4. A class of Taub-NUT metrics in the presence of a scalar field

Abstract

We derive a class of Taub-NUT metrics in the presence of a scalar field (TNS) by applying the Ehlers transformation on the exact solutions that was recently introduced in arXiv: 2307.09328 and arXiv: 2307.13588. Furthermore, we investigate the effective potential, geodesics, topological charge, and quasinormal modes (QNMs) for the obtained TNS metrics. We also use conformal transformations to generate a new class of exact solutions of the Einstein-conformal-scalar theory by using the obtained TNS solutions as seed metrics. Finally we compare QNMs of the class of exact solutions.

Abstract

We consider a class of three parameter static and axially symmetric metrics that reduce to the Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) and $ \gamma$-metrics in certain limits of the parameters. We obtain rotating form of the metrics that are asymptotically flat, stationary and axisymmetric. In certain values of the parameters, the solutions represent the rotating JNW metric, rotating $ \gamma$-metric and Bogush-Gal'tsov (BG) metric. The singularities of rotating metrics are investigated. Using the light-ring method, we obtain the quasi normal modes (QNMs) related to rotating metrics in the eikonal limit. Finally, we investigate the precession frequency of a test gyroscope in the presence of the rotating metrics., Comment: 12 pages and 4 figures

18. Iranian EFL Teachers' and Learners' Perceptions of the Principles of Critical Thinking: A Constructivist Grounded Theory Study

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the perception of EFL teachers and learners on the fundamental principles and constructs of critical thinking, the main characteristics of a critical thinker, and strategies for reinforcing critical thinking ability. Semi-structured interviews with eight EFL teachers and ten learners, who were theoretically sampled from three different contexts of public, private, and seminary schools in Sabzevar and Qom, Iran, were conducted using the constructivist grounded theory methodology (Charmaz, 2008). Using the MAXQDA software version 12, the data were analyzed based on the three levels of the open, axial, and selective coding of grounded theory. A model of critical thinking was proposed with ELT teachers' and learners' awareness as the core category and the characteristics of a critical thinker and strategies for reinforcing critical thinking ability as sub-categories. The results of the study revealed several pedagogical implications for EFL teachers to help their learners develop critical thinking skills, for EFL learners to think more deeply, solve problems better, communicate and collaborate more effectively, and for curriculum developers and syllabus designers to put certain critical thinking activities in textbooks and support in-service classes for teachers.

26. Proto-Strange Quark Star Structure

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the newborn strange quark stars with constant entropy. We also use the MIT bag model to calculate the thermodynamic properties in two cases; the density-dependent bag constant and the fixed bag constant (B = 90 MeV). We show that the equation of state becomes stiffer by using the density dependent bag constant and by increasing the entropy. Furthermore, we show that the adiabatic index of the system reaches to 4/3 at high densities. Later, we calculate the structure of a strange quark star using the equation of state and the general relativistic equations of hydrostatic equilibrium, the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations. We show that the gravitational mass of the star decreases by increasing the entropy and the maximum gravitational mass is larger when we use the density-dependent bag constant at fixed central energy density. It is shown that the mass-radius relation for this system obeys M R^ 3 for different cases of the calculations. Finally, we show that for a given stellar mass considering the fixed bag constant, the maximum gravitational red shift of a strange quark star occurs at larger values of entropy., Comment: 7 pages, 10 figures, Ind J. 27. Dynamical behavior of the Universe: an entropic force scenario

Abstract

Entropic force originates in the assumption that there is a horizon for the universe. This horizon gives rise to additional terms in the equations of motion. Using dynamical system calculations, our results show that in the presence of dark energy for certain conditions, the last attractor of this theory will be dark energy epoch, but in the absence of dark energy, entropic force energy portion will have the lead role in the late time universe and is responsible for accelerated expansion of that. Interestingly, assuming both entropic force terms and dark energy to have their share of energy density of the universe, we have found that, in certain conditions entropic force dominated epoch is a stable fixed point while the dark energy epoch is a saddle point., Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

In this article, we address a question that has been frequently asked: Why is the Iranian government unable to defeat the struggle by women against the compulsory hijab? What distinguishes women's resistance from other forms of freedom and justice movements? We address these questions by highlighting women's "resilient resistance" within the family domain as both flexible and sustainable. The article examines how the domestication of politics and the politicization of family have interconnected dynamics in Iran, as illustrated by the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement. It shows how women have shifted the Iranian family from a collaborator of oppressive patriarchal power to a more egalitarian structure to accommodate their protests against the compulsory hijab. As the catalysts for this change, they succeeded in discrediting the Islamic Republic's moral discourse based on the compulsory hijab as a manifestation of modesty for women. They also validated their own morality based on personal choice. Using ethnographic fieldwork, including participatory observation and in-depth interviews with movement participants, this paper shows how women's invisible yet significant resistance within the family has transformed this institution and profoundly affected the broader political landscape of Iran.
