1. Napabucasin Inhibits Proliferation and Migration of Glioblastoma Cells (U87) by Regulating JAK2/STAT3 Signaling Pathway.

Abstract

Background and Objectives: Napabucasin (NP) was discovered as a natural compound that suppresses cancer stemness by inhibiting the signal transducer and activator of the transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway. In this study, the anti-proliferative and apoptotic effects of NP and the chemotherapy agent doxorubicin (DX), a natural compound, on glioblastoma cells (U87) were investigated. Materials and Methods: In this study, the effects of NP and DX on cell viability on the glioblastoma U87 cell line were determined by MTT test. Expressions of Jak2/Stat3 genes were examined by qRT-PCR. Apoptosis was evaluated by Hoescht 33258 staining. Moreover, NP, its antagonistic–synergistic effects and IC50 doses of the combined treatment of DX were determined. Results: Napabucacin and doxorubicin were found to inhibit glioblastoma U87 cell proliferation. It was determined that NP applied in the range of 0.3–1 µM and its combination with DX killed almost all of the glioblastoma cells in 48 h of application. Additionally, it was observed that Jak2/Stat3 expressions downregulated. Conclusions: These results show that NP suppresses the proliferation of glioblastoma cells. It was shown that the combination of NP and DX can prevent invasion of the U87 cell line due to its Jak2/Stat3 inhibitory effect. Since it can suppress Jak2/Stat3, an important cancer cell proliferation pathway in glioblastoma, the combination of NP and DX can be used as an alternative treatment agent. But no synergistic effect of NP and DX on the U87 cells of the glioblastoma cell line was observed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

4. Resveratrol showed anti-inflammatory effects on hippocampus via suppressing NFκB.

Abstract

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the damage to the brain caused by external blow or jolt to the head or body. TBI secondarily induces cell damage in the hippocampus. This study aimed to investigate effects of resveratrol treatment histological examination and nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) expression in hippocampus after TBI. Materials and methods: Twenty-four rats were assigned to three groups: sham, TBI and TBI + Resveratrol. TBI was conducted by dropping a 50 g weight from a 1-meter height from a tube to the head of animals. 20 mg/kg resveratrol was orally administered to rats after TBI. Blood was collected to measure malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) contents. Cerebral tissues were processed for histopathology and furtherly for immunohistochemical analysis. Results: MDA content was significantly increased and GSH value were significantly decreased in TBI group compared to sham group. Resveratrol treatment significantly improved biochemical scores in TBI + Resveratrol group. Normal histological appearance was observed in hippocampal sections of sham group. In TBI group, neurons in hippocampus were degenerated. Their nuclei were pyknotic. Other neurons and supportive neuroglial cells in hippocampal proper and dentate gyrus were also disrupted. Hippocampal proper integrity was lost with vascular dilatation. NFκB was upregulated in hippocampal neurons of TBI group. Conclusions: Resveratrol treatment alleviated pathologies and downregulated NFκB expression in hippocampus. TBI caused adverse alterations in free radicals’ balance system and histological structures of hippocampus. Abstract

Testicular torsion (TT) is the most important cause of acute scrotum in childhood. It is an emergency surgical problem that can lead to loss of organ if left untreated. The aim of treatment is to reduce or eliminate the torsion/detorsion damage. The affect of antioxidants is one of the methods to be used for this reason. In this study, a special bioflavonoid and quercetin, an antioxidant known to protect against oxidative damage, were used to avoid experimentally caused torsion/detorsion damage in rats. 32 male Sprague Dawley rats, 12 weeks old, weighing 250–300 g, were used in the study.Rats were randomized into 4 groups. No surgical procedure was performed in the control group. 5-hour ischemia was achived by applying torsion to the left testicle in the torsion group. After 5 hours of ischemia, a 2-hour reperfusion was applied in the torsion/detorsion group. In the torsion/detorsion+quercetin group, 2 hours of reperfusion was applied after 5 hours of ischemia and i.p. quercetin was injected.  A significant decrease was observed in the quercetin-administered group in terms of spermatocyte degeneration and inflamation. There was a decrease in dilatation data in the quercetin group, but it was not statistically significant. Quercetin, which has a strong antioxidant effect, has been shown to have positive effects on experimentally induced torsion/detorsion damage. 9. Evaluation of the effects of Momordica charantia on tibial defect injury in rats

Abstract

We aimed to examine the histological and immunohistochemical effects of Momordica charantia on bone repair, which provides positive regulation such as blood sugar, blood pressure, antilipidemic, anticarcinogenic, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, and tissue regeneration in rats with tibial bone defect. Momordica charantia (MC) (commonly called bitter melon; Goya; bitter apple; bitter gourd; bitter squash; balsam-pear; with many more names listed below) is a tropical and subtropical vine of the family Cucurbitaceae, widely grown in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean for its edible fruit. Its many varieties differ substantially in the shape and bitterness of the fruit.  In this study, 32 male Sprague Dawley rats, 12 weeks old and weighing 250-300gr, were used. 8 rats in each group randomly, 1st group control, 2nd group defect (Sham), 3rd group defect + MC group (14 days), 4th group defect + MC group (28 days) separated into the group. In this experimental study, 600 mg/kg/day MC (bitter melon) extract was mixed into the drinking water of groups 3 and 4 and administered to rats by oral tube. One 6 mm diameter cylindrical defects were created in the body of the right tibia bone. No action was taken in Group 1. In Group 2, only tibial defect was made. For 14 days in group 3 and 28 days in group 4, 600 mg/kg/day MC extract was mixed with drinking water and given by oral gavage. Elevated Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and Myeloperoxidase (MPO) decreased. In groups 3 and 4, osteoblastic activity and osteocyte development increased, while osteopontin and osteonectin expression were found to be positive, while osteoclastic activity decreased compared to the sham group. It is a good antioxidant in the groups where MC is applied. It has been observed that it can have a positive effect on bone repair. Abstract

WOS:000765843100001 OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the appropriate intraoral repair procedures in PEEK (polyetheretherketone) restorations when there is a veneer fracture. STUDY DESIGN: The study groups were formed according to the presence or absence of fractured veneer material of PEEK restorations. PEEK specimens (N = 91) were prepared with CAD/CAM in dimensions of 5 x 5.4 x 13 mm and divided into 13 groups including the positive control group. 5000 thermocyclic was applied to the specimens, and then the repair bond strength (RBS) was made at a speed of 0.5 mm/min. The fracture surfaces of the specimens were examined under a stereomicroscope. SEM, EDX, XRD, AFM, and surface contact angle analyses were performed in terms of roughened surfaces of PEEK (N = 16). One-way ANOVA and independent sample t test were used for data analysis (alpha = 0.05). RESULTS: The efficiency of surface treatment, the roughness and wettability of the acid and Co-Jet groups have increased. Acid etching was found to be the most effective surface treatment. The RBS values of the Super-Bond groups in the repair procedures were found to be higher than the Visio.link group and were statistically significant (p = 0.002). When evaluating failure modes, the mode most encountered among all groups was the mixed mode, and least was the cohesive mode. CONCLUSION: The presence or absence of fractured veneer during the repair of PEEK-based restorations does not affect the values of repair bond strength, and RBS values were also not statistically significant.

Abstract

Many pathologies can occur in the periportal space and manifest as fluid accumulation, visible in Computed tomography (CT) images as a circumferential region of low attenuation around the intrahepatic portal vessels, called periportal halo (PPH). This finding is associated with different types of hepatic and extra-hepatic disease in humans and remains a non-specific sign of unknown significance in veterinary literature. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of PPH in a population of patients undergoing CT examination and to assess the presence of lesions related to hepatic and extra-hepatic disease in presence of PPH. CT studies including the cranial abdomen of dogs and cats performed over a 5-year period were retrospectively reviewed. The prevalence of PPH was 15% in dogs and 1% in cats. 143 animals were included and the halo was classified as mild, moderate and severe, respectively in 51%, 34% and 15% of animals. The halo distribution was generalized in 79 cases, localized along the second generation of portal branches in 63, and along the first generation only in one. Hepatic disease was present in 58/143 and extra-hepatic disease in 110/143 of the cases. Main cause of hepatic (36%) and extra-hepatic disease (68%) was neoplasia. Associations between halo grades and neoplasia revealed to be not statistically significant (p = 0.057). In 7% of animals the CT examination was otherwise unremarkable. PPH is a non-specific finding, occurring in presence of a variety of diseases in the examined patient population.

Abstract

WOS:000765832700001 OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) transmission risk and the oral hygiene behaviors of patients using removable dentures. STUDY DESIGN: A total of 220 removable dental prosthesis users were included in the study. Among them, 110 users diagnosed with the coronavirus disease were included in the case group and 110 unaffected users were included in the control group. A survey regarding their hygiene, prosthesis removal, and handwashing attitudes was completed by the participants. Measurable variables are presented as mean +/- standard deviation (SD) and categorical variables as numbers and percentage (%). RESULTS: Individuals in the case group had a significantly lower rate of handwashing with soap and water before prosthesis removal. Additionally, no significant difference was found between the frequencies of den ture removal between the 2 groups. Furthermore, individuals who removed their prostheses more than 2 times a day had an increased rate of handwashing with soap and water. CONCLUSION: To prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, proper hand hygiene is important among individuals wearing removable dentures. Individual hand hygiene habits can affect transmission of the virus. Furthermore, dentists should educate their patients wearing removable dentures regarding proper hand hygiene and denture care to prevent further spread of the virus.

Abstract

Purpose: In this clinical study, it was aimed to prospectively evaluate the cochlear nerve with brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) in terms of audiological ailments in patients with COVID-19. Although the relationship of COVID-19 with tinnutus and hearing loss has been investigated since the day this infectious respiratory disease emerged, its relationship with BERA has not been fully demonstrated from a neurological perspective. Methods: It was carried out on a group of patients who had COVID-19 in the last 6 months between February and August 2021 in Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital. Patients between the ages of 18-50, who applied to the otorhinolaryngology and neurology clinic and had COVID-19 in the last 6 months, were selected. The COVID-19 group of our study consisted of 30 patients, 18 males and 12 females, who had had COVID-19 disease in the last 6 months, and 30 healthy individuals, 16 males and 14 females, as the control group. Results: In patients with COVID-19, the evaluation of the destruction of the cochlear nerve with BERA showed that there was a statistically significant prolongation in I-III and I-V interpeaks at 70, 80 and 90 db nhl. Conclusions: Statistically significant prolongation of especially I-III and I-V Interpeaks in BERA showed that COVID-19 has the potential to cause neuropathy. We believe that the BERA test should be considered in the neurological evaluation of cochlear nerve damage in patients with COVID-19 as a differential diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Purpose To investigate the role of Rosmarinic acid (RA) in the prevention of traumatic brain injury and the immunohistochemical analysis of IBA-1 and GFAP expressions. Methods Healthy male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups consisting of 10 rats. Groups were as follows; control group, traumatic brain injury (TBI) group, and TBI+RA group. After traumatic brain injury, blood samples were taken from the animals and analyzed with various biochemical markers. And then IBA-1 and GFAP expressions were evaluated immunohistochemically. Results Significant results were obtained in all biochemical parameters between groups. Immunohistochemical sections showed IBA-1 not only in microglia and macrophage activity but also in degenerative neurons in blood vessel endothelial cells. However, GFAP reaction and post-traumatic rosmarinic acid administration showed positive expression in astrocytes with regular structure around the blood vessel. Conclusion Rosmarinic acid in blood vessel endothelial cells showed that preserving the integrity of astrocytic structure in the blood brain barrier may be an important antioxidant.

Abstract

In 1944, the physiologist Leão while studying epilepsy in the rabbit noticed a sudden temporary cessation of electrocorticographic (ECoG) activity accompanied with a large negative slow potential change recorded by extracellular electrodes, that is later known as spreading depolarizations (SDs). The depression of the brain electrical activity was slowly propagating through the cerebral cortex. The mechanism of propagation is still controversial. SDs and seizures are following each other interchangeably, yet the puzzle needs more investigation to be clarified. SDs have an obvious effect on blood-brain barrier integrity mainly through transcellular and paracellular routs, but not much known about that especially following traumatic brain injury (TBI). The cortical spreading depolarization (CSD) and the depression of brain activity have been recognized following a variety of neurological diseases and brain injuries. CSD has been studied in animal models and recently in humans, and it has been recognized and described as a massive neuronal depolarization accompanied with high level of disturbances in transmembrane ion gradients and significant changes in cerebral blood flow1-3. Although there is a considerable amount of literatures on SD have been done since 1944, but the biophysical mechanism of SD, the long term effect on the brain structures and functions, and it is role in different disorders are still incompletely understood. Here, we summarize the history of spreading depolarization and the most accepted hypothesis for mechanism of initiation and propagation of that phenomenon. Most importantly, we present the most updated research on the relationship and interaction between spreading depolarization and traumatic brain injuries, seizure, bloodbrain barrier, neurovascular coupling, and other neurological conditions. Purpose: Ganoderma lucidum, a kind of mushroom used for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities, was investigated in the present study for its possible healing effect on calvarial defects with bone grafts. Methods: Wistar male rats (n = 30) were divided into 3 groups: 1) the control (defect) group (n = 10), 2) defect and graft group (n = 10), and 3) defect, graft, and G. lucidum treated group (n = 10). The G. lucidum was administered to the rats at 20 mL/kg per day via gastric lavage. Results: In the defect and graft group, osteonectin positive expression was observed in osteoblast and osteocyte cells at the periphery of the small bone trabeculae within the graft area. In the defect, graft, and G. lucidum treated group, osteonectin expression was positive in the osteoblast and osteocyte cells and positive osteonectin expression in new bone trabeculae. The expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) was positive in the inflammatory cells, fibroblast cells, and degenerated collagen fibril areas within the defect area. Conclusion: This study shows that, with its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, G. Lucidum is an important factor in the treatment of calvarial bone defects.

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate histologically and immunohistochemically the bone regeneration after application of simvastatin on tibial bone defects in rats. Methods: Sixty Wistar albino rats were divided into 3 groups as control (6 mm tibial bone defect), defect + graft (allograft treatment), and defect + graft + simvastatin (10 mg/kg/day) for 28 days. Results: Histopathological examination revealed inflammation in control group (defect group), congestion in blood vessels, and an increase in osteoclast cells. In defect + graft group, osteoclastic activity was observed and osteocyte cells were continued to develop. In defect + graft + simvastatin group, osteocytes and matrix formation were increased in the new bone trabeculae. Osteopontin and osteonectin expression were positive in the osteclast cells in the control group. Osteoblasts and some osteocytes showed a positive reaction of osteopontin and osteopontin. In defect + graft + simvastatin group, osteonectin and osteopontin expression were positive in osteoblast and osteocyte cells, and a positive expression in osteon formation was also seen in new bone trabeculae. Conclusion: The simvastatin application was thought to increase bone turnover by increasing the osteoinductive effect with graft and significantly affect the formation of new bone.

Ratas Sprague Dawley fueron sometidas a TBI con un dispositivo de caída de peso usando un impacto de peso de 300 g-1 m. Se formaron los siguientes grupos: control, trauma y trauma + Ganoderma lucidum. Siete días después de la lesión cerebral, las ratas experimentales fueron decapitadas después de la administración intraperitoneal de ketamina HCL (0,15 ml / 100 g de peso corporal). Abstract

Purpose: Hemangioblastomas (HBs) are highly vascular tumors, constituting 2%-3% of central nervous system (CNS) tumors. Surgery is a treatment option for HBs. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the demographic, clinical, and radiological findings of patients with HBs who were operated on via microsurgical technique at our clinic and to determine the findings specific to HBs and evaluate their pathological findings and confirmation. Methods: We evaluated age, gender, initial complaints and duration of 100 patients (50 female and 50 male patients), presence of cranial nerve deficits, magnetic resonance imaging, data (localization, presence of hydrocephalus, tumor size, enhancement pattern, and cystic and solid component features), resection rates, pathological findings (grade, Ki-67 ratio, and staining results), recurrence, special conditions of patients, and the final status of patients in this study. Results: Mean age was 39.08 ± 14.77 years and 66.7% of the patients presented with cerebellar findings. Five of the cases were located in the brainstem, five were located in the cerebellopontine angle, and two were in the cerebellar cortex. In all patients, gross total resection was performed using arteriovenous malformation repair. Conclusions: Surgical intervention of small and cystic tumors can be performed safely with en bloc resection along with preoperative detailed imaging, improved microsurgical techniques, and an extensive understanding of anatomical and vascular structures. On the contrary, patients with a brainstem invasion and solid structure present surgical difficulties due to arteriovenous malformation-like vascularizations; therefore, gross total resection is the optimal treatment in HBs. Abstract

SUMMARY: Spinal cord injury causes neuron nerve fiber loss. The aim of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective, inflammatory and angiogenetic effects of melatonin on rat spinal cord injury (SCI). For spinal cord injury, a standard weight reduction method was used that caused moderate severity of injury (100 g / cm force) at T10 Melatonin (10 mg/kg intraperitoneally ) was administered for 10 days after trauma. Each group consisted of 10 animals. of these, six were used for biochemical and four were used for the evaluation of histological analysis. Spinal cord samples were taken for histological examination or determination of malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. Spinal cord injury and melatonin treated group were compared. Melatonin administration in spinal cord injury increased the activity of glial cells in the radial and funicular cells and ependymal cells and increased the activity of glial cells and also showed a positive effect on inflammation and vascular endothelial cells in synaptic connections in the nerve fibers undergoing spinal injury endothelial degeneration It is thought that it can regulate the degenerative effect which is caused by both the inflammatory effect and the angiogenic effect which will have a positive effect on the neural connection. RESUMEN: La lesión de la médula espinal (SCI) provoca daño en la fibra nerviosa, que puede conducir a alteraciones motoras y sensitivas, incluso la muerte. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar los efectos neuroprotectores, proinflamatorios y proangiogénicos de la melatonina en un modelo de SCI inducida en rata. Para tal efecto se utilizaron dos grupos: Grupo 1 (n:10) se le indujo una SCI, mediante el método de reducción de peso estándar (100 g/cm fuerza), provocando una lesión de severidad moderada. Grupo 2 (n:10) inducción SCI más aplicación de T10 Melatonina (10 mg / kg v.i.) durante 10 días después del trauma. Muestras de seis animales de cada grupo fueron usados para análisis bioquímicos y los otros cuatro para la evaluación histológica. Se tomaron muestras de médula espinal para el examen histológico y para la determinación de niveles de malondialdehído (MDA) y glutatión (GSH), actividad mieloperoxidasa (MPO) y se comparó la lesión de la médula espinal y el grupo tratado con melatonina. La administración de melatonina en la lesión de la médula espinal aumentó la actividad de las células gliales en las células radiales, funiculares y ependimocitos. Ademas mostró un efecto positivo sobre la inflamación y angiogénesis en las conexiones sinápticas en las fibras nerviosas sometidas a lesión espinal. Pudiendo este participar en la regulación del efecto degenerativo causado, principalmente, por acción de angiogénesis e inflamación local.

Abstract

PURPOSE: Posterior fossa tumors (PFTs) include medulloblastomas, atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors, pilocytic astrocytomas, ependymomas, and brainstem gliomas. We evaluated patients with surgery at our clinic, comparing epidemiological, clinical, radiological, and pathological characteristics of medulloblastoma and ependymoma to identify factors that might assist preoperative diagnosis, help to develop treatment algorithms, and have prognostic value after surgery. METHODS: Pediatric patients from 0 to 16 and young adults from 16 to 29 years of age with surgery for pathologically confirmed ependymomas or medulloblastomas between January 2014 and January 2020 were eligible. The study included 19 patients, seven with ependymoma (37%) and 12 with medulloblastoma (63.2%). The ependymoma patients were 5.29 ± 5.85 years of age, the medulloblastoma patients were 11.58 ± 8.17 years of age, and 16 patients (84%) were children. RESULTS: Fifteen patients (79%) presented with signs of increased intracranial pressure and four (21%) presented with cerebellar findings. MRI found that 74% (14) of the PSTs were located in the midline, including six of the seven ependymomas (86%) and eight of the 12 medulloblastomas (67%). Enhancement was significantly greater in medulloblastomas compared with ependymomas (p = 0.022). In according to pathology results; synaptophysin, NSE, chromogranin and 50% GFAP positivity were observed in medulloblastoma. Ependymomas were S100 (43%) and vimentin (29%) positive. Ependymoma patients were younger than medulloblastoma patients and more were female. Conclusions: There were no significant differences in the clinical findings, but ependymomas were larger and had greater rates of enhancement and spinal metastasis compared with medulloblastomas. Background: An abscess is a pocket of pus that forms around the root of an infected tooth. In this study, we aimed to investigate the extracellular matrix proteases ADAMTS1, ADAMTS4, osteonectin, and osteopontin expressions in abscess fluid cells in jaws after implantation and prosthesis operation.Materials and Methods: In this clinical study, abscess fluids belonging to 17 patients who applied to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery were examined histopathologically and immunohistochemically. In the histopathological examination of the abscess fluid, separation of chromatin bridges in the nuclei of neutrophil cells, pyknosis and apoptotic changes in the nucleus, degenerative change in the cytoplasm, and occasional vacuolar structures were observed.Results: The positive reaction of ADAMTS1 was observed in fibroblast cells, plasma cells, and macrophage cells. The positive reaction of ADAMTS4 was observed in fibroblast cells, osteoclast cells, and some apoptotic leukocyte cells. Osteopontin expression in osteoclastic cells and polymorphonuclear cells was defined as positive. Osteonectin expression was positive in polymorphonuclear leukocytes and hypertrophic fibroblast cells.Conclusions: ADAMTS1 and ADAMTS4 may induce bone destruction with its distinctive property in alveolar bone resorption, which promotes the activation of osteoclasts, which can accelerate the destruction of the extracellular matrix in the acute phase. Background: This examination was performed to research the advantage of the antioxidant impact of Potentilla fulgens on spinal cord injury (SCI) in rats.Materials and Methods: In the SCI model of this examination, the tolerably serious lesion was performed at the L1-L2 spinal segmental level. SCI animals were given P. fulgens 400 mg/kg/day, intraperitoneally. At 7 days post-lesion, exploratory rats were executed after intraperitoneal administration 7 ketamine HCL (0.15 mL/100 g body weight). Spinal cord specimens were taken for histological examination or assurance of malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels and myelope- roxidase (MPO) action. SCI caused a remarkable decline in spinal cord GSH content, trailed by noteworthy increments in MDA levels and MPO action.Results: Degenerative changes in some multipolar and bipolar nerve cells and pyknotic changes in the nuclei of glial cells were likewise noticed. Atretic parietal cephalocele is associated with increased incidence of intracranial anomalies.. Parietal cephaloceles comprise about 1% of all cerebrospinal congenital malformations and 10% of cephaloceles. Background: Nicotine is associated with increased incidence of periodontal disease and poor response to therapy. This article aimed at identifying the expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2 (MMPs2) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) proteins on extracellular matrix, fibrous distribution and angiogenetic development in periodontitis caused by nicotine effects on periodontal membrane.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, rats were divided into nicotine and control groups. While the rats in the nicotine group (n = 6) were administered 2 mg/kg nicotine sulphate for 28 days, the animals in the control group (n = 6) were only administered 1.5 mL physiologic saline solution subcutaneously for 28 days.Results: Histological sections were prepared and immunohistochemically stained for MMP2 and VEGF. The sections stained with Trichrome-Masson were observed under light microscope. VEGF and MMP2 immunoreactivity of periodontal gingiva and dentin was assessed by immunohistochemical staining.Conclusions: Nicotine reduces MMP production, disrupts collagen synthesis and causes periodontitis. Lisansüstü tezlerin elektronik ortamda toplanması, düzenlenmesi ve erişime açılması konusuna ilişkin yök'ün 18.06.2018 tarihli yönergesine istinaden artık bu tarihten sonra gizlilik şartı aranmayan bütün tezler erişime açılacaktır. Corpus callosum alan ve boyut olarak geniş bir spektrumda Magnetik Resonans Görüntüleme (MRG) yöntemi ile izlenebilmektedir. Fakat bu alan ve boyutların sınırları tam olarak belirlenememiştir. Anatomi ve Radyodiagnostik Anabilim dallarında yapılan çalışmalarda farklı yaş gruplarında el kullanım dominantlığı ve cinsiyet faktörü ile corpus callosum boyutları arasında bir ilişki kurulmaya çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, alan ve boyut ölçümleri erişkin bireylerde el kullanım dominantlığı ve cinsiyet faktörü dikkate alınarak corpus callosum morfolojisinde nasıl bir farklılığın olabileceği araştırıldı. İncelemeler spin eko sekanslarıyla elde edilen T1 ağırlıklı görüntülerle cranial midsagittal kesitlerde yapıldı. Olguların tümü, 1 Tesla (T) gücünde SIEMENS EXPERT MR sistemi ile görüntülendi. Gruplar arasındaki parametreler student-t testi ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, corpus callosum'a ait uzunluk parametrelerinde tüm gruplarda istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir sonuç elde edilemedi. Corpus callosum'a ait alan parametrelerinde ise; sol elini kullanan grubun anterior ve posterior corpus callosum gövde alanı ile isthmus alanları sağ elini kullananlara göre daha büyük bulunup farkın anlamlı olduğu saptandı. Sol elini kullanan grup içinde cinsiyet faktörünün önemli olmadığı görüldü. Sağ elini kullanan grup içinde erkeklerin rostrum ve isthmus alanlarının bayanlara oranla daha büyük olduğu tespit edildi. Sol elini kullanan bayanlar ile sağ elini kullanan bayanlar arasındaki parametreler arasında anlamlı bir farkın olmadığı ortaya çıktı. Erkekler arasında aynı parametreler değerlendirildiğinde anterior ve posterior corpus callosum gövde alanlarının sol elini kullanan erkeklerde daha büyük olduğu tespit edildi. El kullanımına bakılmaksızın bayanlar ile erkekler arasındaki parametreler karşılaştırıldığında erkeklerde rostrum alanı ile posterior corpus callosum alanının daha büyük olduğu belirlendi Corpus callosum'un subgrupları üzerine yapılan bu çalışmada el kullanımı ile cinsiyet faktörünün erişkin bireylerde CC alanı ve boyutları üzerinde bir farklılık yarattığı ve bu farklılıkların cinsiyet ve el kullanım tayininde ayırt edici bir özelliğinin olduğu sonucuna varıldı. All subjects were scanned on midsagittal slices 1 Tesla Siemens Expert MR imaging scanner. The values of the parameters in all groups were compared by Student t test. In result, the length parameters of the corpus callosum in all groups weren't statistically significant. As to the area measurements of the corpus callosum; anterior, posterior and isthmus regions of the corpus callosum were determined more larger in sinistrals than dextrals. And also, The values of the parameters were statistically significant. In our study, It was seen that the sex wasn't important in sinistrals. Rostrum and isthmus regions of the corpus callosum in dextrals men more larger than dextrals women. Furthermore, It was realized that the values of the parameters weren't important between sinistrals women and dextrals women. When the same parameters were evaluated in men, anterior and posterior regions of the corpus callosum were larger in sinistrals men. Regardless of handedness, the values of the parameters were compared, rostrum and posterior regions of the corpus callosum were more larger in men than women. In this study, carried out on the subgroups of the corpus callosum, handedness and sex factors in adult person make up a differentation on the area and size of the corpus callosum. Finally, these differentations may reflect handedness and sex-specific differences.
