Abstract

Borosilicate glasses are traditionally challenging to model using atomic scale simulations due to the composition and thermal history dependence of the coordination state of B atoms. Here, we report a new empirical interatomic potential that shows a good transferability over a wide range of borosilicate glasses--ranging from pure silicate to pure borate end members--while relying on a simple formulation and a constant set of energy parameters. In particular, we show that our new potential accurately predicts the compositional dependence of the average coordination number of boron atoms, glass density, overall short-range and medium-range order structure, and shear viscosity values for several borosilicate glasses and liquids. This suggests that our new potential could be used to gain new insights into the structure of a variety of advanced borosilicate glasses to help elucidate composition-structure-property relationships--including in complex nuclear waste immobilization glasses.

48. Autonomous Rail Surface Defect Identification Based on an Improved One-Stage Object Detection Algorithm.

Abstract

The rail is an important component of track infrastructure, which withstands repeated wheel loading directly, and its condition is related to the safety of train operation. Thus, accurately identifying the size and location of surface defects in rails helps to optimize maintenance strategies, including adjusting regular monitoring and conducting timely repairs. This approach not only mitigates risks but also enhances work efficiency, which has real economic value and brings safety guarantees. This paper aims to build a data-driven model for rail surface defect identification using photos taken in real lines. Two modules, multidirection rectangular convolution (MRC) and cross-scale (CS) feature extraction, are proposed. The results indicate that the detection and classification of multiple rail surface defects can be automated simultaneously with greater accuracy. Among the defects, spalling sees the most significant boost, and its average detection precision increases from 44.1% to 67%. Moreover, the accuracy for detecting a bright contact band and corrugation exceeds 90%, with 0.995 and 0.915, respectively. Compared with the original You Only Look Once algorithm version 8, the mean of average precision (mAP) of the improved network increases from 85.3% to 88.1% when both models are trained for 300 epochs. Additionally, the precise location and size information of the rail surface defects are obtained through postprocessing, providing support for further intelligent track maintenance. Abstract

Vairimorpha (Nosema) ceranae is a single-cellular fungus that obligately infects the midgut epithelial cells of adult honeybees, causing bee microsporidiosis and jeopardizing bee health and production. This work aims to construct the full-length transcriptome of V. ceranae and conduct a relevant investigation using PacBio single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology. Following PacBio SMRT sequencing, 41,950 circular consensus (CCS) were generated, and 25,068 full-length non-chimeric (FLNC) reads were then detected. After polishing, 4387 high-quality, full-length transcripts were gained. There are 778, 2083, 1202, 1559, 1457, 1232, 1702, and 3896 full-length transcripts that could be annotated to COG, GO, KEGG, KOG, Pfam, Swiss-Prot, eggNOG, and Nr databases, respectively. Additionally, 11 alternative splicing (AS) events occurred in 6 genes were identified, including 1 alternative 5′ splice-site and 10 intron retention. The structures of 225 annotated genes in the V. ceranae reference genome were optimized, of which 29 genes were extended at both 5′ UTR and 3′ UTR, while 90 and 106 genes were, respectively, extended at the 5′ UTR as well as 3′ UTR. Furthermore, a total of 29 high-confidence lncRNAs were obtained, including 12 sense-lncRNAs, 10 lincRNAs, and 7 antisense-lncRNAs. Taken together, the high-quality, full-length transcriptome of V. ceranae was constructed and annotated, the structures of annotated genes in the V. ceranae reference genome were improved, and abundant new genes, transcripts, and lncRNAs were discovered.
