1. One flavour adjoint QCD with overlap fermions

Abstract

The infrared effective theory of adjoint QCD with one Dirac flavour is still under debate. The theory could be confining, conformal, or with a massless fermion in the infrared. The study of chiral symmetry seems to be important to answer this question. While previous investigations have considered Wilson fermions, we present here the first results for this theory based on overlap fermions to avoid explicit chiral symmetry breaking. These indicate spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking by the formation of a fermion condensate. We have also investigated the running coupling of the theory, which indicates no infrared conformality in the energy region we have explored., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, submitted to proceedings of the 39th International Symposium on Lattice Field Theory (LATTICE2022)

4. H2+ ion in strong magnetic field: a variational study

Abstract

Using a single trial function we perform an accurate calculation of the ground state $1\sigma_g$ of the hydrogenic molecular ion $H^+_2$ in a constant uniform magnetic field ranging $0-10^{13}$ G. We show that this trial function also makes it possible to study the negative parity ground state $1\sigma_u$. We obtain that over the whole range of magnetic fields studied, the calculated binding energies are in most cases larger than binding energies obtained previously by other authors using different methods., Comment: RevTeX, 15 pages including 7 postscript figures (uuencoded) Title changed, several clarifying sentences added, Typos corrected. Abstract

Green and scalable materials are essential to fulfill the need of electrification for transitioning into a fossil-fuels free society, and sustainability is a requirement for all new technologies. Rechargeable batteries are one of the most important elements for electrification, enabling the transition to mobile electronics, electrical vehicles and grid storage. We here report synthesis and characterization of polyelectrolyte complexes of alginate and chitosan, both biopolymers deriving from the sea, for transport of zinc ions in hydrogel electrolytes. We have used vibrational spectroscopy, thermal measurements and microscopy, as well as transport measurements with ohmic or blocking contacts. The transference number for zinc ions is close to 1, the conductivity is ≈10 mS/cm, with stability at Zn interfaces seen through 7000 cycles in symmetric zinc//zinc cell.
