THIN FILM SOLAR CELLS ,CdTe, CIS and Related Ternary and Quaternary Thin Film Solar Cells - Abstract
29th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 1872-1875, The issue of metastability in Copper Indium Gallium (Di)-Selenide (CIGS) solar cells has been widely reported, although the underlying mechanisms are not yet well understood. It is known that Zinc Oxysulfide (Zn(O,S)) buffered CIGS cells show light- and heat- induced metastabilities. Light soaking improves the cell efficiency; however, storage in the dark relaxes the cells back to a state with distorted current-voltage curves and lower efficiencies. This paper investigates the effect of thermal ageing on metastability for CIGSSe/Zn(O,S) thin-film solar cells. In comparison to the relaxation of the control devices, post-ageing dark storage showed an acceleration of cell efficiency relaxation for devices that underwent 105 °C thermal ageing over 1000 h, which was recoverable with light soaking. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy analyses revealed that thermal ageing resulted in an overall increase in the S/S+O ratio of the Zn(O,S) buffer layer. Consequently, this implies a widened band gap of Zn(O,S) and increased conduction band offset at the CIGSSe/Zn(O,S) interface in the aged cells, which impedes charge transport through this interface.

- Abstract
The present study aims to determine the in vitro antiproliferative and antioxidant activities of various extracts from the leaves of Melastoma malabathricum using various established in vitro assays. The aqueous extract inhibited the proliferation of Caov-3 and HL-60 cell lines, while the chloroform extract exhibited antiproliferative activity against the Caov-3, HL-60, and CEM-SS cell lines. The methanol extract demonstrated antiproliferative activity against more cell lines, including the MCF-7, HeLa, Caov-3, HL-60, CEM-SS, and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines. Interestingly, all extracts did not inhibit the proliferation of 3T3 cells, thus indicating their noncytotoxic properties. Unlike the chloroform extracts, the aqueous and methanol extracts of M malabathricum (20, 100, and 500. μg/ml) produced high antioxidant activity for the superoxide scavenging assay with only the 500. μg/ml aqueous and methanol extracts exhibited high activity for the 2,2-diphenyl -1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging assay. The total phenolic content recorded for the aqueous, methanol, and chloroform extracts were 3344.2 ± 19.1, 3055.1 ± 8.7, and 92.5 ± 7.3. mg/100. g of gallic acid, respectively. The M malabathricum leaves possessed potential antiproliferative and antioxidant activities that could be attributed to its high content of phenolic compounds.

Abstract: Here we report a simple technique for the preparation of three-dimensional (3D) macroporous zinc oxide (ZnO) film (inverse opal) with periodic submicron spherical holes arranged in a close-packed structure. Polystyrene (PS) latex spheres of 200nm diameter were first assembled on indium-tin-oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates using a vertical convective self-assembly method. The interstitial spaces between PS latex spheres were infiltrated with ZnO by galvanostatic cathodic deposition using simple aqueous zinc nitrate electrolyte maintained at 338K. The 3D macroporous periodic ZnO film was obtained by heat treatment at 600°C to remove the PS template. Field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed a well-formed, regular 3D periodic porous structure which consists of spherical holes arranged in a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure. These spherical holes have dimensions within the size disparity of the latex spheres used to form the initial opal template. UV–Vis reflection analysis proved the successful infiltration with the respective diffraction peaks observed for the PS template, ZnO–PS composite opal and inverse ZnO opal, indicating the existence of a photonic band gap (PBG) in these structures. This consistent with the calculated photonic (111) pseudo band gap. The efficient photoluminescence characteristic of the deposited ZnO film is also reported. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

- Abstract
Acinetobacter baumanniiis a Gram negative, strictly aerobic clinical pathogen causing mostly nosocomial infections globally. The DNA of an isolate from the blood of a local septicemic patient was sequenced using the Illumina GA IIx. The draft genome generated is 4,178,008bp with a G+C content of 42%. From the annotation results, 47 resistance determinants including 16 multidrug resistance (MDR) genes were identified. The data may be accessed via the GenBank WGS master accession number APWV00000000.

Background The European Atherosclerosis Society Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Studies Collaboration (FHSC) global registry provides a platform for the global surveillance of familial hypercholesterolaemia through harmonisation and pooling of multinational data. In this study, we aimed to characterise the adult population with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia and described how it is detected and managed globally. Methods Using FHSC global registry data, we did a cross-sectional assessment of adults (aged 18 years or older) with a clinical or genetic diagnosis of probable or definite heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia at the time they were entered into the registries. Data were assessed overall and by WHO regions, sex, and index versus non-index cases. Findings Of the 61 612 individuals in the registry, 42 167 adults (21 999 [53.6%] women) from 56 countries were included in the study. Of these, 31 798 (75.4%) were diagnosed with the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network criteria, and 35 490 (84.2%) were from the WHO region of Europe. Median age of participants at entry in the registry was 46.2 years (IQR 34.3-58.0); median age at diagnosis of familial hypercholesterolaemia was 44.4 years (32.5-56.5), with 40.2% of participants younger than 40 years when diagnosed. Prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors increased progressively with age and varied by WHO region. Prevalence of coronary disease was 17.4% (2.1% for stroke and 5.2% for peripheral artery disease), increasing with concentrations of untreated LDL cholesterol, and was about two times lower in women than in men. Among patients receiving lipid-lowering medications, 16 803 (81.1%) were receiving statins and 3691 (21.2%) were on combination therapy, with greater use of more potent lipid-lowering medication in men than in women. Median LDL cholesterol was 5.43 mmol/L (IQR 4.32-6.72) among patients not taking lipid-lowering medications and 4.23 mmol/L (3.20-5.66) among those taking them. Among patients taking lipid-lowering medications, 2.7% had LDL cholesterol lower than 1.8 mmol/L; the use of combination therapy, particularly with three drugs and with proprotein convertase subtilisin-kexin type 9 inhibitors, was associated with a higher proportion and greater odds of having LDL cholesterol lower than 1.8 mmol/L. Compared with index cases, patients who were non-index cases were younger, with lower LDL cholesterol and lower prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular diseases (all p, Pfizer Independent Grant for Learning Change [16157823]; Amgen; Merck Sharp Dohme; Sanofi-Aventis; Daiichi Sankyo; Regeneron; National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Imperial Biomedical Research Centre, UK; NIHR; Czech Ministry of Health [NU20-02-00261]; Canadian Institutes of Health Research; Austrian Heart Foundation; Tyrolean Regional Government; Gulf Heart Association, The EAS FHSC is an academic initiative that has received funding from a Pfizer Independent Grant for Learning & Change 2014 (16157823) and from investigator-initiated research grants to the European Atherosclerosis Society-Imperial College London from Amgen, Merck Sharp & Dohme, Sanofi-Aventis, Daiichi Sankyo, and Regeneron.
