PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the association between antifungal susceptibility as measured by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and clinical outcomes in fungal keratitis. METHODS: This pre-specified secondary analysis of the Mycotic Ulcer Treatment Trial II (MUTT II) involved patients with filamentous fungal keratitis presenting to Aravind Eye Hospitals in South India. Antifungal susceptibility testing for natamycin and voriconazole was performed on all samples with positive fungal culture results according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute Guidelines. The relationship between MIC and clinical outcomes of best-corrected visual acuity, infiltrate or scar size, corneal perforation, need for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty, and time to re-epithelialization were assessed. RESULTS: We obtained MIC values from 141 patients with fungal keratitis. The most commonly cultured organisms were Aspergillus (46.81%, n = 66) and Fusarium (44.68%, n = 63) species. Overall, there was no association between antifungal MICs and clinical outcomes. Subgroup analysis revealed that among Fusarium-positive cases, higher voriconazole MIC was correlated with worse three-month best-corrected visual acuity (p = 0.03), increased need for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty (p = 0.04), and time to re-epithelialization (p = 0.03). No significant correlations were found among Aspergillus-positive cases. There were no significant correlations found between natamycin MIC and clinical outcomes among organism subgroups. CONCLUSIONS: Decreased susceptibility to voriconazole was associated with increased odds of requiring a therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty in Fusarium-positive cases. Susceptibility to natamycin was not associated with any of the measured outcomes.

Data extraction is a crucial, yet labor-intensive and error-prone part of evidence synthesis. To date, efforts to harness machine learning for enhancing efficiency of the data extraction process have fallen short of achieving sufficient accuracy and usability. With the release of large language models (LLMs), new possibilities have emerged to increase efficiency and accuracy of data extraction for evidence synthesis. The objective of this proof-of-concept study was to assess the performance of an LLM (Claude 2) in extracting data elements from published studies, compared with human data extraction as employed in systematic reviews. Our analysis utilized a convenience sample of 10 English-language, open-access publications of randomized controlled trials included in a single systematic review. We selected 16 distinct types of data, posing varying degrees of difficulty (160 data elements across 10 studies). We used the browser version of Claude 2 to upload the portable document format of each publication and then prompted the model for each data element. Across 160 data elements, Claude 2 demonstrated an overall accuracy of 96.3% with a high test-retest reliability (replication 1: 96.9%; replication 2: 95.0% accuracy). Overall, Claude 2 made 6 errors on 160 data items. The most common errors (n = 4) were missed data items. Importantly, Claude 2's ease of use was high; it required no technical expertise or labeled training data for effective operation (i.e., zero-shot learning). Based on findings of our proof-of-concept study, leveraging LLMs has the potential to substantially enhance the efficiency and accuracy of data extraction for evidence syntheses.

PURPOSE: This study sought to identify the sources of differential performance and misclassification error among local (Indian) and external (non-Indian) corneal specialists in identifying bacterial and fungal keratitis based on corneal photography. METHODS: This study is a secondary analysis of survey data assessing the ability of corneal specialists to identify acute bacterial versus fungal keratitis by using corneal photography. One-hundred images of 100 eyes from 100 patients with acute bacterial or fungal keratitis in South India were previously presented to an international cohort of cornea specialists for interpretation over the span of April to July 2021. Each expert provided a predicted probability that the ulcer was either bacterial or fungal. Using these data, we performed multivariable linear regression to identify factors predictive of expert performance, accounting for primary practice location and surrogate measures to infer local fungal ulcer prevalence, including locality, latitude, and dew point. In addition, Brier score decomposition was used to determine experts reliability (calibration) and resolution (boldness) and were compared between local (Indian) and external (non-Indian) experts. RESULTS: Sixty-six experts from 16 countries participated. Indian practice location was the only independently significant predictor of performance in multivariable linear regression. Resolution among Indian experts was significantly better (0.08) than among non-Indian experts (0.01; P < 0.001), indicating greater confidence in their predictions. There was no significant difference in reliability between the two groups ( P = 0.40). CONCLUSION: Local cornea experts outperformed their international counterparts independent of regional variability in tropical risk factors for fungal keratitis. This may be explained by regional characteristics of infectious ulcers with which local corneal specialists are familiar.

BACKGROUND: It remains uncertain which endothelial keratoplasty (EK) technique yields the best outcomes while maintaining safety, particularly in eyes with coexisting ocular conditions. Moreover, the impact of endothelial cell loss (ECL) on long-term graft survival requires further investigation. Adjuvant ripasudil, a rho kinase inhibitor, may address the challenge of ECL in corneal transplantation. This paper presents the protocol for the Descemet Endothelial Thickness Comparison Trial 1 (DETECT 1), a multicentre, outcome-masked, randomised, placebo-controlled, four-arm clinical trial. METHODS: A total of 160 eligible patients with endothelial dysfunction will be enrolled from five participating sites in the USA. The patients will be randomly assigned in a 2×2 factorial design to one of the following treatment groups: group 1-ultrathin Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (UT-DSAEK) plus topical ripasudil 0.4%; group 2-UT-DSAEK plus topical placebo; group 3-Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) plus topical ripasudil 0.4% and group 4-DMEK plus topical placebo. Primary outcomes include the best spectacle-corrected visual acuity at 12 months and ECL at 12 months. Secondary outcomes include visual acuity at different time points, vision-related quality of life, endothelial cell morphology and cost-effectiveness. RESULTS: The study outcomes will be analysed using mixed effects linear regression models, taking into account the treatment arms and relevant covariates. Adverse events, including rebubble procedures, graft failure and graft rejection, will be documented and analysed using appropriate statistical methods. CONCLUSION: DETECT I aims to provide evidence on the comparative effectiveness of UT-DSAEK and DMEK, as well as the potential benefits of adjuvant topical ripasudil in reducing ECL. The results of this trial will contribute to optimising corneal transplantation techniques and improving long-term graft survival, while also exploring the cost-effectiveness of these interventions. Dissemination of findings through peer-reviewed publications and national/international meetings will facilitate knowledge translation and guide clinical practice in the field of corneal transplantation. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: A data and safety monitoring committee (DSMC) has been empaneled by the NEI.All study protocols will be subject to review and approval by WCG IRB as the single IRB of record.This study will comply with the National Institute of Health (NIH) Data Sharing Policy and Policy on the Dissemination of NIH-Funded Clinical Trial Information and the Clinical Trials Registration and Results Information Submission rule. Abstract Background Systematic reviews (SRs) are time-consuming and labor-intensive to perform. With the growing number of scientific publications, the SR development process becomes even more laborious. This is problematic because timely SR evidence is essential for decision-making in evidence-based healthcare and policymaking. Numerous methods and tools that accelerate SR development have recently emerged. To date, no scoping review has been conducted to provide a comprehensive summary of methods and ready-to-use tools to improve efficiency in SR production. Objective To present an overview of primary studies that evaluated the use of ready-to-use applications of tools or review methods to improve efficiency in the review process. Methods We conducted a scoping review. An information specialist performed a systematic literature search in four databases, supplemented with citation-based and grey literature searching. We included studies reporting the performance of methods and ready-to-use tools for improving efficiency when producing or updating a SR in the health field. We performed dual, independent title and abstract screening, full-text selection, and data extraction. The results were analyzed descriptively and presented narratively. Results We included 103 studies: 51 studies reported on methods, 54 studies on tools, and 2 studies reported on both methods and tools to make SR production more efficient. A total of 72 studies evaluated the validity (n = 69) or usability (n = 3) of one method (n = 33) or tool (n = 39), and 31 studies performed comparative analyses of different methods (n = 15) or tools (n = 16). 20 studies conducted prospective evaluations in real-time workflows. Most studies evaluated methods or tools that aimed at screening titles and abstracts (n = 42) and literature searching (n = 24), while for other steps of the SR process, only a few studies were found. Regarding the outcomes included, most studies reported on validity outcomes (n = 84), while outcomes such as impact on results (n = 23), time-saving (n = 24), usability (n = 13), and cost-saving (n = 3) were less often evaluated. Conclusion For title and abstract screening and literature searching, various evaluated methods and tools are available that aim at improving the efficiency of SR production. However, only few studies have addressed the influence of these methods and tools in real-world workflows. Few studies exist that evaluate methods or tools supporting the remaining tasks. Additionally, while validity outcomes are frequently reported, there is a lack of evaluation regarding other outcomes.

Abstract Background Infectious keratitis secondary to fungus or acanthamoeba often has a poor outcome despite receiving the best available medical therapy. In vitro rose bengal photodynamic therapy (RB-PDT) appears to be effective against fungal and acanthamoeba isolates (Atalay HT et al., Curr Eye Res 43:1322–5, 2018, Arboleda A et al. Am J Ophthalmol 158:64-70, 2014). In one published series, RB-PDT reduced the need for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty in severe bacterial, fungal, and acanthamoeba keratitis not responsive to medical therapy. Methods This international, randomized, sham and placebo controlled 2-arm clinical trial randomizes patients with smear positive fungal and acanthamoeba and smear negative corneal ulcers in a 1:1 fashion to one of two treatment arms: 1) topical antimicrobial plus sham RB-PDT or 2) topical antimicrobial plus RB-PDT. Discussion We anticipate that RB-PDT will improve best spectacle-corrected visual acuity and also reduce complications such as corneal perforation and the need for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty. This study will comply with the NIH Data Sharing Policy and Policy on the Dissemination of NIH-Funded Clinical Trial Information and the Clinical Trials Registration and Results Information Submission rule. Abstract Background Small songbirds respond and adapt to various geographical barriers during their annual migration. Global flyways reveal the diverse migration strategies in response to different geographical barriers, among which are high-elevation plateaus. However, few studies have been focused on the largest and highest plateau in the world, the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP) which poses a significant barrier to migratory passerines. The present study explored the annual migration routes and strategies of a population of Siberian Rubythroats (Calliope calliope) that breed on the north-eastern edge of the QTP. Methods Over the period from 2021 to 2023, we applied light-level geolocators (13 deployed, seven recollected), archival GPS tags (45 deployed, 17 recollected), and CAnMove multi-sensor loggers (with barometer, accelerometer, thermometer, and light sensor, 20 deployed, six recollected) to adult males from the breeding population of Siberian Rubythroat on the QTP. Here we describe the migratory routes and phenology extracted or inferred from the GPS and multi-sensor logger data, and used a combination of accelerometric and barometric data to describe the elevational migration pattern, flight altitude, and flight duration. All light-level geolocators failed to collect suitable data. Results Both GPS locations and positions derived from pressure-based inference revealed that during autumn, the migration route detoured from the bee-line between breeding and wintering grounds, leading to a gradual elevational decrease. The spring route was more direct, with more flights over mountainous areas in western China. This different migration route during spring probably reflects a strategy for faster migration, which corresponds with more frequent long nocturnal migration flights and shorter stopovers during spring migration than in autumn. The average flight altitude (1856 ± 781 m above sea level) was correlated with ground elevation but did not differ between the seasons. Conclusions Our finding indicates strong, season-dependent impact of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau on shaping passerine migration strategies. We hereby call for more attention to the unexplored central-China flyway to extend our knowledge on the environment-migration interaction among small passerines.

However, there are uncertainties regarding the reproducibility and reliability of this assay.Methods: In this prospective, single-center study, cytokine responses (interleukin 8, interferon-α, interferon-γ, interleukin 10, interleukin 1-β, interleukin 6, and tumor necrosis factor-α) to ex vivo whole blood LPS stimulation were assessed in 12 healthy volunteers. Cytokine levels were measured at 0, 2, and 4 h using a multiplex immunoassay (Luminex ®). Stimulation was repeated after six weeks. We examined reproducibility across technical and biological replicates at baseline and between repeated experiments after 6 weeks based on the area under the curve (AUC) of the individual cytokines using Pearson’s correlation coefficient and the mean coefficient of variation.Results: The lowest mean coefficients of variation were observed for the technical replicates (5.4 to 9.2%), followed by the biological replicates (8.1 to 24.8%), and the repeated experiments after 6 weeks (17 to 31.2%). Between the baseline and 6-week AUCs, the following Pearson correlation coefficients R were observed: interleukin 10, 0.97; interferon-α, 0.84; interleukin 1-β, 0.83; interleukin 8, 0.79; interleukin 6, 0.73; interferon-γ, 0.73; and tumor necrosis factor-α, 0.63.Discussion: The level of agreement between the baseline and week-6 cytokine response to ex vivo LPS stimulation was high across the seven cytokines analyzed. While interleukin 10 exhibited the lowest level of variability over time, tumor necrosis factor-α showed the highest variability in repeated experiments, which should be considered in the design and interpretation of future studies.Keywords: LPS, lipopolysaccharide, inflammation, endotoxin

Abstract Background In the initial phase of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, masking has been widely accepted in healthcare institutions to mitigate the risk of healthcare-associated infection. Evidence, however, is still scant and the role of masks in preventing healthcare-associated SARS-CoV-2 acquisition remains unclear.We investigated the association of variation in institutional mask policies with healthcare-associated SARS-CoV-2 infections in acute care hospitals in Switzerland during the BA.4/5 2022 wave. Methods SARS-CoV-2 infections in hospitalized patients between June 1 and September 5, 2022, were obtained from the “Hospital-based surveillance of COVID-19 in Switzerland”-database and classified as healthcare- or community-associated based on time of disease onset. Institutions provided information regarding institutional masking policies for healthcare workers and other prevention policies. The percentage of healthcare-associated SARS-CoV-2 infections was calculated per institution and per type of mask policy. The association of healthcare-associated SARS-CoV-2 infections with mask policies was tested using a negative binominal mixed-effect model. Results We included 2’980 SARS-CoV-2 infections from 13 institutions, 444 (15%) were classified as healthcare-associated. Between June 20 and June 30, 2022, six (46%) institutions switched to a more stringent mask policy. The percentage of healthcare-associated infections subsequently declined in institutions with policy switch but not in the others. In particular, the switch from situative masking (standard precautions) to general masking of HCW in contact with patients was followed by a strong reduction of healthcare-associated infections (rate ratio 0.39, 95% CI 0.30–0.49). In contrast, when compared across hospitals, the percentage of health-care associated infections was not related to mask policies. Conclusions Our findings suggest switching to a more stringent mask policy may be beneficial during increases of healthcare-associated SARS-CoV-2 infections at an institutional level.

We explored the mediating role of prior knowledge on the relation between intelligence and learning proportional reasoning. What students gain from formal instruction may depend on their intelligence, as well as on prior encounters with proportional concepts. We investigated whether a basic curriculum unit on the concept of density promoted students' learning in a training on proportional reasoning. A 2 × 2 design with the factors basic curriculum unit (with, without) and intervention context to introduce proportional reasoning (speed, density) was applied in two consecutive, randomized classroom studies (N1 = 251, N2 = 566 fourth- and fifth-graders; 49%/56% female). We controlled for intelligence and mathematical achievement. We expected the combination of having received the basic curriculum unit on floating and sinking and proportional reasoning introduced via density (a familiar problem-solving context for this group) to be especially favorable. Whereas this hypothesis was not supported, we showed that mathematical achievement mediated the relation between intelligence and proportional reasoning and enabled learners to better exploit the learning opportunities.

Introduction It remains uncertain whether Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) or Descemet stripping only (DSO) yields better outcomes in patients with symptomatic Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). This paper presents the protocol for the Descemet Endothelial Thickness Comparison Trial II (DETECT II), a multicentre, outcome-masked, randomised, placebo-controlled, clinical trial comparing DMEK to DSO with ripasudil (DSO-R) for this patient population.Methods and analysis A total of 60 patients with endothelial dysfunction due to symptomatic FECD will be enrolled from seven participating sites in the USA. The patients will be randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to one of the following treatment groups: group 1—DMEK plus topical placebo and group 2—DSO plus topical ripasudil 0.4%. The enrolment period is 24 months. The primary outcome is best spectacle-corrected visual acuity at 12 months. Secondary outcomes include peripheral and central endothelial cell density, visual acuity, vision-related quality of life and Pentacam Scheimpflug tomography. Study outcomes will be analysed using mixed effects linear regression. Adverse events, including rebubble procedures, endothelial failure and graft rejection, will be documented and analysed using appropriate statistical methods. DETECT II aims to provide evidence on the comparative effectiveness of DMEK and DSO-R. The results of this trial will contribute to optimising the treatment of FECD, while also exploring the cost-effectiveness of these interventions. In this study, the multiaxial fatigue strength of full-scale transversal attachment is assessed and compared to original experimental results and others found in the literature. Mild strength S235JR steel is used and an exploratory investigation on the use of high strength S690QL steel and the effect of non-proportional loading is presented. The study focuses on non-load carrying fillet welds as commonly used in bridge design and more generally between main girders and struts. The experimental program includes 33 uniaxial and multiaxial fatigue tests and was partially carried out on a new multiaxial setup that allows proportional and non-proportional tests in a typical welded detail. The fatigue life is then compared with estimations obtained from local approaches with the help of 3D finite element models. The multiaxial fatigue life assessment with some of the well-known local approaches is shown to be suited to the analysis under multiaxial stress states. The accuracy of each models and approaches is compared to the experimental values considering all the previously cited parameters.

El presente artículo busca contribuir al desarrollo y consolidación de los estudios sobre la gourmetización y la gentrificación alimentaria, enfatizando los efectos que estos procesos tienen en ámbitos que exceden a la vida urbana. En ese marco, se propone recuperar los engranajes de la cadena de valor y sus localizaciones –desde los barrios gentrificados hasta las comunidades rurales agrícolas–, indicando los procesos de valorización y desvalorización y cómo estos afectan de forma desigual a los actores involucrados. Se enfatiza sobre este punto, estableciendo un diálogo interdisciplinar. A partir de una revisión bibliográfica, el artículo se basa en cuatro casos que se recuperan de fuentes secundarias y que ilustran la forma en la que operan estos procesos en distintos niveles, territorios y escalas: el café de autor en cuanto símbolo de distinción en los barrios gentrificados; la palta o aguacate a partir de su manifestación gastronómica en el avocado toast; el vino, desde la turistificación de su producción hasta las estrategias de valorización en su consumo urbano; y la quinoa desde el patentamiento de nuevas variedades hasta el desarrollo de mercados expulsivos de amplios sectores de población. Se concluye que el auge de estos alimentos tiene efectos de acumulación del capital por desposesión en los ámbitos rural y urbano al igual que en los procesos de producción y de consumo.

Purpose: To explore the perception of physical exercise programs for pediatric oncology patients among childhood cancer care professionals. We also aimed at comparing such perceptions between cultures. Healthcare professionals’ endorsement may be essential for initiating and promoting such programs. Methods: An anonymous survey was designed and administered voluntarily to childhood cancer care professionals (including pediatric oncologists, nurses, and physiotherapists) in European, North-African and Arab pediatric oncology centers. Results: Five-hundred-and twenty-eight professionals from 14 sites answered the survey. Most respondents considered physical exercise programs as a suitable therapeutic approach for pediatric cancer patients with a potential positive contribution to survival (81%), wellbeing (82%), quality of life (80%), and self-esteem (75%). 91% of respondents would also support the future introduction of physical exercise programs into standard pediatric oncological care. There was a comparatively higher appreciation of physical exercise programs among European centers compared to North-African / Arab centers. Conclusion: We registered a broad acceptance of physical exercise programs among all European and North-African / Arab childhood cancer care professionals. The positive perception was independent of any pre-existing experience with such programs and seems therefore representative. This finding may encourage the further promotion of physical exercise programs in pediatric oncology.

This may be explained by regional characteristics of infectious ulcers with which local corneal specialists are familiar.

Background and aim: Pediatric high-grade gliomas (pedHGG) comprise a very poor prognosis. Thus, parents of affected children are increasingly resorting to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), among those Boswellia extracts. However, nothing is known about the therapeutic effectiveness of their active substances, Boswellic acids (BA) in pedHGG. Thus, we aimed to investigate if the three main Boswellic acids (BA) present in Boswellia plants, alpha-boswellic acid (α-BA), beta-boswellic acid (β-BA) and 3-acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA) hold any promising potential for treatment of affected pedHGG patients. Experimental procedure: Histone 3 (H3)-wildtype and H3.3K27M-mutant pedHGG cell lines were treated with BA, either alone or in combination with radio-chemotherapy with temozolomide. Cell viability, stemness properties, apoptosis, in ovo tumor growth and the transcriptome was investigated upon BA treatment. Results and conclusion: Interestingly, α-BA and β-BA treatment promoted certain tumor properties in both pedHGG cells. AKBA treatment reduced cell viability and colony growth accompanied by induction of slight anti-inflammatory effects especially in H3.3K27M-mutant pedHGG cells. However, no effects on apoptosis and in ovo tumor growth were found. In conclusion, besides positive anti-tumor effects of AKBA, tumor promoting effects were observed upon treatment with α-BA and β-BA. Thus, only pure AKBA formulations may be used to exploit any potential positive effects in pedHGG patients. In conclusion, the use of commercially available supplements with a mixture of different BA cannot be recommended due to detrimental effects of certain BA whereas pure AKBA formulations might hold some potential as therapeutic supplement for treatment of pedHGG patients.

PurposeTo evaluate refractive outcomes, safety, and cost-effectiveness of femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) compared with phacoemulsification cataract surgery (PCS).MethodsA PubMed search of FLACS was conducted in August 2020. A total of 727 abstracts were reviewed and 33 were selected for full-text review. Twelve articles met inclusion criteria and were included in this assessment. The panel methodologist assigned a level of evidence rating of I to all 12 studies.ResultsNo significant differences were found in mean uncorrected distance visual acuity, best-corrected distance visual acuity, or the percentage of eyes within ± 0.5 and ± 1 diopter of intended refractive target between FLACS and PCS. Intraoperative and postoperative complication rates were similar between the 2 groups, and most studies showed no difference in endothelial cell loss between FLACS and PCS at various time points between 1 and 6 months. In large randomized controlled studies in the United Kingdom and France, FLACS was less cost-effective than PCS.ConclusionsBoth FLACS and PCS have similar excellent safety and refractive outcomes. At this time, one technique is not superior to the other, but economic analyses performed in some populations have shown that FLACS is less cost-effective.

The grey wolf (Canis lupus) was the first species to give rise to a domestic population, and they remained widespread throughout the last Ice Age when many other large mammal species went extinct. Little is known, however, about the history and possible extinction of past wolf populations or when and where the wolf progenitors of the present-day dog lineage (Canis familiaris) lived1-8. Here we analysed 72 ancient wolf genomes spanning the last 100,000 years from Europe, Siberia and North America. We found that wolf populations were highly connected throughout the Late Pleistocene, with levels of differentiation an order of magnitude lower than they are today. This population connectivity allowed us to detect natural selection across the time series, including rapid fixation of mutations in the gene IFT88 40,000-30,000 years ago. We show that dogs are overall more closely related to ancient wolves from eastern Eurasia than to those from western Eurasia, suggesting a domestication process in the east. However, we also found that dogs in the Near East and Africa derive up to half of their ancestry from a distinct population related to modern southwest Eurasian wolves, reflecting either an independent domestication process or admixture from local wolves. None of the analysed ancient wolf genomes is a direct match for either of these dog ancestries, meaning that the exact progenitor populations remain to be located.

The Cochrane Rapid Review Methods Group (RRMG) first released interim guidance in March 2020 to support authors in conducting rapid reviews (RRs). The objective of this mixed-methods study was to assess the adherence and investigate authors' understanding of the RRMG guidance. We identified all documents citing the Interim Cochrane RRMG guidance up to February 17, 2022 and performed an exploratory adherence analysis. We interviewed 20 RR authors to assess the recommendations' comprehensibility and reasons for any deviations. Further, we surveyed nine authors of COVID-19-related Cochrane reviews for their reasons for not conducting a RR. We analyzed 128 RRs (111 non-Cochrane, 17 Cochrane) that cited the RRMG guidance. Several recommendations were not followed by a large proportion of RR authors such as stepwise approach to study design inclusion or peer review of search strategies, whereas others were exceeded, for example, dual independent screening of abstracts/full texts. The most reported reasons for deviating from the guidance were time constraints, unclarities in the recommended approach, or inapplicability to the specific RR. Overall, the guidance was viewed as user-friendly; however, without pre-existing knowledge of systematic review (SR) conduct, the application was perceived as difficult. The main reasons for conducting a full SR over a RR were late availability of the guidance, preset mandate to conduct a SR, uncertainty regarding methodological distinctions between SR and RR, and inapplicability to the evidence base. Clarifications are warranted throughout the Interim Cochrane RRMG guidance to ensure that users with various experience levels can understand and apply its recommendations accordingly.
