We investigate the links between the technological transformation of firms and employee control over working time. We conduct EU-wide analysis at the meso-level by relating information from the European Company Survey 2019 (Eurofound and Cedefop) with the Labour Force Survey ad hoc module 2019 (Eurostat). This dataset allows analysing the technological transformation of firms as a relationship between three types of investments (in R&D, digital technologies and learning capacity of the organisation) that spur innovation outputs. We then study the consequences of the technological transformation on the spread of unfavourable working time arrangements, distinguishing between individual and organisation-oriented arrangements. Our model considers the direct effects of investments in
Digital technologies adoption and use andLearning capacity of the organisation and the mediating role of firms’ innovation strategies. Results indicate that theLearning capacity of the organisation is directly associated with more individual-oriented working time flexibility, but entails higher organisation-oriented working time flexibility. The effect ofDigital technologies adoption and use depends instead on firms’ innovation strategy: product innovation leads to more employee control over working time, while marketing innovation has the opposite outcome. Process and organisational innovations yield mixed consequences buffering employees from organisation-oriented working time flexibility in more time-constrained work environments. The very intensive development of e-commerce and changing consumer behavior in the United States have provoked an unprecedented increase in freight traffic. This trend is increasing every year. Existing logistics models sometimes demonstrate the inability to effectively cope with the increased workload, which necessitates a rethink of traditional approaches to business organization in the area under consideration. There is no common position in the scientific community regarding optimal scaling strategies for logistics companies in the context of digital transformations. A number of researchers advocate the priority of technological modernization, while others focus on strengthening regional partner networks. The indicated contradiction is aggravated by the lack of knowledge of synergetic effects when integrating various options for action. The purpose of the study is to identify key success factors in building and scaling a logistics business in the United States through the prism of technological transformation of the industry and changes in market conditions. It is noted that companies integrating elements of classical logistics with digital platform solutions demonstrate an increase in the profitability of operations. At the same time, the critical success factor is not the volume of investments in technological modernization, but the ability to create effective synergy between various parts of the entrepreneurial model. The author’s view on the options for the development and scaling of logistics entrepreneurship in the United States is proposed. The article is of value to the heads of logistics companies, investors considering the possibility of entering this sector in the United States, as well as researchers dealing with the digital transformation of the analyzed industry. more...

The digital entrepreneurship ecosystem has emerged as a transformative paradigm, reshaping traditional business structures and fostering a digitally-centric economy. This study examines the intricate dynamics within digital entrepreneurship by exploring the intersection of technological innovation, market fluidity, and entrepreneurial adaptability. Digital entrepreneurship extends beyond conventional models, requiring entrepreneurs to engage with sophisticated digital tools, platforms, and data-driven strategies. By drawing on theoretical frameworks from innovation studies, platform economics, and ecosystem theory, this paper aims to delineate the critical elements that define and sustain digital entrepreneurial ventures. The analysis addresses how digital entrepreneurship not only capitalizes on technology but also navigates unique challenges, such as heightened competition, data privacy concerns, and the accelerated pace of digital transformation. Additionally, the study highlights the role of supportive ecosystems—comprising venture capital, regulatory bodies, and digital infrastructure—in facilitating sustainable digital ventures. Through an integrative approach, the research emphasizes the need for a holistic understanding of digital entrepreneurship, considering both the micro-level decisions of entrepreneurs and the macro-level impacts of digital transformation on economic development. Ultimately, this paper contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital entrepreneurship by outlining strategic implications for aspiring digital entrepreneurs and policy recommendations for fostering a resilient digital economy. more...

17. False Conscience: Sustainability and Smart Evolution—Between Law and Power.
- Author
-
Mattei, Ugo
- Abstract
The contribution describes the legal phenomenon as a playing field characterized by a progressive regression of the law, understood as a sovereign will from top to bottom, both in the vision of formalist legal positivisms in continental Europe and in realist terms, in the United States. Soft law represents the main strategy to subordinate the law to the interests of the economy, elasticizing environmental law, making it favorable to the market, reducing ecology to the simplistic metric of CO2 emissions. The consequence is a retreat of the statist vertical normativity of law which is not replaced by a de facto power granted to those who control the technology, built by design to close spaces for pluralism and democratic action, in the interest of surveillance and concentrated power in private and government oligopolies. The author concludes by advocating the urgency for genuinely innovative categories, particularly in the legal education, such as the commons, capable of including sustainability into a "new ecological jurisprudence committed to inclusion and solidarity rather than exclusion and struggle". Transformations aimed at shaping advanced technological environment are necessary to maintain competitiveness and develop production enterprises in constantly changing market conditions. Technological transformation of the enterprise implies a set of steps aimed at introducing information and communication, resource-saving and other technologies, so that the enterprise will be able to put out innovative goods, reach serious organizational improvement in business and comply with fast growing needs of market. The article gives the author’s classification of transformation processes according to their speed and necessity of conducting, at the same time a model of technological transformation of industrial enterprises is put forward. The model includes 4 lines of transformation: production processes, purchase and sale operations, organization of work space and finance processes. Through analyzing benefits of technological transformations it becomes clear that they could speed up work operations, cut excessive steps and resource spending, as well as improve the quality of customer service and efficiency of enterprise functioning in general. The principle challenge of shaping the advanced technological environment at enterprises is absence of support of the part of top management and ordinary workers, high cost of introducing innovation and threat of data storage security. Practical significance of research findings is connected with possibility to use them in finding strategic lines and policy of technological transformation of industrial enterprises. more...

The paper deals with the understanding of government strategies for regulating the ICT industry. The purpose of the study is to rationalise the directions of government regulation of the ICT industry in Ukraine in the context of technological transformation of the economy. Using the methodology of descriptive statistics, the authors revealed the rapid growth of the number of employees in the ICT industry in Ukraine. The authors conclude that, from the point of view of state regulation, given the fact that employment has proved to be the main factor in the success of exports, it is necessary to prevent the outflow of labour from Ukraine. This is confirmed by the competitive advantages gained by Ukrainian ICT workers in the global market, namely: price – the cost of Ukrainian coders' services is close to the prices of Indian coders and seven times less than the cost of coders' services in the US; diversity and high quality of technological competencies that allow flexible implementation of high-level ICT projects; its own research and development base, as well as materials and technologies for the implementation of complex knowledge-intensive projects, flexibility in the use and distribution of necessary resources; cultural and geographical proximity to Europe. Based on this, strategies for interaction between the state and the ICT sector are being developed. First, the state needs to create favourable conditions for the sustainable development of the industry, including reforming legal norms, improving investment policy, modernising labour legislation, strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights, and ensuring the return of labour from abroad. Second, to create comfortable conditions to reduce the outflow of intellectual resources abroad and strengthen Ukraine as a brand in the IT sector in the eyes of the international community. The main strategies for the formation of mechanisms for state support of information services are as follows: the emergence of a modern IT infrastructure accessible to all, improving the quality of information services; a strategy for creating a regulatory framework for the effective use of the network economy; a strategy for creating state indicators of the development of the network economy; a strategy for creating information security in network systems. more...

- Abstract
The advancement of maritime transportation technology is a strategic driver of the sustainable oceanic economy, known as the blue economy. This study examines how technological changes in maritime transport, such as automation, IoT, and autonomous vessels, impact operational efficiency, logistics costs, and trade access. Using a qualitative descriptive analysis, the findings show that adopting advanced technology in maritime transport speeds up goods circulation, reduces delivery times, and lowers logistics costs, thereby optimizing the blue economy. The implications for the blue economy are manifold, encompassing augmented transport efficiencies, the sustainable exploitation of marine resources, the fostering of technology-driven marine sectors, and the amplification of international trade accessibility. Nonetheless, impediments including regulatory shifts, initial capital investments, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities persist as salient considerations in the endeavor to technologically revolutionize maritime transportation. By comprehending the repercussions of technological transformation within maritime conveyance, stakeholders are empowered to formulate judicious policies and adaptive business strategies to optimize the blue economy concomitant with the technological progressions evident in maritime transportation.

PurposeThe objective of this study is to explore the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) development on the sports industry labor market, the ways in which AI has influenced the demand for labor, created new job opportunities, and impacted existing job roles.MethodologyIt refers to the inductive approach in the spirit technological determinism theory. It is based on the literature review and written qualitative, semi-structured interviews (N = 14) with sports human resources, management, and technology professionals (purposive sampling). Analysis involved inductive coding and line-by-line analytics of the data.FindingsThe labor market implications of AI in the sports industry are multifaceted. New job roles are likely to emerge, demanding a blend of AI expertise, data-analysis skills, and sports domain knowledge. Professionals in roles such as sports data analysts and marketing experts may find increasing opportunities. However, certain jobs undergo transformation as AI automates routine tasks. It requires individuals to upskill or transition to roles that require a deeper understanding of AI. This necessitates the creation of responsibilities focused on ethical AI governance and oversight.OriginalityIt is important to research the impact of AI dissemination on the sports industry labor market in a holistic manner because the effects of AI are complex and far-reaching. While there are potential benefits to the implementation of AI, there are also potential risks and challenges that need to be addressed, the implementation of AI in the sports industry could have broader social and ethical implications that need to be considered. more...

The study aims to identify the client's perception in relation to the value proposition delivered from the accounting services provided by offices with different structures and characteristics. Therefore, qualitative and descriptive research was carried out, developed through interviews with clients and documents from accounting offices. The study focused on analyzing the services provided by traditional offices, digital offices and entirely online offices. The research presents the varieties of accounting offices that currently exist, relating them to the technological impact, the services provided, and the value propositions delivered. With a focus on the value proposition, the survey reveals the opinion and vision of the client as a key factor in structuring and differentiating accounting businesses. From the interviews, four interviewees of each typology of accounting office, the study presented positive results on the technological insertion in the accounting offices, showing that the traditional models are, every day, adapting with the "digital age". Digital and online offices, on the other hand, are effective in providing fast customer service, but their managerial analysis and monitoring of the company's needs are still limited. The study contributes to the literature, which has a scarcity of research that reflects the client's perception of the value proposition of accounting firms. As well as, it demonstrates the impact of technology in the processes of accounting activities and the exemplification of its growing development in the offices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] more...

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) worldwide, including in the village where the author conducted Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata – KKN), in Sawocangkring Village, Cangkring Hamlet, Wonoayu, Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia from August 1st to 31st, 2023. During this community service activity, many local MSMEs experienced setbacks and even had to close down when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country. To ensure the sustainability and recovery of MSMEs post COVID-19 pandemic, it is important to raise awareness of the role of business permits and technological transformation in empowering MSMEs. However, there is still a lack of knowledge and understanding among MSME owners regarding the importance of these two aspects. This community service activity was conducted using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, involving observation and interviews. Additionally, primary data was collected through pre and post activity surveys in the form of questionnaires administered to MSMEs owners. In this case, as a pilot project for community service activities, the author focused only on selecting 2 leading MSMEs as partners for this community service activity. The results of this community service activity related to business permits include socialization and assistance in obtaining the Business Identification Number (Nomor Induk Berusaha - NIB). As for technological transformation, socialization and assistance were provided in creating websites for MSMEs, Google Map location services, and e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Tokopedia. In the context of post COVID-19 pandemic MSME recovery, increasing awareness of the importance of business permits and technological transformation plays a crucial role in empowering MSMEs. By enhancing the knowledge and understanding of MSMEs owners regarding legitimate business permit procedures and the benefits of technological transformation, MSMEs can gain better access to markets, financing, and resources needed to recover and grow their businesses. more...
