The concept of Bioeconomy is associated with sustainable development changes both in production and consumption systems. For this reason, this research was carried out with the objective to describe the scientific production related to the different strategic groups’ perceptions about Bioeconomy and to group the existing literature into thematic clusters. Initially, in this bibliometric study, 67 articles were selected from the Scopus database based on the words “Bioeconomy” and “Perceptions”. Later, the VOSviewer software, version 1.6.18, was used to perform the bibliometric analysis. The results revealed the existence of four clusters. The first cluster included articles about Bioeconomy on the perspective of the timber strategic sector and of the different actors in the field of forestry action closest to the Bioeconomy field. The second cluster included articles related to the perception about Bioeconomy by Civil Society, in general, and higher education students, in particular, as well as their opinions on the importance of the forestry sector for the Bioeconomy. The third cluster comprised the articles that consider the Bioeconomy to be the innovative way to go to ensure the sustainability of the planet, therefore highlighting the importance of knowing the perceptions and raising awareness of all strategic groups to ensure the successful transition to the Bioeconomy. Finally, the fourth cluster included articles related to the consumer attitudes and behaviours regarding the acceptance of new biofood products resulting from the Circular Economy. Technology ,5G network ,Smart cities - Abstract
The expectation created around 5G is great. Major changes are fore seen, in very different areas, which will have a great impact on people’s daily lives. It is expected that smart cities will be more efficient, more sustainable and safer, with significant impacts on the people who inhabit them and also on the people who visit them. 5G technology is not being implemented in the world in a com prehensive and similar way, there are countries that already have a large coverage of this network and others that are still barely talking about this fifth-generation technology of mobile communications. Given that there is still a great unknown and uncertainty in relation to 5G, the question that this research work intends to address is to what extent this technology can initiate an intelligent era, which, in turn, provides a better quality of life for people, which each they are in greater numbers, living in cities. Thus, this work intends to cross these growing trends, with the new paradigm that is the implementation of 5G. For this, the Scopus database was used, where a search was carried out in the most recent scientific literature on these topics, since they are very current trends. The results are dis cussed in the light of the literature and future work is identified with a view to contributing to the enrichment of those who are dedicated to these recent themes but which are in great exponential growth. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Portugal ,5G network ,Smart tourism - Abstract
When the discussion on sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication networks begins in Portugal, the implementation of 5G on the ground is taking its first steps. Portugal is one of the European Union (EU) countries that is most behind in the implementation of this technology, although the European Commission considers its implementation essential for the strategy of digitizing Europe. The question that this research work intends to address is to what extent this technology can start a smart era, which in turn, provides a better experience for tourists visiting Portugal. It is known that the tourism sector in Portugal is fundamental as an economic activity, as well as for generating more wealth and creating more jobs. Thus, this work aims to cross these growing trends in our country and in the world, with the new paradigm that the implementation of 5G in Portugal is. For this, using the Scopus database, a search was carried out in the most recent scientific literature on these topics, since they are very current trends. The results are discussed in the light of the literature and future work is identified with a view to enhancing tourism, smart tourism, and smart destinations, a set of measures that can boost these concepts will also be presented. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Sustainability ,ICT ,Agriculture - Abstract
Despite being an emerging phenomenon, the literature on how ICT impact the adoption of sustainable agriculture has aroused growing interest on the part of farmers, scientific and business communities and policy makers. There fore, the main objective of this study was to investigate the state-of-the-art of ICT use in agriculture with an impact on the sustainability of the sector. In order to achieve this objective, a computer-assisted bibliographic search was performed in February, 2023. This search included all publications available in the Scopus database and was based on the words “Impact” OR “Contributions” AND “in formation” AND “Communication” AND “Technologies” AND “Sustainability” AND “Agriculture”. Subsequently, publications were selected taking into account the following criterion: empirical studies that demonstrate evidence of the impact or contribution of ICT to sustainable agriculture. For each publication, it was col lected information about authorship and publication date, place where the study was developed, type of study, methods, objectives and findings. All studies show positive contributions as a result of the use of ICT and artificial intelligence for the adoption of a sustainable agriculture with lower resources’ consumption, namely, improvement of soil quality, greater efficiency in the use of water and energy with the use of solar energy, greater efficiency in the application of nitrogen, minimiza tion of the use of inorganic fertilizers, reduction of food waste and improvement of food security, greater involvement of farmers with sustainability concerns and promotion of more sustainable consumption. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Chestnut is deeply rooted in the Portuguese economy, gastronomy and cultural heritage. For this reasons, this paper aims to understand the behavior of Portuguese chestnut consumers, their preferences, uses, buying habits and perceptions about the benefits of consuming chestnuts. For this, a cross-sectional study was carried out based on a sample of 320 individuals. The surveyed consumers buy, on average, 6.5 kg/year. Most consumers buy fresh chestnuts and do so occasionally, mainly in supermarkets and hypermarkets, fairs or directly from the producer. The consumers prefer to buy the chestnut without packaging and the most valued attributes are quality perceived by the consumer, size and price. The district of residence and the monthly household income revealed to be differentiating factors of the frequency of chestnut consumption. In fact, chestnuts are consumed more frequently in Oporto and other Portuguese non-producer districts of chestnut and in households with an income from 580 to 1740 euros and more than 3480 euros. The size, the shell conservation state, the origin and the quality perceived by consumers revealed to be determinant factors of the purchase of fresh chestnuts. These findings point out the need to better communicate the nutritional qualities and possible beneficial health effects of chestnut consumption and to invest in R&D of new chestnut-based food, therapeutic and cosmetic products. Turnover intention ,Organizational commitment ,Satisfaction ,Higher education - Abstract
Human resources are essential to respond to changes that occur inside and outside organizations. Literature states that when employees are satisfied, they feel more involved and committed to the organization and, as such, they often express their intention to remain in the organization. In this context, this research aimed to consolidate the existing research in the field of organizational commitment in higher education. Methodologically, this research was based, in a first stage, on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta- Analyses) statement and, in a second stage, on the bibliometric analysis. For this, the search was developed, in November 2021, in the Scopus database being selected 71 publications based on the combination of the terms "higher", "education", "institutions", "organizational", "commitment" and "satisfaction”. Then, this search was limited to the “Social Sciences” area (38 publications). Finally, abstracts and, when necessary, the entire text was selected in order to verify the relevance of publications for this research, considering the following criteria: study location, type of study, objectives, sample size and contributions, totalling 35 articles. The elaboration of the bibliometric analysis was done using the VOSviewer software, version 1.6.17 and the binary counting method. The minimum number of occurrences was set at five. Three thematic approaches that were related to each other were identified. The first included the terms “addition”, “communication”, “element”, “higher education sector”, “mediating role”, “model”, “organizational performance”, “problem” and “TQM” (Total Quality Management). This approach analyses the association between TQM and organizational performance, having as mediator elements of human orientation, namely, satisfaction with communication, commitment and organizational loyalty. The second approach included the terms “academic staff”, “consequence”, “effect”, “higher education institutions”, “impact”, “implications”, “influence”, “organizational culture”. In general, it analyses the influence, effects, consequences, impact and implications of organizational culture on organizational commitment and faculty satisfaction in higher education institutions. Finally, the third approach relates organizational commitment and job satisfaction with the turnover intention (leaving the organization) of higher education employees, namely, from universities and higher education schools. This approach included the terms, “job satisfaction”, “organizational commitment”, “university”, “college”, “faculty member”, “intention”, “turnover intention” and “college”. Organizational commitment and employee satisfaction in knowledge organizations, as well as trust in top management, are able to anticipate the intention to remain or leave the workplace. Human Resources ,Higher education ,Public organizations ,Job Satisfaction - Abstract
Job satisfaction is one of the three most important predictors of well-being, alongside marriage and family [1]. Job satisfaction can be defined as a result of experiences and emotions experienced in the work environment that affect social life, affective bonds and mental health [2]. The present study aimed to analyze Job Satisfaction and to identify the factors that most contribute to improve the level of job satisfaction. To achieve these objectives, a quantitative and cross-sectional study was carried out based on a probabilistic sample of 105 Portuguese employees from a higher education institution out of 783. Therefore, the sampling error, for a confidence level of 95%, was 8.9%. The data collection took place from October 22, 2021 to January 4, 2022 and involved the administration of a digital questionnaire comprising two sections to all the employees. The first section includes questions related to the respondent's demographic and professional situation (gender, age, workplace, professional category, work functions, length of service, length of service in the same professional category, type of employment contract). The second section included the Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) developed and validated by Siqueira [2]. This scale consists of 25 items and the answers were coded using a Likert scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree). Procedures of exploratory analysis and reliability analysis were used. Employees were aged between 28 and 66 years old, with an average age of 47.9 (SD = 8.5). As for length of service, by professional category, the average recorded was 9 years (SD = 7.5). Globally, the average length of service exceeds 36 years, however, the length of service varies from 1 to 43 years. The majority, 58.1% of respondents were female and 41.9% were male. In terms of professional category, the three most representative, with more than 10% of the answers, were: Auxiliary Professors (37.1%), Invited Assistant Professors (17.1%) and Technical Superior (11.4%). Taking into account the type of work function, the overwhelming majority was teacher (72.4%) from Health School (23.8%), Technology and Management School (22.9%), Agriculture School (21.0%) and Education School (18.1%). Finally, regarding the type of employment contract, it can be seen that the majority have an employment contract for an indefinite period or uncertain-term contract (64.8%). According to the results obtained, only 20% of employees were satisfied. The factors that most contributed to increase the level of satisfaction were: satisfaction with the nature of work (mean = 4.6; SD = 1.0), satisfaction with colleagues (mean = 4.5; SD = 1.2) and satisfaction with managers (mean = 4.3; SD = 1.6). Factors such satisfaction with promotions (mean = 2.9; SD = 1.6) and satisfaction with salaries (mean = 3.2; SD = 1.6) were the ones that most contributed to the reduced level of job satisfaction (mean = 3.9; SD = 1.1). Currently, higher education organizations face several challenges in trying to improve their organizational capacity, disseminate knowledge and encourage community service (Pucciarelli & Kaplan, 2016; Lesley, 2018; Kaplan & Haenlein, 2016). In this sense, the organizational commitment of employees can be decisive for the success of organizations since it is considered an important tool to achieve organizational goals. The present study aimed to determine the level of organizational commitment of employees of a Public Higher Education institution, located in the Northeast Portugal and to determine whether the type of employment contract is a differentiator factor of the organizational commitment. Therefore, a quantitative, observational and cross-sectional study was carried out based on the application of a questionnaire. Subsequently, 105 responses were obtained. The questionnaire included the scales of organizational commitment of the three-dimensional model developed by Meyer and Allen (1991). The results showed that the respondents' global commitment to the organization, in general, was moderate. Taking into account the three dimensions of the model, employees recorded higher levels of affective commitment, moderate levels of calculative commitment and lower levels of normative commitment. Additionally, it was found that the type of employment contract was different in only two of the three dimensions of the three-dimensional model of organizational commitment, namely, normative and calculative. Nowadays, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are fundamental in all areas of study of the higher education system, playing a central role in learning and teaching. The proper use of ICT, in conjunction with modern teaching practices, can increase the efficiency of teaching and learning processes in higher education. Higher education acts on three dimensions, namely, the integration and use of new educational technologies in higher education; European convergence and the application of ICT; and innovation and education necessary to bridge the gap between higher education institutions and teachers, both socially and professionally. The main objective of this study was to investigate the current status about digital competence of higher education teachers. This short review was based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. From the definition of the objectives, the Scopus database was screened. The searches were performed in November 2021, using the combination of the keywords “ICT”, “skills”, “digital”, “literacy”, “education”, “higher” and “teachers”, as well as their synonyms. Initially, 37 publications were identified. At this stage, the following screening criterion was considered: sample constituted by higher education teachers (public and private). To identify publications that included only higher education teachers, abstracts and, when necessary, the entire text were selected. Afterwards, 26 studies were removed, leading to 11 eligible publications. The results indicate that, although digital competences are part of the current professional profile of higher education teachers and the transition to digital education is an inevitable trend in modern education, higher education institutions must continue to support teachers so that they can develop their skills. This way, online teaching and other forms of teaching and learning that have emerged from the digital age can be used to explore the opportunities presented by technology in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning. Given the almost universal use of e-learning in higher education, the literature highlights the importance of digital skills for higher education teachers who can act as teachers of the future, better preparing students for the labour market and creating a new generation that can participate effectively in online communities and other e-governance devices that promote democracy, equity and social justice. This literature review will serve as the basis for the preparation of an empirical research involving teachers from five higher education schools from Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, a higher education institution located in the inland North of Portugal (Agriculture, Education, Technology and Management, Administration and Tourism, and Health). With the development of this future research, which will aim to analyse the level of digital skills, attitudes, the difficulty of using technological tools in an educational context, it is intended to collect information that can be used to define strategies to improve digital skills among teachers from higher education. So, the aim of this research was to define the consumers profile of Terrincho DOP cheese and study their purchasing and consumption habits. To achieve these objectives, an analytical and transversal research was carried out. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire through personal interviews to a random sample of consumers from Bragança city during March, 2019. Of the 380 respondents, 57 were consumers of Terrincho PDO cheese. These consumers were mostly female (56%) with an average age of 58.3 (SD = 16.2) years old. They were married (70%), employed (50%), lived in the municipality of Bragança (90%) with 2 (40%) or 3 (28%) people in their household. Consumers of Terrincho PDO cheese differ significantly (p-value < 0.05) from non-consumers because they have higher education (53%), a monthly family income above 1200 euros and are retired (47%). The frequency of consumption of the product occurred once a month (33%) or two to four times a year (26%), while the frequency of purchase occurred monthly (69%). At the time of the purchase, most respondents choose the certified product (67%) for the safety (79%) that certification represents. Given its acceptance by consumers, the Terrincho PDO cheese proves to be a product capable of generating high added value, contributing positively to the economic development of the Trás-os-Montes region. Sharing economy describes a recent phenomenon in which ordinary consumers start to act as salespeople, providing services previously owned exclusively by professional sellers. It is considered a person-to-person activity of obtaining, giving, or sharing access to goods and services, strengthen by the use of online platforms/services. This system allows, on the one hand, to reduce the waste associated with lack of use. In addition to enabling the increase of products’ use durability by ensuring that they are used to their full potential. Through the fast pace of people's lives, the sharing economy has flourished unprecedentedly and plays a significant role in the business market. In this context, this paper aimed to identify the motivations of Portuguese higher education students for the practice of sharing economy, and to verify if gender is a differentiator factor as for the use of shared services. To achieve these objectives, a quantitative and analytical research was developed. To collect the data a questionnaire, created on Google Forms, was applied through social networks and e-mail from March to June, 2021. IBM SPSS Statistics 27.0 software was used for data analysis that involved the use of descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test at the significance level of 5%. A total of 489 valid answers were obtained. The students were aged between 18 and 59 years old, with an average age of 21.9 (SD = 3.3), and the majority were female (57.9%). The results showed that most of the respondents are familiar with the term of sharing economy (59%) and that regularly, in the last week or month, they have recycled (79%), reused (76%), and repaired (64%) goods. Most of the individuals have already used sharing services, namely, "online buying and selling service of new and used products", for example, the OLX website (66%), and "ride-hailing service", for example, Uber's services (56%). Factors such as trust, usefulness, quality of service, environmental impact, minimization of costs, internet capacity, and familiarity with this type of service, lead consumers to shared economy practices. On the other hand, it was later confirmed that the three main consumers’ motivations, which determined the choice of a sharing business, were the creation of employment, the positive environmental impact, and the possibility of reusing already existing resources. Finally, concerning the use of sharing services, it was concluded that gender is a differentiator factor in what concerns to the bicycle-sharing service (p-value = 0.031). In fact, it was male students (23%) who used this service in greater proportion compared to female students (15%). For the success of the sharing economy, it is important that consumers have confidence in the platforms used in the dissemination of products and services, and that these are of quality, otherwise consumers will no longer purchase them. Employer size ,Absenteeism ,Municipality ,Satisfaction with work - Abstract
Worker absences are costly and disruptive for Public Administration, and the trend has steadily increased over the years (Hassan, Wright & Yukl, 2014). In Portugal, the absenteeism is also increasing in public administration. For this reason, the Portuguese government recommends to public services managers the use all legal instruments that allow addressing the different needs of their workers, namely work provision regimes and working hours. So, given the scarcity of studies developed on absenteeism and satisfaction with work in local municipalities, this research aimed to analyze the association between absenteeism and the level of satisfaction with work and to verify if the satisfaction with work varies according to the municipalities size. To achieve these objectives a cross-sectional and quantitate study was carried out based on a sample of 245 workers from 6 Portuguese municipalities located in the Bragança district. To collect the data, a questionnaire was applied from April 2018 to July 2019. Data analysis involved the use of the IBM SPSS Statistics software. On average, the number of absences from work was 15.4 days at the medium-sized municipality and 13.2 days at the small-sized municipalities. It was verified a high level of satisfaction with work among municipalities workers. However, the municipality size revealed not to be a differentiator factor of the absenteeism and satisfaction with work. The main reason associated with the absence was the need to support the family, natural illness, prolonged illness, demotivation and/or dissatisfaction with work, among others. Also, no correlation was found between the satisfaction with work and absenteeism. Work ,Happiness ,Entrepreneurship ,Scopus ,Web of Science ,Bibliometric - Abstract
Well-being, involvement, commitment or happiness of workers are themes that have produced a growing interest in research in the field of management (Kolodinsky, Ritchie & Kuna, 2018; Lee, Park & Baker, 2018). So, this study was carried out in order to verify findings in the literature such as: the happiness at work enables the attainment of personal and professional goals and contributes to organizational success (Veld & Alfes, 2017); self-employment is highly valued due to the self-determination and autonomy it provides (Benz & Frey, 2008); self-employed individuals have higher levels of job satisfaction but self-employment does not provide a greater satisfaction with life because these workers work more hours and their leisure time is relatively shorter (Zwan, Hessels & Rietveld, 2018). To achieve this objective, a search was carried out on two databases, namely Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) in May 2020, based on the terms "Entrepreneurship", "Happiness" and "Work". In Scopus database, 14 publications were counted and in WoS database, 25 publications were found, of which 6 were duplicated in both databases. A bibliometric analysis was developed using the VOSviewer software version 1.6.15 and the co-occurrence technique of “full-counting” terms was used in order to build a map that shows the association between the different terms and their grouping into clusters of thematic areas based on 33 publications. Two clusters of terms have been identified. The first cluster relates happiness with being an entrepreneur, employee and independent professionally. And, the second cluster relates self-employment with satisfaction with life. Currently, digital skills are considered a decisive requirement for personal fulfillment and development, active citizenship, social inclusion and employment in the knowledge society. In this context, this research aimed to consolidate the existing research in the field of digital literacy among teachers. In methodological terms, this research was based, in a first stage, on the PRISMA statement and, in a second stage, on bibliometric analysis. For this, a search was developed, in March 2021, in the Scopus database being selected 96 publications based on the combination of the terms "ICT", "skills", "digital", "literacy", "education" and "teachers". Subsequently, a chronological filter was used limiting the research period from 2010 to 2020 being counted 80 publications. Then, this research was limited to “Article” and “Review” documents subject to double blind referee (46) published in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French (44). Finally, abstracts and, when necessary, the entire text was selected, in order to verify the relevance of publications for this research, considering the following criteria: study location, type of study, objectives, sample size and contributions, totaling 27 articles. The elaboration of the bibliometric analysis was done using the VOSviewer software, version 1.6.16 and the binary counting method. The minimum number of occurrences was set at five. Three thematic approaches that were related to each other were identified. The first included the terms "Area", "Communication", "Communication technology", "Digital competences", "Information", "Level" and "Training". This approach covered all publications that used instruments to measure the level of digital skills of teachers and identified factors that are determinants of these skills, namely, the area of training, the level of education in which teachers work, teaching experience, age, gender, among others. The second approach included the terms "Attitude", "Experience", "ICT integration", "ICT skills", "Implementation", "New Technology" and "Teacher training". In general, these publications described the digital literacy practices of teachers, the difficulties of implementation, with special attention, on teachers’ knowledge and attitudes. Finally, the third approach focused essentially on the question "how to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills needed in the digital age?" This approach included all publications with the terms, "Learning", "Process", "School" and "Technology", being associated, especially to the use of technologies in the classroom as an instrument to improve digital learning, which promotes changes in digital thinking and behavior between teachers and students, despite the existing challenges and limitations, such as the inadequate installation of ICT, time restrictions, the actors’ limitation of competencies, the attitudes and motivation of teachers in the use of technologies, among others.

Information and communication technologies have transformed the way of doing business. In Scopus database, 14 publications were counted and in WoS database, 25 publications were found, of which 6 were found simultaneously in the Scopus and WoS databases. A bibliometric analysis was developed using the VOSviewer software version 1.6.15 and the co-occurrence technique of “full-counting” terms was used in order to build a map that shows the relation between the different terms and their association in clusters of thematic areas based on 33 publications. Originality: Since the well-being, involvement, commitment or happiness of workers are themes that have produced a growing interest in research in the field of management, particularly, in the field of human resources (Kolodinsky, Ritchie & Kuna, 2017; Lee, Park & Baker, 2017) this original study was carried out in order to verify findings in the literature such as: the happiness at work enables the attainment of personal and professional goals and contributes to organizational success (Veld & Alfes, 2017); self-employment is highly valued due to the self-determination and autonomy it provides (Benz & Frey, 2008); self-employed individuals have higher levels of job satisfaction but self-employment does not provide a greater satisfaction with life because these workers work more hours and their leisure time is relatively shorter (Zwan, Hessels & Rietveld, 2018). Findings: Two clusters of terms have been identified. The first cluster relates happiness with being an entrepreneur, employer and independent professionally. And, the second cluster relates self-employment with satisfaction with life. Practical implications: This study contributes to consolidate the state of art in the fields of entrepreneurship, happiness and work/employment. Also, this study allowed taking into account quantitative studies developed in order to identify the relations between these fields.ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The authors are grateful to the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal) for financial support by national funds FCT/MCTES to CIMO (UIDB/00690/2020). Trás-os-Montes region presents a range of certified products with high cultural and commercial value such as Terrincho Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) cheese, which is manufactured with milk of the Churra sheep from Terra Quente. The aim of this research was to define the consumer profile of Terrincho PDO cheese, as well as its purchasing and consumption habits. To achieve these objectives, an analytical and cross-sectional research was developed. To collect the data, a structured questionnaire was applied through personal interviews. The respondents were approached, at random, in public spaces of Bragança city between March 1th and 27th, 2019. Of the 380 interviewees, 57 were consumers of Terrincho PDO cheese. These consumers were mainly female (56%), with an average age of 58.3 years (± 16.190), married (70%), active (50%), lived in the municipality of Bragança (90%) with 2 (40% %) or 3 (28%) people in their household. Consumers of Terrincho PDO cheese differ significantly (p-value < 0.05) from non-consumers because they had a higher education degree (53%), a monthly household income above 1200 euros and were retired (47%). The frequency of consumption of the product occurred once a month (33%) or two to four times a year (26%), while the purchase frequency occurred on a monthly basis (69%). At the time of the purchase, most of the interviewees opted for the certified product (67%) due to the safety (79%) that it represents. Terrincho PDO cheese is a product capable to generate high added-value contributing to the economic development of Trás-os-Montes region given its acceptance by consumers. This study aimed to know the tastes, preferences and consumption and buying habits of bread in the Bragança region. A quantitative and cross-sectional study was developed based on a questionnaire applied online to 215 consumers who buy food products in the Municipality of Bragança. Most consumers were Portuguese (67%), female (61.9%), lived in urban areas (85.6%) and like bread (99.1%). Wheat bread (72.1%) and whole grain bread (64.7%) are the most consumed, despite not being bread from the Bragança region (47.9%). The three types of bread in the Bragança region that are best known and also the most consumed were Nogueira, Rebordainhos and Argozelo bread. Most consumers eat bread at least once a day (62.3%), 1 to 2 slices/small breads a day (76.7%), usually at breakfast (67.9%). The preferred type of accompaniment are vegetable fats (66.5%) and dairy (65.6%). The most valued attributes were the freshness (92.2%), the fresh bread smell (87.6%), the fluffy texture (80.8%), the crispy crust (76.1%), the price (56.2%) and the long lasting (55.2%). Most consumers buy bread at the supermarket (55.2%). The quality of the bread (96.9%) and the hygiene and cleaning of the space (93.7%) are the factors most valued by the consumers at the time of the purchase. Taking into account the nationality, differences were identified in the type of bread consumed, the time of consumption and the chosen accompaniment. In fact, foreigners prefer to consume whole grain bread and special bread with cheese or cottage cheese at any time of the day. Portuguese consumers prefer rye or brown bread with jam or honey. This paper aims to examine the role of qualified products as an instrument for the sustainable development of low-density rural territories. To this end, we analyzed the production and marketing of products with Protected Designation of Origin - PDO, obtained from the 'Serrana' goat. In 2017, there were 76 producers of Transmontano Goat kid meat and milk for the production of Transmontano Goat Cheese, although a significant part of them without dairy production. Between 2010-2017, the volume of production of the PDO products under analysis was volatile. The Transmontano Goat Cheese, with an average production of 12.7 tons, is mainly sold through intermediaries and traditional trade, to local/national markets, with producer prices evolving favourably. As for Transmontano Goat kid meat, in 2017, it had over 70% of the qualified goat meat segment, with a production of 5.25 tons. Despite the increase in producer prices during the period examined, the value-added of the qualification decreased, accompanying the growing weight of large and medium grocery stores as a distribution channel for Transmontano Goat kid meat. In spite of the constraints identified, the enormous resilience of rural actors and the importance of associations for the development of the analyzed PDOs are highlighted.
