Aims: Celiac disease (CD) is frequent amongst patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Since there is a disagreement on the optimal interval and frequency to perform screening tests for CD among diabetic patients, this study aimed to evaluate these issues amongst patients with T1DM., Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in seven referral diabetic centers in different cities of Iran from January 2020 to January 2021. Data belonging to 106 patients who were affected by both T1DM and CD was collected. The time interval between CD diagnosis and diabetes (IBCD), the age of diabetes onset, and any associated diseases, symptoms, and family history of T1DM and CD were recorded and analyzed., Results: Results show that 45% of the patients with CD were diagnosed during the first year of diabetes onset; furthermore, 18% and 16% of the patients with CD were diagnosed in the second or third year after being diagnosed with diabetes. In addition, another 18% of patients with CD were diagnosed during the fourth till the eighth year after diabetes onset. Moreover, there was a negative relationship between the age of T1DM diagnosis and IBCD. Most participants were asymptomatic at the time of CD diagnosis., Conclusions: Screening tests to detect CD amongst patients with T1DM should continue for at least eight years after the initial T1DM diagnosis, especially those affected at a younger age., (Copyright © 2021 Primary Care Diabetes Europe. Objective: This study examined the relationship between explicit and implicit measures of hopelessness and self-injurious behavior (defined here as self-harming or suicidal actions and thoughts)., Method: A community sample of 267 participants completed explicit measures of hopelessness (Beck's Hopelessness Scale and a Feeling Thermometer), an implicit measure of hopelessness (Hopelessness Implicit Association Test), and a self-report measure of their history of self-injurious behavior., Results: The results showed that high levels of hopelessness, measured both explicitly or implicitly, were associated with a past and recent history of self-injury. However, there was also an interaction between the implicit and explicit measures such that explicit hopelessness was more strongly predictive of self-injury in people with high levels of implicit hopelessness., Conclusion: The findings show that the implicit measurement of hopelessness can help predict past and recent self-injury beyond what explicit measures of hopelessness currently achieve and could be used in the assessment of risk of both self-harming and suicidal behaviors., (© 2021 The Authors. Background: Diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM) is one of the childhood diseases with growing prevalence. Various accompanying autoimmune diseases were seen with type 1 diabetes. The most common autoimmune diseases with T1DM are autoimmune thyroiditis and celiac disease. In some reports, autoimmune hepatitis has been reported in association with DM-1., Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate autoimmune hepatitis autoantibodies in children with T1DM., Materials and Methods: In this crosssectional study, 202 children with T1DM were evaluated (47.5% were males and 52.5% were girls). Liver enzymes, autoimmune hepatitis related autoantibodies such as anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA), anti-smooth muscle (ASMA) and anti liver and kidney microsomal antibodies (LKM-1) were measured. Liver ultrasound was done for participants and biopsy of liver was taken for children with increased echogenicity of the liver, hepatomegaly or elevated liver enzymes. Results analyzed by statistical software spss-16, Descriptive statistics and chi-square test, paired T-TEST. Level of less than 5% was considered statistically significant., Results: In 6 patients ANA and in 4 patients (2%) ASMA was positive,1 patient was ASMA positive but ANA negative. None of the patients were Anti LKM-1 positive. 3 patients had positive ANA and ASMA, and increased liver echogenicity on ultrasound simultaneously. Histological evaluation was showed that 2 patients had findings in favor of autoimmune hepatitis., Conclusion: Auto antibodies were positive in 10 cases. ANA was positive in 6 (2.97%) of all cases. ASMA was positive in 4 (1.98%) cases. Increased echogenicity was found in 3 cases. Histological evaluation showed 2 patients had biopsy confirmed autoimmune hepatitis. AIH-2 was not seen among our cases.
