Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had an unprecedented impact on global mental health and well-being, including across the Asia-Pacific. Efforts to mitigate virus spread led to far-reaching disruption in the delivery of health and social services. In response, there was a rapid shift to the use of digital mental health (DMH) approaches. Though these technologies helped to improve access to care for many, there was also substantial risk of access barriers leading to increased inequities in access to mental health care, particularly among at-risk and equity-deserving populations. The objective of this study was to conduct a needs assessment and identify priorities related to equitable DMH access among at-risk and equity-deserving populations in the Asia Pacific region during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study consisted of a modified Delphi consensus methodology including two rounds of online surveys and online consultations with stakeholders from across the region. Study participants included policy makers, clinicians and service providers, and people with lived experience of mental health conditions. Results demonstrate that vulnerabilities to negative mental health impacts and access barriers were compounded during the pandemic. Access barriers included a lack of linguistically and culturally appropriate DMH options, low mental health literacy and poor access to technological infrastructure and devices, low levels of awareness and trust of DMH options, and lack of policies and guidelines to support effective and equitable delivery of DMH. Recommendations to improve equitable access include ensuring that diverse people with lived experience are engaged in research, co-design and policy development, the development and implementation of evidence-based and equity-informed guidelines and frameworks, clear communication about DMH evidence and availability, and the integration of DMH into broader health systems. Abstract

Through technological development, ships are being automated, reducing the number of human operators. Accordingly, the responsibility of humans becomes more significant, making a single operator's proficiency count. Simulated ship-handling training evaluates trainees' proficiency using specific criteria to verify proficiency. However, the present criteria are confined to training scenarios, and it is hard to determine whether trainees finally achieved expert-like ability. This research conducted probabilistic estimation on experts' average steering angles. The paper contains the corresponding explanations for each step of the research methods, from the data preprocessing step to the probabilistic steering angle estimation. Abstract

PubMed: 31209238, The effectiveness of most cancer targeted therapies is short-lived. Tumors often develop resistance that might be overcome with drug combinations. However, the number of possible combinations is vast, necessitating data-driven approaches to find optimal patient-specific treatments. Here we report AstraZeneca’s large drug combination dataset, consisting of 11,576 experiments from 910 combinations across 85 molecularly characterized cancer cell lines, and results of a DREAM Challenge to evaluate computational strategies for predicting synergistic drug pairs and biomarkers. 160 teams participated to provide a comprehensive methodological development and benchmarking. Winning methods incorporate prior knowledge of drug-target interactions. Synergy is predicted with an accuracy matching biological replicates for >60% of combinations. However, 20% of drug combinations are poorly predicted by all methods. 45. Origin of enhanced reversible Na ion storage in hard carbon anodes through p-type molecular doping

Abstract

Na-ion batteries (SIBs) require novel anode materials which have high ion storage capability and low working voltage to make SIBs competitive compared to Li-ion batteries (LIBs). From this perspective, we present the origin of improved electrochemical performances of phosphate doped hard carbon (P-HC) which can meet the two requirements mentioned above through combining experiment with the calculations of atomic/electronic structures. We disclosed that the capacity enhancement is accompanied by the changed voltage profile, which results from the introduced phosphate functional groups. The emerged redox peak turned out to be generated by the electrochemical reaction of Na ions near the phosphate-carbon environment. First-principles calculations elaborated that the phosphate introduction here generates electron holes near the Fermi level that is generally considered as evidence of p-type semiconductors to improve electronic conductivity. This expectation has been proven by comparatively measuring the electrical conductivities of pristine hard carbon and P-HC. A close investigation into charge distribution indicated that the electron hole is generated mainly by the higher reducibility of the doped phosphate than the surrounding carbon atoms in P-HC. This discovery well explains the underlying principles for the enhanced electrochemical performance of P-HC, thereby showing a way to design highly functional hard carbon structures toward higher capacity with Na ions.

Abstract

Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research supports the proposition that the addition of audio displays can reduce subjective workload. With the growing use of touchscreen displays and the increasing of complexity interface, the addition of audio display is expected to reduce users’ workload. This study intended to develop an additional audio system which can be handily manipulated by users who need. A dedicated graphic audio switch was adapted at the corner of screen. Users may initiate audio output by dragging the audio switch to the icon where he/she would like to listen to the audio instructions. Farther detail instructions will be prompted if the user ‘long press’ the transparently overlapped audio switch. To test the feasibility of the additional audio system, an experiment was carried out by testing 15 respondents including different visual status groups. The result indicates that there are 13 respondents consider the auditory interface is an effective auxiliary and confirm its feasibility.
