This study focuses on optimizing the storage capacity of an underground natural gas storage facility through numerical modeling and simulation techniques. The reservoir, characterized by an elongated dome structure, was discretized into approximately 16,000 cells. Simulations were conducted using key parameters such as permeability (10–70 mD) and porosity (12–26%) to assess the dynamics of gas injection and pressure distribution. The model incorporated core and petrophysical data to accurately represent the reservoir's behavior. By integrating new wells in areas with storage deficits, the model demonstrated improvements in storage efficiency and pressure uniformity. The introduction of additional wells led to a significant increase in storage volume from 380 to 512 million Sm³ and optimized the injection process by reducing the storage period by 25%. The study concludes that reservoir performance can be enhanced with targeted well placement and customized flow rates, resulting in both increased storage capacity and economic benefits. The reduction of greenhouse gases is an assumed objective of the European Community. Thus, in the future, natural gas transport and distribution pipelines will also have to deal with ensuring the transport of mixtures formed between hydrogen, biomethane and natural gas from fossil resources. Considering the increase in the amount of biomethane and the increase in the amount of green hydrogen produced, these fuels's use in natural gas distribution networks is expected. The article presents an analysis of hydrogen production methods as well as numerical models of hydrogen transportation and mixing with natural gas. Also, there are presented the results obtained at the international level regarding the thresholds for the use of hydrogen in the fossil fuel of natural gas type, as well as the effects produced by the presence of this gas on the transport and supply systems. The paper presents a critical evaluation of the equations used to calculate the flow and pressure for transport pipelines. A highly accurate method for calculating gas parameters is proposed. The natural gas consumption of the operators connected to the gas transport system depends on the gas needs. As gas needs vary in time, the whole process of gas transportation is, therefore, nonstationary. The paper presents nonstationary simulations for a gas transportation network and highlights the parameters values (flows, pressures) that are necessary to assure the safety of the system.
