Abstract

This paper addresses the fault-tolerant performance of real-time dual-computer embedded systems. The article first emphasizes the importance of real-time and reliability in various fields and points out that improving fault-tolerant performance is a crucial topic. Based on the Markov chain algorithm, the study optimizes the fault-tolerant integration method for real-time dual-computer embedded systems. By constructing a model of Markov algorithm and using the deadline of the task as a benchmark, the passage and transfer probabilities of faults are calculated. The article also provides algorithmic proofs of fault-tolerant control of Markovian jump systems and calculates their stability levels. The results show that the fault passage rate of the system increases as the number of complex tasks increases, e.g., when the number of complex tasks is 4, the passage rate can reach 90%. In addition, in the scheduling test, it was found that the schedulability of the system increases with the increase in the number of processors. When the number of processors reaches 5, the system's schedulability is 43%. In conclusion, the system fault tolerance optimization method based on Markov algorithm proposed in the article can effectively improve the reliability and fault tolerance of the system.

Abstract

To improve the complexity and low catalytic performance and reduce the high cost of the traditional electrode preparation process for the sodium borohydride electro-oxidation reaction (BOR), in this work, a self-supported and efficient electrode material grown on nickel foam (CoNi/Co3O4/NF) was successfully designed using a simple hydrothermal synthesis method accompanied by the electrodeposition process. Benefiting from the three-dimensional nanoarray structure of CoNi/Co3O4/NF and the uniform distribution of Co and Ni modulating active sites by electrodeposition, the catalytic activity towards NaBH4 exhibits high efficiency. CoNi/Co3O4 exhibits excellent catalytic performance (up to 2157 mA cm−2 in 2 mol L−1 NaOH and 0.3 mol L−1 NaBH4), a high electrochemically active surface area (62.5 cm−2), and a low activation energy (15.56 kJ mol−1). The CoNi/Co3O4/NF electrode was further investigated on a direct sodium borohydride–hydrogen peroxide fuel cell (DBHPFC), which exhibited a maximum power density of 108.5 mW cm−2 and excellent stability. The excellent performance is mainly due to its unique nanoarray structure and electrodeposition distribution of Co and Ni active sites, which increases the electrochemical surface area and enhances the contact between the electrode and the electrolyte. 21. Dynamic DNA N6-adenine methylation (6mA) governs the encystment process, showcased in the unicellular eukaryote Pseudocohnilembus persalinus

Abstract

The formation of resting cysts commonly found in unicellular eukaryotes is a complex and highly regulated survival strategy against environmental stress that involves drastic physiological and biochemical changes. Although most studies have focused on the morphology and structure of cysts, little is known about the molecular mechanisms that control this process. Recent studies indicate that DNA N6-adenine methylation (6mA) could be dynamically changing in response to external stimuli; however, its potential role in the regulation of cyst formation remains unknown. We used the ciliate Pseudocohnilembus persalinus, which can be easily induced to form cysts to investigate the dynamic pattern of 6mA in trophonts and cysts. Single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing reveals high levels of 6mA in trophonts that decrease in cysts, along with a conversion of symmetric 6mA to asymmetric 6mA. Further analysis shows that 6mA, a mark of active transcription, is involved in altering the expression of encystment-related genes through changes in 6mA levels and 6mA symmetric-to-asymmetric conversion. Most importantly, we show that reducing 6mA levels by knocking down the DNA 6mA methyltransferase PpAMT1 accelerates cyst formation. Taken together, we characterize the genome-wide 6mA landscape in P. persalinusand provide insights into the role of 6mA in gene regulation under environmental stress in eukaryotes. We propose that 6mA acts as a mark of active transcription to regulate the encystment process along with symmetric-to-asymmetric conversion, providing important information for understanding the molecular response to environmental cues from the perspective of 6mA modification.

Abstract

Ciliates have a long history of being central in evolutionary and ecological studies on eukaryotic microorganisms. Although thousands of species have been discovered, their total diversity still remains unknown. Here, we will discuss two unsolved problems that hinder the further exploration of ciliate diversity at the species level, and potential solutions to these problems are proposed. First, ciliate morphospecies are difficult to identify because the different silver stains are not scalable (they do not represent high-throughput methods) and basic supplies are lacking (e.g., protargol); a solution may be the development of fluorescent staining techniques. Second, ciliate phylogenetic species are difficult to identify because of extensive paralogy in nuclear-protein-coding genes; a solution may be to concentrate on sequencing mitochondrial genomes. These two approaches could be integrated into a high-throughput fluorescent-single-cell sorting and mitochondrial genomes sequencing process that would enable the observation and better understanding of ciliate species on a massive scale.

27. On four epibiotic peritrichous ciliates (Protozoa, Ciliophora) found in Lake Weishan Wetland: morphological and molecular data support the establishment of a new genus, Parapiosomagen. nov., and two new species

Abstract

During a study on the diversity of ciliated protists in Lake Weishan Wetland, the largest wetland in northern China, four epibiotic sessilid peritrichs were isolated from aquatic host animals. Two of them, i.e., Epistylis cambariKellicott, 1885 and Epistylis lwoffiFauré-Fremiet, 1943, were known species whereas the other two, i.e., Parapiosoma typicumgen. nov., sp. nov. and Orborhabdostyla gracilissp. nov., are new to science. The new genus Parapiosomagen. nov. is characterized by its branched non-contractile stalk, everted peristomial lip, obconical macronucleus and transverse silverlines. Two species are assigned to the new genus, namely Parapiosoma typicumsp. nov. and Parapiosoma gasterostei(Fauré-Fremiet, 1905) comb. nov. Morphologically, P. typicumsp. nov. is recognized by its goblet-shaped zooids, single-layered peristomial lip, dichotomously branched stalk, and infundibular polykinety 3 (P3) containing three equal-length rows. Orborhabdostyla gracilissp. nov. is characterized by its slender zooid, curved macronucleus, and three equal-length rows in infundibular P3. Improved diagnoses and redescriptions of E. cambariand E. lwoffiare provided including, for the first time, data on the ciliature of E. cambari. Phylogenetic analyses based on SSU rDNA, ITS1-5.8S rDNA -ITS2, and LSU rDNA sequence data strongly support the assertion that the family Epistylididae comprises morphospecies with different evolutionary lineages and indicate that Parapiosomagen. nov. may represent a new taxon at family level.

Abstract

The ciliate genus Pleuronemacomprises approximately 30 nominal species and has been reported in freshwater, brackish water, and marine habitats. Nevertheless, recent studies have indicated that there might be a large undiscovered species diversity. In the present work, four new Pleuronemaspecies, namely P. foissnerisp. nov., P. parasmallisp. nov., P. parasalmastrasp. nov., and P. paraorientalesp. nov., collected from Shenzhen, southern China, was investigated using taxonomic methods. The diagnosis, description, comparisons with morphologically related species and detailed morphometric data are supplied for each. The small subunit ribosomal RNA (SSU rRNA) gene of the four new species is sequenced and their molecular phylogeny is analyzed. The SSU rRNA gene tree shows that Pleuronemais polyphyletic comprising several separate clades. All four new species cluster consistently with P. orientaleKF206429, P. puytoraciKF840520 and P. setigerumFJ848874 within the core Pleuronematidae + Peniculistomatidae clade. Phylogenies of Pleuronematidae-related taxa are also discussed.

Abstract

Ampullofolliculina Hadži, 1951 is a monotypic genus, the only species being A. lageniformis which was first discovered in estuarine habitats in the U.S. and has never been redescribed. In the present study, we investigated the taxonomy and phylogeny of A. lageniformis Hadži, 1951 based on analyses of a population collected from a brackish wetland in Ningbo, China. The main characteristics of this species are as follows: trophont about 450–700 μm long in vivo with two short, rounded peristomial lobes of equal size; lorica flask‐shaped, transparent and smooth with a short, wide neck at the base of which two transparent valves are asymmetrically inserted; cortex with brownish to reddish cortical granules and greenish pigment granules; about 80 somatic kineties evenly arranged; moniliform macronucleus with 4–8 ellipsoidal nodules; swarmer dark green, vermiform in shape, about 200–350 μm long in vivo, with about 60 adoral membranelles and 85 somatic kineties, no mouth nor paroral membrane. Phylogenetic analyses inferred from SSU rDNA sequences show that A. lageniformis is closely related to Folliculina and Eufolliculina which nest within a large clade that comprises five families, i.e. Stentoridae, Blepharismidae, Fabreidae, Maristentoridae, and Folliculinidae. Abstract

Two new polyoxometalate-based coordination polymers have been synthesized at different pHs under identical hydrothermal conditions, (Hbib)[Cu2(bib)2(PMo12O40)] (1) and (Hbib)2[Cu(bib) (PMo12O40)]·2H2O (2) (bib = 4-bis(imidazol-1-yl) benzene). Their structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and characterized by routine methods. When the pH was adjusted to 2.0 − 2.5, 1 was obtained, which exhibits a 1-D rail-like chain. Compound 2 was obtained at pH of 2.5 − 3.2 and exhibits a 2-D layer with (44) sql net. The pH of the reaction plays a key role in the assembly of the polyoxometalate-based coordination polymer. The electrochemical experiments indicate that 2-based carbon paste electrode possesses high catalytic efficiency and high stability towards reduction of iodate and oxidation of ascorbic acid.
