Abstract

The growing amount of data and advances in data science have created a need for a new kind of cloud platform that provides users with flexibility, strong security, and the ability to couple with supercomputers and edge devices through high-performance networks. We have built such a nation-wide cloud platform, called "mdx" to meet this need. The mdx platform's virtualization service, jointly operated by 9 national universities and 2 national research institutes in Japan, launched in 2021, and more features are in development. Currently mdx is used by researchers in a wide variety of domains, including materials informatics, geo-spatial information science, life science, astronomical science, economics, social science, and computer science. This paper provides an the overview of the mdx platform, details the motivation for its development, reports its current status, and outlines its future plans.

Abstract

Perturbative GAN, which replaces convolution layers of existing convolutional GANs (DCGAN, WGAN-GP, BIGGAN, etc.) with perturbation layers that adds a fixed noise mask, is proposed. Compared with the convolu-tional GANs, the number of parameters to be trained is smaller, the convergence of training is faster, the incep-tion score of generated images is higher, and the overall training cost is reduced. Algorithmic generation of the noise masks is also proposed, with which the training, as well as the generation, can be boosted with hardware acceleration. Perturbative GAN is evaluated using con-ventional datasets (CIFAR10, LSUN, ImageNet), both in the cases when a perturbation layer is adopted only for Generators and when it is introduced to both Generator and Discriminator.

Abstract

International audience; Evaluating the performance of Grid applications running on high performance platforms interconnected by high speed and long distance net- works with new transport services and protocols is highly required. This paper presents the eWAN inte- grated environment enabling large scale grid emula- tion at gigabit speed. It discusses features provided to control key characteristics (topology, round trip time, packet size, drop rate, link capacity) of an evaluation scenario. A method to increase the accuracy of rate control under various delay configuration is proposed and some experimental results are detailled.

Abstract

We consider the problem of huge data transfers and bandwidth sharing in contexts where transfer delay bounds are required. This report investigates large flow interactions in a real very high-speed network and aims at contributing to high-speed TCP variants evaluation by providing precise measurements. It then also gives an insight on the behaviour of emulated alternative protocols under different realistic congestion and long latency conditions in 10~Gbps experimental environments.

Abstract

This paper examines the interactions between layer 2 (Ethernet) switches andTCP in high bandwidth delay product networks. First, the behavior of a rangeof Ethernet switches when two long lived connections compete for the sameoutput port is investigated. Then, the report explores the impact of these behaviorson TCP protocol in long and fast networks (LFNs). Several conditions inwhich scheduling mechanisms introduce heavy unfair bandwidth sharing andloss burst which impact TCP performance are shown.; Ce rapport présente les interactions entre les switchs de couche 2 (Ether-net) et TCP dans les réseaux à haut produit débit-délai. Tout d’abord, nous investiguons le comportement de plusieurs switches Ethernet lorsque deux connexions se partagent un même port de sortie. Nous explorons ensuite l’influence de ces comportements sur le protocole TCP. Enfin nous exhibons plusieurs situations dans lesquelles le mécanisme d’ordonnancement introduit un partage inéquitable de la bande passante et des pertes en rafales pénalisant les performances de TCP.

Abstract

Most of the work on grid technology in the video area has been generally restricted to aspects of resource scheduling and replica management. The traffic of such a service has a lot of characteristics in common with that of the traditional video service. However the architecture and user behavior in grid networks are quite different from those of the traditional Internet. Considering the potential of grid networks and video sharing services, measuring and analyzing P2P IPTV traffic are important and fundamental works in the field of grid networks. This paper investigates the features of PPLive, the most popular streaming service in China and based on P2P technology. Through monitoring and analyzing PPLive traffic streams, the characteristics of P2P streaming services have been studied. The analyses are carried out in respect of bearing protocols, geographical distribution and the self-similarity properties of the traffic. A streaming service traffic model has been created and verified with the simulation. The simulation results indicate that the proposed streaming service traffic model complies well with the real IPTV streaming service. It can also function as a step towards studying video-sharing services on grids.
