Introduction and Purpose:Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) presents a complex clinical picture, making treatment challenging. Current pharmacological approaches predominantly target the serotonin system, yet treatment efficacy remains variable. Growing interest in non-pharmacological approaches arises from challenges in identifying effective drug treatments. Dysregulation of the autonomic system and respitarory irregularities highlight the potential of relaxation methods in managing PTSD symptoms. Our study aims to assess the efficacy of unconventional methods such as hypnosis and relaxation techniques as complementary or alternative treatments for PTSD. The State of Knowledge:Numerous studies demonstrate significant reductions in negative PTSD symptoms, particularly re-experiencing, avoidance, and excessive anxiety, through relaxation techniques, meditation, and mindfulness interventions. Promising results are seen in both adult and pediatric populations affected by trauma.. Hypnosis-assisted therapy shows potential in alleviating anxiety, dissociation, and sleep disturbances. Breathing yoga and mindfulness-based therapy also show promise in reducing PTSD symptoms, although further research is needed. Conclusion:Our review underscores the potential of non-pharmacological interventions, like hypnosis, yoga, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques, in alleviating PTSD symptoms. Despite study limitations, these approaches offer valuable adjunctive therapies. Future research should focus on validating their efficacy through well-designed trials. Integrating these techniques into treatment plans could enhance overall well-being for individuals with PTSD, bearing in mind the importance of individualized care.

Introduction and purpose: Heart failure is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases worldwide. It is an important factor leading to a reduced, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) not only because of its various symptoms but also due to loss of jobs or increase in medical expenses impairing the socioeconomic status of the sick. Nowadays scientists face this problem and are trying to invent specific pharmacotherapy that allows it to extend life and improve its quality. One of the elements of modern pharmacotherapy is the combination of sacubitril with valsartan. This work aims to evaluate the effect of this drug on the length and quality of life of patients with heart failure. Materials and methods: This article is a literature review based on publications from PubMed, Cochrane Library, ClinicalKey released since 2014, keywords included: sacubitril/valsartan; angiotensin receptor–neprilysin inhibitor; ARNI; heart failure. The state of knowledge: The use of sacubitril/valsartan drugs is an established agent used to reduce the risk of death from any cause in all patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, death from cardiovascular causes and the rate of hospitalization due to exacerbation of symptoms. Some study analyses also indicate the utility of using sacubitril/valsartan in HFmrEF and HFpEF to reduce the rate of cardiovascular events and hospitalization because of heart failure. Conclusions: The use of sacubitril/valsartan is recognized to improve prognosis in patients with HFrEF. Evidence supporting its efficacy in the subgroup of patients with mid-range and preserved ejection fraction is still insufficient and requires further investigation.

Human sexuality is a component of a holistic being, a biopsychosocial state, defined by the World Health Organization as health. It is manifested in aspects of relationship, desire, sexual behavior, orientation, among others. Every year, more and more reports say that the age of sexual initiation is shifting towards younger years. It is worth noting that, according to analyses, the sexuality of the young does not differ from that of the 20th century. In boys, the motivation to engage in sexual activity is usually lust, in girls it is love and emotion. This condition is influenced by many factors: biological, genetic, environmental, family, as well as psychological factors like personality and temperament. The health care system should promote appropriate sexual behavior, along with sex education and awareness of the consequences of risky behavior, including those related to venereal aspects.

Individuals with BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations face significantly heightened likelihood of developing breast and ovarian cancers. Besides some lifestyle recommendations, like maintaining physical activity, healthy BMI, possibly early parenthood and breastfeeding, the management of BRCA1/2 mutation carriers includes gene mutation early-detection, screening, risk-reducing surgeries, and chemoprevention. Various prevention strategies exist, all aimed at monitoring patients and mitigating the cancer risks. However, even with the existence of national and international guidelines to direct prevention efforts, there is no ideal protocol that would be universally applicable for all individuals with mutated BRCA gene. This article aims to delve into the currently available surveillance and preventive strategies and explore the potential future avenues for early detection and risk reduction in BRCA mutation carriers.

Uncovering microstructure evolution mechanisms that accompany the long-term operation of solid oxide fuel cells is a fundamental challenge in designing a more durable energy system for the future. To date, the study of fuel cell stack degradation has focused mainly on electrochemical performance and, more rarely, on averaged microstructural parameters. Here we show an alternative approach in which an evolution of three-dimensional microstructural features is studied using electron tomography coupled with topological data analysis. The latter produces persistent diagrams of microstructure before and after long-term operation of electrodes. Those diagrams unveil a new insight into the degradation process of three involved phases: Nickel, pores, and yttrium-stabilized zirconium.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, an increase in the incidence of overweight and obesity in children was observed. It appears that unhealthy food choices, an unbalanced diet, and a sedentary lifestyle, as well as experiencing stress related to the pandemic, may be contributing to this disturbing trend. Chronic stress is a significant factor contributing to eating disorders and obesity in youngsters, involving medical, molecular, and psychological elements. Individuals under chronic stress often focus on appearance and weight, leading to negative body image and disrupted relationships with food, resulting in unhealthy eating behaviors. Chronic stress also impacts hormonal balance, reducing the satiety hormone leptin and elevating the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin, fostering increased hunger and uncontrolled snacking. Two systems, the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis and the sympathetic system with the adrenal medulla, are activated in response to stress, causing impaired secretion of noradrenaline and cortisol. Stress-related obesity mechanisms encompass oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, insulin resistance, and neurohormonal and neurotransmission disorders. Stress induces insulin resistance, elevating obesity risk by disrupting blood sugar regulation and fat storage. Stress also affects the gut microbiome, potentially influencing chronic inflammation and metabolic processes linked to obesity. In conclusion, chronic stress is a multifaceted risk factor for eating disorders and obesity in children, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of effective preventive and intervention strategies amid the escalating prevalence of childhood overweight and obesity.

Background: Chronic pain is a serious problem occurring in patients suffering from pancreatic cancer or chronic pancreatitis. It often contributes to anorexia and significantly deteriorates the quality of life, including the possibility of shortening the survival of such patients. Thoracoscopic splanchnicectomy is a surgical procedure consisted of the excision of the major thoracic visceral nerve or its branches, which attend the transmission of pain stimuli from the abdominal viscera. Aim of the study: The study aim is to indicate benefits of videothoracoscopic splanchnicectomy as a procedure performed in chronic pain management in patients suffering from pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis. Material and methods: The literature available in the databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar and polish scientific journals was reviewed, using the following keywords: videothoracoscopic splanchnicectomy, pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis. Results and conclusions: Videothoracoscopic splanchnicectomy is a minimally invasive yet highly effective surgical procedure, which allows to avoid traumatizing procedures such as thoracotomy or laparotomy in patients suffering from a severe chronic pain associated with pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis and other conditions. Moreover it contributes to a statistically significant decrease in pain intensity and considerably improves the quality of patients’ lives.

Introduction: The diagnosis of a serious illness in a family affects all members. The child is a special subject, as he cannot yet understand many aspects of life at such a high perceptual level as an adult. Communicating difficult information is part of the doctor's task and is one of the most difficult parts of the therapeutic process. The aim of the study: To analyze the methodology of communicating difficult information to pediatric oncology patients. Material and method: Polish and English-language scientific literature from 2012 - 2022 from databases such as PubMed, SCOPUS, Google Scholar, Web of Science was reviewed. Searches were conducted according to keywords: communicating difficult information, oncology, pediatrics, physician. Results and conclusions: One of the most well-known protocols for communicating difficult information is SPIKES. It describes the basic and necessary steps for properly informing parents and the child about the diagnosis, for example. Healthy siblings should also learn about their brother's illness, but this task falls to the parents. Psycho-oncological support for both the child and parents should be holistic, based on best practices, and tailored to the family's needs.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) prevalence is disturbingly increasing all over the world. Clinicians and patients need new ways of improving T2DM therapy. Aim of this study: The aim of this study is to present the current scientific literature on the potential hypoglycemic effects of creatine in patients with type 2 diabetes. Material and methods: A systematic review of the scientific and medical literature from the PubMed and Google Scholar databases was carried out. This was achieved according to the keywords: type 2 diabetes and creatine supplementation. 25 items of literature were qualified for analysis. Results and conclusions: Creatine supplementation, when combined with physical activity, improves glycemic control in type 2 diabetic patients. Increased glucose transfer into muscle cells by type 4 glucose transporter (GLUT-4) translocation to the sarcolemma is one of the potential mechanisms explaining these hypoglycemic effects. Creatine has a big potential to become a nutritional therapy adjuvant for type 2 diabetes. However, in order to draw firm conclusions about the efficacy and safety of creatine as a diabetic intervention, larger, longer-term, controlled trials involving type 2 diabetes with variable disease severity and different pharmacological treatments are required.

Introduction and purpose: Resistance training (RT) combined with sufficient protein intake (PI) stimulates muscle hypertrophy. There are many factors determining the influence of PI on muscle hypertrophy. The aim of the study is to analyze the current state of knowledge on protein supplementation in the context of optimizing the effects of RT-induced muscles hypertrophy. Description of the state of knowledge: The quality of protein supplements is a factor that has a significant impact on the degree to which they increase MPS. Protein meals containing all EAAs will stimulate MPS most potently. The most important factor determining the effectiveness of protein supplementation is the amount of protein intake per day in relation to body weight. PI in amounts greater than ~1.6 g/kg b.w./day does not further increase the rate of fat free mass gains induced by RE. Supplementing more protein at breakfast than at dinner is more effective in increasing muscle mass gain in response to RT. Summary: The quantity, quality and source of protien supplements, that are daily administered, are important factors contributing to the efectiveness of the supplementation. Distributing the doses of protein supplement throughout the day and consuming greater amount of protein for breakfast rather than dinner may also be beneficial in terms of augmenting muscle protein synthesis (MPS). Optimizing these conditions is conducive to achieving a positive net protein balance, which result in improving RT-induced muscle mass gain.

People living in areas with limited access to sunlight, do not produce enough vitamin D and are more likely to suffer from Multiple Sclerosis.Near the equator, where there is high exposure to the sun, the disease is almost non-existent. Aim of the study: The study aimto statistical data on the literature and presents the current state of Vitamin D deficiency as a risk factor in multiple sclerosis. Material and method: The method of study is descriptive epidemiological analysis. Information that has been used is derived from statistical data provided by the WHO. In searching for them on the WHO, PubMed website, Google Scholar, and SCOPUS. Results and conclusions: Vitamin D is a regulator of calcium and phosphorus levels and affects the development and proper functioning of the nervous system. Patients with Multiple sclerosis often have low serum vitamin D levels, which tend to decrease as the disease progresses. There are theories that a deficiency of this vitamin promotes autoimmune, inflammatory demyelination.

Background: Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disease involving the deposition of alpha-synuclein deposits in dopaminergic neurons of the black matter, resulting in a decrease in dopamine levels in the central nervous system and the development of motor and non-motor symptoms. Aim of the study: This study aims to identify clinimetric methods for evaluating patients with Parkinson's disease in the context of contemporary therapies. Material and methods: English-language scientific literature from 2012 - 2022 from databases such as PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, Google Scholar was reviewed. Searches were conducted according to keywords: Parkinson's disease, clinical evaluation, and treatment methods. 69 items of literature were qualified for analysis. Results and conclusions: The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is a diagnosis by exclusion, there are no available and inexpensive methods to diagnose the disease with certainty. The clinimetric assessment of the patient is therefore the basis not only for diagnosis but also for effective, tailored treatment. There are many assessment tools dedicated to patients with this disease entity, and these are the ones recommended for this process. Contemporary treatment methods, especially for those in whom the effectiveness of pharmacological treatment is unsatisfactory, include deep brain stimulation, enteral infusion of DuoDopa®, and subcutaneous infusion/injections of apomorphine. The inclusion of the techniques depends mainly on the assessed condition of the patient.

Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a treatment option for many haematological conditions in patients of all ages. Nutritional support is important at each stage of treatment, but particular nutritional needs and dictated support occur during the preparatory (conditioning regimen) and post-transplant periods. Patients may require nutritional treatment by the enteral or parenteral route. The quantitative and qualitative composition of meals may change. Vitamin requirements, including vitamin D and vitamin C, might also be different. An adequately composed diet, adapted to the needs of the patient, may influence the occurrence of complications such as graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), gastrointestinal disorders, infections, and reduced survival time. Haematological diseases as well as transplantation can negatively affect the intestinal flora, with negative consequences in the form of mucosal inflammation and disorders of a functional nature. Currently, aspects related to nutrition are crucial in the care of patients after HSCT, and numerous studies, including randomized trials on these aspects, are being conducted. This study serves the critical analysis of current scientific evidence regarding nutritional support for patients after HSCT.

Introduction and objective: The iliotibial band (ITB) is a complex structure located in the lateral part of the thigh and consists of longitudinally arranged fascial connective tissue. The aim of this study is to analyze the current literature regarding etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and conservative treatment of iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). Materials and methods: PubMed database were searched. The criteria for qualifying the article for the review were the following keywords: running, iliotibial band syndrome, knee injuries, conservative treatment, physical therapy modalities. 11 articles from 2017 to 2022 were analyzed. The searches included systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and review articles. Description of the state of knowledge: Iliotibial band syndrome is the most common cause of lateral knee pain in runners and cyclists. It is presumably caused by excessive tension in the iliotibial band. Excessive tension is the result of overuse disorder of the lateral knee. Key symptom of ITBS is sharp or burning pain in the region of the lateral femoral epicondyle.. Pain typically occurs during physical activity, after a reproducible time or distance of running. The diagnosis is achieved through taking clinical history and physical assessment. Summary: Treatment of ITBS is based on therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, modalities and anti-inflammatory medications. Eliminating modifiable risk factors helps prevent ITBS from recurring.

Introduction: Nutrition is defined as the acquisition of exogenous nutrients. It is a basic need of a living organism. Malnutrition has become a problem for hospitalized patients, especially in the surgical ward. The condition leads to the deterioration of the patient's clinical performance and quality of life. Ongoing nursing interventions, particularly the use of parenteral or enteral nutrition, can reduce the risk of complications resulting from the inadequate nutrient supply. Aim of the study: The purpose of this study is to analyze nutritional problems in the practice of a surgical nurse. Material and method: A non-systematic review of the available literature on nutritional problems published in the last seven years (2015 - 2022) was conducted. Databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed were searched, using the following keywords: nutritional problems, malnutrition, nutritional treatment, surgical nursing, and hospital malnutrition. Sixteen original and review papers were eligible for analysis. The criteria for qualifying articles for review were title, abstract content, keywords, and topics related to nutrition problems in the context of nursing practice. Results and conclusions: Malnutrition is a serious problem in clinical practice. Standardized scales NRS 2002, MUST, and MNA are used to correctly diagnose this problem. The nurse's role in caring for a patient with a nutritional deficit is to monitor the patient's condition, take anthropometric measurements and collect materials for diagnostic tests. This allows the correct selection of nutritional treatment individually for the patient.

Introduction: Depression is the leading cause of disability, and incapacity in the world and the most common mental disorder. Year after year, the incidence of this disease entity is increasing, therefore, depression is a serious challenge for modern medicine. Aim of the study: To synthesize the knowledge of depression as a problem in modern medicine. Material and method: A non-systematic review of scientific literature from 2012 - 2022 was carried out, according to the keyword’s depression, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment. Results and conclusions: Depression is a psychiatric disorder showing varied symptoms lasting more than 2 weeks. Prominent among them are lowered mood, anhedonia, reduced life activities, and others. Diagnosis of depression is difficult, requiring cooperation between the doctor and the patient. Treatment of depression is mainly based on pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy; unconventional treatment is also distinguished.

Background: Transplantation affects almost everyone, often affecting many almost directly, whether as donor or recipient. The presence of an incurable disease, failure, or irreversible damage to a particular organ leads the patient and his or her treatment team to seek effective life-saving methods, including the possibility of tissue or organ transplantation. The development of the field of transplantology has enabled many patients to continue living. Paradoxically, the death of one person can offer life to another. Aim of the study: To analyse the attitude towards transplantation about the dogmas of the main world religions. Material and method: A non-systematic review of Polish and English-language scientific literature was carried out according to keywords: transplantation, transplantology, religion, denomination, and attitude. No time or methodological limitation (quantitative, qualitative, etc.) was indicated to qualify publications for review. The following databases were searched: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Results and conclusions: The Catholic Church, the Protestant Church, the Orthodox Church, Islam, Judaism, and Jehovah's Witnesses do not directly oppose organ transplantation, although some denominations place certain conditions on the acceptance of transplantation. Gypsies, followers of Confucianism and Shintoism are opposed to performing transplants from deceased persons. The religions presented do not promote among their followers either to be donors or recipients of transplants. The level of transplantation worldwide varies. So far, there is a perception that undergoing this procedure is against one's religion and tradition.

Introduction: The voice is an unique communication tool, characteristic of each person alone. Lacking the ability to communicate through it, can negatively affect mental health. It turns out that voice and speech rehabilitation after surgery is widely used and allows patients to improve their functioning, giving them a chance to live a normal life. Aim of the study: The purpose of the study was to review the knowledge of voice and speech rehabilitation options for patients after laryngectomy and the results of the methods used. The text is intended to educate professionals and patients who are undergoing surgical treatment and experience concerns about their future functioning. Materials and Methods: Scientific articles were reviewed using the PubMed database using the keywords: voice rehabilitation; total laryngectomy; speech disorders. State of the art: Prevalent methods of voice and speech rehabilitation in patients after total laryngectomy include the teaching of esophageal speech, tracheoesophageal speech and the use of an artificial larynx. Of these, esophageal speech appears to be the least effective method. Under certain circumstances, an artificial larynx may be the optimal choice among certain groups of patients. Numerous studies cited prove tracheoesophageal speech to achieve the best results measurable by commonly used indicators. Summary: Total laryngectomy is not a sentence for patients. Effective rehabilitation significantly improves the quality of life and communication. It is difficult to unequivocally indicate which method of voice and speech rehabilitation is most beneficial for patients - the choice should be tailored to the individual and its preferences and chances. In his work, the specialist should seek a compromise between obtaining the best acoustic results and acceptance of the method by the patient.

Introduction: Every year, more and more people are using manicure and pedicure services performed with UV lamps. As public awareness of the harmfulness of prolonged exposure to UV light increases, there are doubts about the safety of frequent treatments using it. Aim of the study: The aim of the study was to find out whether regular use of UV nail lamps is safe and to educate patients about the prevention of potential cancer. Methods and materials: A literature review was performed in the PubMed database using the keywords: UV; nail lamp; skin cancer; risk. Resulsts: Certain clinical cases indicate that long-term, regular exposure to UVA radiation from nail lamps can increase the risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and actinic keratosis, but other risk factors may overlap. According to a statement by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the use of these devices is safe. Thus, the results of the studies appear to be inconclusive. Both the researchers who prove the safety of lamp use and those who question it unanimously recommend the use of prophylaxis and educating patients about it. Conclusions: The use of UV nail lamps is not associated with significant risks. Single clinical cases describing the development of squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and actinic keratosis appear to be anecdotal. As the low probability of cancer formation is still taken into account, it is worth taking the recommended precautions: using creams with a broad-spectrum UV filter 20 minutes before exposure or manicure gloves. Using LED nail lamps instead of classic UV lamps will also be beneficial. The topic is a developing one and will require more research attention.

Introduction: Osteoarthritis of the knee is one of the more common causes of disability in the elderly. In the United States, one in four adults suffers from the condition, half of whom are under the age of 65. The most commonly affected joint is the knee. A significant proportion of people in the 35-65 age range have degeneration in one compartment of the knee joint. Among the younger population, when non-operative methods are already failing and it is too early for surgery, there is a place for the ATLAS Knee System. Aim of the study: The purpose of our work is to present a new and innovative form of treatment for single-compartment osteoarthritis of the knee. Based on the available literature, to show the advantages, disadvantages and results of treatment with the ATLAS Knee System. Methods and materials: A literature review was conducted in the PubMed database, using the keywords: "Atlas Knee System"; "osteoarthritis"; "knee osteoarthritis". Results: The ATLAS system is built with an absorber that, as the knee is stretched, absorbs the forces acting on the medial compartment, while not putting stress on the rest of the knee joint. After patients use the implant, a significant reduction in pain and improvement in knee function is observed. Conclusion: Osteoarthritis is a significant health problem increasingly prevalent even among the younger population. The ATLAS system provides an alternative for younger people in whom conservative treatment has failed, while more invasive methods such as osteotomies and total or single-unit prosthetics are impossible or rejected by the patient. More studies are needed, on a larger number of people to accurately evaluate this system.

Introduction: Bupropion is currently mainly used as an atypical antidepressant due to its psychotropic effects. In addition, it shows high potential in reducing withdrawal cravings in addicts, which is also used in the treatment of nicotinism. However, studies in recent years have shown that it may also be useful in other conditions. Aim of the study: Our aim was to review the known usage of bupropion in the fields of psychiatry, neurology and internal medicine, and to identify potential directions for further research. Methods and materials: We reviewed the literature available in the PubMed database, using the key words: "bupropion"; "depression"; "smoking cessation"; "obesity"; "ADHD". Results: Bupropion- an antidepressant drug belonging to the group of selective norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors. Bupropion is approved by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of depression, seasonal affective disorder and nicotinism. The literature shows that it is also effective in off-label indications - treatment of antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression in bipolar disorder, obesity, neuropathic pain and cancer-related fatigue syndrome. Conclusion: Due to the specific effects of bupropion, there are many more usage for the drug than the primary indications for which it is usually used. The usage of the drug described in the literature require additional studies on a larger group of patients.

Introduction: Retroperitoneal fibrosis (Ormond's disease; RPF) is a rare condition characterized by chronic inflammation and resulting progressive fibrosis of the retroperitoneal space. Due to its low prevalence and uncharacteristic symptoms, it is often overlooked in the diagnostic process, resulting in a late-stage diagnosis when complications are already present and treatment options are limited. The aim of the study: The purpose of our study was to present, based on the available literature, the latest reports on the diagnosis and treatment of Ormond disease. State of knowledge: The diagnosis of RPF is based on an anamnesis and imaging. Sometimes a surgical biopsy of the fibrous tissue is necessary. The pathogenesis remains partly unclear. There is no characteristic laboratory marker for early diagnosis of the disease. It is important to distinguish the primary form from the secondary form, in which the trigger factors are known. In therapy, steroid therapy is still the standard. Attempts are being made to treat with other immunosuppressants and biologic drugs with good results, which speaks to the autoimmune basis of the disease. In some cases, surgical treatment and removal of fibrous tissue compressing abdominal structures is essential. Summary: Although the state of knowledge about retroperitoneal fibrosis has been greatly expanded in recent years, many questions remain to be clarified, especially about its pathogenesis and possible early clinical clues to facilitate diagnosis.

Introduction: Bile ducts hamartoma (von Meyenburg complexes) is a common but unknown pathology of the liver. It can lead to the widening of the bile ducts. It is usually detected incidentally in asymptomatic patients. There are indications of transformation into bile duct cancer or hepatocellular carcinoma. Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to draw attention to a little known, but common pathology - von Meyenburg complexes and to sensitize medical professionals to the implications it may cause during the diagnostic process. Material and methods: We conducted a case study. The research material was the patient's medical history. Case report: A 60-year-old man came to the Gastrology Clinic due to chronic epigastric pain and tenderness in the navel area. Colonoscopy ruled out pathology in the large intestine. After six months, the pain worsened. The result of the gastroscopy allowed the diagnosis of chronic gastritis, which was probably the cause of the problem. The abdominal ultrasound showed a suspicion of renal cell carcinoma of the right kidney, but the neoplastic process was excluded on the basis of the abdominal computed tomography. In the same study, for the first time, numerous minor hypodense lesions in the liver were detected. The final diagnosis was made on the basis of magnetic resonance cholangiography, where the disseminated, T2 hyperintense cystic areas were described. This suggested a biliary scythe. Conclusions: Despite the asymptomatic occurrence of biliary hamartoma, it is important to remember about the possible transformation into a malignant neoplasm. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of disseminated liver lesions. Patients should be treated symptomatically.

Introduction: Unambiguous definition of mental disorders is difficult, mainly because of the heterogeneity of this group of diseases and the clarity of the line between pathology and normal. The definition proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) is widely accepted. In practice, definitions from the legislation of a country are also important. Aim of the work: The purpose of this study is to discuss the basic issues of diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Material and method: A method of non-systematic literature review from databases such as scientific Google Scholar, PubMed, CinalHl, Scopus, Arianta, Web of Science was used. Results and conclusions: In the treatment of mental disorders, I use pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Psychopharmaceuticals are divided into several groups depending on their mechanism of action. Their selection depends mainly on the diagnosed disease entity and tolerance to treatment. The most widely used group of drugs is the group of non-selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Non-pharmacological methods include psychotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy, deep brain stimulation, and psychosurgery.

Introduction: There are 425 million adults with diabetes worldwide, 10% of whom have type 1 diabetes. The treatment of choice in this group of patients is insulin delivery. In order to avoid disease-related metabolic disorders, insulin therapy should be planned so that their risk is minimized. This often involves multiple subcutaneous deliveries throughout the day. In order to improve patient satisfaction and comfort, , "smart pumps" have been developed. OmniPod® is the first commercially available pump of this type. Aim of the study: The purpose of our work was to present an innovative form of treatment for type 1 diabetes, to demonstrate the advantages, disadvantages and results of treatment using it. Methods and materials: A literature review was conducted in the PubMed database, using the key words: "diabetes type 1"; "diabetes mellitus"; "OmniPod®"; "insulin"; Results: OmniPod® improves glycemic control and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) values over traditional therapies. The algorithm used in the pump ensures normal glycemic ranges throughout the day, without the risk of prolonged episodes of hypo- and hyperglycemia. It improves the quality of life (QOL) index thanks to, among other things, water resistance, lack of difficulties during sleep in contrast to conventional insulin pumps. Conclusion: OmniPod® significantly improves users' glycemic and HbA1c control. It allows users to forgo conventional insulin pumps or intensive insulin therapy by raising QOL and increasing patients' sense of proper disease control. Further research should be inclined to evaluate the utility of OmniPod® in other types of diabetes, as well as on the application of the technology in other disease entities.

Introduction: Myo-inositol (MYO) and D-chiro-inositol are chemical compounds known to exert an impact on multiple signaling pathways of a human body. Due to its effects on insulin metabolism and ovaries’ hormone activity their use in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) therapies has been highly recommended in the recent literature. In this article we aim to review the known and possible applications of inositol and its derivatives for treatment of various gynecological and endocrine disorders and to indicate possible directions of further investigations. Methods and materials: This article is based on the literature found in PubMed Database from the period of 2016-2022 with use of keywords such as “inositol”; “myoinositol”; “d-chiro-inositol”; “PCOS”; “insulin”. Results: The applications of myoinositol in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are very well known in recent publications. It is reported that MYO supplementation improves the quality of oocytes, regulates the menstrual cycle and ovulation rates. Prevention of gestational diabetes (GDM) amongst the patients with risk factors is likely another use of inositols. Inositol takes part in phospholipase C pathway, thus its depletion may be the cause for hypothyroidism. Inositol inhibits the expression of aromatase, the enzyme which is responsible for the growth of endometrial tissue - it may constitute a targeting point in the treatment of endometriosis. So far, no adverse effects of inositol isomers have been reported. Conclusion: The use of inositol, its isomers and derivatives represents an interesting direction in the development of the treatment of many conditions associated with endocrine disorders. There is a need for further investigations and studies on larger groups of patients to exploit its potential.

The paper is related to the material behaviour of additively manufactured samples obtained by the direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) method from the AlSi10Mg powder. The specimens are subjected to a quasi-static and dynamic compressive loading in a wide range of strain rates and temperatures to investigate the influence of the manufacturing process conditions on the material mechanical properties. For completeness, an analysis of their deformed microstructure is also performed. The obtained results prove the complexity of the material behaviour; therefore, a phenomenological model based on the modified Johnson–Cook approach is proposed. The developed model describes the material behaviour with much better accuracy than the classical constitutive function. The resulted experimental testing and its modelling present the potential of the discussed material and the manufacturing technology.

Introduction: SARS - CoV - 2 virus, which causes COVID - 19 disease, is transmitted mainly by droplets. The symptoms of infection are: fever, wet cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, headache, pain in muscles and bones, general malaise accompanied by exhaustion. Anosomy (loss of smell) and dysgeusia are also common, as well as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea. The diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection is based on molecular tests involving the detection of fragments of the viral genome in real time PCR (real time polymerase reaction) in nasopharyngeal swabs, less often throat swabs. Objective of the work: The aim of the study is to summarize the guidelines for long-term nursing care for a patient infected with SARS - CoV - 2 in the patient's home environment. Material and methods: The work was based on the method of non-systematic review of scientific literature. The following databases were searched: PubMed, EBESCO, SCOPUS, Web of Science, according to keywords in Polish and English: SARS - CoV - 2, long-term care, nursing, recommendations. The annual limits 2019 - 2020 were assumed as the search period. Results and conclusions:The SARS-CoV-2 virus appears in residential long-term care facilities primarily through its transmission from the external environment by the entity's employees. Proper management of long-term care facilities is the basis for reducing COVID - 19 transmission, and thus the number of confirmed cases. The knowledge about the recommendations and recommendations of authorized bodies regarding the proceedings limiting the transmission of the virus should be regularly updated.

Objective of the work: The aim of this study is to learn about the influence of the media on the sexuality of young Poles. Material and methods: The diagnostic survey method and the survey technique were used, based on the research tool which was the original questionnaire. 310 respondents, different in terms of sex, faith, place of residence and education, current family situation, aged from 16 to 21, participated in the study. Statistical analysis was carried out with the use of Exel 2019 and the SPSS Statisctics package, version 25, using the ANOVA analysis of variance and the Mann-Whitney and H Kruskal-Wallis t-tests. The data collection stage was carried out in the period from October to December 2019, via the Internet. Results and conclusions: Both men and women participating in the study view sexual, erotic and pornographic content in the mass media available to them, but women viewed pornographic content significantly less often than men. The main source of knowledge about sexuality for young Poles is the Internet. Television is relatively rare. Most of the respondents find it difficult to assess whether the media is a credible source of information on human sexuality. Most of the survey participants believe that the media content does not accelerate sexual initiation and does not affect their attitude towards sex. Believers were much less likely to support the credibility of mass media in the context of sexuality than non-believers. Key words: sexuality, sexual behavior, youth, media

Introduction: Plasmocytic myeloma (PCM) is a neoplastic disease with a multistage course. Monoclonal plasmocytes undergo uncontrolled, multifocal growth in the bone marrow, which results in the production of monoclonal immunoglobulin or its fragments that damage the bone marrow. Aim: The aim of this study is to present selected therapeutic possibilities of multiple myeloma. Materials and methods: The work uses the method of non-systematic review and analysis of the available scientific literature. Databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Arianta, Scopus, Web of Science were searched. The years 2005-2022 were assumed as the review period. Discussion: Multiple myeloma accounts for 1-2% of all cancer cases, and 10-15% of all hematological cancers. It is the third most common lymphoid neoplasm after chronic lymphocytic leukemia and large B-cell lymphoma. The diagnosis of PCM requires the presence of a minimum of 10% clonal plasmocytes in the bone marrow or biopsy confirmed plasmocytoma. Moreover, the CRAB and SLiM CRAB criteria are also important. Treatment should be initiated in all symptomatic patients meeting the SLiM CRAB criteria. The first stage of treatment is to induce remission of the disease. Conclusions: Thanks to the progress of medicine, an increasing percentage of patients achieve permanent remissions. The success of the therapy is a component of the earliest possible detection of the disease and the use of appropriate, individually selected drugs.

Wprowadzenie i cel: Przedstawienie tematyki przeszczepu mikrobioty kałowej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli pielęgniarki. Metody przeglądu: Przeprowadzono niestystematyczny przegląd piśmiennictwa dotyczącego tematyki przeszczepu mikroflory jelitowej w dostępnych bazach danych: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Google scholar, EBSCO, ARIANTA, pod względem następujących słów kluczowych: mikrobiota, przeszczep mikrobioty jelitowej, Clostridium difficile, rzekomobłoniaste zapalenie jelit, choroba zapalna jelit. Zakwalifikowano 21 prac o charakterze prac oryginalnych i przeglądowych: 6 w języku polskim oraz 15 w języku angielskim. Opis stanu wiedzy: Przeszczep mikrobioty kałowej (FTM) polega na wprowadzeniu do organizmu chorego biorcy zawiesiny kałowej pochodzącej od zdrowego dawcy. Wskaźnik sukcesu terapeutycznego zależny jest od głównej jednostki chorobowej, odpowiedniego doboru dawcy zawiesiny kałowej. Osoba ta powinna zostać dokładnie przebadana pod kątem obecności licznych patogenów, oznaczenia ich rodzaju oraz określenia ich jakości. FMT zaleca się w przypadkach, gdy farmakoterapia przestaje być efektywna, jest także zabiegiem wspomagającym w leczeniu wielu chorób przebiegających z dysbiozą. Podsumowanie Przeszczep mikrobioty kałowej jest wskazany w ciężkim przebiegu rzekomobłoniastego zapalenia jelit w przypadku zakażenia Clostridium difficile. W fazie eksperymentalnej są nowe wskazania wykorzystania FTM np. choroba Parkinsona, choroba Alzheimera, jednak jest on przeciwwskazany w zespole jelita drażliwego. Rola pielęgniarki ogranicza się do przygotowania pacjenta, asystowania podczas zabiegu, opieki pozabiegowe oraz edukacji chorego.

Introduction: Nowadays, the problem of eating disorders is becoming more and more common in the society. It affects not only the youth but also adults. The canons of beauty presented by tabloids or advertisements become a benchmark of value for many people who, in pursuit of a perfect figure, are willing to make many sacrifices even at the expense of their own health and life. It is estimated that about 8 – 9% of the population is affected by eating disorders in the form of anorexia or bulimia. Mortality constitutes about 20% of diagnosed cases. A timely diagnosed disorder can be treated mainly with the help of appropriate therapeutic techniques, which allows symptoms to resolve in a significant number of patients. Aim: The aim of the study is to present the tasks of a nurse in care for a patient with diagnosed eating disorders in the form of anorexia. Methods and materials: The study was based on the individual case study method. The adopted research techniques were as follows: the interview, nursing observation, measurements and the analysis of the patient’s medical record documentation. The following research tools were used for the study: the Individual Nursing Care Card, the NRS for pain assessment, the MNA for nutrition status and the Beck Depression Inventory. Findings: During the research process, eight nursing diagnoses based on the patient's health issues were made. Conclusions: Nursing problems in the care of a patient diagnosed with eating disorders in the form of anorexia arise from the disease and the accompanying complications.

Introduction. Breast augmentation is an increasingly frequent surgical intervention performed in women. This medical procedure is performed in the operating theatre or treatment room under general anesthesia. The doctor makes an incision, creates a pocket in the breast tissue and places an implant. The cut is closed with surgical sutures. A breast augmentation procedure, like any surgical procedure, is associated with the risk of complications. A nurse as a member of a therapeutic team is obliged to provide the highest quality care, prevent complications and perform therapeutic, rehabilitative, educational, preventive and health promotion functions. Aim. The aim of the study is to determine the tasks of a nurse in caring for a patient after a breast augmentation procedure by the implant placement method. Methods and materials. The study was based on the case study method, the research techniques included an interview, nursing observation, measurement and a documentation analysis. The research tools used for the study included the Individual Nursing Care Card, the Visual Analogue Scale - VAS, risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting – the Apfel score. Findings. Nine nursing diagnoses based on the patient's health issues were made during the research process. Conclusions. The nursing problems of the patient after the breast augmentation procedure by the implant placement method result from the procedure itself and hospitalization.

Introduction. Contemporarily urolithiasis is a serious problem in nephrology. This disease is conditioned by many factors, including climatic, geographical, ethnic and genetic. The most important ones, however, include diet and the composition of urine excreted. Urolithiasis can be symptomatic and asymptomatic. There are many methods of its treatment. The most commonly used methods are pharmacological and surgical ones, and modern treatment methods are also on their increase. Untreated urolithiasis can lead to many complications. Aim. The aim of the study was to determine the tasks of a nurse in the care of a patient with urolithiasis treated with percutaneous nephrolithotripsy. Methods and materials. The individual case method was used in the study, using the following research techniques: nursing interview, observation, measurement and documentation analysis. The research tools used for the study include the Individual Nursing Care Card, the Visual Analogue Scale - VAS, risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting- the Apfel score. Findings. Nine nursing diagnoses based on the patient's health issues were made during the study process. Conclusions. The nursing problems concerning the patient result from surgery and hospitalization.

Introduction. Cholecystolithiasis is one of the most common abdominal disorders. Asymptomatic cholecystolithiasis treatment is not undertaken, when clinical symptoms of the disease occur, it is usually treated by laparoscopic or classical cholecystectomy. Currently, a laparoscopic method is recognized as the most beneficial and safest method for removing bile deposits. Aim. The aim of the study is to show the nursing problems of a patient diagnosed with cholecystolithiasis, treated by laparoscopic surgery. Methods and materials. The study was based on the individual case study method, using research techniques such as observation, nursing interview, documentation analysis and measurement. The research tools used for the study are the Individual Nursing Care Card, the Visual Analogue Scale - VAS and the Apfel Score to assess the risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Findings and conclusions: During the research process, 7 nursing diagnoses were made regarding health problems of the hospitalization period of a patient diagnosed with cholecystolithiasis, treated by a laparoscopic method. The patient after a surgery involving the removal of the gallbladder suffers from pain caused by tissue disruption, nausea, dizziness and anxiety manifested mainly in the evening, making it difficult for the patient to sleep soundly.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death. Its aetiology is multifactorial, but the major risk factor is a high in salt diet. During gastric carcinogenesis, cadherin-1 (CDH1) down-expression and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX2) overexpression may be observed. The intensity of these alterations contributes to the GC invasion, its metastases and poor prognosis. As the diet plays a significant role in the aetiology of GC, it is reasonable to include the nutritional chemoprevention agents. One of the plant genus demonstrating chemoprotective properties is Allium genus, which includes garlic. The relationship between CDH1 and COX2 in GC cells treated with Allium species extract has never been evaluated. Methods: In this study, the MKN28 and MKN74 GC cell lines were treated with ethanol extracts of Allium angulosum L., Allium lusitanicum Lam., Allium sativum L. (from Malaysia and Poland), Allium tibeticum Rendle and Allium ursinum L. The cytotoxicity of the extracts and their influence on COX2 and CDH1 mRNA and protein expression were evaluated as well as their influence on doxorubicin’s (DOX) efficacy – a drug that has been used in GC treatment. Results: Among the tested species, ethanol extracts of A. sativum L. (Poland and Malaysia), A. tibeticum Rendle and A. ursinum L. influenced the levels of CDH1 and COX2, but only in the MKN74 cell line. Thus, it is possible that tumours with increased COX2 expression will be more susceptible to garlic treatment. Observed phenomenon was independent of Allium extract’s toxicity. In comparison to DOX, tested extracts were more toxic. Moreover, A. sativum revealed synergistic effect with the drug. Conclusion: In conclusion, the results indicate the potential application of Allium genus to GC chemoprevention and treatment support through CDH restoration and COX2 downregulation. This issue needs further investigations as it might be used in clinics.

Introduction and aim of the study. More than half of ischemic strokes occur above the age of 65, so a stroke is above all a disease of an old age. The problem of a stroke is crucial, because apart from a high mortality rate it also entails a disability. The aim of the study was to determine the scope of nursing care for the patient after an ischemic stroke. Methods and materials. The study was based on the case study method with the use of the following research techniques: documentation analysis, an interview, measurement and observation. Moreover, the study tools applied comprised: an individualized nursing care plan, Barthel Scale, Glasgow Scale, Dutch Scale, the authors’ own test examining the patient’s knowledge. Criteria for the care categories. Findings. After the interview, the biopsychosocial status of the patient was assessed. Nursing diagnoses were made using the empirical data for this purpose. Conclusions. The sudden occurrence of the disease, hospitalization and lack of support from relatives is a difficult and critical situation for the patient, and it disturbs normal functioning in all spheres: biological, psychological and a social one.

Introduction. Depression has become a civilization illness in recent years. Epidemiological data show an upward trend in the incidence of this illness, being often of unknown causality. Treatment of depression is multi-faceted, focused on minimizing the symptoms of the illness and psychological support. The nurse as a member of a therapeutic team is required to perform specific professional roles, i.e. therapeutic, remedial, educational, preventive and that of health promotion. Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to define the nurse's tasks regarding a patient with depression. Materials and methodology. The study was based on the case study method. An interview, nursing observation, measurement and documentation analysis were used as study techniques, and the study tools applied comprised: patient data collection guide, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Scale of Acceptance of Illness (AIS), The Nurses' Global Assessment of Suicide Risk (NGASR), MSE (Mental Status Examination) test, Body Evaluation Esteem Scale (BES). Findings. During the research process, 11 NANDA nursing diagnoses were determined regarding the patient's health problems. Due to the specificity and the course of the illness, the nursing plan, based on NIC, focuses more on the patient's mental state than on the aspects of somatic origin. Conclusions. The physical, social and mental condition of the patient with depression depends on the severity of the illness. Nursing problems result from the found clinical symptoms of the illness. The use of NNN (NANDA, NIC, NOC) allows the use of nursing interventions based on scientific evidence.

Infectious diseases, resulting from infection by various microorganisms, are still a current problem of humanity. For decades, they had led to the death of one million people, which was put an end to by the development of vaccinology, leading to a diametrical change in the global epidemiological situation. An epochal event in this process was the invention of vaccinations that significantly reduced the incidence of infectious diseases and even contributed to the almost total eradication of some of them. Vaccine adverse reactions (VARs), despite the continuous development of vaccinology, still constitute a problem. As indicated in a number of studies, their etiology is mainly related to the action mechanism of the vaccine, mistakes in their vaccination technique, as well as systemic pathologies, coexistence of infectious diseases or systemic defects associated with the site of vaccine application. The role of the therapeutic team, consisting of a doctor and nurse employed at the vaccination point, is early detection of contraindications to the technique of vaccination, prevention, as well as initial diagnosis and treatment of VARs. The article presents the basic issues related to the subject of vaccination, with the emphasis on the role of nursing staff in their realization and prevention of vaccine adverse reactions. This should be the basis for intensifying dissemination of knowledge on vaccination, leading to reduction in the incidence of adverse vaccine reactions in patients.

Aircraft touchdown is one of the most difficult and dangerous phases of a flight. The paper presents an aerial light aircraft, prepared and produced by vibroacoustic tests, using an aircraft landing and landing monitoring system (AVI). The concept is based on the use of an ultrasonic transceiver head and vibration transducer, together with an appropriate signal processing and analysis system. The system measures the touchdown speed and altitude of the aircraft in the final phase of the flight and determines the level of load transmitted to the aircraft during the landing. Thanks to data archiving, it allows for better estimation of the wear rate of the structure, which is important in determining the causes of possible malfunction. It can be used with light and ultralight aircraft and, after adaptation, in unmanned aircraft. It can also be used to evaluate the art of piloting during landing.

Introduction and purpose of the work. Bronchial asthma is one of the most endangering civilizational diseases of the 21st century. Studies show that the number of patients with bronchial asthma around the world is 300 million and it is constantly increasing. The actions taken by the nurse towards the patient depend on the duration period of the disease and the health condition of the patient, as well as the range of the expected aid. The aim of all those actions is supporting and aiding the patient to gain and sustain an optimal level of functioning with the disease in everyday life. Defining the types of actions that ought to be taken by the nurse towards the patient suffering from bronchial asthma. Material and method. A case study method was applied. A modified guide for collecting patient data was used, the scale according to Dutch Consensus Prevention of Bedsores (CBO), Barthel scale, the ACTTM – Asthma Control Test as well as the author’s test that verifies the patient’s skills and knowledge in the preparation for self-care. Results and conclusions. To reduce the risk of the disease exacerbations the nurse can suggest the patient some methods of the elimination of allergens from the environment as well as introduce and teach her the methods of stress management, because these are the main problems in the patient that can lead to the exacerbation of the disease. The main tasks of the nurse in educating the patient are the eradication of knowledge deficiencies related to the PEF self-control and the elimination of allergens.

Correlations and clustering are of great importance in the study of the Nuclear Equation of State. Information on these items/aspects can be obtained using heavy-ion reactions which are described by dynamical theories. We propose a dataset that will be useful for improving the description of light cluster production in transport model approaches. The dataset combines published and new data and is presented in a form that allows direct comparison of the experiment with theoretical predictions. The dataset is ranging in bombarding energy from 32 to 1930 A MeV. In constructing this dataset, we put in evidence the existence of a change in the light cluster production mechanism that corresponds to a peak in deuteron production.

The aim of this pictorial essay is to present the mould based HDR brachytherapy technique used at the HolycrossCancer Center for penile cancer patients. We use images to describe this method step by step.

We assumed an absolute increase in hemoglobin concentration as a factor expressing the effectiveness of the therapy. The main reason of bias of this study may be the limited group of participants that may not be sufficiently representative, the lack of randomization in some studies, and the limited number of publications in the problem area.
