2. Giant Enhancement of Magnonic Frequency Combs by Exceptional Points

Abstract

With their incomparable time-frequency accuracy, frequency combs have significantly advanced precision spectroscopy, ultra-sensitive detection, and atomic clocks. Traditional methods to create photonic, phononic, and magnonic frequency combs hinge on material nonlinearities which are often weak, necessitating high power densities to surpass their initiation thresholds, which subsequently limits their applications. Here, we introduce a novel nonlinear process to efficiently generate magnonic frequency combs (MFCs) by exploiting exceptional points (EPs) in a coupled system comprising a pump-induced magnon mode and a Kittel mode. Even without any cavity, our method greatly improves the efficiency of nonlinear frequency conversion and achieves optimal MFCs at low pump power. Additionally, our novel nonlinear process enables excellent tunability of EPs using the polarization and power of the pump, simplifying MFC generation and manipulation. Our work establishes a synergistic relationship between non-Hermitian physics and MFCs, which is advantages for coherent/quantum information processing and ultra-sensitive detection., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures

Abstract

Angle-resolved second harmonic generation (SHG) spectra of ZnO microwires show characteristic Fano resonances in the spectral vicinity of exciton-polariton modes. The output SHG spectra after SHG interacting with exciton polariton shows a resonant enhancement peak accompanied by a suppression dip originating from the constructive and destructive interference respectively. It is demonstrated that the Fano line shape, and thus the Fano asymmetry parameter q, can be tuned by the phase-shift of the two channels. The phase-dependent q was calculated and the model describes our experimental results well. In particular, the phase-to-q relation unveil the crucial information about the dynamics of the system, e.g., defining the line shape of output SHG spectra in a superposition of quantum states.

6. Anisotropic nonlinear optical responses of Ta2NiS5 flake towards ultrafast logic gates and secure all-optical information transmission.

Abstract

Optical logic gates based on nonlinear optical property of material with ultrafast response speed and excellent computational processing power can break the performance bottleneck of electronic transistors. As one of the layered 2D materials, Ta2NiS5 exhibits high anisotropic mobility, exotic electrical response, and intriguing optical properties. Due to the low-symmetrical crystal structures, it possesses in-plane anisotropic physical properties. The optical absorption information of Ta2NiS5 is investigated by anisotropic linear absorption spectra, femtosecond laser intensity scanning (I-scan), and non-degenerate pump-probe technology. The I-scan results show a distinct maximum of ∼4.9 % saturable absorption (SA) and ∼4 % reverse saturable absorption (RSA) at different polarization directions of the incident laser. And, these unique nonlinear optical (NLO) properties originate from the anisotropic optical transition probability. Furthermore, the novel Ta2NiS5-based all-optical logic gates are proposed by manipulating the NLO absorption processes. And, the all-optical OR and NOR logic gates possess an ultrafast response speed approaching 1.7 THz. Meanwhile, an all-optical information transmission method with higher security and accuracy is achieved, which has promising potential to avoid the disclosure of information. Abstract

Blackbody‐sensitive uncooled infrared photodetectors with ultra‐broadband and ultrafast photoresponse have a profound impact on many areas of modern science and technology. However, it is a big challenge for both traditional photodetectors and emerging low‐dimensional ones to simultaneously have all the above characteristics. Here, this challenge is addressed by establishing a Te/WTe2 heterostructure photodetector. The built‐in field of the heterostructure and the crossing conduction and valence bands of WTe2 jointly result in a high responsivity and a visible‐to‐long‐wavelength‐infrared photoresponse range. The peak responsivity (at the 3.3 µm wavelength) reaches 914 mA W−1 at zero bias and 8.51 A W−1 at 2 V bias. Further, the joint action coupled with the high mobility of Te and WTe2 promotes the 3‐dB bandwidth to 153 kHz. The self‐powered blackbody responsivity and specific detectivity reach 235.7 mA W−1 and 1.1 × 108 cm Hz1/2 W−1, respectively. The former increases to 5.82 A W−1 at 1 V bias. Moreover, this device is polarization‐sensitive with a contrast ratio of 2. 9. Power-Guided Asymmetrical Vector Dissipative Soliton Molecules in a Compact Fiber Resonator

Abstract

Vector dissipative soliton molecules (VDSMs) can be promising for polarization multiplexing transmission applications. We report a nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) vector dissipative soliton molecule laser. The laser realizes three-type vector dissipative soliton molecules of directly generated “1+2” type, “2+2 type, and outer-cavity projected super-position “2+‘2+2’” type just by changing the pump power. It's proved that the different generated methods of vector soliton molecules in Hamiltonian systems can also be realized in dissipative systems. This is also the first time that multiple different generated methods of vector dissipative soliton molecules are realized in a fiber resonator based on NPR. The results proved the VDSMs' structures can be controlled, which can be potentially applied in optical frequency comb, optical communication systems, optical logic processing, optical detection, etc.

Abstract

All-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite quantum dots have recently received much attention as promising optoelectronic materials with great luminescent properties and bright application prospect in lighting, lasing, and photodetection. Although notable progress has been achieved in lighting applications based on such media, the performance could still be improved. Here, we demonstrate that the light emission from the perovskite QDs that possess high intrinsic luminous efficiency can be greatly enhanced by using metallic thin films, a technique that was usually considered only useful for improving the emission of materials with low intrinsic quantum efficiency. Eleven-fold maximal PL enhancement is observed with respect to the emission of perovskite QDs on the bare dielectric substrate. We explore this remarkable enhancement of the light emission originating from the joint effects of enhancing the incident photonic absorption of QDs at the excitation wavelength by means of the zero-order optical asymmetric Fabry–Perot-like thin film interference and increasing the radiative rate and quantum efficiency at the emission wavelength mediated by surface plasmon polaritons. We believe that our approach is also potentially valuable for the enhancement of light emission of other fluorescent media with high intrinsic quantum efficiency.

14. Spin Selective Purcell Effect in a Quantum Dot Microcavity System

Abstract

We demonstrate the selective coupling of a single quantum dot exciton spin state with the cavity mode in a quantum dot-micropillar cavity system. By tuning an external magnetic field, the Zeeman splitted exciton spin states coupled differently with the cavity due to field manipulated energy detuning. We found a 26 times increase in the emission intensity of spin-up exciton state with respect to spin-down exciton state at resonance due to Purcell effect, which gives rise to the selective enhancement of light emission with the circular polarization degree up to 93%. A four-level rate equation model is developed and quantitatively agrees well with our experimental data. 15. Room temperature one-dimensional polariton condensate in a ZnO microwire

Abstract

A cavity-polariton, formed due to the strong coupling between exciton and cavity mode, is one of the most promising composite bosons for realizing macroscopic spontaneous coherence at high temperature. Up to date, most of polariton quantum degeneracy experiments were conducted in the complicated two-dimensional (2D) planar microcavities. The role of dimensionality in coherent quantum degeneracy of a composite bosonic system of exciton polaritons remains mysterious. Here we report the first experimental observation of a one-dimensional (1D) polariton condensate in a ZnO microwire at room temperature. The massive occupation of the polariton ground state above a distinct pump power threshold is clearly demonstrated by using the angular resolved spectroscopy under non-resonant excitation. The power threshold is one order of magnitude lower than that of Mott transition. Furthermore, a well-defined far field emission pattern from the polariton condensate mode is observed, manifesting the coherence build-up in the condensed polariton system., Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures

16. One-dimensional ZnO exciton polaritons with negligible thermal broadening at room temperature

Abstract

Phonon damping is the main source of pure dephasing in the solid state, limiting many fundamental quantum effects to low temperature observations. Here we show how excitons in semiconductors can be totally decoupled from the phonon bath, even at room temperature, thanks to their strong interaction with photons. To do so, we investigated ZnO microwires, a new semiconductor nanostructure made of large band-gap material where the light can be trapped and guided into whispering gallery modes. In this system, the very large coupling regime between exciton and photon results in unusual exciton-polariton of one-dimensional character and Rabi splitting as large as 300meV. We find that polariton modes of excitonic fraction up to 75% exhibit no thermal broadening up to room temperature. We show that this remarkable behavior is due to the very large Rabi splitting as compared to the LO phonon energy., Comment: 17 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We report direct observation of the strong exciton-photon coupling in ZnO tapered whispering gallery (WG) microcavity at room temperature. By scanning excitations along the tapered arm of ZnO tetrapod using micro-photoluminescence spectrometer with different polarizations, we observed a transition from the pure WG optical modes in the weak interaction regime to the excitonic polariton in the strong coupling regime. The experimental observations are well described by using the plane wave model including excitonic polariton dispersion relation. This provides a direct mapping of the polariton dispersion, and thus a comprehensive picture for coupling of different excitons with differently polarized WG modes., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

Abstract

The layer-by-layer buildup of a two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide monolayer to form a stack is an important development for these materials, which performs many remarkable properties in the light–matter interaction. Herein, we find clear evidence of exciton–polaritons emerging from WS2/hBN/WS2 heterostructures embedded in a dielectric microcavity under optical pumping. A large Rabi splitting of 15 meV is observed at room temperature, which increases to 25 meV at 5 K. An all-dielectric Fabry–Pérot microcavity provides a simple but effective way to study the room temperature strong coupling between cavity photons and excitons. Our results pave the way for room-temperature polaritonic devices based on quantum-well van der Waals heterostructures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

41. Exploring the emerging of electronic and magnetic properties with adatom adsorption on a novel semiconductor monolayer: N2P6.

Abstract

The effect of adsorbed adatoms on the structural stability and electronic properties of monolayer N2P6 have been systematically studied via first-principles simulation methods. It is found that pristine N2P6 is an indirect 0.21 eV band gap semiconductor, with a pleated honeycomb-like structure similar to phosphorene. The calculation results show that adsorbed adatoms can modify the properties of monolayer N2P6 effectively. The degree of local distortion strongly depends on the electronegativity and size of adatoms, also the adsorption energy ranges from 0.3 to 5.8 eV depending on the species of adatoms. The electronic properties show metallic behavior with several adsorbed metal atoms (Li, Na, Al, K, Cu, Ni, and Zn) and some non-metal atoms (H, F, P, and Cl), while adsorbed O, S, Ca, and Si atoms still remain semiconductors. The systems of Ni and Zn adatoms show ferromagnetic behavior, and adsorbed Mg exhibits a half-metallic character.
