Abstract

Highly efficient photocatalysts can be fabricated using favorable charge transfer nanocomposite channel structures. This study adopted pulsed laser ablation in liquid (PLAL) to obtain rGO‐bridged TiO2/g‐C3N4 (rGO−TiO2/g‐C3N4) photocatalytic Z‐scheme without the need for noble metals. In addition to evaluating the resulting nanocomposite (comprising rGO nanosheets, TiO2 nanotubes, and g‐C3N4 nanosheets) CO2 reduction effectiveness, its chemical, morphological, structural, and optical characteristics were examined using various analytical techniques. The findings revealed a synergistic interaction between g‐C3N4 and TiO2, suggesting the presence of unique interfacial bonding, as well as enhanced visible light absorption. Notably, the ternary rGO−TiO2/g‐C3N4 Z‐scheme exhibits an excellent photocatalytic performance by photocatalytically converting CO2 into CO and CH4, with 81 % selectivity towards the CO and 1.91 % apparent quantum efficiency at 420 nm. Abstract

Utilizing the solution casting technique, polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) films including polyethylene oxide and chitosan (PEO/CS) doped with titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) as nanoceramic were successfully synthesized. The study investigated how varying TiO2 nanoparticle concentrations influenced the structural, optical properties, and antibacterial activity of the polymeric matrix. XRD patterns revealed an increase in the amorphous nature of the polymer blend as the content of TiO2 NPs inside the PEO/CS blend grew. The FT-IR analysis confirmed the interaction between TiO2 NPs and the PEO/CS blend. This confirmation is attributed to the observed vibrational changes upon the incorporation of TiO2 dopant into the polymer matrix. The UV–visible spectrum aided in the determination of optical energy band gaps (both direct and indirect), showing reductions in both Egd and Egin with higher TiO2 concentrations. SEM highlighted the partial compatibility between PEO/CS and TiO2, while transmission electron microscopy depicted spherical TiO2 NPs with diameters ranging from approximately 9 to 25 nm. Antimicrobial assessments indicated heightened efficacy in all nanocomposite samples compared to the pure PEO/CS composite, with a linear correlation to the quantity of TiO2 nanoparticles present. Abstract

The urgent demand for efficient CO2 reduction technologies has driven enormous studies into the enhancement of advanced catalysts. Here, we investigate the electronic properties and CO2 adsorption properties of CumAgn bimetallic clusters, particularly Cu4Ag1, Cu1Ag4, Cu3Ag2, and Cu2Ag3, using generalized gradient approximation (GGA)/density functional theory (DFT). Our results show that the atomic arrangement within these clusters drastically affects their stability, charge transfer, and catalytic performance. The Cu4Ag1 bimetallic cluster emerges as the most stable structure, revealing superior charge transfer and effective chemisorption of CO2, which promotes effective activation of the CO2 molecule. In contrast, the Cu1Ag4 bimetallic cluster, in spite of comparable adsorption energy, indicates insignificant charge transfer, resulting in less pronounced CO2 activation. The Cu3Ag2 and Cu2Ag3 bimetallic clusters also display high adsorption energies with remarkable charge transfer mechanisms, emphasizing the crucial role of metal composition in tuning catalytic characteristics. This thorough examination provides constructive insights into the design of bimetallic clusters for boosted CO2 reduction. These findings could pave the way for the development of cost-effective and efficient catalysts for industrial CO2 reduction, contributing to global efforts in carbon management and climate change mitigation.
