Abstract Lake is an important water resources in Mongolia, which has undergone a large variation in past decades. However, it is still challenging to monitor long-term changes in lake water storage (LWS) due to the lack of lake level monitoring and long-term satellite altimetry data for Mongolian lakes. According to the Advanced Land Observing Satellite Digital Elevation Model (ALOS DEM) and the Joint Research Centre (JRC) dataset, we estimated the LWS changes of 55 Mongolian lakes (> 10 km2) from 1991 to 2020. The results showed that the LWS increased by 40.24 km3 from 1991 to 1997, especially for northwestern Mongolia with 31.47 km3. However, the LWS decreased by 32.44 km3 from 1998 to 2010, and the lakes in the northwestern and southern decreased by 20.24 km3 (62%) and 7.38 km3 (23%), respectively, and then the LWS continued to decrease by 10.22 km3 from 2011 to 2020. The precipitation was the primary cause of lake change, which could explain 45.13% of LWS change based on Generalized Linear Model, followed by temperature (26.33%) and irrigated area (16.72%). Analyzing the changing characteristic and driving mechanisms of LWS can provide a scientific basis for local water resources management and planning.

Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) pose significant ecological and food safety hazards in China and the world. Consequently, there is a global consensus to intensify safety monitoring of these toxins to safeguard consumers. In recent years, the occurrence of harmful algal blooms (known as "red tides") has increased due to human activities and climate change. The contamination risk posed by PSTs is a pressing concern. This problem poses significant ecological and food safety risks in China and the world, leading to a global consensus on strengthening the safety monitoring of PSTs to ensure consumer safety. Several countries and regions, including the European Union, the United States, and Canada, have established strict regulatory limits (800 μg STXeq/kg) for PSTs and implemented monitoring programs. Currently, the main methods for detecting and monitoring PSTs include enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, mouse bioassay, high-performance liquid chromatography, and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Among them, LC-MS/MS has gained international attention due to its high throughput and sensitivity, allowing detailed analysis of toxin profiles in contaminated shellfish. However, the complexity of aquatic food matrices often introduces interference during detection, affecting the accuracy and precision of the results. Using matrix reference materials as quality controls during the analysis can effectively mitigate the errors caused by matrix effects. In recent years, research has been conducted in China on the preparation techniques of matrix reference materials. However, existing techniques have limitations, such as unstable raw materials, limited toxin types, and lack of commercial production. There is still a lack of PST standard materials in China that possess traceability, certification, and physical specimens. To meet the quality control and validation needs for PST detection and analysis, and to enhance the regulation of shellfish quality and safety, the preparation of various PST matrix reference materials has become a top priority.In this study, six PST-producing algae species from four major Chinese coastal areas were compared as the raw material for toxin production: Alexandrium catenella (GY-H25), Gymnodinium catenatum (GY-H65), Alexandrium tamarense (GY-H31 and AT5-3), Alexandrium pacificum (TI0989), and Alexandrium minutum (GY-H46). Through three-step extended culture, all strains achieved mean cell densities ranging from 4.0 × 106 to 4.0 × 107 cells/L. Single cell toxin producing capacity was ordered from highest to lowest as GY-H46, GY-H31, AT5-3, GY-H25, GY-H65, and TI0989. After comparing the toxin production per cell, algal cell density, and toxin composition of the six strains, GY-H46, GY-H31, GY-H25, and GY-H65 were selected for the exposure experiments. These four species of toxic algae (up to 1.0 × 105 cells) were fed to mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) for 7 days under controlled conditions. The results demonstrated that the toxin composition of contaminated mussels clustered with those of the causative algae and may separate from one another significantly during the different accumulation phases. GY-H46, GY-H31, and GY-H25 showed consistent toxin profiles with those found in mussels, but varied in the proportions of individual toxin components. GY-H65 exhibited significant differences in toxin composition and proportions in mussels. We also detected a new conversion component (dcSTX) with a maximum proportion of 29.6%. The proportion of dcNEO increased from 1.9% to 13.2% in GY-H65 and mussels. In addition, a high proportion of conversion from C2 to C1 was observed in mussels fed GY-H25 and GY-H65. The mean accumulation rates of toxins from the four toxic algae species in mussels ranged from 39.7% to 83.1%, with the highest toxicity reaching (1, 151.0 ± 7.6) μg STXeq/kg in mussels. Individual exposure experiments with the four toxic algae species demonstrated that mussels are capable of accumulating multiple components and high levels of PSTs. Based on the above observations, the feeding ratios of the low- and high-density groups in the mixed exposure experiment were determined as 1∶1∶1 ∶4 and 1∶1.6∶2.4∶8 for GY-H25, GY-H65, GY-H31, and GY-H46, respectively. The total algae feeding amount per mussel per day was 3.5 × 104 cells in the low-density group and 2.6 × 105 cells in the high-density group. When examining the PST content in mussels from the two mixed exposure groups, it was observed that the mean accumulation conversion rates were comparable at 41.4% and 44.6%, which were lower than the theoretical rates of 48.7% and 47.5%, respectively. The overall toxicity of the low- and high-density groups was (535.0±5.6) and (2, 636.0±12.4) μg STXeq/kg, respectively. After mixed exposure, both experimental groups of mussels accumulated a total of 12 PST components (NEO, dcSTX, dcNEO, GTX1, GTX4, GTX2, GTX3, GTX5, dcGTX2, dcGTX3, C1, and C2).This study demonstrates that mixed exposure of mussels to four toxin-producing algae species, namely A. catenella, A. tamarense, G. catenatum, and A. minutum, can result in the stable and manageable presence of 12 PST components. This provides technical support for the preparation of matrix reference materials that can be used in industrial regulation and industry services. The development of a preparation technology for matrix reference materials with multiple PST components, which do not exceed international limits, holds promise for water quality monitoring and the assessment of marine pollution risks, and provides reference materials for theoretical studies on PSTs risk formation mechanisms.

Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are a class of neurotoxic marine biotoxins that are widely distributed and cause more than 2, 000 poisoning events worldwide each year, with mortality rates of up to 15%. PSTs can accumulate through the food chain and are mainly distributed in marine organisms such as bivalve mollusks. Several countries and regions, including the European Union, China, and the United States, have established strict regulatory limits (400 MU/100 g or 800 μg STXeq/kg) for PSTs and implemented monitoring programs. As reported previously, factors such as filtration rate, selective feeding, and the efficiency of the organism in absorbing toxin-producing algae can significantly affect the accumulation of PSTs in bivalve mollusks. Mytilus unguiculatus is one of three major commercial mussel species in China, with important economic value and social impact. Due to its high nutritional value, it is extensively cultured as an important shellfish species in the Zhoushan archipelago of Zhejiang Province in China. Alexandrium spp. are the main toxin-producing algae in the area. PSTs have been detected in mussels between May and July after harmful algal blooms. Research into the elimination characteristics of PSTs accumulation in M. unguiculatus is urgently needed to establish a monitoring and control program.In this study, 760 mussels were randomly selected and fed A. catenella at different cell densities, with a high-density group (7.00×105 cells/d), a low-density group (2.80×105 cells/d), and a control group. The experimental period lasted for 30 d, during which the accumulation period approximately represented days 1–7 and the elimination period days 8–30 d. A total of 14 sampling points were set up on days 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7 of the accumulation period and days 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 15, 19, and 23 of the elimination period. Six mussels were randomly collected at each sampling point and dissected into soft tissues, hepatopancreas, and edible tissues. Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was used to determine the content of PSTs. During the accumulation period, 5 mL culturing seawater was collected during or 1 h after feeding, and Ruge's solution was added. The filtration rate of the mussels was determined by counting the quantity of A. catenella cells in the water. The results showed that the toxins in M. unguiculatus were not equally distributed. The highest PST content in hepatopancreas tissues was 7, 458.2 μg STXeq/kg (high-density group) and 2, 555.9 μg STXeq/kg (low-density group). The highest PST content in edible tissues was 108.6 μg STXeq/kg (high-density group). The hepatopancreas was identified as a target organ for toxin accumulation. From day 3 to day 7, the filtration rate of mussels decreased, eventually reaching 30% of its initial value. The filtration rate of M. unguiculatus in the high-density group was not significantly different from that of the low-density group during days 1–5 and was significantly lower during days 5–7. During the elimination phase, the PST elimination rate in mussels was 18.4% (hepatopancreas), 18.1% (soft tissues), and 13.1% (edible tissues). At day 30, the residual content of PSTs in the hepatopancreas of mussels was approximately 1 400 μg STXeq/kg in the high-density group and 600.0 μg STXeq/kg in the low-density group. Changes in the proportion of each PST component were transferred from A. catenella to M. unguiculatus. The proportion of C2 was significantly reduced from 74.1% (A. catenella) to 22.6% (high-density group) and 17.1% (low-density group) (P < 0.05); the percentage of C1 increased from 10.6% (A. catenella) to 54.1% (high-density group) and 54.0% (low-density group) (P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in the percentage of GTX5 between A. catenella and mussels in the different density groups (P > 0.05). No significant conversion was observed between the PST components in the hepatopancreas of mussels throughout the experiment.Our data indicate that the daily accumulation rate of PSTs in M. unguiculatus was lower than that in other mussels. Moreover, the toxin elimination rate was higher than that of other mussels. A negative correlation was observed between the filtration rate of M. unguiculatus and the PST content of each tissue type. These results show that M. unguiculatus is more sensitive to PSTs than other mussels. During the stage of PST transfer from A. catenella to M. unguiculatus, a high proportion of C2 toxin was converted to C1 toxin. After accumulating in the hepatopancreas, the PST profile exhibited relatively stable performance. In summary, we conclude that, due to higher susceptibility to toxins and lower conversion rates, a lower risk is associated with the consumption of M. unguiculatus than with that of other mussels. Our findings will contribute to improving our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the PST accumulation risk in M. unguiculatus and provide valuable scientific insights for developing prevention and risk management strategies concerning PSTs.

Abstract Background In addition to functioning as a precise monitoring mechanism in cell cycle, the anaphase-promoting complex/cyclosome (APC/C) is reported to be involved in regulating multiple metabolic processes by facilitating the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of key enzymes. Fatty acid oxidation is a metabolic pathway utilized by tumor cells that is crucial for malignant progression; however, its association with APC/C remains to be explored. Methods Cell cycle synchronization, immunoblotting, and propidium iodide staining were performed to investigate the carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 C (CPT1C) expression manner. Proximity ligation assay and co-immunoprecipitation were performed to detect interactions between CPT1C and APC/C. Flow cytometry, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4-sulfophenyl)-2 H-tetrazolium, inner salt (MTS) assays, cell-scratch assays, and transwell assays and xenograft transplantation assays were performed to investigate the role of CPT1C in tumor progression in vitro and in vivo. Immunohistochemistry was performed on tumor tissue microarray to evaluate the expression levels of CPT1C and explore its potential clinical value. Results We identified CPT1C as a novel APC/C substrate. CPT1C protein levels exhibited cell cycle-dependent fluctuations, peaking at the G1/S boundary. Elevated CPT1C accelerated the G1/S transition, facilitating tumor cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, CPT1C enhanced fatty acid utilization, upregulated ATP levels, and decreased reactive oxygen species levels, thereby favoring cell survival in a harsh metabolic environment. Clinically, high CPT1C expression correlated with poor survival in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Conclusions Overall, our results revealed a novel interplay between fatty acid utilization and cell cycle machinery in tumor cells. Additionally, CPT1C promoted tumor cell proliferation and survival by augmenting cellular ATP levels and preserving redox homeostasis, particularly under metabolic stress. Therefore, CPT1C could be an independent prognostic indicator in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

IntroductionAutoimmune encephalitis (AE) comprises a group of inflammatory brain disorders mediated by autoimmune responses. Anti–N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, anti–leucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 (LGI1) encephalitis, and anti–γ-aminobutyric acid-B receptor (GABABR) encephalitis are the most prevalent forms, characterized by the presence of antibodies against neuronal cell-surface antigens. Efgartigimod, an antagonist of the neonatal Fc receptor, has proven efficacy in myasthenia gravis treatment. This clinical case report describes the clinical progression and functional outcomes of AE in three patients who received efgartigimod treatment.Case presentationsCase 1 was a 60-year-old man exhibiting memory impairment and psychiatric disturbances over 11 days. Case 2 was a 38-year-old man with a 1-month history of rapid cognitive decline and seizures. Case 3 was a 68-year-old woman with mental behavioral changes and seizures for 4 months. Anti-GABABR, anti-LGI1, and anti-NMDAR antibodies were confirmed in the respective patients’ cerebrospinal fluid or serum. All three patients experienced marked and swift symptomatic relief after four cycles of efgartigimod treatment, with no complication.ConclusionCurrent first-line and second-line treatments for AE have limitations, and efgartigimod has demonstrated potential in the rapid and efficacious treatment of AE, emerging as a promising option for the management of this disease.

Cancer patients by immune checkpoint therapy have achieved long-term remission, with no recurrence of clinical symptoms of cancer for many years. Nevertheless, more than half of cancer patients are not responsive to this therapy due to immune exhaustion. Here, we report a novel gene engineered exosome which is rationally designed by engineering PD1 gene and simultaneously enveloping an immune adjuvant imiquimod (PD1-Imi Exo) for boosting response of cancer immune checkpoint blockage therapy. The results showed that PD1-Imi Exo had a vesicular round shape (approximately 139 nm), revealed a significant targeting and a strong binding effect with both cancer cell and dendritic cell, and demonstrated a remarkable therapeutic efficacy in the melanoma-bearing mice and in the breast cancer-bearing mice. The mechanism was associated with two facts that PD1-Imi Exo blocked the binding of CD8+ T cell with cancer cell, displaying a PD1/PDL1 immune checkpoint blockage effect, and that imiquimod released from PD1-Imi Exo promoted the maturation of immature dendritic cell, exhibiting a reversing effect on the immune exhaustion through activating and restoring function of CD8+ T cell. In conclusion, the gene engineered exosome could be used for reversing T cell exhaustion in cancer immunotherapy. This study also offers a promising new strategy for enhancing PD1/PDL1 therapeutic efficacy, preventing tumor recurrence or metastasis after surgery by rebuilding the patients' immunity, thus consolidating the overall prognosis.

Background: There have been no reports about the application of random survival forest (RSF) model to predict disease progression of HIV-associated B-cell lymphoma. Methods: A total of 44 patients with HIV-associated B-cell lymphoma who were referred to Nanjing Second Hospital from 2012 to 2019 were included. The RSF model was used to find predictors of survival, and the results of the RSF model were compared with those of the Cox model. The data were analyzed using R software (version 4.1.1). Results: One-, 2-, and 3-year survival rates were 74.5%, 57.7%, and 48.6%, respectively, and the median survival was 59.0 months. The first 3 most important predictors of survival included lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), absolute monocyte count (AMC), and white blood cells (WBCs) count. The median survival of high-risk patients was only 4.0 months. Areas under the curve (AUCs) of the RSF model remained at more than 0.90 at 1, 2, and 3 years. The RSF model displayed a lower prediction error rate (21.9%) than the Cox model (25.4%). Conclusions: Lactate dehydrogenase, AMC, and WBCs count are the most important prognostic predictors for patients with HIV-associated B-cell lymphoma. Much larger prospective and/or multicentre studies are required to validtae this RSF model.

Based on the two most recent assessments of Chinese higher plants in 2013 and 2020, of 34,450 and 39,330 species, respectively, we analysed the threatened status of Chinese higher plants. In 2020, around 4,088 (10.39%) of the assessed species in China are threatened, 2,875 (7.31%) Near Threatened, 27,593 (70.16%) not currently threatened and categorised as Least Concern and 4,752 (12.08%) categorised as Data Deficient. While in 2013, 3,767 (10.93%) of the assessed higher plants in China are threatened, 2,723 (7.90%) Near Threatened, 24,296 (70.53%) Least Concern and 3,612 (10.48%) Data Deficient. Estimates of the Red List Index in the two years show different patterns when using different weighting methods with the equal steps weighting method showing a slight decrease (0.91675–0.91495) and the extinction risk weighting method showing a slight increase (0.98792–0.98797). We inferred that China’s threatened plant species were likely / relatively effectively protected. However, attention should also be given to the non-threatened species in the future as an additional strategy for their conservation, to maintain their non-threatened status.

Sea ice concentration (SIC) is an important dimension for characterising the geographical features of the pan-Arctic region. Trends in SIC bring new opportunities for human activities in the Arctic region. In this paper, we propose a deep learning technology-based sea ice concentration prediction model, SICFormer, which can realise end-to-end daily sea ice concentration prediction. Specifically, the model uses a 3D-Swin Transformer as an encoder and designs a decoder to reconstruct the predicted image based on PixelShuffle. This is a new model architecture that we have proposed. Single-day SIC data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) for the years 2006 to 2022 are utilised. The results of 8-day short-term prediction experiments show that the average Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of the SICFormer model on the test set over the 5 years is 1.89%, the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) is 5.99%, the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) is 4.32%, and the Nash–Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) is 0.98. Furthermore, the current popular deep learning models for spatio-temporal prediction are employed as a point of comparison given their proven efficacy on numerous public datasets. The comparison experiments show that the SICFormer model achieves the best overall performance.

Carbonate stress has profound impacts on both agricultural and industrial production. Although a number of salinity-tolerant genes have been reported and applied in plants, there is a lack of research on the role of cell wall-related genes in resistance to carbonate. Likewise, in industry, current strategies have not been able to more effectively address the conflict between stress-induced microalgal biofuel accumulation and microalgal growth inhibition. It is of great significance to study the adaptation mechanism of carbonate-tolerant organisms and to explore related genes for future genetic modification. In this study, the role of the cell wall in the NaHCO3-tolerant chlorella JB17 was investigated. We found that JB17 possesses a relatively thick cell wall with a thickness of 300–600 nm, which is much higher than that of the control chlorella with a thickness of about 100 nm. Determination of the cell wall polysaccharide fractions showed that the cellulose content in the JB17 cell wall increased by 10.48% after NaHCO3 treatment, and the decrease in cellulose levels by cellulase digestion inhibited its resistance to NaHCO3. Moreover, the saccharide metabolome revealed that glucose, rhamnose, and trehalose levels were higher in JB17, especially rhamnose and trehalose, which were almost 40 times higher than in control chlorella. Gene expression detection identified an up-regulated expressed gene after NaHCO3 treatment, JbKOBITO1, overexpression of which could improve the NaHCO3 tolerance of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. As it encodes a glycosyltransferase-like protein that is involved in cellulose synthesis, the strong tolerance of JB17 to NaHCO3 may be partly due to the up-regulated expression of JbKOBITO 1 and JbKOBITO 1-mediated cellulose accumulation. The above results revealed a critical role of cellulose in the NaHCO3 resistance of JB17, and the identified NaHCO3-tolerance gene will provide genetic resources for crop breeding in saline-alkali soils and for genetic modification of microalgae for biofuel production.

As the world’s first large grain crop, wheat in its mechanized harvesting process faces a serious problem, namely, when the combine harvester operating parameters are not set reasonably, it leads to increased losses of wheat kernels to an extent exceeding the prescribed standard, of which the loss of scavenging accounts for a large proportion. Excessive grain harvest loss will not only reduce the quality of the wheat harvest but also adversely affect its yield. Real-time monitoring of losses in the harvesting process is key to the dynamic adjustment of operating parameters to decrease machine harvesting losses. This article proposes a grain cleaning loss monitoring device for combine harvesters suitable for wheat crops. It aims to measure the loss of grain cleaning in the process of wheat harvesting in real time and adjust the operating parameters of the harvester timeously by feeding back the data to the driver in real time, so as to decrease the loss of wheat grains in the process of harvesting and achieve the purpose of reducing the loss of harvest. When the device was tested in the field, the wheat variety was Bainong 4199, the yield per mu was 625.83 kg (one mu is 1/15 of a hectare, or approximately 666.67 m2), the mass of grain was 43.21 g, and the water content was 14.2%. After the test, the monitoring error of the loss monitoring device was within 8%, and the average error rate was 6.69%. The test proves that the monitoring device achieves the expected design effect and meets design requirements. The results of this paper are of significance to the intelligent control system of wheat combine harvesters and provide a reference for research into grain cleaning loss monitoring devices for wheat combine harvesters.

Revealing the spatial–temporal evolution of carbon storage and its driving mechanisms in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau could provide support for decision making in the protection of regional ecosystems and the achievement of regional dual-carbon goals. In this study, the spatial–temporal evolution of carbon storage in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau was analyzed under various scenarios using PLUS-InVEST and a gravity center model, and the driving mechanisms of carbon storage were clarified with Geodetector. The results are as follows: (1) During 2000–2020, the areas of coniferous forest, evergreen broad-leaved forest, closed shrub, temperate shrub desert, multi-tree grassland, and grassland showed an increasing trend, while the areas of deciduous broad-leaved forest and mixed forest showed a decreasing trend. (2) During 2030–2060, there was a decreasing trend in the total carbon storage of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau under three different scenarios. (3) During 2030–2060, the area of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau was mostly represented by carbon balance (56%), while the areas of carbon sources and carbon sinks showed a scattered distribution. (4) The precipitation and topographic factors with a q value of 0.888 played a dominant role in affecting the spatio-temporal variations in carbon storage in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. (5) In future ecological protection and restoration efforts, more high-quality farmlands should be protected and constructed, which could contribute to the achievement of dual-carbon goals. In addition, the hydrothermal conditions should be improved to aid the carbon cycle process in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau.

Phytopathogenic fungi normally secrete large amounts of CWDEs to enhance infection of plants. In this study, we identified and characterized a secreted glycosyl hydrolase 5 family member in Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (SsGH5, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum Glycosyl Hydrolase 5). SsGH5 was significantly upregulated during the early stages of infection. Knocking out SsGH5 did not affect the growth and acid production of S. sclerotiorum but resulted in decreased glucan utilization and significantly reduced virulence. In addition, Arabidopsis thaliana expressing SsGH5 became more susceptible to necrotrophic pathogens and basal immune responses were inhibited in these plants. Remarkably, the lost virulence of the ΔSsGH5 mutants was restored after inoculating onto SsGH5 transgenic Arabidopsis. In summary, these results highlight that S. sclerotiorum suppresses the immune responses of Arabidopsis through secreting SsGH5, and thus exerts full virulence for successful infection.

Estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer accounts for the majority of breast cancers diagnosed, and nearly 20% of patients do not respond to endocrine therapy. The pathogenesis of ER+ breast cancer has not been well elucidated. The enhancer is a cis-regulatory element that promotes gene transcription and plays an important role in the spatiotemporal expression of cellular genes. Nevertheless, the oncogenic enhancer and its role in the occurrence and progression of cancer remain unclear. Here, we report a novel oncogenic enhancer (named αEmyc) for c-Myc and reveal its activation mechanism in ER+ breast cancer. The results demonstrated that αEmyc enhanced the transcription of downstream genes more than 20-fold. The deletion of the 7-bp region (GGTTGCA) in αEmyc significantly downregulated the expression of c-Myc, resulting in cell nuclear changes, cell-cycle arrest, cell apoptosis, and finally, remarkable inhibition of cell proliferation. In conclusion, the present study discovers a novel oncogenic enhancer αEmyc (801 base pairs [bp], at Chr8: 127668529–127669329) and offers a remarkable core enhancer target (GGTTGCA) of αEmyc for gene therapy of ER+ breast cancer.

Abstract Background Ammonium is an important raw material for biomolecules and life activities, and the toxicity of ammonium is also an important ecological and agricultural issue. Ammonium toxicity in yeast has only recently been discovered, and information on its mechanism is limited. In recent years, environmental pollution caused by nitrogen-containing wastewater has been increasing. In addition, the use of yeast in bioreactors to produce nitrogen-containing compounds has been developed. Therefore, research on resistance mechanisms that allow yeast to grow under conditions of high concentrations of ammonium has become more and more important. Results To further understand the resistance mechanism of yeast to grow under high concentration of ammonium, we used NH4Cl to screen a yeast non-essential gene-deletion library. We identified 61 NH4Cl-sensitive deletion mutants from approximately 4200 mutants in the library, then 34 of them were confirmed by drop test analysis. Enrichment analysis of these 34 genes showed that biosynthesis metabolism, mitophagy, MAPK signaling, and other pathways may play important roles in NH4Cl resistance. Transcriptome analysis under NH4Cl stress revealed 451 significantly upregulated genes and 835 significantly downregulated genes. The genes are mainly enriched in: nitrogen compound metabolic process, cell wall, MAPK signaling pathway, mitophagy, and glycine, serine and threonine metabolism. Conclusions Our results present a broad view of biological pathways involved in the response to NH4Cl stress, and thereby advance our understanding of the resistance genes and cellular transcriptional regulation under high concentration of ammonium.

ObjectivePrevious observational studies have suggested that antioxidant imbalance is correlated with neurodegenerative diseases, while its cause–effect remains unclear. Thus, the goal of the present study is to explore the causal relationship between 11 antioxidant biomarkers and 3 most common neurodegenerative diseases [Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson’s disease (PD)].MethodsA bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) study was performed to investigate the causal effects by using 3 main methods (Variance Weighted (IVW), Weighted Median (WM), and MR-Egger regression) in the European population. The data of 11 antioxidant biomarkers were obtained from the open database by the most up-to-date Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS), the summary statistics of PD and ALS were obtained from the International Parkinson’s Disease Genomics Consortium (IPDGC) (33,674 cases, and 449,056 controls), and the International Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Genomics Consortium (IALSC) (20,806 cases and 59,804 controls), respectively. BackgroundReceiving a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment is both a physical and emotional journey. Previous studies using single-source data have revealed common and culture-specific emotional experiences of patients living with breast cancer. However, few studies have combined such data from multiple sources. Thus, using a variety of data sources, the current study sought to explore the emotional experiences of women in China newly diagnosed, post-operative, or undergoing chemotherapy. We posited that even though women living with breast cancer in China have multiple channels through which they can express these emotional experiences, little variance would be found in their emotional expressivity and the themes they want to express due to cultural inhibitions.MethodsText data from female patients newly diagnosed, post-operative, or undergoing chemotherapy were collected between June 2021 and January 2022 via a Python web crawler, semi-structured interviews, and an expressive writing intervention. Data were transcribed and subjected to thematic analysis. Reporting followed the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative studies (COREQ) guidelines.ResultsAnalyses were based on 5,675 Weibo posts and comments published by 448 posters and 1,842 commenters, transcription texts from 17 semi-structured interviews, and 150 expressive writing texts. From this total collection of 461,348 Chinese characters, three major themes emerged: (i) conflicting emotions after diagnosis; (ii) long-term suffering and treatment concerns; and (iii) benefit finding and cognitive reappraisal.ConclusionsDespite gathering information from various sources, we found that distress from body-image disturbances, gender role loss and conflict, and changes in sexuality and fertility, were consistent among this sample of female Chinese patients with breast cancer. However, when women engaged actively in benefit finding and cognitive reappraisal with strong social support, patients were able to find ways to adapt and reported post-traumatic growth. Strong social support was an important facilitator in this growth. These study findings emphasize that healthcare professionals ought to increase cultural sensitivity, provide multiple channels to encourage patients to express their emotions, and incorporate screening for patients' emotional distress at all diagnostic and treatment phases as part of routine nursing care.

Nearshore bathymetry plays an essential role in various applications, and satellite-derived bathymetry (SDB) presents a promising approach due to its extensive coverage and comprehensive bathymetric map production capabilities. Nevertheless, existing retrieval techniques, encompassing physics-based and pixel-based statistical methodologies such as support vector regression (SVR), band ratio, and Kriging regression, exhibit limitations stemming from the intricate water reflectance process and the under-exploitation of the spatial component inherent in SDB. To surmount these obstacles, we introduce employment of deep convolutional networks (DCNs) for SDB in this study. We assembled multiple scenes utilizing networks with varying scale emphasis and an assortment of satellite datasets characterized by distinct spatial and spectral resolutions. Our findings reveal that these deep learning models yield high-caliber bathymetry outcomes, with nonlinear normalization further mitigating residuals in shallow water regions and substantially enhancing retrieval performance. A comparative analysis with the prevalent SVR technique substantiates the efficacy of the proposed methodology.

Objective: Jue tone is a kind of sound, using 3-mi as the main tone, and is melodious, profound, makes people feel comfortable and pleasant. This study aimed to explore the probable mechanism of Jue tone to reduce blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive rats with a liver-fire hyperactivity pattern by observing changes in BP as well as physiochemical indexes in plasma. Methods: Sixteen male spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) with a liver-fire hyperactivity pattern were randomly divided into a control group and a Jue tone group. The rats in the Jue tone group were treated with Jue tone (55–65 dB, played by the five elements of music rhythm instrument, a kind of physiotherapy regimen music played by Shen Wu) once a day for 4 weeks. The BP levels in each group were measured twice a week, on Monday and Friday. The levels of angiotensin II (Ang- II), thromboxane B2 (TXB2), endothelin-1 (ET-1), calcitonin gene-related peptide (cGRP), norepinephrine (NE), cortisol (CORT), and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). in plasma were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay after 4 weeks of intervention. Results: BP and the levels of TXB2 and ET-1 in the plasma of the treatment group were significantly lower than those of the control group, while the level of cGRP was significantly higher. Conclusion: Jue tone can reduce the BP of hypertensive rats with a liver-fire hyperactivity pattern. The mechanism may correlate with a reduction in TXB2 and ET-1 and an increase in cGRP with the reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Background: Despite advancements in chronic heart failure (CHF) treatment, the effect often remains unsatisfactory and unstable. More effective therapies are needed. Qishen granules (QSG) are a novel Chinese botanical drug effective in treating CHF in animal models, but clinical evidence remains inadequate.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effects of QSG on patients with CHF.Methods: We enrolled CHF patients in this 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and randomly assigned them to the QSG (twice a day, 6.8 g granules at once) or placebo group. The primary endpoint was a change in the plasma N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) level after treatment. The secondary outcome consists of the New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification, 6-min walking distance (6MWD), TCM syndrome integral scale, quality of life, and echocardiographic index.Results: A total of 191 patients completed the 12-week follow-up period, with 94 in the QSG group and 97 in the placebo group. The Qishen granules group demonstrated a considerably greater reduction in NT-proBNP than the placebo group (50% vs 32% for QSG vs placebo, respectively; p = 0.011). Patients who received QSG performed better in the NYHA functional rank, 6MWD, TCM syndrome integral scale, and quality of life (p < 0.05). The QSG group performed better in HFrEF patients regarding the efficiency of NT-proBNP. There was no statistical significance in the change in evaluated safety parameters, such as blood routine and biochemistry.Conclusion: Based on standard treatment, Qishen granules further reduced the levels of NT-proBNP when compared with placebo. Together with other outcomes, our findings suggest that QSG could be used in combination therapy for CHF.Clinical Trial Registration: www.clinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT03027375. In order to explore the feasibility of arc additive processing of metal powder-cored welding wire,30CrMnSiA high-strength steel powder-cored wire was adopted,combined with high-speed camera and electric signal synchronous acquisition system,to analyze the droplet transfer characteristics and arc stability of the wire under pulse melting and gas shielded welding process.Under certain process parameters,the influence of pulse process WAAM on formability,microstructure and mechanical properties of deposited parts of high-strength steel powder-cored wire was discussed.The experimental results show that the droplet transfer type of high-strength steel powder-cored welding wire is a short circuit transition with non-axial droplet and multiple pulses one drop;the transverse and longitudinal mechanical properties of the deposited part are different;both the strength and toughness along with transverse are better than that of longitudinal direction;there are a large number of dimples on the transverse and longitudinal fractures of the deposited parts,which suggest that the fracture modes are both micropore aggregation plastic fracture,and the size of dimples on the longitudinal fracture is significantly larger than that in the transverse fracture.Therefore,when the metal powder-cored wire is applied to the field of additive processing,its performance meets the application requirements,and the deposited parts with excellent microstructure and mechanical properties can be obtained.The research results provide reference for improving the additive processing efficiency and performance of the metal powder-cored wire.[HQ]

Background: Deoxythymidylate kinase (DTYMK) has been reported to correlate with the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma. However, the role of DTYMK in human cancers is not studied. In this study, we studied the prognostic value, functional states, and correlations with immune infiltration of DTYMK in human cancers.Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx), UALCAN, Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), the search tool for the retrieval of interacting genes (STRING), GeneMANIA, cBioPortal, Cancer Single-cell State Atlas (CancerSEA), and Tumor IMmune Estimation Resource (TIMER) databases were utilized to analyze DTYMK in cancers.Results: In general, DTYMK is abnormally expressed between most human cancer and normal tissues from a pan-cancer perspective. DTYMK can be used as a diagnostic biomarker to differentiate tumor tissues from normal tissues in most tumors. Upregulation of DTYMK predicted poor survival status in most cancer types in TCGA. Moreover, DTYMK expression was correlated with the T stage in ACC, BRCA, KIRC, LIHC, and LUAD, with the N stage in BLCA, HNSC, KICH, KIRC, LUAD, LUSC, and THCA, with the M stage in ACC, KIRC, KIRP, and LUAD, with TNM stage in ACC, KIRC, LIHC, LUAD, and LUSC. In addition, based on single-cell sequencing data, we concluded that the expression of DTYMK was correlated with the functional status of the cell cycle, DNA damage, DNA repair, invasion, EMT, and proliferation. Finally, DTYMK expression was correlated with six infiltrating immune cells, including B cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and dendritic cells by investigating TIMER.Conclusion: Our findings suggested that abnormally expressed DTYMK was correlated with poor survival, malignant functional status, and immune infiltrates. DTYMK might be served as a potential biomarker for diagnosis and poor prognosis in various cancer types. DTYMK might act as a potential target for immune therapy.

Hemoglobin (Hb) and lipid metabolism are critical in the pathophysiology of moyamoya disease (MMD), and Hb and triglycerides (TGs) both play roles in the development of cerebrovascular illness. However, there is little evidence of a link between Hb and TGs in patients with MMD. This study aimed to determine the association between Hb and TGs in patients who had recently been diagnosed with MMD. From March 2013 to December 2018, 337 patients clinically diagnosed with MMD were admitted to our hospital. Among these, 235 were selected for analysis in this retrospective, cross-sectional study. Each patient's clinical features were documented. For analysis, we used univariate analysis, smoothed-curve fitting, and multivariable, piecewise linear regression. Overall, the mean±standard deviation patient age was 48.14 ± 11.24 years, 44.68% were men, and the mean Hb concentration was 135.72 ± 18.99 g/L. After controlling for relevant confounders, smoothed-curve fitting revealed a nonlinear association between the Hb and TG concentrations (P = 0.0448). When the Hb concentration was below 141 g/L, multivariate piecewise linear regression analysis revealed a significant association between the Hb and TG concentrations [β: 0.01, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.00, 0.01; P = 0.0182], although the association disappeared above this threshold (β:−0.00, 95% CI:−0.01, 0.01; P = 0.4429). In individuals newly diagnosed with MMD, there is a significant correlation between Hb and TGs, which may be connected to MMD pathogenesis.

BackgroundThere are few data on the clinical significance of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in asymptomatic type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. We performed a retrospective study to evaluate coronary heart disease (CHD) screening in asymptomatic patients with T2DM using CCTA and CHD risk stratification prediction.Materials and methodsData from 141 T2DM patients (58 ± 8 years, 57% males) without known symptoms suggestive of CHD who underwent CCTA were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were classified into three subgroups based on United Kingdom prospective diabetes study (UKPDS) CHD risk stratification prediction. Seventy-four patients without diabetes mellitus and CHD who underwent CCTA successively were chosen as the control group. The segment involvement score (SIS), segment stenosis score (SSS), stenosis coefficient (SC), severe proximal plaque (SPP) positive ratio and CCTA-adapted Leaman score (CT-LeSc) based on CCTA data were evaluated and compared among the groups.ResultsCompared with the patients in the control group, patients in the moderate-high risk DM groups had higher scores on the SIS, SSS, SC, CT-LeSc, and a higher SPP positive ratio (all p-values < 0.001), and no difference was observed between the low-risk group and the control group (p = 0.136, p = 0.088, p = 0.0.067, p = 0.225, p = 1.000, respectively). Compared with patients in the control group, the patients in the moderate-high risk DM groups had increased odds of SIS > 3 [odds ratio (OR) = 6.557, p < 0.001; OR = 4.455, p < 0.001, respectively], SSS > 5 (OR = 5.727, p < 0.001; OR = 5.144, p < 0.001, respectively), CT-LeSc > 8.7 (OR = 3.780, p = 0.001; OR = 2.804, p = 0.007, respectively), and obstructive stenosis (OR = 7.233, p < 0.001; OR = 5.787, p < 0.001, respectively).ConclusionThe moderate-high CHD risk patients had increased odds of obstructive coronary artery stenosis, and the distribution of coronary artery stenosis was more extensive and more severe in that group compared to the patients without diabetes mellitus and CHD. CHD can be effectively screened in moderate-high risk asymptomatic T2DM patients using CCTA.

The changes in the recent and future spatial–temporal patterns of carbon storage of the Tibetan Plateau and its dominant factors in different periods were unclear, and were conducive to optimizing the spatial layout of land. Exploring the spatial and temporal changes in terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage and their influencing factors during a long study period had important theoretical and practical significance for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. In this study, the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Trade-offs model (InVEST) was used to analyze the changes in carbon storage based on vegetation-type data during 2000–2020. The Path-generating Land-Use Simulation model (PLUS) was then used to predict the spatial distribution of carbon storage in the Tibetan Plateau in 2030 and 2060 under inertial development, farmland protection and ecology priority scenarios. The results showed that: (1) The degradation of vegetation types reduced the carbon storage during the study period. During 2000–2020, the desert shrub and non-vegetation area expanded by 63.21% and 13.35%, respectively, while the deciduous scrub, mixed forest and low coverage grassland decreased accordingly. The carbon storage of the Tibetan Plateau showed a decreasing trend by 0.37 × 106 t. (2) The spatial distribution patterns of carbon storage were consistent with that of the vegetation types. (3) In 2030 and 2060, under the constraint of the ecological priority development, the reduction in carbon storage was the smallest, at 0.01 × 106 t and 0.16 × 106 t, respectively. Under the constraint of the inertial development, carbon storage had the largest reduction, at 0.12 × 106 t and 0.43 × 106 t, respectively. (4) During 2000–2020, the dominant single factor that had the greatest impacts on the changes in carbon storage was FVC (vegetation coverage), with q values of 0.616, 0.619 and 0.567, respectively. The interactive dominant effects were mainly nonlinear enhancement and double-factor enhancement. The interactive dominant factors that had the greatest impact were FVC and the DEM (Digital Elevation Model), with q values of 0.94, 0.92 and 0.90, respectively. Therefore, ecological land with a high FVC should be protected and the expansion of non-vegetation areas should be restricted in future planning to improve the carbon storage level of the Tibetan Plateau and achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive muscle paralysis, which is followed by degeneration of motor neurons in the motor cortex of the brainstem and spinal cord. The etiology of sporadic ALS (sALS) is still unknown, limiting the exploration of potential treatments. Ferroptosis is a new form of cell death and is reported to be closely associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and ALS. In this study, we used datasets (autopsy data and blood data) from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) to explore the role of ferroptosis and ferroptosis-related gene (FRG) alterations in ALS. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) found that the activated ferroptosis pathway displayed a higher enrichment score, and the expression of 26 ferroptosis genes showed obvious group differences between ALS and controls. Using weighted gene correlation network analysis (WGCNA), we identified FRGs associated with ALS, of which the Gene Ontology (GO) analysis displayed that the biological process of oxidative stress was the most to be involved in. KEGG pathway analysis revealed that the FRGs were enriched not only in ferroptosis pathways but also in autophagy, FoxO, and mTOR signaling pathways. Twenty-one FRGs (NR4A1, CYBB, DRD4, SETD1B, LAMP2, ACSL4, MYB, PROM2, CHMP5, ULK1, AKR1C2, TGFBR1, TMBIM4, MLLT1, PSAT1, HIF1A, LINC00336, AMN, SLC38A1, CISD1, and GABARAPL2) in the autopsy data and 16 FRGs (NR4A1, DRD4, SETD1B, MYB, PROM2, CHMP5, ULK1, AKR1C2, TGFBR1, TMBIM4, MLLT1, HIF1A, LINC00336, IL33, SLC38A1, and CISD1) in the blood data were identified as target genes by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis (LASSO), in which gene signature could differentiate ALS patients from controls. Finally, the higher the expression of CHMP5 and SLC38A1 in whole blood, the shorter the lifespan of ALS patients will be. In summary, our study presents potential biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of ALS.

Background: Although previous studies reported that 26S proteasome non-ATPase regulatory subunit 2 (PSMD2) is involved in many human cancers. However, its clinical significance and function in lung adenocarcinoma remain unclear. Here, we examined the prognostic and immunological role of PSMD2 in lung adenocarcinoma.Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) was conducted to analyze PSMD2 expression and verified using UALCAN. PrognoScan and Kaplan-Meier curves were utilized to assess the effect of PSMD2 on survival. cBioPortal database was conducted to identify the mutation characteristics of PSMD2. Functional enrichment was performed to determine PSMD2-related function. Cancer Single-cell State Atlas (CancerSEA) was used to explore the cancer functional status of PSMD2 at single-cell resolution. PSMD2-related immune infiltration analysis was conducted. Tumor-Immune system interaction database (TISIDB) was performed to verify the correlation between PSMD2 expression and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs).Results: Both mRNA and protein expression of PSMD2 were significantly elevated in lung adenocarcinoma. High expression of PSMD2 was significantly correlated with high T stage (p = 0.014), lymph node metastases (p < 0.001), and TNM stage p = 0.005). Kaplan-Meier curves indicated that high expression of PSMD2 was correlated with poor overall survival (38.2 vs. 59.7 months, p < 0.001) and disease-specific survival (59.9 months vs. not available, p = 0.004). Multivariate analysis suggested that PSMD2 was an independent biomarker for poor overall survival (HR 1.471, 95%CI, 1.024–2.114, p = 0.037). PSMD2 had a high mutation frequency of 14% in lung adenocarcinoma. The genetic mutation of PSMD2 was also correlated with poor overall survival, disease-specific survival, and progression-free survival in lung adenocarcinoma. Functional enrichment suggested PSMD2 expression was involved in the cell cycle, RNA transport, and cellular senescence. CancerSEA analysis indicated PSMD2 expression was positively correlated with cell cycle, DNA damage, and DNA repair. Immune infiltration analysis suggested that PSMD2 expression was correlated with immune cell infiltration levels and abundance of TILs.Conclusion: The upregulation of PSMD2 is significantly correlated with poor prognosis and immune infiltration levels in lung adenocarcinoma. Our findings suggest that PSMD2 is a potential biomarker for poor prognosis and immune therapeutic target in lung adenocarcinoma.

The estimation of lake depth and water storage is crucial for water resource management in inland waters. In previous studies, lake water storage estimation required in situ bathymetry data; however, the high cost of fieldwork prevented the extension of this method to all lakes. This study aims to solve this problem by studying how to estimate lake water storage without using bathymetric data. According to the similarity between the topography surrounding the lake and the underwater topography, we present an approach to estimate the lake water storage. The principle of the method is to extend the surrounding terrain into the underwater area to establish an underwater model. In this study, six lakes of the Tibetan Plateau were selected, and the results showed that the average R2 between the estimated and measured water depths of the six lakes was about 0.76. Among them, the estimated water depth of Taiyang Lake (maximum depth of 61.57 m) had the largest deviation from the measured water depth, with an RMSE (root mean square error) of 19.77 m, while the estimated water depth of Bangda Co (maximum depth of 41.04 m) had the best result, with an RMSE of 7.83 m. The relative errors of all water storage estimations were less than 20%. The lake with the best accuracy was Zigetang Co (measured water storage of 39.6 Gt), and the estimated water storage was 42.2 Gt, with a relative error of 6.57%. The lake with the worst accuracy was Taiyang Lake (measured water storage of 31.94 Gt), and the estimated water storage was 36.47 Gt, with a relative error of 14.18%. This study provides an effective method for lake depth estimation and improves the ability to monitor changes in lake storage, especially for lakes with harsh environments or in remote areas.

Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) is an important inorganic salt. It is not only widely used in industrial production and daily life, but is also the main stress in alkaline saline soil. NaHCO3 has a strong ability to inhibit the growth of fungi in both natural environment and daily application. However, the mechanism by which fungi respond to NaHCO3 stress is not fully understood. To further clarify the toxic mechanisms of NaHCO3 stress and identify the specific cellular genes and pathways involved in NaHCO3 resistance, we performed genome-wide screening with NaHCO3 using a Saccharomyces cerevisiae deletion mutant library. A total of 33 deletion mutants with NaHCO3 sensitivity were identified. Compared with wild-type strains, these mutants had significant growth defects in the medium containing NaHCO3. Bioinformatics analysis found that the corresponding genes of these mutants are mainly enriched in the cell cycle, mitophagy, cell wall integrity, and signaling pathways. Further study using transcriptomic analysis showed that 309 upregulated and 233 downregulated genes were only responded to NaHCO3 stress, when compared with yeast transcriptomic data under alkaline and saline stress. Upregulated genes were mainly concentrated in amino acid metabolism, steroid biosynthesis, and cell wall, while downregulated genes were enriched in various cellular metabolisms. In summary, we have identified the cellular pathways and key genes that respond to NaHCO3 stress in the whole genome, providing resource and direction for understanding NaHCO3 toxicity and cellular resistance mechanisms.

Abstract Background The anomalous origin of the right coronary artery (RCA) from the left coronary artery sinus (AORL) is one of the abnormal origins of the coronary arteries. Most of these issues rarely have any effects on human health, but some individuals may exhibit symptoms, such as myocardial ischemia or even sudden death. Recently, researchers have investigated the AORL through clinical cases, but studies based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) have rarely been reported. In this study, the hemodynamic changes between the normal origin of the RCA and the AORL are compared based on numerical simulation results. Methods Realistic three-dimensional (3D) models of the 16 normal right coronary arteries and 26 abnormal origins of the RCAs were constructed, respectively. The blood flow was numerically simulated using the ANSYS software. This study used a one-way fluid–solid coupling finite element model, wherein the blood is assumed to be an incompressible Newtonian fluid, and the vessel is assumed to be made of an isotropic linear elastic material. Objective: To evaluate the effect of Qishen granule (QSG) on heart failure (HF) and the potential mechanisms involved in animal models. Methods: Studies of QSG in animals with HF were identified by searches of eight databases up to August 1, 2019. Two authors independently reviewed each study and the Collaborative Approach to Meta-analysis and Review of Animal Data from Experimental Studies 10-item checklist was used for quality assessment. The primary outcomes were indicators of left ventricular ejection fraction and/or left ventricular fractional shortening. The secondary outcome measures were ventricular structure, hemodynamics, myocardial injury-related indicators, and the mechanisms whereby QSG ameliorates HF. A meta-analysis was performed and all the data were analyzed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: Thirteen studies containing a total of 240 animals met the criteria for the meta-analysis. The quality score of the studies ranged from three to six points. The meta-analysis showed a significant effect of QSG to improve cardiac function, inhibit ventricular remodeling, improve circulation, and attenuate myocardial injury. The possible mechanisms was identified to be suppression of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, which has anti-fibrotic, anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidative effects in the myocardium, the prevention of calcium overload, and the promotion of myocardial energy metabolism. Conclusion: Our review shows that QSG has a cardioprotective effect in animal models of CHF. However, due to the relatively poor quality of the included studies and the differences between humans and animal models, the results should be interpreted with caution.

The current desertification feature space models are almost linear and ignore the complicated and nonlinear relations that exist among variables when monitoring desertification. Herein, point-to-point and point-to-line models have been proposed by completely considering the nonlinear relations between the Albedo-Modified Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (MSAVI) and the effects of soil background. Further, the applicability of these models for monitoring different levels of desertification information was compared and analyzed. The point-to-line feature space model exhibited a larger inversion accuracy (93.8%) for Naiman Banner with respect to albedo-MSAVI when compared with that exhibited by the point-to-point model (88.9%). In addition, the monitoring accuracy is observed to slightly differ for different levels of desertification, and slight and mild desertification exhibit the best inversion accuracy in case of both point-to-point and point-to-line models. Furthermore, the point-to-line model exhibits better applicability in case of intensive (92.7%) and severe (93.3%) desertification when compared with those exhibited by the point-to-point model (87.5% and 88.9%, respectively). The results obtained in this study can provide improved data and decision support for preventing and managing land degradation.

The mechanized sowing operation of corn breeding can improve test accuracy and efficiency and speed up the test process. In view of the problems of low flexibility, high price, and poor sowing quality of the current seeder in corn breeding experiments, the critical components of a hand-pushing corn plot precision planter were optimized. Through the analysis of the relative motion between corn seed and the hole seed-metering wheel, the hole diameter range and hole depth range of the hole seed-metering wheel were determined as 13~19 mm and 6~12 mm, respectively. The chamber structure was optimized to improve the seed filling performance under the condition of a small number of seeds. The angle range between the connecting plate and the horizontal line (ACP) and the angle range between the back plate and the horizontal line (ABP) were 35~55° and 40~70°, respectively. EDEM was used to simulate the seeding circumstances of hole seed-metering wheel with different holes sizes. The optimal combination of hole diameter and depth under different seeds’ sizes and the appropriate angle combination of ACP and ABP were obtained through the orthogonal test. The results of the simulation experiment showed that the optimal hole diameter–depth combinations of the small, medium, and large corn seeds were 13–8, 15–10, and 17–8 mm, respectively. The angle ACP and the angle ABP were, respectively, 45°and 70°. The soil bin test was carried out to further verify the actual seeding effect and the influence of the rotating speed of hole seed-metering wheel on seeding. The results showed that when the rotating speed of hole seed-metering wheel was less than 16.0 r/min, the qualified seeding rates and the double seeds rates of the small, medium, and large corn seeds were higher than 90% and 85%, respectively. The missing seeding rates were 0%. The variation coefficients of plant spacing were less than 5%, indicating good stability of plant spacing, which met the design requirements. The study results can provide a theoretical reference for the optimization design of maize breeding equipment in a plot.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to provide a new classification method by analyzing the relationship between urine color (Ucol) distribution and urine dry chemical parameters based on image digital processing. Furthermore, this study aimed to assess the reliability of Ucol to evaluate the states of body hydration and health.Methods: A cross-sectional study among 525 college students, aged 17–23 years old, of which 59 were men and 466 were women, was conducted. Urine samples were obtained during physical examinations and 524 of them were considered valid, including 87 normal samples and 437 abnormal dry chemistry parameters samples. The urinalysis included both micro- and macro-levels, in which the CIE L*a*b* values and routine urine chemical examination were performed through digital imaging colorimetry and a urine chemical analyzer, respectively.Results: The results showed that L* (53.49 vs. 56.69) in the abnormal urine dry chemistry group was lower than the normal group, while b* (37.39 vs. 33.80) was greater. Urine color can be initially classified based on shade by grouping b*. Abnormal urine dry chemical parameter samples were distributed more in the dark-colored group. Urine dry chemical parameters were closely related to Ucol. Urine specific gravity (USG), protein, urobilinogen, bilirubin, occult blood, ketone body, pH, and the number of abnormal dry chemical parameters were all correlated with Ucol CIE L*a*b*; according to a stepwise regression analysis, it was determined that more than 50% of the variation in the three-color space values came from the urine dry chemical parameters, and the b* value was most affected by USG (standardized coefficient β = 0.734, p < 0.05). Based on a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, Ucol ≥ 4 provided moderate sensitivity and good specificity (AUC = 0.892) for the detection of USG ≥ 1.020.Conclusions: Our findings on the Ucol analysis showed that grouping Ucol based on b* value is an objective, simple, and practical method. At the same time, the results suggested that digital imaging colorimetry for Ucol quantification is a potential method for evaluating body hydration and, potentially, health.

Abstract Background Definite prognostic clinical factors of benefit for decitabine-based induction chemotherapy in elderly patients newly diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) are not identified. This study was designed to explore the potential biomarker, especially regeneration of haematopoiesis, of treatment response and survival in elderly patients with newly diagnosed AML. Method We analysed the clinical data of 117 elderly AML patients who were treated with a decitabine dose of 15 mg/m2 for 5 days, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor of 300 μg/d for priming, plus cytarabine 10 mg/m2 q12h for 7 days and aclarubicin 10 mg/d for 4 days (D-CAG). Purpose: To develop a method for constructing customizable, multimodal quality control (QC) imaging phantoms based on 3D printing technology.Materials and Methods: Four phantoms were designed and constructed through 3D printing technology using three unique printing materials. Physical parameters of the 3D printed materials were evaluated, including density, shore hardness, porosity, deformation temperature, computed tomography (CT) number, absorption coefficient, and printing accuracy. Imaging performance of the phantoms was studied using MRI, CT, PET/MR, and PET/CT, and compared with conventional/commercial phantoms. Imaging assessments included high contrast resolution, low contrast resolution, uniformity, deformation, SNR, slice accuracy/slice thickness, location accuracy/laser alignment, CT number, relaxation time, and registration.Results: All three printing materials have a shore hardness of 90. The physical densities of these materials are 1.15 g/cm3, 0.76 g/cm3, and 1.27 g/cm3, respectively. The porosities are 9.09, 6.81, and 18.56%, respectively. The threshold temperature of deformation for the three materials is >105°C, which is higher than that of PMMA and silica gel. BackgroundEvidence of the preventive and therapeutic effects of enalapril on cardiotoxicity caused by chemotherapy needs to be further confirmed and updated.MethodsWe performed a systematic review of studies from electronic databases that were searched from inception to January 29, 2019, and included relevant studies analyzing enalapril as a cardioprotective agent before or during the use of anthracyclines by oncology patients. Homogeneous results from different studies were pooled using RevMan 5.3 software. The Cochrane risk-of-bias tool was used to determine the quality of the studies.ResultsWe examined and screened 626 studies according to specific criteria and ultimately included seven studies that were relevant to the indicated topic. Among them, three studies reported the incidence of death during 6- and 12-month follow-up periods. Six of the seven included studies showed possible positive results, suggesting that enalapril plays a cardioprotective role, while five of these studies showed that there was a significant difference in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) between an enalapril group and a control group (weighted mean difference (WMD) = 7.18, 95% CI: 2.49–11.87, I2 = 96%, P < .001). Moreover, enalapril was beneficial in reducing troponin I (TnI), creatine kinase myocardial band (CK-MB) and N-terminal pro-b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels in cancer patients treated with anthracycline.ConclusionsAlthough a protective effect of enalapril on myocardial toxicity was observed in terms of the LVEF values and TnI, CK-MB and NT-proBNP levels, its use in the prevention and treatment of cardiotoxicity caused by anthracycline needs to be investigated by more scientific research.

The introduction of ferromagnetism in MoS2 is important for its applications in semiconductor spintronics. MoS2 powders were synthesized by hydrothermal method, followed by the N plasma treatment at room temperature. Weak ferromagnetism with saturated ferromagnetic magnetization of 0.64 memu/g has been observed in the as-synthesized MoS2 at room temperature, which is significant enhanced to 3.67 memu/g after the N plasma treatment for the proper duration. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy demonstrates the adsorption of N, and higher valence state of Mo than +4 due to the bonding with N after the N plasma treatment. First principle calculation has been performed to disclose the possible origin of ferromagnetism. One chemical adsorbed N ion on S ion may form conjugated π bonds with adjacent two Mo ions to have a total magnetic moment of 0.75 μB, contributing to the enhanced ferromagnetism.

Abstract Background The etiology of depression and its effective therapeutic treatment have not been clearly identified. Using behavioral phenotyping and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (r-fMRI), we investigated the behavioral impact and cerebral alterations of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in the rat. We also evaluated the efficacy of telmisartan therapy in this rodent model of depression. Methods Thirty-two rats were divided into 4 groups: a control group(C group), a stress group(S group), a stress + telmisartan(0.5 mg/kg)group (T-0.5 mg/kg group) and a stress + telmisartan(1 mg/kg) group (T-1 mg/kg group). A behavioral battery, including an open field test (OFT), a sucrose preference test (SPT), and an object recognition test (ORT), as well as r-fMRI were conducted after 4 weeks of CUMS and telmisartan therapy. The r-fMRI data were analyzed using the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) approach. The group differences in the behavior and r-fMRI test results as well as the correlations between these 2 approaches were examined. Results CUMS reduced the number of rearings and the total moved distance in OFT, the sucrose preference in SPT, and novel object recognition ability in ORT. The telmisartan treatment (1 mg/kg) significantly improved B-A/B + A in the ORT and improved latency scores in the OFT and SPT. The S group exhibited a decreased ReHo in the motor cortex and pons, but increased ReHo in the thalamus, visual cortex, midbrain, cerebellum, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and olfactory cortex compared to the C group. Telmisartan (1 mg/kg)reversed or attenuated the stress-induced changes in the motor cortex, midbrain, thalamus, hippocampus, hypothalamus, visual cortex, and olfactory cortex. A negative correlation was found between OFT rearing and ReHo values in the thalamus. Two positive correlations were found between ORT B-A and the ReHo values in the olfactory cortexand pons. Conclusions Telmisartan may be an effective complementary drug for individuals with depression who also exhibit memory impairments. Stress induced widespread regional alterations in the cerebrum in ReHo measures while telmissartan can reverse part of theses alterations. These data lend support for future research on the pathology of depression and provide a new insight into the effects of telmisartan on brain function in depression.

Abstract Background Cisplatin (CDDP), a widely used chemotherapeutic agent, can induce excessive granulosa cell apoptosis, follicle loss and even premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). However, the mechanism remains elusive, although some studies have indicated the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS). The aim of our study was to investigate the possible mechanism ERS in CDDP-induced granulosa cell apoptosis and follicle loss. Methods A POI mouse model was generated by CDDP. The ovaries samples were collected and processed for isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification analysis (iTRAQ) to screen out our interested proteins of HSPA5 and HSP90AB1, and the decline in their expression were verified by a real-time quantitative PCR and a western blotting assay. In vitro, human granulosa cells, KGN and COV434 cells were transfected with siRNA targeting HSPA5 and HSP90AB1 and then treated with CDDP, or treated with CDDP with/without CDDP+ 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA) and 3-methyladenine (3-MA). The levels of ERS, autophagy and apoptosis were evaluated by western blotting, DALGreen staining and flow cytometry. In vivo, ovaries from mice that received intraperitoneal injections of saline, CDDP, CDDP+ 4-PBA and CDDP+ 3-MA were assayed by immunofluorescence, hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining for follicle counting, and terminal-deoxynucleotidyltransferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining for cell apoptosis assay. The plasma hormone levels were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit. Results We have clarified the relationships between ERS, autophagy, and apoptosis in CDDP-induced granulosa cell apoptosis, both in vitro and in vivo. Alleviating ERS by inhibiting HSPA5 and HSP90AB1 attenuated CDDP-induced autophagy and apoptosis. 4-PBA treatment significantly attenuated CDDP-induced cell autophagy and apoptosis in cultured KGN and COV434 cells. However, inhibiting cell autophagy with 3-MA negligibly restored the CDDP-induced changes in ERS and apoptosis. In vivo experiments also demonstrated that treatment with 4-PBA, but not 3-MA, prevented CDDP-induced ovarian damage and hormone dysregulation. Conclusions CDDP-induced ERS could promote autophagy and apoptosis in granulosa cells, causing excessive follicle loss and endocrine disorders. Alleviation of ERS with 4-PBA, but not of autophagy with 3-MA, protect against CDDP-induced granulosa cell apoptosis and ovarian damage. Thus, 4-PBA can be used to protect the ovary during chemotherapy in women.

Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5) is widely used as a preservative in the food and wine industry. However, it causes varying degrees of cellular damage to organisms. In order to improve our knowledge regarding its cyto-toxicity, a genome-wide screen using the yeast single deletion collection was performed. Additionally, a total of 162 Na2S2O5-sensitive strains and 16 Na2S2O5-tolerant strains were identified. Among the 162 Na2S2O5 tolerance-related genes, the retromer complex was the top enriched cellular component. Further analysis demonstrated that retromer complex deletion leads to increased sensitivity to Na2S2O5, and that Na2S2O5 can induce mislocalization of retromer complex proteins. Notably, phosphatidylinositol 3-monophosphate kinase (PI3K) complex II, which is important for retromer recruitment to the endosome, might be a potential regulator mediating retromer localization and the yeast Na2S2O5 tolerance response. Na2S2O5 can decrease the protein expressions of Vps34, which is the component of PI3K complex. Therefore, Na2S2O5-mediated retromer redistribution might be caused by the effects of decreased Vps34 expression levels. Moreover, both pharmaceutical inhibition of Vps34 functions and deletions of PI3K complex II-related genes affect cell tolerance to Na2S2O5. The results of our study provide a global picture of cellular components required for Na2S2O5 tolerance and advance our understanding concerning Na2S2O5-induced cytotoxicity effects.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), as an important economical vegetable, is often infected with Rhizoctonia solani, which results in a substantial reduction in production. Therefore, the molecular mechanism of biocontrol microorganisms assisting tomato to resist pathogens is worth exploring. Here, we use Bacillus amyloliquefaciens SN16-1 as biocontrol bacteria, and employed RNA-Seq technology to study tomato gene and defense-signaling pathways expression. Gene Ontology (GO) analyses showed that an oxidation-reduction process, peptidase regulator activity, and oxidoreductase activity were predominant. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses showed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, aldosterone synthesis and secretion, and phototransduction were significantly enriched. SN16-1 activated defenses in the tomato via systemic-acquired resistance (which depends on the salicylic acid signaling pathway), rather than classic induction of systemic resistance. The genes induced by SN16-1 included transcription factors, plant hormones (ethylene, auxin, abscisic acid, and gibberellin), receptor-like kinases, heat shock proteins, and defense proteins. SN16-1 rarely activated pathogenesis-related proteins, but most pathogenesis-related proteins were induced in the presence of the pathogens. In addition, the molecular mechanisms of the response of tomatoes to SN16-1 and R. solani RS520 were significantly different.

Soil is an important natural resource. The excessive amount of heavy metals in soil can harm and threaten human health. Therefore, monitoring of soil heavy metal content is urgent. Monitoring soil heavy metals by traditional methods requires many human and material resources. Remote sensing has shown advantages in the field of monitoring heavy metals. Based on 971 heavy metal samples and Sentinel-2 multi-spectral images in Tai Lake, China, we analyzed the correlation between six heavy metals (Cd, Hg, As, Pb, Cu, Zn) and spectral factors, and selected As and Hg as the input factors of inversion model. The correlation coefficient of the best model of As was 0.53 (p < 0.01), and of Hg was 0.318 (p < 0.01). We used the methods of partial least squares regression (PLSR) and back propagation neural network (BPNN) to establish inversion models with different combinations of spectral factors by using 649 measured samples. In addition, 322 measured samples were used for accuracy evaluation. Compared with the PLSR model, the BP neural network builds the model with higher accuracy, and B1-B4 combined with LnB1-LnB4 builds the model with the highest accuracy. The accuracy of the best model was verified, with an average error of 19% for As and 45% for Hg. Analyzing the spatial distribution of heavy metals by using the interpolation method of Kriging and IDW. The overall distribution trend of the two interpolations is similar. The concentration of As elements tends to increase from north to south, and the relatively high value of Hg elements is distributed in the east and west of the study area. The factories in the study area are distributed along rivers and lakes, which is consistent with the spatial distribution of heavy metal enrichment areas. The relatively high-value areas of heavy metal elements are related to the distribution of metal products factories, refractory porcelain factories, tile factories, factories and mining enterprises, etc., indicating that factory pollution is the main reason for the enrichment of heavy metals.

In the present study, 8 mm-thick 5251 aluminum alloy was self-reacting friction stir welded (SRFSW) employing an optimized friction stir tool to analyze the effect of welding speed from 150 to 450 mm/min on the microstructure and mechanical properties at a constant rotation speed of 400 rpm. The results indicated that high-quality surface finish and defect-free joints were successfully obtained under suitable process parameters. The microhardness distribution profiles on the transverse section of joint exhibited a typical “W” pattern. The lowest hardness values located at the heat-affected zone (HAZ) and the width of the softened region decreased with increasing welding speed. The tensile strength significantly decreased due to the void defect, which showed mixed fracture characteristics induced by the decreasing welding speed. The average tensile strength and elongation achieved by the SRFSW process were 242.61 MPa and 8.3% with optimal welding conditions, and the fracture surface exhibited a typical toughness fracture mode.

Abstract Background Chronic heart failure (CHF), the final stage of various cardiovascular diseases, is a major public health problem resulting in significant hospitalization rates, mortality, and huge health care costs despite advances in the treatment and management of heart failure and heart failure-related risk factors. Qishen granules (QSG), a Chinese herbal formula, is widely used by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practitioners to treat CHF. Several animal experimental studies have showed that QSG can significantly relieve the heart failure symptoms in CHF rat models. However, there is as yet no standard clinical trial to confirm this. Thus, the investigators are conducting this study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of QSG in a large, and varied population. Methods/design This study is designed as a randomized, placebo-controlled, multi-center, double-blind clinical trial with parallel groups. A total of 200 patients with CHF will be recruited and randomly allocated to either the QSG treatment group or the placebo group (in a 1:1 ratio). The patients will receive QSG or placebo granules twice a day for 12 weeks. The primary outcome is the proportion of patients in the QSG group, compared with the placebo group, demonstrating a more than 30% decrease in NT-proBNP level during 12 weeks of treatment. The secondary outcomes consist of composite cardiac events, New York Heart Association functional classification, 6-minute walking distance, left ventricular ejection fraction, patient quality of life, and the TCM syndrome integral scale. Discussion On a background of standard treatment, QSG may further reduce the levels of NT-proBNP. This trial will provide high-quality evidence on the efficacy and safety of QSG in treating CHF, thus providing reference for clinical application of QSG. Abstract Background Cancer cells show increased glycolysis and take advantage of this metabolic pathway to generate ATP. The TP53-induced glycolysis and apoptosis regulator (TIGAR) inhibits aerobic glycolysis and protects tumor cells from intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS)-associated apoptosis. However, the function of TIGAR in glycolysis and survival of acute myeloid leukemia cells remains unclear. Methods We analyzed TIGAR expression in cytogenetically normal (CN-) AML patients and the correlations with clinical and biological parameters. In vivo and in vitro, we tested whether glycolysis may induce TIGAR expression and evaluated the combination effect of glycolysis inhibitor and TIGAR knockdown on human leukemia cell proliferation. Results High TIGAR expression was an independent predictor of poor survival and high incidence of relapse in adult patients with CN-AML. TIGAR also showed high expression in multiple human leukemia cell lines and knockdown of TIGAR activated glycolysis through PFKFB3 upregulation in human leukemia cells. Knockdown of TIGAR inhibited the proliferation of human leukemia cells and sensitized leukemia cells to glycolysis inhibitor both in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, TIGAR knockdown in combination with glycolysis inhibitor 2-DG led leukemia cells to apoptosis. In addition, the p53 activator Nutlin-3α showed a significant combinational effect with TIGAR knockdown in leukemia cells. However, TIGAR expression and its anti-apoptotic effects were uncoupled from overexpression of exogenous p53 in leukemia cells. Conclusions TIGAR might be a predictor of poor survival and high incidence of relapse in AML patients, and the combination of TIGAR inhibitors with anti-glycolytic agents may be novel therapies for the future clinical use in AML patients.

In this study, 2A14-T4 Al-alloy T-joints were prepared via stationary shoulder friction stir welding (SSFSW) technology where the stirring pin’s rotation speed was set as different values. In combination with the numerical simulation results, the macro-forming, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the joints under different welding conditions were analyzed. The results show that the thermal cycle curves in the SSFSW process are featured by a steep climb and slow decreasing variation trends. As the stirring pin’s rotation speed increased, the grooves on the weld surface became more obvious. The base and rib plates exhibit W- or N-shaped hardness distribution patterns. The hardness of the weld nugget zone (WNZ) was high but was lower than that of the base material. The second weld’s annealing effect contributed to the precipitation and coarsening of the precipitated phase in the first weld nugget zone (WNZ1). The hardness of the heat affect zone (HAZ) in the vicinity of the thermo-mechanically affected zone (TMAZ) dropped to the minimum. As the stirring pin's rotation speed increased, the tensile strengths of the base and rib plates first increased and then dropped. The base and rib plates exhibited ductile and brittle/ductile fracture patterns, respectively.

Lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) is one of the leading electrolytes in lithium-ion batteries, and its usage has increased tremendously in the past few years. Little is known, however, about its potential environmental and biological impacts. In order to improve our understanding of the cytotoxicity of LiPF6 and the specific cellular response mechanisms to it, we performed a genome-wide screen using a yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) deletion mutant collection and identified 75 gene deletion mutants that showed LiPF6 sensitivity. Among these, genes associated with mitochondria showed the most enrichment. We also found that LiPF6 is more toxic to yeast than lithium chloride (LiCl) or sodium hexafluorophosphate (NaPF6). Physiological analysis showed that a high concentration of LiPF6 caused mitochondrial damage, reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and ATP content changes. Compared with the results of previous genome-wide screening for LiCl-sensitive mutants, we found that oxidative phosphorylation-related mutants were specifically hypersensitive to LiPF6. In these deletion mutants, LiPF6 treatment resulted in higher ROS production and reduced ATP levels, suggesting that oxidative phosphorylation-related genes were important for counteracting LiPF6-induced toxicity. Taken together, our results identified genes specifically involved in LiPF6-modulated toxicity, and demonstrated that oxidative stress and ATP imbalance maybe the driving factors in governing LiPF6-induced toxicity.

In this study, the role of twist on the tensile and frictional characteristics of aramid filament yarns (AFYs) were systematically studied. The results revealed that the twist is incredibly crucial in optimizing the final properties of AFYs. It was found that the extension at break and the initial modulus had a high rise with the increase of the twist angle. Furthermore, an optimum twist value provided the maximum breaking strength of AFYs. Meanwhile, breaking strength emerged the tendency of enhancement firstly and then descended continuously till to the fracture of AFYs. In addition, it was inferred that the larger the twist angle, the more sharply the aramid filaments were drafted. In conclusion, if reasonably controlled, AFYs will emerge better tensile capability in axial direction, which are significant in actual industry use, especially in the field that sustained destructive power and constant friction.

Two different methods of simulating iron contamination in a laboratory were studied. The catalysts were characterized using X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption–desorption, and SEM-EDS. The catalyst performance was evaluated using an advanced cracking evaluation device. It was found that iron was evenly distributed in the catalyst prepared using the Mitchell impregnation method and no obvious iron nodules were found on the surface of the catalyst. Iron on the impregnated catalyst led to a strong dehydrogenation capacity and a slight decrease in the conversion and bottoms selectivity. The studies also showed that iron was mainly in the range of 1–5 μm from the edge of the catalyst prepared using the cycle deactivation method. Iron nodules could be easily observed on the surface of the catalyst. The retention of the surface structure in the alumina-rich areas and the collapse of the surface structure in the silica-rich areas resulted in a continuous nodule morphology, which was similar to the highly iron-contaminated equilibrium catalyst. Iron nodules on the cyclic-deactivated catalyst led to a significant decrease in conversion, an extremely high bottoms yield, and a small increase in the dehydrogenation capacity. The nodules and distribution of iron on the equilibrium catalyst could be better simulated by using the cyclic deactivation method.
