Abstract

Introduction: The adult hemogram values can vary according factors such as ethnic origin, age, sex and level above the sea, whereby it is essential to know the biological intervals associated to our own population. Therefore, the objective of our study was to determine biological reference intervals (BRI) for adults with the hematological equipment BC-5000. Methods: This is a transversal descriptive study with 111 blood bank donors from Medellín, between 18 and 62 years old. Hemogram, C reactive protein and ferritin were done. The BRI were calculated according to the recommendations of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), with the formula X ± (DS *1, 96). BRI comparison according sex was carried out with the t-student test. Results: Calculated BRI by X ± (DS * 1, 96) formula, showed statistically significant differences (P < 0, 05) between men and women for count in most of the parameters. Higher statistical means were obtain in women for the count of leukocytes and platelets, absolute counts of some white cells, VPN y PCT. Discussion: The presence of androgens in the male sex, inductors of the erythropoiesis system, as well as the estrogens and menstrual period, suppressor of this system, can explain the lower values in the female erythrocyte count, the hemoglobin, hematocrit and red cell lower ranges. The high estrogen and interleukins 6 and 1 loads in women, drive the extended half-life of some cells like lymphocytes, that can explain the difference in leucocyte count found in the present study.

Abstract

This paper presents the concept of a novel adaptable sensing solution currently being developed under the EU Commission-founded PHOTONGATE project. This concept will allow for the quantification of multiple analytes of the same or different nature (chemicals, metals, bacteria, etc.) in a single test with levels of sensitivity and selectivity at/or over those offered by current solutions. PHOTONGATE relies on two core technologies: a biochemical technology (molecular gates), which will confer the specificity and, therefore, the capability to be adaptable to the analyte of interest, and which, combined with porous substrates, will increase the sensitivity, and a photonic technology based on localized surface plasmonic resonance (LSPR) structures that serve as transducers for light interaction. Both technologies are in the micron range, facilitating the integration of multiple sensors within a small area (mm2). The concept will be developed for its application in health diagnosis and food safety sectors. It is thought of as an easy-to-use modular concept, which will consist of the sensing module, mainly of a microfluidics cartridge that will house the photonic sensor, and a platform for fluidic handling, optical interrogation, and signal processing. The platform will include a new optical concept, which is fully European Union Made, avoiding optical fibers and expensive optical components.

124 páginas El derecho a la verdad a través de su historia ha Sido objeto de un importante desarrollo doctrinal y jurisprudencial dentro del escenario de la responsabilidad internacional del los Estados por graves violaciones a derechos humanos y por lo tanto guarda una estrecha relación con la reparación integral de dichos daños. Como consecuencia de ello, a nivel regional, la Corte IDH ha tratado la verdad dentro de su jurisprudencia como un elemento accesorio a la vulneración de los derechos de garantías judiciales y libre acceso a la administración de justicia, consagrados en los artículos 8 y 25 de la Convención americana, subsumiendo así el derecho a la verdad y quitándole todo rastro de autonomía. Por tales razones dotar de autonomía al derecho a la verdad se torna en una tarea necesaria dentro de la jurisprudencia de la Corte IDH, puesto a que así se cubrirían una serie de eventos dañosos ajenos a los artículos 8 y 25 que se están invisibilizando por dicha subsunción y que por tal razón está afectando de manera directa la reparación integral de las víctimas de las mentadas graves violaciones a DD.HH. In the recent history, the Right to know the truth had an important development and impact in the scenario of the trials of lnternational responsability of the States by serious violations to the human rights, what makes it clase with the figure of integral reparation of that kind of damages. A consecuense of the previous idea is that in a regional level, the desicions of the lnteramerican Human Rights Court have used the Right to know the truth as a accsesory element of the violations of the Right to the access toJustice and the judicialy guarantees that are consecrated in the lnteramerican Convention of Human Rights, and taking away from it, every single sign of autonomy. Thats why giving autonomy to the right to know the truth turns in a necesary task in the pronunciations of the lnteramerican Human Rights Court, because in this way the Right to know the truth would include different kinds of events, diveres yo those that are content in the articles 8 and 25 of the San José Pact. Abstract

[EN] In this paper we introduce a field diagnostic device based on the combination of advanced bio-sensing and photonics technologies, to tackle emerging and endemic viruses causing swine epidemics, and consequently significant economic damage in farms. The device is based on the use of microring resonators fabricated in silicon nitride with CMOS compatible techniques. In the paper, the designed and fabricated photonic integrated circuit (PIC) sensors are presented and characterized, showing an optimized performance in terms of optical losses (30 dB per ring) and extinction ration for ring resonances (15 dB). Furthermore, the results of an experiment for porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) detection by using the developed biosensors are presented. Positive detection for different virus concentrations has been obtained. The device is currently under development in the framework of the EU Commission co-funded project SWINOSTICS.
