In L3–L4 vehicles, driving task is performed primarily by automated driving system (ADS). Automation mode permits to engage in non-driving-related tasks; however, it necessitates continuous vigilance and attention. Although the driver may be distracted, a request to intervene may suddenly occur, requiring immediate and appropriate response to driving conditions. To increase safety, automated vehicles should be equipped with a Driver Intervention Performance Assessment module (DIPA), ensuring that the driver is able to take the control of the vehicle and maintain it safely. Otherwise, ADS should regain control from the driver and perform a minimal risk manoeuvre. The paper explains the essence of DIPA, indicates possible measures, and describes a concept of DIPA framework being developed in the project.

Meaningful service user involvement in health professions education requires integrating knowledge held by "lay" people affected by health challenges into professional theories and practices. Involving service users redefines whose knowledge "counts" and implies a shift in power. Such a shift is especially significant in the mental health field, where power imbalances between health professionals and service users are magnified. However, reviews of the literature on service user involvement in mental health professional education do little to explore how power manifests in this work. Meanwhile critical and Mad studies scholars have highlighted that without real shifts in power, inclusion practices can lead to harmful consequences. We conducted a critical review to explore how power is addressed in the literature that describes service user involvement in mental health professions education. Our team used a co-produced approach and critical theories to identify how power implicitly and explicitly operates in this work to unearth the inequities and power structures that service user involvement may inadvertently perpetuate. We demonstrate that power permeates service user involvement in mental health professional education but is rarely made visible. We also argue that by missing the opportunity to locate power, the literature contributes to a series of epistemic injustices that reveal the contours of legitimate knowledge in mental health professions education and its neoliberal underpinnings. Ultimately, we call for a critical turn that foregrounds power relations to unlock the social justice-oriented transformative potential of service user involvement in mental health professions education and health professions education more broadly.

Abstract Background Psychotic disorders have long been considered neurodevelopmental disorders where excessive synaptic pruning and cortical volume loss are central to disease pathology. We conducted a systematic review of the literature to identify neuroimaging studies specifically examining synaptic density across the psychosis spectrum. Methods PRISMA guidelines on reporting were followed. We systematically searched MEDLINE, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Web of Science and The Cochrane Library from inception to December 8, 2023, and included all original peer-reviewed articles or completed clinical neuroimaging studies of any modality measuring synaptic density in participants with a diagnosis of psychosis spectrum disorder as well as individuals with psychosis-risk states. The NIH quality assessment tool for observational cohort and cross-sectional studies was used for the risk of bias assessment. Results Five studies (k = 5) met inclusion criteria, comprising n = 128 adults (psychotic disorder; n = 61 and healthy volunteers; n = 67 and specifically measuring synaptic density via positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2 A (SV2A). Three studies were included in our primary meta-analysis sharing the same outcome measure of SV2A binding, volume of distribution (VT). Abstract Fertilization with nickel (Ni) can positively affect plant development due to the role of this micronutrient in nitrogen (N) metabolism, namely, through urease and NiFe-hydrogenase. Although the application of Ni is an emerging practice in modern agriculture, its effectiveness strongly depends on the chosen application method, making further research in this area essential. The individual and combined effects of different Ni application methods—seed treatment, leaf spraying and/or soil fertilization—were investigated in soybean plants under different edaphoclimatic conditions (field and greenhouse). Beneficial effects of the Soil, Soil + Leaf and Seed + Leaf treatments were observed, with gains of 7 to 20% in biological nitrogen fixation, 1.5-fold in ureides, 14% in shoot dry weight and yield increases of up to 1161 kg ha−1. All the Ni application methods resulted in a 1.1-fold increase in the SPAD index, a 1.2-fold increase in photosynthesis, a 1.4-fold increase in nitrogenase, and a 3.9-fold increase in urease activity. Edaphoclimatic conditions exerted a significant influence on the treatments. The integrated approaches, namely, leaf application in conjunction with soil or seed fertilization, were more effective for enhancing yield in soybean cultivation systems. The determination of the ideal method is crucial for ensuring optimal absorption and utilization of this micronutrient and thus a feasible and sustainable management technology. Further research is warranted to establish official guidelines for the application of Ni in agricultural practices.

Aims This systematic review aims to identify and synthesise the publicly available research testing treatments for mental health, cognition and psychological well-being in long COVID.Methods The following databases and repositories were searched in October–November 2023: Medline, Embase, APA PsycINFO, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, China National Knowledge Internet, WANFANG Data, Web of Science’s Preprint Citation Index, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Clinicaltrials.gov and the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform. Articles were selected if they described participants with long COVID symptoms at least 4 weeks after SAR-CoV-19 infection, reported primary outcomes on mental health, cognition and/or psychological well-being, and were available with at least an English-language summary. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines for systematic reviews were followed.Results Thirty-three documents representing 31 studies were included. Seven tested psychosocial interventions, five pharmaceutical interventions, three natural supplement interventions, nine neurocognitive interventions, two physical rehabilitation interventions and five integrated interventions. While some promising findings emerged from randomised controlled trials, many studies were uncontrolled; a high risk of bias and insufficient reporting were also frequent.Conclusions The published literature on treatments for mental health, cognition and psychological well-being in long COVID show that the interventions are highly heterogeneous and findings are inconclusive to date. Continued scientific effort is required to improve the evidence base. Regular literature syntheses will be required to update and educate clinicians, scientists, interventionists and the long COVID community.

Summary: Buprenorphine initiation in the Emergency Department (ED) has been hailed as an evidence-based strategy to mitigate the opioid overdose crisis, but its implementation has been limited. This scoping review synthesizes barriers and facilitators to buprenorphine initiation in the ED, and uses the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research and a critical lens to analyze the literature. Results demonstrate an immense effort across the U.S. and Canada to implement ED-initiated buprenorphine. Facilitators include multidisciplinary addiction teams and co-located, low-barrier, harm reduction-informed services to support transitions. Barriers include a failure to address structural stigma, client complexity, and an increasingly toxic drug supply. The literature also misses the opportunity to include the perspectives of service users, health administrators, and learners. Increased coordination of implementation efforts, and a shift to equitable and inclusive opioid agonist therapy initiation pathways are needed across the U.S. and Canada.

Ixodes ricinus ticks are an important vector and reservoir of pathogenic microorganisms causing dangerous infectious diseases in humans and animals. The presence of ticks in urban greenery is a particularly important public health concern due to the potential for humans and companion animals to be exposed to tick-borne diseases there. The study assessed the prevalence of Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection in I. ricinus ticks feeding on dogs.

Abstract Background Adhering to varenicline has been shown to significantly improve the chances of successfully quitting smoking, with studies indicating a twofold increase in 6-month quit rates. However, despite its potential benefits, many individuals struggle with maintaining good adherence to varenicline; thus there is a need to develop scalable strategies to help people adhere. As a first step to inform the development of an intervention to improve adherence to varenicline, we conducted a rapid literature review to identify: 1) modifiable barriers and facilitators to varenicline adherence, and 2) behaviour change techniques associated with increased adherence to varenicline. Methods We searched MEDLINE, Embase, APA PsycINFO, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for relevant studies published between 2006 and 2022. Search terms included “varenicline,” “smoking cessation,” and "adherence," and their respective subject headings and synonyms. We screened and included studies reporting modifiable determinants of adherence to varenicline and then assessed quality, extracted modifiable determinants and mapped them to the Theoretical Domains Framework version 2 and the Behaviour Change Technique Taxonomy version 1. Results A total of 1,221 titles were identified through the database searches; 61 met the eligibility criteria. Most of the studies were randomized controlled trials and predominantly focused on barriers to varenicline. Only nine studies explicitly mentioned behaviour change techniques used to help varenicline adherence. Eight domains were identified as barriers to varenicline adherence (behavioural regulation, memory, goals, intentions, beliefs about capabilities, beliefs about consequences, optimism/pessimism, and environmental context) and five as facilitators (knowledge, behavioural regulation, beliefs about capabilities, social influences, and environmental context). Conclusions This study identifies barriers and facilitators that should be addressed when developing a complex adherence intervention tailored to patients’ needs based on modifiable determinants of medication adherence, some of which are under- used by existing adherence interventions. The findings from this review will inform the design of a theory-based healthbot planned to improve varenicline adherence in people undergoing smoking cessation treatment. This reflective essay documents the adaptation of an active-learning strategy in response to the spring 2020 global pandemic. We detail how we adapted it from its original form as an intentionally nondigital, face-to-face, team-based activity into a new, fully digital format. We articulate the active-learning methods driving the original design as well as its resulting learning outcomes. Although we worried the pivot into a digital format would undercut some of the original learning objectives, we argue the new format not only delivered those outcomes but generated additional outcomes and insights as well. We describe the activity's inherent pedagogical flexibility and adaptability across modalities and document how the pivot inspired us to interrogate our previous assumptions concerning face-to-face, team-based writing instruction and active learning.

The inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) group includes ulcerative colitis (UC), Crohn's disease (CD) and microscopic enteritis. In UC, the lesions involve only the large intestine and do not cross the mucosa, while CD can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. Inflammatory bowel disease usually occurs between the ages of 20-30, with another peak incidence in the seventh decade of life. The etiology of inflammatory bowel disease is not fully understood. Diagnosis is made on the basis of clinical evaluation, endoscopic examination with histopathological evaluation and imaging studies. Treatment involves the introduction of an appropriate diet, and pharmacological, biological and surgical treatments are used. The prognosis is inauspicious, with inflammatory lesions often recurring, even after years of remission of the disease. The purpose of this paper is to describe in detail the two most common diseases in the inflammatory bowel disease group, highlighting the differences and similarities between them at the level of lesion localization, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease, due to the accompanying symptoms that make daily activities difficult, are less active than healthy people. There is ample evidence of the beneficial effects of physical activity on quality and length of life. It is recommended to conduct moderate intensity of both endurance and resistance exercises.

Introduction Parkinson's disease (PD) poses significant challenges due to its complex array of motor and non-motor symptoms, impacting patients' quality of life. While traditional pharmacological treatments focus on motor symptoms, non-pharmacological interventions, including physical and dance therapy, offer alternative approaches. Aim of the Study This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic potential of physical and dance therapy, including tango, in managing motor symptoms and improving overall well-being in individuals with PD. It seeks to compare these interventions with traditional treatments and explore their efficacy. State of Knowledge Parkinson's disease management involves a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Traditional treatments target motor symptoms but have limitations. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as deep brain stimulation and physical therapy, complement traditional treatments. Dance therapy, including tango, shows promise in improving motor function and quality of life. Conclusions Physical and dance therapy, including tango, offer promising avenues for managing motor symptoms and enhancing quality of life in PD patients. While traditional treatments remain essential, non-pharmacological interventions provide valuable alternatives. Further research is needed to refine intervention parameters and compare their effectiveness comprehensively. Overall, these therapies present holistic approaches to PD management, addressing both motor and non-motor symptoms for improved patient outcomes.

Introduction: Patellar tendinopathy, commonly referred to as jumper’s knee, presents as pain and dysfunction in the patellar tendon, predominantly affecting athletes engaged in jumping sports. The symptoms of patellar tendinopathy not only impact sports involvement but also interfere with activities of daily living, such as climbing stairs and sitting for extended periods, which in turn affects overall well-being. A variety of treatment options are available, encompassing both conservative approaches, such as modifying activity levels and undergoing physical therapy, and surgical methods. Aim of the study: The objective of this study is to review the current literature regarding the incidence, risk factors and currently available treatment methods for patellar tendinopathy. In addition, the aim is to present a summary of the knowledge and information collected so far in this area in a concise and accessible format. State of knowledge: The epidemiology and mechanisms of patellar tendinopathy are already well documented and described. The statistics regarding the incidence of patellar tendinopathy among athletes in the given fields are sufficiently consistent with each other. The existing literature provides insights into the efficacy of various therapeutic approaches for patellar tendinopathy, yet it is limited in scope. Conclusion: This review acknowledges that recent advancements in research have led to a fuller understanding of epidemiology and improvement of treatment methods for patellar tendinopathy. Despite this, a single therapy is not sufficient for optimal outcomes. Therefore, it is recommended that a comprehensive approach to conservative treatment be adopted. Further research and clinical trials are essential for the generation of reliable conclusions.

Introduction: Experience-based co-design (EBCD) is a structured methodology of conducting healthcare quality improvement bringing together people with lived experience of a condition, families or carers, and healthcare service providers. EBCD has been applied to mental health and substance use (MHSU) settings. This scoping review aimed to: (a) synthesize the literature on the application of EBCD in the MHSU service sector; and (b) map out key adaptations made to the EBCD process, as well as the perceived impacts of the process and considerations unique to the MHSU sphere. Methods: A scoping review methodology was applied. Systematic searches for articles describing EBCD projects in MHSU were conducted across six bibliographic databases for literature published between 2013 and 2023, together with gray literature searches and reviews of reference lists. Records were screened for relevance, resulting in 24 included articles. Data were extracted in a spreadsheet and using qualitative data analysis software. Results are reported descriptively and in table format. Results: EBCD is being conducted in the MHSU sector in a limited number of high-income, English-speaking countries, applied to both quality improvement and new intervention development. Extensive methodology adaptations are described, with some steps frequently removed from the process or modified. A number of positive impacts of EBCD are described, highlighting the development of service adaptations or new services, as well as positive interpersonal impacts among stakeholders. Conclusions: EBCD is a valuable approach to collaboratively co-designing quality improvement initiatives with users of MHSU services, families or carers, and service providers, although it is also applied to new intervention development. Those implementing EBCD should carefully consider the way planned adaptations may affect the information gathered, the implementation experience, and the co-designed solutions. It is important to apply trauma-informed practices to EBCD and follow recommendations for authentic engagement, to promote genuine participation in co-designing solutions.

IntroductionMental health Applications (MH Apps) can potentially improve access to high-quality mental health care. However, the recent rapid expansion of MH Apps has created growing concern regarding their safety and effectiveness, leading to the development of AETs (Assessment and Evaluation Tools) to help guide users. This article provides a critical, mixed methods analysis of existing AETs for MH Apps by reviewing the criteria used to evaluate MH Apps and assessing their effectiveness as evaluation tools.MethodsTo identify relevant AETs, gray and scholarly literature were located through stakeholder consultation, Internet searching via Google and a literature search of bibliographic databases Medline, APA PsycInfo, and LISTA. Materials in English that provided a tool or method to evaluate MH Apps and were published from January 1, 2000, to January 26, 2021 were considered for inclusion.ResultsThirteen relevant AETs targeted for MH Apps met the inclusion criteria. The qualitative analysis of AETs and their evaluation criteria revealed that despite purporting to focus on MH Apps, the included AETs did not contain criteria that made them more specific to MH Apps than general health applications. There appeared to be very little agreed-upon terminology in this field, and the focus of selection criteria in AETs is often IT-related, with a lesser focus on clinical issues, equity, and scientific evidence. The quality of AETs was quantitatively assessed using the AGREE II, a standardized tool for evaluating assessment guidelines. Three out of 13 AETs were deemed ‘recommended’ using the AGREE II.DiscussionThere is a need for further improvements to existing AETs. To realize the full potential of MH Apps and reduce stakeholders’ concerns, AETs must be developed within the current laws and governmental health policies, be specific to mental health, be feasible to implement and be supported by rigorous research methodology, medical education, and public awareness.

ObjectiveTo ensure the best possible care, the perspective of PHC nurse work experience during the COVID-19 pandemic should be considered when developing nursing care protocols for older patients who receive PHC services.MethodThis exploratory qualitative study was conducted with 18 nurses working continuously in PHC between the first and fifth waves of the pandemic. Semi-structured thematic interviews were undertaken. Qualitative thematic content analysis was conducted to identify and group the themes that emerged from the discourse. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis.ResultsThe first topic describes the nurses’ experiences of physical and mental suffering in caring for older patients in response to the pandemic. The second topic covers the experience of reorganizing PHC work. The third topic focuses on the difficulties of caring for older patients. The final topic includes issues of support needs for nurses in PHC work.ConclusionThe experience and understanding of PHC nurses in caring for older people during the COVID pandemic should lead to significant changes in the system of nursing care for geriatric patients and in the cooperative role within geriatric care specialist teams. Drawing on the experience of COVID-19, it is necessary to work on the weak points of PHC exposed by the pandemic in order to improve the quality of care and life for geriatric patients.
