Community-based healthcare is a promising approach to tackling workforce shortage in healthcare, especially in the global south. Community health workers (CHWs) are lay cadres that bridge healthcare disparities by living in the community where they should provide basic health services, mainly through education. However, high attrition rates and underperformance of these health workers limit the scope of such programs. In addition, mobile health is not the hoped-for silver bullet to solve the two challenges. This paper examines two pilot projects using mobile health for non-communicable disease care from an empowerment perspective. We propose design knowledge of mobile health for the structural empowerment of CHWs. Furthermore, we evaluate their psychological empowerment by analyzing mobile health's intended and unintended consequences. Finally, our study demonstrates how empowering CHWs could help overcome the persisting challenges and lead to a sustainable and resilient health system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tuberculosis remains one of the most significant burdens for resource-constrained environments with limited healthcare supply, such as the Global South. However, factors such as the adoption of mobile phones create a favorable environment for mobile health technology, yielding a promising avenue for the development of the Global South through digital innovation. Previous studies, however, have not provided a comprehensive assessment of available tuberculosis applications and their features. To bridge this gap, we conducted a systematic review of existing tuberculosis applications to gain a deeper understanding of the current landscape. Our findings indicate that current tuberculosis apps have significant limitations, such as requiring an internet connection or being available in only one language. Our study contributes to extant research by presenting the first systematic analysis of tuberculosis applications and provides practical insights by highlighting areas of improvement that should be addressed in future app development. A new generation of information systems based on artificial intelligence (AI) transforms the way we work. However, existing research on human-AI collaboration is scattered across disciplines, highlighting the need for more transparency about the design of human-AI collaboration in organizational contexts. This paper addresses this gap by reviewing the literature on human-AI collaboration through the lens of human teamwork. Our results provide insights into how emerging topics of human-AI collaboration are connected and influence each other. In particular, the review indicates that, with the increasing complexity of organizational settings, human-AI collaboration needs to be designed differently, and team maintenance activities become more important due to increased communicational requirements of humans. Our main contribution is a novel framework of temporal phases in human-AI collaboration, identifying the mechanisms that need to be considered when designing them for organizational contexts. Artificial intelligence (AI) creates a new frontier of information systems, ready to be utilized by organizations. However, AI is yet to be implemented across workplaces to automate tasks and to save costs. A crucial success factor to achieve this, is the correct delegation of tasks to AI by considering the individual fit of humans, tasks, and AI. Previous literature focused on tasks’ characteristics that influence the delegation decision. We argue that the effect of personal factors, such as the own involvement in the task (psychological distance) and a person’s attitude towards AI affect the delegation as well. We examined these effects during an experiment (n=211). Our results indicate both factors strongly affect the predictors of AI task delegation. Our findings underline the importance of underlying personal factors for the decision and imply that the persons deciding whether a task shall be delegated to AI or not should be carefully chosen. With the growing diffusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a variety of novel ethical challenges become apparent. As a possible solution, the field of Ethical AI (EAI), the conviction, that to build trust in AI, ethical guidelines must be enforced, is gaining popularity. The importance of such guidelines has been recognized by regulatory institutions like the European Commission and led to the ‘Artificial Intelligence Act’, a legal framework to achieve EAI. In view of the growing importance of EAI and its implications for how societies interact with AI, it remains unclear to which extent information systems (IS) literature, socio-technical by its nature, can contribute to EAI. This article’s contribution is threefold: It provides an explanation of the AI Act, introduces a systematic analysis of current IS literature on EAI, and derives future research directions for aspects of EAI which are currently insufficiently covered by IS scholars. Data breaches have become a daily problem and cause immense damage to the affected companies in their customer relationship with the impacted customers. Research has shown that this effect can be positively influenced by applying response strategies. Our study focuses on three main actions that can be identified from data breach response strategies: an apology for the incident, the visibility of the CEO, and high readability of the message. To investigate the impact on transnational and cumulative customer satisfaction, a scenario-based experiment was conducted with 567 participants. Our results show that all three actions have a strong positive effect on transaction satisfaction. Moreover, these response actions have a positive effect on cumulative satisfaction, although the effects are not as strong. Finally, the results are discussed in the context of justice theory and situational crisis communication theory, and practical implications, limitations, and possible future research options are derived. The digitization of corporate processes and activities, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, does not only hold advantages. Rapidly implemented software systems lead to an increased risk of data breaches, inducing adverse effects. As a countermeasure, companies can apply data breach response actions. In this paper, drawing on service failure literature and justice theory, we examine how companies' actual response actions affect customers' justice perceptions. By conducting a scenario-based experiment, we investigate how response action can be differentiated through the perception of the three dimensions of justice theory. The results suggest that for some response actions previous findings from service failure recovery are transferable. Our results indicate that distributive and procedural justice can be influenced by corporate response actions. However, the effects on interactional justice appear to be limited. The increasing application of Conversational Agents (CAs) is rapidly changing the way customers access services. In practice, however, CAs are frequently flawed, such as they often misinterpreting users' requests. Even through future advancements in technology, it remains unlikely that a CA will be flawless and error-free. Thus, understanding how to design CAs so that users are more willing to overlook errors constitutes an important area of research. In this regard, our study positions the human-like design of CAs as a potential way to ensure service satisfaction when errors occur. We examined the effect of human-like designed flawed CAs by conducting a two-condition experiment with 421 participants, analyzing its effect on users' emotional state and service satisfaction. Our results show that the human-like design of flawed CAs leads to more positive emotions, which improve users' service satisfaction. Conversational Agents (CAs) are becoming part of our everyday lives, whether in the form of voice assistants (such as Siri or Alexa) or as chatbots (for instance, on Facebook). When looking at CAs, users frequently start to display aggressive behavior towards CAs, such as insulting it. However, why some users tend to harass CAs and how this behavior can be explained remains unclear. We conducted a two-conditions online experiment with 201 participants on the interrelation of human-like design, dissatisfaction, frustration, and aggression to address this circumstance. The results reveal that frustration drives aggression. Specifically, users with high impulsivity tend to severely insult a CA when it makes an error. To prevent such behavior, our results indicate that human-like design of CA reduces dissatisfaction, which is a driver of frustration. However, we also discovered that human-like design directly increases frustration, making it a double-edged sword that has to be further investigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Global climate change is one of the most pressing matters needing to be addressed by the worldwide community. The deployment of electric vehicles in logistical fleets offers a promising approach to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, organizations barely adopt this technology. Thus, this study aims to understand the factors that enable and hinder the innovation adoption process. In this context, we focus on the perceived characteristics of the electrified fleet as an innovation and on the characteristics of the organizations as the adopters of the innovation. Our study conducted semi-structured interviews to assess and gain a comprehensive understanding of the influencing factors. The preliminary results suggest that the relevant characteristics of the decision-making unit such as corporate reputation, EV action radius requirements, and driving forces in the organization have positive and negative effects on the perceived characteristics of the innovation, which are cost of ownership, technical requirements, and environmental superiority. This study addresses the issue of non-communicable diseases (NCD) in decentralized healthcare in developing countries (e.g. in eSwatini). Countries relying on decentralized healthcare employ community health workers (CHW) to provide healthcare to their inhabitants. Although relying on CHWs as a solution to supply healthcare and to substitute for the insufficient healthcare infrastructure, certain issues arise due to the lack of experience and education. For instance, providing NCD care requires medical equipment and specific knowledge, which will not be provided for CHWs. To tackle this problem, this study addresses the implementation of a mobile application that supports CHW in their daily NCD care and counseling. Through an action design research approach, the application is iteratively developed based on the evaluation of healthcare experts, policymakers (e.g., the ministry of health) and tested by potential users. This study is expected to provide not only tangible utility through the instantiation and use of the application, but also to provide extensive knowledge on how to design applications in other instances of NCD care in developing countries with decentralized healthcare systems to pursue the goal of the long-term health and social impact. The increasing number of mobile devices and their interconnection, the amount of shared data and the risk of data loss increases. An example of this is fitness trackers, which collect a large amount of personal data and share it with other devices and platforms. Due to the high-risk potential, data breaches can have far-reaching impacts on the business and the consumer. By applying recovery actions after a data breach, a company can be able to mitigate the negative impact on market conditions and customer outcomes. Previous consumer behavior in the event of a data breach shows that affected parties often terminate their relationship with the company. In an attempt to avoid such adverse customer reactions, organizations increasingly employ recovery strategies such as they apologize to the customers or they offer product-related compensation. The aim is to retain trust, customer loyalty, word of mouth. Our study examines the effectiveness of different recovery strategies through an experimental investigation. The research model is informed by two theoretical lenses, i.e. expectation-confirmation theory and the justice theory. Our results show the impact of data breach recovery actions on customer outcomes. It was found that the selected recovery strategies have a positive influence on the confirmation. Incidents of security breaches have increased and caused immense damage, affecting the stock price. Data breaches are particularly problematic as they have fatal consequences on customer relations. By applying recovery actions after a data breach, a company is able to mitigate these consequences. However, there is a controversy: The recovery actions offered to customers are perceived differently by the company's investors. While customer loyalty can be maintained, the value of the company's stock is damaged. This study examines this controversy through an event study. Real response strategies to data breaches are coded and their effects on investor behavior are examined on the basis of stock value. The results show that apologizing a data breach has harmful effects on investor behavior. The opposite might occur if the response is whitewashed. Companies around the world are faced with challenges in dealing with data breaches. While in Germany companies need to notify the affected and fear to lose their valuable customers, in Bolivia, where rapid digital globalization increases vulnerability, data security overall is not a publicly present topic, and customers are directly exposed to the consequences of security incidents. Our study examines the cultural difference in addressing the digital challenge of recovering from data breaches. We investigate through a scenario-based experiment the effect of compensation and remorse on the customer-company relationship. Our results show that German customers are more likely to demand compensation for a data breach as a recovery action, whereas Bolivian customers are satisfied with an apology. We discuss this finding in the context of crosscultural values and practical implications for countries that are currently undergoing a rapid rise in technology and are therefore exposed to substantial security risks. The goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission plays a virtual role in the logistics sector. The shift from conventional fuel-powered vehicles to electric vehicles is one possible step for a sustainable transformation in this area. This also applies in the context of container terminals, where heavy-duty vehicles are essential for container transportation. Through the use of information systems, this field is a promising area for smart grid application. Against this background, the batteries of the free vehicles can be used during less busy times to provide capacities for the energy grid. The need for control reserves has increased with the integration of renewable energy sources, which are not able to provide stable grid frequency.
