elongation at break was not influenced. Moreover, a higher thermal decomposition temperature was achieved for the ECNC/EC films. Besides, owing to the good dispersion, ECNC had no significant impact on the transparency, and the films presented high light transmittance in the visible light region.
