Ce3+‐activated silica nitride phosphors (lanthanum silicate‐nitride [LSN]) are promising thermostable conversion components for white‐light‐emitting diodes, screen technologies, and other optoelectronic applications. Cr3+‐activated TiO2, on the other hand, is a strongly absorbing material depending on its size and optical microenvironment. In this work, we gathered Cr3+‐doped TiO2 and La3Si6N11:Ce3+ in an optically transparent polymethylmethacrylate matrix. Photoluminescence of the binary blends of La3Si6N11:Ce3+/TiO2 and La3Si6N11:Ce3+/TiO2:Cr3+ has been investigated under two different excitation energies by steady‐state and lifetime‐based measurements, respectively. When the microscale La3Si6N11:Ce3+ phosphor and nanoscale TiO2:Cr3+ particles were gathered at a critical concentration, the resulting composite exhibited 3.14‐fold enhancement in the emission signal intensity with respect to the additive‐free phosphor. Upon excitation, the La3Si6N11:Ce3+–TiO2:Cr3+ blend exhibited different excited‐state lifetimes for the nano‐ and microsecond time‐scales compared to the LSN. The microsecond time‐scale measurements performed under 378 nm excitation supported the existence of a potential energy transfer from the TiO2:Cr3+ to the La3Si6N11:Ce3+. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Distance Education is the natural evolution of a human-centered branch of education. Recently. the rapid development of social networks has decisively contributed to the configuration of a new environment in the field of distance education (Jones, 2020) which also has an impact on adult education. The research objective is the attitude of teachers towards the use of social networks in the context of their training. At the same time, the pedagogical utilization of Social Networking in the context of Teacher training was investigated. The Laboratory for Advanced Learning Technologies in Lifelong and Distance Learning [e-Learning Labl of the Department of Education of the University of Crete created a new social network which is called Learning Social Network (LSN). The sample of the research consisted of 45 trained teachers who participated in a distance learning program. Participants were asked to comment on their recent experience with LSN with respect to communication. collaboration, usability. interaction and learning. All the data are reliable as Cronbach's Alpha is 0.961. Findings indicate that that social networks can be used pedagogically in various levels: communication, collaboration. interaction. as well as participatory learning and LSN can give the ability to enables users to create a personalized teaching, learning and social networking environment. O presente artigo tem o propósito de analisar documentos de natureza repressiva oriundos do Departamento de Ordem Política e Social do Estado de São Paulo, DEOPS, órgão policial pertencente ao DOPS, fundado em 1924 no Brasil para fins de controle e vigilância de atividades, movimentos e indivíduos considerados suspeitos pelo Estado. A partir do Golpe de 1964, o órgão expandiu o seu campo de ação e adquiriu o comando da repressão aos indivíduos considerados "perigosos" à Segurança Nacional, doutrina formulada e colocada em prática pelos cinco governos militares que institucionalizaram o arbítrio e o terror. Entre os perseguidos, destacamos a trajetória política do ex-guerrilheiro e historiador, Daniel Arão Reis Filho, principalmente pela importância para compreendermos a passagem de muitos jovens que migraram da militância estudantil para a militância armada. Em conjunto com os documentos do DEOPS, analisamos os Processos da Justiça Militar relativos ao historiador, arquivados pelo Projeto Brasil Nunca Mais, pois, oferecem informações preciosas sobre o modo como operou a suspeição e condenação de homens e mulheres que lutaram contra o regime. Trechos de entrevistas do historiador também serão referenciados para compor o rastro de quem viveu e viu por dentro o emprego da tortura, principal engrenagem dos interrogatórios.

We have succeeded in developing LSN phosphors with wide color variations, less thermal quenching and any other luminescence properties. Summary: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have received a lot of attention from both academia and industry due to the increasing need for ubiquitous computing for monitoring applications, the continuous advances in miniaturization of electronic devices, and the ultra‐low‐power wireless technologies. These innovations in technology have driven the curiosity to use sensor networks in a new kind of applications such as road track or railway monitoring, border monitoring, oil and gas, or even water pipeline monitoring. Due to the underlying linear topology of these applications, a new type of network, called a linear sensor network (LSN), has emerged. Because of the specific characteristics of this application and the resource constraints of sensors, some of the major challenges faced in LSNs are to reduce end‐to‐end delays, to maximize the packet delivery ratio to a sink, and an even distribution of the load between nodes. To achieve these objectives, it is necessary to control node‐to‐node packet traffic conditions and to manage radio interference created by simultaneously active nodes. This paper addresses these challenges and proposes a new method of clustering LSNs that reduces or controls radio interference risks in order to satisfy these objectives, application needs, and the resource limitations of sensor nodes in the best possible way. This method is applied for LSNs using a token‐passing mechanism to access the medium. The performance evaluation is conducted by using a realistic propagation model in the analytical evaluation and also a NS‐2 simulation process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Résumé: L'évaluation et la prise en charge des maladies du foie sont essentielles pour améliorer la survie des patients d'hématologie, notamment après greffe de cellules hématopoïétiques allogéniques. Donner un avis de consultant hépato-gastroentérologue est, en général, compliqué lorsque le patient a un cancer en cours de traitement, et qu'il développe un ictère, une prise de poids, une ascite, de la fièvre, des douleurs de l'hypochondre droit, et des tests hépatiques anormaux. Les avancées dans le domaine de la biologie moléculaire diagnostique et de l'imagerie ont rendu les démarches diagnostiques plus simples, et la biopsie hépatique n'est maintenant indiquée que dans de rares situations. Les algorithmes diagnostiques et thérapeutiques sont plus clairs pour orienter le clinicien et débuter rapidement un traitement. L'hématologie est une spécialité en pleine expansion et de nombreux médicaments arrivent sur le marché sans que leur sécurité hépatique soit parfaitement cernée. L'objectif de cette revue est de fournir au lecteur les clés pour être un praticien averti dans le domaine des maladies du foie des patients d'hématologie. The evaluation and management of liver diseases is essential to improve the survival of hematology patients, especially after transplantation of allogeneic hematopoietic cells. The consulting hepatologist may never see a more complex patient than a patient with cancer who develops jaundice, fluid retention, fever, liver pain, and abnormal serum liver tests – and in contrast to the situation where patients have a single diagnosis, there may be multiple causes of liver dysfunction in such a patient. However, medical progress in liver imaging and molecular methods of viral diagnosis have made evaluations more straight-forward, such that liver biopsy can be confined to the most puzzling cases. Diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms are clearer in guiding the clinician and starting treatment quickly, but one long-term goal should be to prevent liver injury in the first place. Hematology is a growing specialty and many drugs are coming to the market without their liver safety being fully understood. The objective of the study presented herein is to develop an understanding of the predictive trends of four different liquefaction severity index frameworks, with emphasis on the utility of the frameworks for assessing liquefaction vulnerability in Christchurch, New Zealand. Liquefaction induced land damage was widespread following the four major earthquakes in Christchurch ( M w 5.9–7.1) between 4 September 2010 and 23 December 2011. As part of the rebuilding effort, a major focus, to date, has been on assessing/developing approaches for evaluating vulnerability to liquefaction induced damage in future events. The four liquefaction severity index frameworks that are evaluated herein are: the one-dimensional volumetric reconsolidation settlement ( S V1D ), the Liquefaction Potential Index (LPI), and two new liquefaction severity indices developed following the major earthquakes in Christchurch, namely the Ishihara inspired LPI (LPI ISH ) and the Liquefaction Severity Number (LSN). To assess the predictive trends of the four severity index frameworks, the H 1 – H 2 boundary curves developed by Ishihara (1985) are used as a reference of comparison. In large part, the severity index frameworks serve the same purpose as the Ishihara boundary curves, but they alleviate some of the difficulties in implementing the Ishihara boundary curves for assessing the highly stratified soil profiles that underlie much of Christchurch. A parametric study was performed wherein relatively simple soil profiles are evaluated using all the procedures and contour plots of calculated S V1D , LPI, LPI ISH , and LSN values were superimposed onto the Ishihara boundary curves. The results indicate that the LPI ISH and LSN indices yield similar trends as the Ishihara boundary curves, whereas the S V1D and LPI indices do not. Furthermore, little field data is available to assess the severity indices for the scenarios where the trends in the LPI ISH and LSN indices differ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An earthquake of moment magnitude 5.4 occurred on November 15, 2017 in Pohang, South Korea. This earthquake is the second largest instrumented earthquake ever recorded in South Korea and caused extensive damage to the ground and infrastructures. Hundreds of liquefaction-induced sand boils were observed in the rice fields near the epicenter. We calculate the liquefaction potential index (LPI) and liquefaction severity number (LSN) using the existing borehole data from the area, which includes 166 soil borings, to predict local and regional sand boils. Three of the soil borings considered in the dataset are within 47 m from the sand boils, and one is within 174 m from the sand boil. We provide detailed soil profiles at 20 sites (four of which are considered to be at liquefied sites) and soil properties at three sites (two of which are at liquefied sites). The calculated LPI and LSN values are in good agreement with the actual sand boil locations at 19 out of the 20 sites. Then, we use the existing borehole data to produce a regional liquefaction map using interpolation methods. As is common in regional seismic hazard maps, geotechnical and ground motion data are limited; therefore, we assess the uncertainty of important input parameters, such as the peak ground acceleration, water table, and N-value. For the regional maps, the maximum accuracy of the LPI is 69% at an LPI threshold of 2, and that of the LSN is 71% at an LSN threshold of 10. We report some ground settlements in the areas with high LPI and LSN values. Furthermore, we propose models for predicting the sizes and occurrence probabilities of sand boils. • LPI and LSN are calculated based on SPT and validated by sand boil observations. • Regional liquefaction hazard maps are newly developed for Pohang, South Korea. • Liquefaction triggering and non-triggering case histories are provided. • High LPI and LSN areas experienced settlements, possibly due to liquefaction. Anterolateral system neurons relay pain, itch, and temperature information from the spinal cord to pain-related brain regions, but the differentiation of these neurons and their specific contribution to pain perception remain poorly defined. Here, we show that most mouse spinal neurons that embryonically express the autonomic-system-associated Paired-like homeobox 2A (Phox2a) transcription factor innervate nociceptive brain targets, including the parabrachial nucleus and the thalamus. We define the Phox2a anterolateral system neuron birth order, migration, and differentiation and uncover an essential role for Phox2a in the development of relay of nociceptive signals from the spinal cord to the brain. Finally, we also demonstrate that the molecular identity of Phox2a neurons is conserved in the human fetal spinal cord, arguing that the developmental expression of Phox2a is a prominent feature of anterolateral system neurons. • Phox2a is transiently expressed in embryonic anterolateral system (AS) spinal neurons • Phox2a AS neuron development reflects AS neuron diversity • Spinal Phox2a knockout causes aberrant AS connectivity and nociceptive defects • Human and mouse embryonic spinal Phox2a neurons are similar Roome et al. generate a Phox2aCre mouse that labels anterolateral system neurons during development, revealing their developmental dynamics as well as their molecular conservation in humans. Prolyl carboxypeptidase (PRCP), a serine protease, is widely expressed in the body including liver, lung, kidney and brain, with a variety of known substrates such as plasma prekallikrein, bradykinin, angiotensins II and III, and α-MSH, suggesting its role in the processing of tissue-specific substrates. In the brain, PRCP has been shown to inactivate hypothalamic α-MSH, thus modulating melanocortin signaling in the control of energy metabolism. While its expression pattern has been reported in the hypothalamus, little is known on the distribution of PRCP throughout the mouse brain. This study was undertaken to determine PRCP expression in the mouse brain. Radioactive in situ hybridization was performed to determine endogenous PRCP mRNA expression. In addition, using a gene-trap mouse model for PRCP deletion, X-gal staining was performed to further determine PRCP distribution.
