Abstract

Titanium-di-oxide nanoparticles are synthesized via a microwave-assisted solvothermal route for different pH values. The effect of the acidic and basic nature of the solvent due to the pH value is reflected in the crystalline size of the compound. The purpose of this work is to synthesize Titanium dioxide nanoparticles and to observe their application in degrading industrially contaminated water using normal tap water. The crystalline sizes are calculated using XRD analysis and confirmed with HRTEM. The chemical composition and oxidation state are confirmed with XPS studies. Optical properties are carried out with UV-Vis, FTIR, and PL spectra. Photocatalytic studies are carried out to degrade the dye in industrial water. The efficiency of degradation is calculated with the UV-Vis data and formula. The reduction in band gap and high permanence has greatly supported in making it acceptable for photocatalytic activity under visible light. Dependence of time, initial dye concentration, and pH of the dye solution on TiO2 as a catalyst is investigated under the illumination of a visible lamp, and degradation efficiency to the highest of 96.79% has been obtained.

Abstract

Present study deals with the acquisition and analysis of different types of incipient discharges in transformer by adopting Ultra-High Frequency (UHF) technique. The Nyquist rate sampling method generates a large number of samples, making it inefficient for developing an online monitoring system. To reduce this, compressive sensing techniques are employed for signal compression and reconstruction. Various compressive sensing methods, including Convex, Non-Convex, Greedy, and Iterative Thresholding, were compared. Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) was found to be the optimal algorithm, achieving optimal reconstruction time and error at a compression ratio of 45%. The reconstructed signals were compared with the originals using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), revealing similarities in dominant frequencies. A Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) machine learning model was used for signal classification, consistently outperforming other algorithms. This study enhances understanding of incipient/partial discharge detection and classification, highlighting the effectiveness of innovative signal processing and machine learning approaches in power system engineering. 32. Two-Dimensional Material-Based Fluorescent Optical Fiber for Early Detection of Partial Discharge

Abstract

The present work deals with a 2-D material-based modification of a fluorescent optic fiber sensor for enhanced condition monitoring of partial discharge (PD) activity in power transformers. Different PD sources were simulated and experimentally demonstrated to compare the performance of the sensor with traditional techniques. The sensor is fabricated by adopting the dip coating process for modifying the fluorescent optic fiber with 2-D-based graphene materials. The Raman spectrum on fiber indicates the G, D, and 2-D bands of graphene as evidence of coating. Irrespective of the PD source, a 2-D-based sensor is found to be efficient in detecting discharges at the inception stage in comparison to conventional techniques. Its optical spectral component blue shifts from visible wavelengths to ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths. Discharge signal analysis exhibits better response time and energy content, irrespective of discharge sources. This fiber optic technique is used to detect transient voltages, which could overcome the drawbacks of conventional and electrical methods for PD detection.

Abstract

The term 'biometrics' refers to a measurable characteristic that is unique to an individual such as fingerprints, facial structure, the iris or a person's voice. This project presents a face image based biometric system that records the attendance of a person by using a hand held face image biometrics. Attendance is a concept that exists in different places like institutions, organization’s, hospitals, etc. during the start and end of the day to mark a person’s presence. In early days and even now in many places attendance is recorded manually in attendance registers by calling out the names. This results in waste of time and human effort. Also there are many fraudulent issues that happen when we use a register. A student attendance system using face recognition and Grassmann classification is a biometric system that can automate the attendance taking process in a classroom setting. This system involves collecting a dataset of images of each student in the classroom and using face detection and alignment algorithms to detect and align the faces in each image. The Grassmann classification algorithm is then used to extract features from the images and classify them as belonging to a particular student. When a student enters the classroom, their face is captured by a camera and compared to the images in the dataset. If a match is found, the student is marked as present. This system has the potential to save time and increase accuracy in the attendance taking process. However, it also raises concerns about privacy and the security of the collected data. Proper safeguards must be put in place to ensure that the system is used ethically and responsibly

Abstract

This work deals with the effect of oil reclamation on the conduction mechanism and dielectric aspects of accelerated thermally aged transformer mineral oil. The reclamation is a treatment with Fuller's earth (FE) adsorbent to remove corrosive sulfur compounds and other contaminants formed during thermal aging. The properties of the oil are compared between different stages of the treatment. Corona (partial discharge) inception is identified by the optical fluorescent fiber technique. The results show an increased corona inception voltage after treatment. Dielectric response spectroscopy (DRS) showed a lower loss factor and electrical conductivity after treatment. The conduction mechanism is measured under uniform and nonuniform electric fields with variations in applied voltage magnitude. The conduction mechanism at a uniform electric field (low E) is studied using the polarity reversal technique to estimate the respective ionic motilities in the fluid. The apparent mobility of ions, conductivity, ionic radius, and concentration from the oil are found to reduce on reclamation. In addition, the conduction mechanism for a higher electric field is simulated by the current-voltage characteristic in nonuniform conditions and the slope determines the ionic mobility of the fluid., QC 20231121

Abstract

Present work deals with accelerated electrical and thermal stress on transformer oil and its characteristic variation on Fuller's earth (FE) reclamation. The influence of carbon particles in the fluid, its role on thermal ageing characteristics can be understood by electrical characterization. Reclamation of insulation fluid extends the lifetime and reliability of the transformer over the year of operation. The average particle size of carbon particles on electrical breakdown are in the range of 644 nm. Dielectric response spectroscopy (DRS) which identifies the conductivity and relative permittivity variation with the effect multi-stress ageing. Conduction mechanism with higher electric field is simulated by current-voltage (IV) characteristics using non-uniform field configuration to derive the ionic mobility of the liquid. Dissolved decayed products and turbidity showed drastic enhancement with multi-stress ageing than the thermally aged specimen. Reclamation with fuller earth treatment removes the carbon traces and ageing by-products in the fluid regaining its relative dielectric performances.
