This article presents views of the author on the benefits of practice-based commissioning (PBC) for nurses in Great Britain. There is a myth doing the rounds amongst the nursing profession that only general practitioners (GPs) can become involved in the government's new drive to allow frontline British National Health Service staff to redesign services. Like GPs, nurses are in an ideal position to shape services that best meet the needs of local patients. The most pressing issue is that nurses lack information about PBC. PBC is all about enabling frontline primary care staff, including nurses, to make more decisions about patient care.
