Abstract

Subcutaneous adipose tissue was monitored with microdialysis techniques to determine if athletic humans have higher catecholamine-stimulated adipose tissue lipolysis after submaximal physical work compared to sedentary humans. The results show that lipolytic sensitivity to epinephrine was the same in athletic and sedentary subjects. However, athletic subjects exhibited higher epinephrine-stimulated blood flow which could be responsible for higher lipolysis in this class.
