The contribution of tourism to the local economy has proved particularly significant and led many researchers to study this multidimensional phenomenon. It is therefore appropriate to identify and analyze factors affecting tourism attractiveness, to propose the necessary policies. Since tourism plays an increasingly important role in the Greek economy, this manuscript aims to assess the tourism attractiveness of the Greek prefectures of foreign and domestic visitors. This is achieved by applying multiple linear regression and building on studentized deleted residuals and the diagnostics variables of leverage values and Cook's distance. Prefectures with an unusual combination of values and prefectures that may have a high impact on the regression models are determined in accordance with the methodology. Overnight stays were used as the dependent variables, and measurable variables affecting tourist attractiveness were used as independent variables, according to international literature. At the end, the manuscript shows that there are major differences as regards tourism attractiveness at the level of Greek prefectures and highlights the need for developing strong policies and practices, with a view of improving regional tourism competitiveness. This paper builds on Shift-Share analysis and aims to provide a methodological framework for studying the inequalities of Greek regions in the tourism industry. The method applied to yearly data of overnight stays, both for foreigners, and domestic visitors, for the periods 2003–2008, 2008–2013, 2013–2018, and results showing that disparities among Greek regions are generally very large for the tourism industry. The overall analysis is a useful tool for tourism management and regional policy. The paper advances Shift-Share analysis to be used as a tool of region classification, and it incorporates one-way ANOVA to examine the relationship between the inequalities concerns the policies from the last development law and tourism specialization in Greek regions. After a long period of growth, the Greek economy in 2008 tipped into recession, which lasted at the period 2008-2018 and still affects the economic recovery of the country, which appeared relatively slow due to the magnitude or the characteristics of the economic problem and the unsuccessful strategies adopted and implemented. This paper studies the evolution of the fundamental macroeconomic measures of the Greek economy and detects the key changes that have occurred during that period on data from the Input - Output Tables of the years 2010 and 2015. which provide a satisfactory context for describing the interconnections of productive sectors of an economy. The study aims to provide insights about the structural characteristics of the Greek economy, the profound knowledge of which contributes to the successful implementation of economic development policies and to the interconnection of its productive sectors, given that the intensification of relations between the productive sectors of an economy is a critical factor for a growth prospect and the expansion of productive activity brought about by developmental actions. Byline: Serafeim Polyzos, Olga Christopoulou, Dionysios Minetos, Walter Leal Filho Purpose: The present paper focuses on investigating the principal land use changes in Greece from 19711991 and attempts to uncover possible interactions between urban, rural and forest uses. Findings: The interactions do not remain stable in their direction (positive or negative) and importance (high of low) for the two time periods that have been investigated. Practical implications: The correlation analysis can provide useful insights concerning the proximate and underlying causes of land use change. Originality/value: There are no papers investigating land use changes in Greece in the prefectural administrative level covering the whole country.
