We investigate the generation of an entangled electron pair emerging from a system composed of two quantum dots attached to a superconductor Cooper pair beam splitter. We take into account three processes: Crossed Andreev Reflection, cotuneling, and Coulomb interaction. Together, these processes play crucial roles in the formation of entangled electronic states, with electrons being in spatially separated quantum dots. By using perturbation theory, we derive an analytical effective model that allows a simple picture of the intricate process behind the formation of the entangled state. Several entanglement quantifiers, including quantum mutual information, negativity, and concurrence, are employed to validate our findings. Finally, we define and calculate the covariance associated with the detection of two electrons, each originating from one of the quantum dots with a specific spin value. The time evolution of this observable follows the dynamics of all entanglement quantifiers, thus suggesting that it can be a useful tool for mapping the creation of entangled electrons in future applications within quantum information protocols., Comment: To be published in Physical Review A

We present a method to estimate the amount of squeezing and temperature of a single-mode Gaussian harmonic oscillator state based on the weighted least squares estimator applied to measured Fock state populations. Squeezing and temperature, or equivalently the quadrature variances, are essential parameters states used in various quantum communication and sensing protocols. They are often measured with homodyne-style detection, which requires a phase reference such as a local oscillator. Our method allows estimation without a phase reference, by using for example a photon-number-resolving detector. To evaluate the performance of our estimator, we simulated experiments with different values of squeezing and temperature. From 10,000 Fock measurement events we produced estimates for states whose fidelities to the true state are greater than 99.99% for small squeezing (r < 1.0), and for high squeezing (r = 2.5) we obtain fidelities greater than 99.9%. The realism-based nonlocality (RBN) is a recently introduced measure that differs from the well-known Bell's nonlocality. For bipartite states, the RBN concerns how much an element of reality associated with a given observable is affected upon local measurements on a subsystem. Here, we present an analytical proof for the unitary invariance of the RBN and that it presents a monotonous behavior upon the action of unital and non-unital local quantum noise. We illustrate our results by employing the two-qubits Werner state and thermal quantum correlated states. We show how the RBN is limited by the initial equilibrium temperature and, especially, that it decays asymptotically with it. These results also corroborate the hierarchy relationship between the quantifiers of RBN and global quantum discord, showing that RBN can capture undetectable nonlocal aspects even for non-discordant states. Quantum state tomography aims to determine the quantum state of a system from measured data and is an essential tool for quantum information science. When dealing with continuous variable quantum states of light, tomography is often done by measuring the field amplitudes at different optical phases using homodyne detection. The quadrature-phase homodyne measurement outputs a continuous variable, so to reduce the computational cost of tomography, researchers often discretize the measurements. We show that this can be done without significantly degrading the fidelity between the estimated state and the true state. This paper studies different strategies for determining the histogram bin widths. We show that computation time can be significantly reduced with little loss in the fidelity of the estimated state when the measurement operators corresponding to each histogram bin are integrated over the bin width., Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures

Maximum likelihood quantum state tomography yields estimators that are consistent, provided that the likelihood model is correct, but the maximum likelihood estimators may have bias for any finite data set. The bias of an estimator is the difference between the expected value of the estimate and the true value of the parameter being estimated. This paper investigates bias in the widely used maximum likelihood quantum state tomography. Our goal is to understand how the amount of bias depends on factors such as the purity of the true state, the number of measurements performed, and the number of different bases in which the system is measured. For that, we perform numerical experiments that simulate optical homodyne tomography under various conditions, perform tomography, and estimate bias in the purity of the estimated state. We discuss several methods to produce superpositions of optical coherent states (also known as "cat states"). Cat states have remarkable properties that could allow them to be powerful tools for quantum information processing and metrology. A number of proposals for how one can produce cat states have appeared in the literature in recent years. We describe these proposals and present new simulation and analysis of them incorporating practical issues such as photon loss, detector inefficiency, and limited strength of nonlinear interactions. We present a method for multipartite entanglement purification of any stabilizer state shared by several parties. In our protocol each party measures the stabilizer operators of a quantum error-correcting code on his or her qubits. The parties exchange their measurement results, detect or correct errors, and decode the desired purified state. We give sufficient conditions on the stabilizer codes that may be used in this procedure and find that Steane's seven-qubit code is the smallest error-correcting code sufficient to purify any stabilizer state. An error-detecting code that encodes two qubits in six can also be used to purify any stabilizer state. We discuss the long distance transmission of qubits encoded in optical coherent states. Through absorption these qubits suffer from two main types of errors, the reduction of the amplitude of the coherent states and accidental application of the Pauli Z operator. We discuss the effects of imperfect photon detectors suffering from loss and noise on the reliability of linear optical quantum computers. We show that for a given detector efficiency, there is a maximum achievable success probability, and that increasing the number of ancillary photons and detectors used for one controlled sign flip gate beyond a critical point will decrease the probability that the computer will function correctly. The influence of turbulent effects on a fluid flow through a (pseudo) porous media is studied by numerically solving the set of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the $\kappa$-$\epsilon$ model for turbulence. The spatial domains are two-dimensional rectangular grids with different {\it porosities} obtained by the random placing of rigid obstacles. The objective of the simulations is to access the behavior of the generalized friction factor with varying Reynolds number. A good agreement with the Forchheimer's equation is observed.
