We study double eigenvalues of Aharonov-Bohm operators with Dirichlet boundary conditions in planar domains containing the origin. We focus on the behavior of double eigenvalues when the potential's circulation is a fixed half-integer number and the operator's pole is moving on straight lines in a neighborhood of the origin. We prove that bifurcation occurs if the pole is moving along straight lines in a certain number of cones with positive measure. More precise information is given for symmetric domains; in particular, in the special case of the disk, any eigenvalue is double if the pole is located at the centre, but there exists a whole neighborhood where it bifurcates into two distinct branches.

This paper deals with quantitative spectral stability for Aharonov-Bohm operators with many colliding poles of whichever circulation. An equivalent formulation of the eigenvalue problem is derived as a system of two equations with real coefficients, coupled through prescribed jumps of the unknowns and their normal derivatives across the segments joining the poles with the collision point. Under the assumption that the sum of all circulations is not integer, the dominant term in the asymptotic expansion for eigenvalues is characterized in terms of the minimum of an energy functional associated with the configuration of poles. Estimates of the order of vanishing of the eigenvalue variation are then deduced from a blow-up analysis, yielding sharp asymptotics in some particular examples.

We provide fine asymptotics of solutions of fractional elliptic equations at boundary points where the domain is locally conical; that is, corner type singularities appear. Our method relies on a suitable smoothing of the corner singularity and an approximation scheme, which allow us to provide a Pohozaev type inequality. Then, the asymptotics of solutions at the conical point follow by an Almgren type monotonicity formula, blow-up analysis and Fourier decomposition on eigenspaces of a spherical eigenvalue problem. The aim of the present paper is to investigate the behavior of the spectrum of the Neumann Laplacian in domains with little holes excised from the interior. More precisely, we consider the eigenvalues of the Laplacian with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions on a bounded, Lipschitz domain. Then, we singularly perturb the domain by removing Lipschitz sets which are "small" in a suitable sense and satisfy a uniform extension property. In this context, we provide an asymptotic expansion for all the eigenvalues of the perturbed problem which are converging to simple eigenvalues of the limit one. The eigenvalue variation turns out to depend on a geometric quantity resembling the notion of (boundary) torsional rigidity: understanding this fact is one of the main contributions of the present paper. In the particular case of a hole shrinking to a point, through a fine blow-up analysis, we identify the exact vanishing order of such a quantity and we establish some connections between the location of the hole and the sign of the eigenvalue variation.

The behavior of simple eigenvalues of Aharonov-Bohm operators with many coalescing poles is discussed. In the case of half-integer circulation, a gauge transformation makes the problem equivalent to an eigenvalue problem for the Laplacian in a domain with straight cracks, laying along the moving directions of poles. For this problem, we obtain an asymptotic expansion for eigenvalues, in which the dominant term is related to the minimum of an energy functional associated with the configuration of poles and defined on a space of functions suitably jumping through the cracks. Concerning configurations with an odd number of poles, an accurate blow-up analysis identifies the exact asymptotic behaviour of eigenvalues and the sign of the variation in some cases. We investigate unique continuation properties and asymptotic behaviour at boundary points for solutions to a class of elliptic equations involving the spectral fractional Laplacian. An extension procedure leads us to study a degenerate or singular equation on a cylinder, with a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition on the lateral surface and a non homogeneous Neumann condition on the basis. For the extended problem, by an Almgren-type monotonicity formula and a blow-up analysis, we classify the local asymptotic profiles at the edge where the transition between boundary conditions occurs. Passing to traces, an analogous blow-up result and its consequent strong unique continuation property is deduced for the nonlocal fractional equation.

We study singular perturbations of eigenvalues of the polyharmonic operator on bounded domains under removal of small interior compact sets. We consider both homogeneous Dirichlet and Navier conditions on the external boundary, while we impose homogeneous Dirichlet conditions on the boundary of the removed set. To this aim, we develop a notion of capacity which is suitable for our higher-order context, and which permits to obtain a description of the asymptotic behaviour of perturbed simple eigenvalues in terms of a capacity of the removed set, in dependence of the respective normalized eigenfunction. Then, in the particular case of a subset which is scaling to a point, we apply a blow-up analysis to detect the precise convergence rate, which turns out to depend on the order of vanishing of the eigenfunction. In this respect, an important role is played by Hardy-Rellich inequalities in order to identify the appropriate functional space containing the limiting profile. Remarkably, for the biharmonic operator this turns out to be the same, regardless of the boundary conditions prescribed on the exterior boundary.

Sobolev-type regularity results are proved for solutions to a class of second order elliptic equations with a singular or degenerate weight, under non-homogeneous Neumann conditions. As an application a Pohozaev-type identity for weak solutions is derived., Comment: 14 pages

We derive local asymptotics of solutions to second order elliptic equations at the edge of a $(N-1)$-dimensional crack, with homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions prescribed on both sides of the crack. A combination of blow-up analysis and monotonicity arguments provides a classification of all possible asymptotic homogeneities of solutions at the crack's tip, together with a a strong unique continuation principle.

In this work we develop an Almgren type monotonicity formula for a class of elliptic equations in a domain with a crack, in the presence of potentials satisfying either a negligibility condition with respect to the inverse-square weight or some suitable integrability properties. The study of the Almgren frequency function around a point on the edge of the crack, where the domain is highly non-smooth, requires the use of an approximation argument, based on the construction of a sequence of regular sets which approximate the cracked domain. In this work we consider the homogeneous Neumann eigenvalue problem for the Laplacian on a bounded Lipschitz domain and a singular perturbation of it, which consists in prescribing zero Dirichlet boundary conditions on a small subset of the boundary. We first describe the sharp asymptotic behaviour of a perturbed eigenvalue, in the case in which it is converging to a simple eigenvalue of the limit Neumann problem. The first term in the asymptotic expansion turns out to depend on the Sobolev capacity of the subset where the perturbed eigenfunction is vanishing. Then we focus on the case of Dirichlet boundary conditions imposed on a subset which is scaling to a point; by a blow-up analysis for the capacitary potentials, we detect the vanishing order of the Sobolev capacity of such shrinking Dirichlet boundary portion., Comment: 27 pages

In this work we investigate positivity properties of nonlocal Schr\"odinger type operators, driven by the fractional Laplacian, with multipolar, critical, and locally homogeneous potentials. On one hand, we develop a criterion that links the positivity of the spectrum of such operators with the existence of certain positive supersolutions, while, on the other hand, we study the localization of binding for this kind of potentials. Combining these two tools and performing an inductive procedure on the number of poles, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a configuration of poles that ensures the positivity of the corresponding Schr\"odinger operator.

We consider an elliptic equation in a cone, endowed with (possibly inhomogeneous) Neumann conditions. The operator and the forcing terms can also allow non-Lipschitz singularities at the vertex of the cone. In this setting, we provide unique continuation results, both in terms of interior and boundary points. The proof relies on a suitable Almgren-type frequency formula with remainders. As a byproduct, we obtain classification results for blow-up limits.

We consider the eigenvalue problem for the restricted fractional Laplacian in a bounded domain with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We introduce the notion of fractional capacity for compact subsets, with the property that the eigenvalues are not affected by the removal of zero fractional capacity sets. Given a simple eigenvalue, we remove from the domain a family of compact sets which are concentrating to a set of zero fractional capacity and we detect the asymptotic expansion of the eigenvalue variation; this expansion depends on the eigenfunction associated to the limit eigenvalue. Consider two domains connected by a thin tube: it can be shown that the resolvent of the Dirichlet Laplacian is continuous with respect to the channel section parameter. This in particular implies the continuity of isolated simple eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions with respect to domain perturbation. Under an explicit nondegeneracy condition, we improve this information providing a sharp control of the rate of convergence of the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions in the perturbed domain to the relative eigenvalue and eigenfunction in the limit domain. As an application, we prove that, again under an explicit nondegeneracy con- dition, the case of resonant domains features polinomial splitting of the two eigenvalues and a clear bifurcation of eigenfunctions.

In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to an elliptic equation near the singularity of an inverse square potential with a coefficient related to the best constant for the Hardy inequality. Due to the presence of a borderline Hardy potential, a proper variational setting has to be introduced in order to provide a weak formulation of the equation. Consider two domains connected by a thin tube: it can be shown that, generically, the mass of a given eigenfunction of the Dirichlet Laplacian concentrates in only one of them. The restriction to the other domain, when suitably normalized, develops a singularity at the junction of the tube, as the channel section tends to zero. Our main result states that, under a nondegeneracy condition, the normalized limiting profile has a singularity of order N-1, where N is the space dimension. We give a precise description of the asymptotic behavior of eigenfunctions at the singular junction, which provides us with some important information about its sign near the tunnel entrance. More precisely, the solution is shown to be one-sign in a neighborhood of the singular junction. In other words, we prove that the nodal set does not enter inside the channel., Comment: 48 pages

A monotonicity approach to the study of the asymptotic behavior near corners of solutions to semilinear elliptic equations in domains with a conical boundary point is discussed. The presence of logarithms in the first term of the asymptotic expansion is excluded for boundary profiles sufficiently close to straight conical surfaces.
