Ionosphere disturbance caused by large earthquakes shows different features, depending on local time, height, epicenter location, and distance from the epicenter. When satellite altitude is high, the effect of large earthquakes does not appear right over the epicenter, but appears over geomagnetic equator and in higher latitude. While the identification of the epicenter location and day of earthquake might be possible for the satellite orbit height of 300 Km. Most probably the mechanism of the disturbance is electric field, but other reason such as variation of neutral composition might be possible. [ABSTRACT]Two problems which rise in ionosphere measurements by using DC Langmuir probe onboard Mini/micro satellite are discussed. The first problem is related to the ratio of the conductive area of satellite surface to that of the electrode which is used for the DC Langmuir probe measurement. Insufficient surface area ratio causes the satellite potential to further negative when the electrode is biased to positive. This means that the potential of the electrode is reduced with respect to the ambient plasma. This makes the Ne measurement from electron current region impossible. Measurement of Te becomes less reliable, because exponetial potion to calculate reduces. The second issue is related to contamination layer which cover both satellite surface and electrode surface. Te which is measured by contaminated electrode is, without exception, estimated higher than the true value. Although contamination effects are removed by sweeping the electrode potential so fast, generally, the measurement becomes difficult because frequency response of the amplifier system does not have enough frequency bands.

The three big earthquakes occurred in November, 1981, and in January 1982 in Philippine. Te of the afternoon overshoots which appears around 15-17 local times in the low-mid latitude totally disappears or strongly depressed about 5 days prior to the earthquake. This is explained by the excess deposit of photoelectron energy caused by the enhanced Ne which occurs below 600km. The enhanced Ne is possibly generated by westward electric field associated with earthquake. 1924年I.Langmuirによって理論的に確立されたDCプローブ(Langmuir and Mott-Smith、1924)は地球を取り巻く電離圏における基本的な物理量である電子温度、密度を測定するプローブとして、第二次大戦直後米国がドイツから持ち帰ったV-2 rocketに搭載されて以来(Reifman and Dow, 1949)、多くの観測ロケット、科学衛星に使用されてきており、電離圏研究においてDCプローブは必要不可欠の観測器として、極めて重要な役割を果たしてきた。本稿はまず、地球電離圏E、F領域、電離圏上部および内部プラズマ圏における電子温度に関して世界の最先端を走ってきた日本が得た最近の成果を中心に概説する、本稿の最後に電子温度、密度に関する未解決の物理現象、および今後の測定に関する課題について記述する。, DC Langmuir probe which was established by I. Langmuir in 1924 has been used to measure Te (electron temperature) and Ne (electron density) including plasma irregularities in the ionosphere since 1947 and its contribution to the ionospheric Physics is beyond our description. A sounding rocket experiment is proposed to carry out two experiments by the conductive bare-tether; (1) the test of the OML (Orbital-Motion-Limited) theory to collect electron, and (2) the test of techniques to determine (neutral) density profile in critical E-layer. The main driver of the mission is provide a space tether technology experiment in Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) deploying a long tape tether in space and verify the performance of the bare electrodynamic tape tether. The sounding rocket experiment will show no danger to other satellites as the tether missions YES1, SEDSAT, and ProCEDS, which is canceled just for afraid of collision with the ISS orbit. Also, the sounding rocket mission is possible to demonstrate the bare tether technology in low cost, simple mission concept, fast realization for space structures. Existence of hydrated cluster ions is a well-established fact demonstrated unambiguously through laboratory simulations and in situ measurements in the D region of the ionosphere. A series of experiments was recently conducted at Sagamihara, Japan with the intention of detecting some the ions, which though predicted, have eluded detection in laboratory. The other motivation was to look for heavier ions in conditions close to ionospheric D region so that, with the availability of better ion mass spectrometers, these could now be detected by in situ experiments. Results of these experiments point to a new aspect, viz., the existence of neutral cluster molecules, which (a) have ionization potential of less than 10.2 eV, (b) have life times in excess of 90 min and (c) are formed in limited pressure range. Two neutral cluster molecules, which have been detected, are NO(H2O)4 and a molecule with mass number 131, which could probably be H3ONO(H2O)3N2. S-310-33号機は大気光縞々構造の生成メカニズムの解明を主目的として2004年1月18日0時30分に鹿児島県内之浦宇宙空間観測所から打ち上げられた。本ロケットに搭載されたFLP(高速ラングミューアプローブ)は高度約80km以上での電子温度、電子密度を測定するために開発された。これらのデータは同時に測定される酸素原子密度や中性大気の風とともに議論に用いられ、特に熱圏下部における中性大気と電離大気間の熱エネルギー収支と力学、運動量輸送に関する総合的な研究が行なわれる。ロケットの飛翔時にはFLPは1部不具合があったものの、良好なデータを取得して電子温度と電子密度を算出することが可能であった。観測データからは局所的な温度構造、密度構造が得られた他、飛翔時に高度89km付近に著しく密度勾配が急な領域が存在したことを明らかにしている。, S-310-33 sounding rocket was launched from Uchinoura Space Center in Kagoshima on January 18th, 2004. The Fast Langmuir Probe (FLP) onboard the rocket was developed to measure the electron temperature and number density above 80 km altitude in the ionospheric D and E regions. These data are used to investigate the generation mechanism of wavy airglow structure which is a main scientific topic in the present sounding rocket experiment, together with the atomic oxygen density and the neutral wind simultaneously measured on the rocket. The FLP can provide a spatial distribution of the electron temperature and density along the rocket trajectory, which will also be used to discuss the dynamics and energetic in the lower thermosphere. During the rocket flight, the FLP successfully measured the voltage versus current relationship of the probe, from which the electron temperature and density can be estimated, despite a minor problem with the electronic circuit. Both the electron temperature and density indicate a spatial structure which suggests a possible existence of the dynamical process. 大気光波状構造形成過程の解明を目的とするWAVE2004キャンペーンの一環として、観測ロケットS-310-33号機ロケット実験が行われた。本ロケット実験では、酸素原子密度・電子密度・大気光発光強度の鉛直分布を観測したほか、微細な大気波動の特性を解明するため中間圏・下部熱圏での風系を高精度で直接測定できるフォイル・チャフを用いた観測を行った。測定は高度96-85kmの領域で行われ、高度89km以上では非常に強い北向きの風が、それ以下では東向きの風が卓越していたことが分かった。また同じくS-310-33号機に搭載されたラングミュアプローブ(FLP)および中波帯電波受信機(MFR)の観測から、高度89km付近において急激な電子密度の変動があったとされている。本研究では、この89km付近にみられる電子密度の変動と中性風との関係について、Wind shear理論で説明できるか検証を行った。, Foil chaff experiment using a sounding rocket S-310-33 was carried out during the WAVE2004 campaign. This is a campaign to study the formation process of the waves in the airglow structures. S-310-33 was launched at 0:30 JST on the 18th January 2004, from Uchinoura, Japan and about 20,000 foils were successfully ejected and tracked by primary radar. The velocity vector of the neutral wind was obtained in the height range of 96 - 85 km. The results indicate a very strong northward wind above 89 km and an eastward wind below. Preliminary results of Fast Langmuir Probe (FLP) and Medium Frequency Receiver (MFR) show that electron density has a significant increase at about 89 km. NO(+) plasma was produced inside a chamber using an EUV source and controlled amount of water vapor was introduced to produce cluster ions. Ion formation started within a minute but the time required for attaining peak concentration for different ions varied from 1 min to 40 min. Positive ions detected for the first time in this experiment were 33(+), 54(+), 66(+), 71(+), 76(+), 83(+), 86(+), 93(+), 94(+), 102(+), 112(+), 117(+), 131(+) (with high concentration) and 19(+), 29(+) and 37(+) (with low concentrations). In addition, a number of other ions were detected with lower concentrations. Concentration of most of the ions was strongly dependent on NO and water vapor pressures. Effect of lower and upper thresholds of chamber pressure, for the production of cluster ions was observed clearly. These pressure thresholds correspond to an altitude range of 50 to 100 km in the ionosphere, where cluster ions have been observed., 資料番号: AA0047901003

音響光学素子を用いて、太陽吸光法により成層圏の大気微量成分を測定するための新しい分光器を開発した。分光器の主な構成は、音響光学素子、音響光学素子に印加する高周波を作る高周波発信機そして光検出器としての光電子増倍管である。重量は4.0kg、消費電力は5.0Wである。本分光器の分光波長範囲は410〜460nm、波長分解能は0.85nmである。2002年9月12日三陸大気球観測所において、本観測器を搭載し成層圏NO2を観測する気球実験が行われた。実験は成功し、解析の結果、高度30kmで3.0x10(exp 9)cm(sup -3)のNO2密度ピークがあることがわかった。この結果は衛星UARSに搭載されているHALOEによって本実験の10日後に観測されたNO2高度分布と非常に良く一致していることがわかった。, A spectrometer has been developed that uses an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) to measure minor constituents of troposphere and stratosphere by sun light absorption. The spectrometer consists of an AOTF, an RF generator to drive the AOTF and a photomultiplier to detect the light selected with AOTF. The weight of the instrument is 4.0 kg and power consumption is 7.0 W. A wavelength range to be scanned by spectrometer is 410 to 460 nm, and resolution of wavelength is 0.85 nm. A balloon (BT5-21) which accommodates the newly developed instrument was launched to measure NO2 at Sanriku Balloon Center on September 12, 2002. The results that was obtained successfully showed that height of NO2 maximum is 30 km and NO2 maximum density is 3.0 x 10(exp 9) cm(sup -3). 米国NASAによって打ち上げられたパイオニア・ヴィーナス・オービターのデータを用い、金星電離圏のドレイプ磁場の形状を解析した。電離圏で観測される磁場は惑星間空間磁場がバウショックを通過し、電離圏内部に入り込んできたものである。この解析からその磁力線の形状は昼側では水平、経度150〜200度で垂直であることが分かった。ドレイプ磁場の形状は太陽風動圧によらないことも分かった。電離圏プラズマの非対称な昼夜間対流がこの経度方向の非対称性を生み出していると考えられる。電離圏プラズマが局所的に枯渇する「ホール」と呼ばれる現象がパイオニア・ヴィーナス・オービターにより観測された。ホール中心での電子温度は周囲の電子温度より高いケースと低いケースの2種類あることが観測されている。この温度の違いは電離圏ドレイプ磁場の形状によって説明できることが分かった。温度が高い場合、磁力線は電離圏の外につながり容易に熱が太陽風領域から流入する。温度が低い場合は磁力線がループし、熱は進入できない。, 資料番号: AA0046920028

1970年代初頭から行われてきた観測ロケット実験により、電離圏D領域、E領域、F領域のプラズマに関する測定が行われてきた。これらの測定の中でも電子温度観測は最も頻繁に行われてきた項目の1つであるが、その統計的解析により限られた条件(冬季の午前11時前後、高度105〜110km)で電子温度が背景に対し局所的に数100Kから1,000K上昇する高電子温度層が存在することが報告されている。新規開発の測定器を観測ロケットに搭載し、高電子温度層生成メカニズムの解明を目指すロケット実験を提案中である。本実験で用いられる新しい観測手法は将来の観測ロケット、地球周回衛星、惑星探査機に搭載可能であろう。本稿では高電子温度層観測のあらましを述べるとともに、解明のためのロケット実験計画の目的、方法などについて述べる。, 資料番号: AA0046920049

GPS衛星から送信される2周波の電波の伝搬遅延から、全電子数(Total Electron Content: TEC)が求まる。TECとは、衛星と受信機を結ぶ伝播経路上に含まれる電子の積分値であり、1m(sup 2)に含まれる電子の数で表される。このデータには各送信・受信機の持つバイアスが含まれている。このバイアスを最小2乗法で推定することにより、TECの絶対値を算出することができる。日本には現在、国土地理院により約1,000点の受信機(GEONET: GPS Earth Observation NETwork)が配置されており、30秒という高時間分解能、緯度・経度0.15度という高空間分解能でTECを求めることができる。本研究は絶対値TECの基本的な振る舞いを調べることを目的として、1999年5月〜2002年12月のTEC絶対値の経験的モデルを作成し、統計的解析を行った。地方時・太陽活動度・季節の各依存性を求めた。電離圏トップサイドの影響を見積もるためにNmF2との比較を行った。また、冬季夜間においてTEC絶対値の異常増加が観測された。この原因究明のため、IGS受信局との比較から考察を行っていく。GEONETの密なデータを利用した、絶対値TECの統計的解析は世界初の試みである。, Empirical models of the Total Electron Content (TEC) over Japan are developed with GPS-based observations to investigate fundamental behavior of absolute TEC. The network of about 1,000 GPS receivers, which are installed by the Geographical Survey Institute (GSI), realizes the dense mapping of TEC over Japan. Recently, many researches using TEC are made. TEC is practically used to evaluating the influence of the earth ionosphere in satellite communication. However, the statistical analysis and models of absolute TEC with GEONET was not made so far. Since absolute TEC is an integration value along the ray path, it differs from the behavior of maximum electron density of the F2 layer (NmF2), which is obtained with Ionosonde. TEC is influenced from compositions of bottomside of the ionosphere, neutral winds of topside of the ionosphere, and the plasmasphere. Therefore, more information is included in TEC than NmF2. However, the many features of TEC still remain to be studied. Statistical analyses of absolute TEC of Japan from May 1999 to December 2002 are performed. Dependence of the TEC variation is investigated on the local-time, season and 10.7-cm solar flux index (F 10.7). The contribution of topside of ionosphere is discussed in a comparison of NmF2. Seasonal anomaly and equinoctial asymmetry of electron density in the ionosphere observed with the Ionosonde and MU radar has been confirmed using TEC derived from the GPS data. However, the season to take the maximum of TEC and NmF2 differs slightly. Anomalous nighttime increase in a TEC was observed in winter. These increases appear mainly in high and mid-latitude and are discussed in a comparison of international GPS service (IGS) data., 資料番号: AA0045981027

The seasonal and latitudinal variations of the correlation between the small-scale structures of ozone mixing ratio and potential temperature are investigated using ozonesonde data to reveal the role of vertical and horizontal advections in creating such small-scale structures of ozone in the lower stratosphere. In the mid-latitude, the correlation between ozone and potential temperature has a maximum around the altitude of 20-25 km from summer to autumn. The relative variation of ozone mixing ratio increases with decreasing of the correlation between ozone and potential temperature. This indicates that the variation of ozone mixing ratio is mainly influenced by horizontal advections, which do not necessarily make a good correlation between the ozone and potential temperature. Such processes do not seem to be gravity waves. It is suggested that not only the distinct structures of ozone, which are well studied in the past, but also the smaller structures are created by the horizontal advection., 資料番号: AA0045981034

ロケット実験によって得られた電子密度の高度プロファイルから重力波パラメータを見積もった。ロケット実験はWAVE2000キャンペーンの一環として行われ、電子密度および酸素原子密度の高度分布を観測した。いずれのプロファイルにも大気波動によると思われる擾乱が見られた。これらの擾乱構造を作り出した大気波動は水平波長が鉛直波長(高度分布の擾乱構造から10km程度と推測される)に対して非常に長い慣性重力波と考えられ、定常状態を仮定することによってこの重力波の鉛直・水平波長、東西風擾乱振幅、鉛直・水平位相速度を算出した。また、これらをチャフ・MFレーダ・MUレーダで同時間帯に観測した中性風速と比較することによって、その妥当性を示した。, 資料番号: AA0045981045
