Abstract

Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) was used to separate and determine simultaneously the p[K.sub.1], p[K.sub.2], and pI values of 12 environmentally relevant hydroxytriazines (hydroxymetabolites of atrazine, terbuthylazine, simazine, and propazine and four (arylamino)-s-triazines) and observe the effects of the alkylamino and arylamino substituents on the measured values. Capillary isoelectric focusing (CIEF) methods were developed to measure the pI of these compounds and compare those values with the CZE-measured pI's. CZE and CIEF can provide accurate pK and pI values reasonably fast, and pI values measured by the two techniques agree. Knowledge of the pK and pI values of hydroxytriazines is important for an understanding of the binding mechanisms of these molecules in environmental matrices. Because the hydroxy-triazines may exist as a myriad of species-neutral, charged, zwitterionic, and keto-enol tautomeric - depending on structure and pH, we briefly addressed the existence of these species relative to their electrophoretic analysis.

Abstract

Solid state transformers (SSTs) are believed to play a major role in the near future due to their additional features compared to conventional transformers. SSTs are a combination of power electronics and a conventional transformer. The function of this device is to commute the signal into the kHz range before it is transformed to another voltage with the conventional transformer within the SST. Many different topologies for the power electronic part in SST applications have been implemented and presented in literature. Many newer publications use SiC MOSFETs due to their high achievable blocking voltage and fast switching speed. The transforming element in SST applications, where a higher amount of power is needed, will still be a conventional transformer with conventional insulation. Thus the oil paper insulation system has to be investigated experimentally in respect of the higher frequency stress. For these investigations a source is needed that can deliver voltage stress which is present in SST applications. Thus a pulsed high frequency (HF) source had to be developed to be able to test and study the insulation in detail. In this publication we show the development and function of such a pulsed HF source for voltages up to 5 kV. Also first measurement results of tests at 20 kHz and 40 kHz are presented and compared with 50 Hz measurements.

4. On the Semantic Relationship between Datalog and Description Logics

Abstract

Translations to (first-order) datalog have been used in a number of inferencing techniques for description logics (DLs), yet the relationship between the semantic expressivities of function-free Horn logic and DL is understood only poorly. Although Description Logic Programs (DLP) have been described as DLs in the "expressive intersection" of DL and datalog, it is unclear what an intersection of two syntactically incomparable logics is, even if both have a first-order logic semantics. In this work, we offer a characterisation for DL fragments that can be expressed, in a concrete sense, in datalog. We then determine the largest such fragment for the DL , and provide an outlook on the extension of our methods to more expressive DLs. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

17. Coping strategies for oncology nurses in high complexity.

Abstract

Objective: to identify the coping strategies of oncology services of nurses in highly complex hospital care before the person with cancer., Method: it is a qualitative research, with 18 nurses in inpatient oncology units and/or outpatient chemotherapy in two cities in southern Brazil, sampled by a snowball and carrying out semi-structured interviews. Data were submitted to thematic analysis., Results: three categories emerged that show strategies such as denial and resignation in care, for support in the health team and the plurality and multiplicity of perspectives on the care, including the patient and his family and the search for personal and professional improvement., Conclusion: coping strategies are expressed in the cultural understanding of what it means to have cancer or not and management of health institutions for nurses to work with satisfaction. The service in education is a major factor in the development of ethical competence.
