4. Exact Dynamical Correlations of Hard-Core Anyons in One-Dimensional Lattices

Abstract

The dynamical correlations of a strongly correlated system is an essential ingredient to describe its non-equilibrium properties. We present a general method to calculate exactly the dynamical correlations of hard-core anyons in one-dimensional lattices, valid for any type of confining potential and any temperature. We obtain exact explicit expressions of the Green's function, the spectral function, and the out-of-time-ordered correlators (OTOCs). We find that the anyonic spectral function displays three main singularity lines which can be explained as a double spectrum in analogy to the Lieb-Liniger gas. The dispersion relations of these lines can be given explicitly and they cross at a \emph{hot point} $(q_m,\omega_m)$, which induces a peak in the momentum distribution function at $q_m$ and a power-law singularity in the local spectral function at $\omega_m$. We also find that the anyonic statistics can induces spatial asymmetry in the Green's function, its spectrum, and the OTOC. Moreover, the information spreading characterized by the OTOCs shows light-cone dynamics, asymmetric for general statistics and low temperatures, but symmetric at infinite temperature. Our results pave the way toward studying the non-equilibrium dynamics of hard-core anyons and experimentally probing anyonic statistics through spectral functions., Comment: 6 figures, accepted by Phys. 5. Exact dynamical correlations of nonlocal operators in quadratic open Fermion systems: a characteristic function approach

Abstract

The dynamical correlations of nonlocal operators in general quadratic open fermion systems is still a challenging problem. Here we tackle this problem by developing a new formulation of open fermion many-body systems, namely, the characteristic function approach. Illustrating the technique, we analyze a finite Kitaev chain with boundary dissipation and consider anyon-type nonlocal excitations. We give explicit formula for the Green's functions, demonstrating an asymmetric light cone induced by the anyon statistical parameter and an increasing relaxation rate with this parameter. We also analyze some other types of nonlocal operator correlations such as the full counting statistics of the charge number and the Loschmidt echo in a quench from the vacuum state. The former shows clear signature of a nonequilibrium quantum phase transition, while the later exhibits cusps at some critical times and hence demonstrates dynamical quantum phase transitions., Comment: 30 pages,7 figures

9. Orbital driven two-dome superconducting phases in multiorbital superconductors

Abstract

We theoretically study the superconductivity in multiorbital superconductors based on a three-orbital tight-banding model. With appropriate values of the nearest-neighbour exchange $J_{1}^{\alpha \beta}$ and the next-nearest-neighbour exchange $J_{2}^{\alpha \beta}$, we find a two-dome structure in the $T_{c}-n$ phase diagram: one dome in the doping range $n<3.9$ where the superconducting (SC) state is mainly $s_{x^{2} y^{2}}$ component contributed by inter-orbital pairing, the other dome in the doping range $3.9

Abstract

In a recent Letter [S. Ganeshan, E. Barnes, and S. Das Sarma, Phys. Rev. Lett. 111, 130405 (2013)], Ganeshan et al. present a general framework to classify the resonance structure of Landau-Majorana-Stuckelberg-Zener interferometry into three basic categories distinguished by whether these resonances correspond to periodic or nonperiodic quantum evolution. In this Comment, we show that their identification of the real resonances in the regime of small drive amplitude is incorrect.

UV-driven weathering is a key process leading to the degradation of plastics in the environment but also the formation of potentially harmful plastic fragments such as micro- and nanoplastic particles. Estimates of the environmental persistence of plastic pollution, and the formation of fragments, will need to take in account plastic dispersal around the globe, as well as projected UV radiation levels and climate change factors.image

This Assessment Update by the Environmental Effects Assessment Panel (EEAP) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) considers the interactive effects of solar UV radiation, global warming, and other weathering factors on plastics. The Assessment illustrates the significance of solar UV radiation in decreasing the durability of plastic materials, degradation of plastic debris, formation of micro- and nanoplastic particles and accompanying leaching of potential toxic compounds. Micro- and nanoplastics have been found in all ecosystems, the atmosphere, and in humans. While the potential biological risks are not yet well-established, the widespread and increasing occurrence of plastic pollution is reason for continuing research and monitoring. Plastic debris persists after its intended life in soils, water bodies and the atmosphere as well as in living organisms. To counteract accumulation of plastics in the environment, the lifetime of novel plastics or plastic alternatives should better match the functional life of products, with eventual breakdown releasing harmless substances to the environment.

Abstract

Background: Photodegradation of plant litter plays a pivotal role in the global carbon (C) cycle. In temperate forest ecosystems, the exposure of plant litter to solar radiation can be significantly altered by changes in autumn phenology and snow cover due to climatic change. How this will affect litter decomposition and nutrient dynamic interacting with forest canopy structure (understorey vs. gaps) is uncertain. In the present study, we conducted a field experiment using leaf litter of early-fall deciduous Betula platyphylla (Asian white birch) and late-fall deciduous Quercus mongolica (Mongolian oak) to explore the effect of change in autumn solar radiation on dynamics of litter decomposition in a gap and understorey of a temperate mixed forest. Results: Exposure to the full-spectrum of not only significantly increased the loss of mass, C, and lignin, but also modified N loss through both immobilization and mineralization during the initial decomposition during autumn canopy opening, irrespective of canopy structure and litter species. These effects were mainly driven by the blue-green spectral region of sunlight. Short-term photodegradation by autumn solar radiation had a positive legacy effect on the later decomposition particularly in the forest gap, increasing mass loss by 16% and 19% for Asian white birch and Mongolia oak, respectively. Conclusions: Our results suggest that earlier autumn leaf-fall phenology and/or later snow cover due to land-use or climate change would increase the exposure of plant organic matter to solar radiation, and accelerate ecosystem processes, C and nutrient cycling in temperate forest ecosystems. 41. Optimizing cooling approach of spiral coil for an electromagnetic steel teeming system of ladle in continuous casting production

Abstract

To address the current issues with the conventional slide gate system utilized in the steel teeming process, a unique electromagnetic induction controlled automated steel teeming (EICAST) technology has been developed. Cooling means of spiral coil in this technology is directly related to its service life. Firstly, heat transfer processes of air cooling and spray cooling were compared and analyzed. Secondly, the impacts of water temperature, water flow rate and air flow rate were examined in order to maximize the spray cooling effect. To maintain coil temperature at a low value consistently throughout the entire thermal cycle process of the ladle, a combined cooling mode was finally employed. Numerical simulation was applied to examine the coil temperature variation with different cooling systems and characteristics. Before coil operation, spray cooling is said to be more effective. By controlling the water flow rate and air flow rate, the spray cooling effect is enhanced. However, water temperature has little or no impact when using spray cooling. Air cooling during the secondary refining process and spray cooling prior to coil operation are combined to further lower coil temperature. When the direction of the spray cooling is from bottom to top, the coil temperature is lowered below 165 °C. A practical induction coil cooling plan was provided for the EICAST technology’s production process.

42. Influence Factors Analysis of Fe–C Alloy Blocking Layer in the Electromagnetic Induction-Controlled Automated Steel Teeming Technology

Abstract

In the electromagnetic induction-controlled automated steel teeming (EICAST) technology of ladle, the height and location of the blocking layer are critical factors to determine the structure size and installation location of induction coil. And, they are also the key parameters affecting the successful implementation of this new technology. In this paper, the influence of the liquid steel temperature, the holding time and the alloy composition on the height and location of the blocking layer were studied by numerical simulation. The simulation results were verified by 40 t ladle industrial experiments. Moreover, the regulation approach of the blocking layer was determined, and the determination process of coil size and its installation location were also analyzed. The results show that the location of the blocking layer moves down with the increase in the liquid steel temperature and the holding time. The height of the blocking layer decreases with the increase in the liquid steel temperature; however, it increases with the increase in the holding time. The height and location of the blocking layer can be largely adjusted by changing the alloy composition of filling particles in the upper nozzle. When the liquid steel temperature is 1550 °C, the holding time is 180 min and the alloy composition is confirmed, the melting layer height is 120 mm, and the blocking layer height is 129 mm, which are beneficial to design and installation of induction coil. These results are very important for the industrial implementation of the EICAST technology.
