Abstract

We present observational evidence of the impact of triaxiality on radial profiles that extend to 40 Mpc from galaxy cluster centres in optical measurements. We perform a stacked profile analysis from a sample of thousands of nearly relaxed galaxy clusters from public data releases of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS). Using the central galaxy elliptical orientation angle as a proxy for galaxy cluster orientation, we measure cluster weak lensing and excess galaxy density axis-aligned profiles, extracted along the central galaxy's major or minor axes on the plane-of-the-sky. Our measurements show a $\gtrsim2-3\sigma$ difference per radial bin between the normalized axis-aligned profiles. The profile difference between each axis-aligned profile and the azimuthally averaged profile ($\sim\pm10-20\%$ along major/minor axis) appears inside the clusters ($\sim0.4$ Mpc) and extends to the large-scale structure regime ($\sim10-20$ Mpc). The magnitude of the difference appears to be relatively insensitive to cluster richness and redshift, and extends further out in the weak lensing surface mass density than in the galaxy overdensity. Looking forward, this measurement can easily be applied to other observational or simulation datasets and can inform the systematics in cluster mass modeling related to triaxiality. We expect imminent upcoming wide-area deep surveys, such as the Vera C. Abstract

The Solar Wind ANisotropies (SWAN) all-sky hydrogen Lyman-alpha camera on the SOlar and Heliosphere Observer (SOHO) satellite makes daily images of the entire sky to monitor the three-dimensional distribution of solar wind and solar radiation via its imprint on the stream of interstellar hydrogen that flows through the solar system. In the process it also records the distribution of the hydrogen comae of comets. We report here the analyses of six comets originally from the Oort Cloud observed during the 2017-2020 period by SWAN: C/2015 V2 (Johnson), C/2019 Y1 (ATLAS), C/2017 T2 (PanSTARRS), C/2020 F8 (SWAN), C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS), and C/2019 U6 (Lemmon). Of these the nuclei of C/2019 Y4 (ATLAS) and C/2020 F8 (SWAN) both broke up on their inbound orbit before perihelion. The water production rates over the detectable portion of each comet's orbit are determined and discussed in light of the comet's dynamical sub-class of Oort Cloud comets., Comment: 42 pages, 8 figures

Abstract

In 1985 Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner was the first comet visited by a spacecraft, the International Cometary Explorer (ICE) satellite, several months before the armada of Halley spacecraft had their encounters in 1986. ICE was originally the ISEE-3 satellite, designed for magnetospheric measurements near the Earth, and was diverted via a lunar gravity assist to pass through the plasma tail of the comet. The comet has been observed by the all-sky hydrogen Lyman-alpha Solar Wind Anisotropies (SWAN) camera on the SOlar and Heliospheric Observatory satellite during its last four apparitions in 1998, 2005, 2012 and 2018. This paper compares water production rates calculated from the hydrogen images from the 1998 and 2005 results, published by Combi et al. (2011), with new observations from 2012 and 2018. Unlike some comets that have faded over time, except for 2 outbursts seen in the 2012 results, the activity levels for Comet 21P have not changed consistently over time. A power-law fit to the pre-perihelion water production rate vs. heliocentric distance for all four apparitions gives a result of 3.75x10^28 x r^-0.28+/-0.4, and that for the post-perihelion production rate, discounting 2012 data dominated by outbursts, gives 4.15 x 10^28 x r^-10.2+/-0.9. Abstract

AimsEnhanced sympathetic activity during acute ischaemia is arrhythmogenic, but the underlying mechanism is unknown. During ischaemia, a diastolic current flows from the ischaemic to the non-ischaemic myocardium. This 'injury' current can cause ventricular premature beats (VPBs) originating in the non-ischaemic myocardium, especially during a deeply negative T wave in the ischaemic zone. We reasoned that shortening of repolarization in myocardium adjacent to ischaemic myocardium increases the 'injury' current and causes earlier deeply negative T waves in the ischaemic zone, and re-excitation of the normal myocardium. We tested this hypothesis by activation and repolarization mapping during stimulation of the left stellate ganglion (LSG) during left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) occlusion.Methods and resultsIn nine pigs, five subsequent episodes of acute ischaemia, separated by 20 min of reperfusion, were produced by occlusion of the LAD and 121 epicardial local unipolar electrograms were recorded. During the third occlusion, left stellate ganglion stimulation (LSGS) was initiated after 3 min for a 30-s period, causing a shortening of repolarization in the normal myocardium by about 100 ms. This resulted in more negative T waves in the ischaemic zone and more VPBs than during the second, control, occlusion. Following the decentralization of the LSG (including removal of the right stellate ganglion and bilateral cervical vagotomy), fewer VPBs occurred during ischaemia without LSGS. During LSGS, the number of VPBs was similar to that recorded before decentralization.ConclusionLSGS, by virtue of shortening of repolarization in the non-ischaemic myocardium by about 100 ms, causes deeply negative T waves in the ischaemic tissue and VPBs originating from the normal tissue adjacent to the ischaemic border.

Abstract

BackgroundDispersion in ventricular repolarization is relevant for arrhythmogenesis.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to determine the spatiotemporal effects of sympathetic stimulation on ventricular repolarization.MethodsIn 5 anesthetized female open-chest pigs, ventricular repolarization was measured from the anterior, lateral, and posterior walls of the left ventricle (LV) and right ventricle using up to 40 transmural plunge needles (4 electrodes each) before and after left stellate ganglion stimulation (LSGS) and right stellate ganglion stimulation. In addition, LSGS was performed in 3 pigs (2 male, 1 female) before and after verapamil (5-10 mg/h) administration.ResultsLSGS yielded a biphasic response in repolarization in the lateral and posterior walls of the LV, with prolongation at ∼5 seconds (10 ± 1.5 ms) and shortening at 20-30 seconds of stimulation (-28.9 ± 4.4 ms) during a monotonic pressure increase. While the initial prolongation was abolished by verapamil, late shortening was augmented. Sequential transections of the vagal nerve and stellate ganglia augmented repolarization dispersion responses to LSGS in 2 of 5 hearts. An equal pressure increase by aortic occlusion resulted in a homogeneous shortening of repolarization in the LV, and the effects were smaller than those during LSGS. Right stellate stimulation shortened repolarization mainly in the anterior LV wall, but the effects were smaller than those of LSGS.ConclusionLSGS first prolongs (through the L-type calcium current) and then shortens repolarization. The effect of LSGS was prominent in the posterior and lateral, not the anterior, LV walls.

19. The Diagnostic Value of ECG Characteristics for Vasospastic and Microvascular Angina: A Systematic Review.

Abstract

Background: Coronary vascular dysfunction comprises VSA and/or MVA and is more common in women than in men with angina without obstructive coronary artery disease (ANOCA). Invasive coronary function testing is considered the reference test for diagnosis, but its burden on patients is large. We aimed to investigate the potential of electrocardiography (ECG) as noninvasive marker for vasospastic angina (VSA) and microvascular angina (MVA) diagnosis. Methods: We systematically screened Pubmed and EMBASE databases for studies reporting on ECG characteristics in ANOCA patients with (a suspicion of) coronary vascular dysfunction. We assessed study quality using QUADAS‐2. We extracted data on diagnostic values of different ECG characteristics and analyzed whether the studies were sex‐stratified. Results: Thirty publications met our criteria, 13 reported on VSA and 17 on MVA. The majority addressed repolarization‐related ECG parameters. Only 1 of the 13 VSA papers and 4 of the 17 MVA papers showed diagnostic accuracy measures of the ECG characteristics. The presence of early repolarization, T‐wave alternans, and inverted U waves showed of predictive value for VSA diagnosis. The QTc interval was predictive for MVA diagnosis in all six studies reporting on QTc interval. Sex‐stratified results were reported in only 5 of the 30 studies and 3 of those observed sex‐based differences. Conclusions: ECG features are not widely evaluated in diagnostic studies for VSA and MVA. Those features predictive for VSA and MVA diagnosis mostly point to repolarization abnormalities and may contribute to noninvasive risk stratification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective Patients with sleep apnea (SA) are at increased cardiovascular risk. However, little is known about the risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in patients with SA. Therefore, we studied the relation between SA patients who did and did not receive continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy with OHCA in the general population. Methods Using nationwide databases, we conducted a nested case-control study with OHCA-cases of presumed cardiac causes and age/sex/OHCA-date matched non-OHCA-controls from the general population. Conditional logistic regression models with adjustments for well-known OHCA risk factors were performed to generate odds ratio (OR) of OHCA comparing patients with SA receiving and not receiving CPAP therapy with individuals without SA. Results We identified 46,578 OHCA-cases and 232,890 matched non-OHCA-controls [mean: 71 years, 68.8% men]. Compared to subjects without SA, having SA without CPAP therapy was associated with increased odds of OHCA after controlling for relevant confounders (OR:1.20, 95%-Cl:1.06–1.36), while having SA with CPAP therapy was not associated with OHCA (OR:1.04, 95%-Cl:0.93–1.36). Regardless of CPAP therapy, age and sex did not significantly influence our findings. Our findings were confirmed in: (I) patients with neither ischemic heart disease nor heart failure (untreated SA, OR:1.24, 95%-CI:1.04–1.47; SA with CPAP, OR:1.08, 95%-CI:0.93–1.25); and (II) in patients without cardiovascular disease (untreated SA, OR:1.33, 95%-CI:1.07–1.65; SA with CPAP, OR:1.14, 95%-CI:0.94–1.39). Conclusion SA not treated with CPAP was associated with OHCA, while no increased risk of OHCA was found for SA patients treated with CPAP. Aim Conflicting results have been reported regarding the association between fluoroquinolones (FQs) and the risk of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). In particular, it has not become clear whether OHCA in FQ users is related to the inherent comorbidities or whether there is a direct pro-arrhythmic effect of FQs. Therefore, we studied the relation between FQs and OHCA in the general population. Methods Through Danish nationwide registries, we conducted a nested case–control study with OHCA cases of presumed cardiac causes and age/sex/OHCA date-matched non-OHCA controls from the general population. Conditional logistic regression models with adjustments for well-known risk factors of OHCA were employed to estimate the OR with 95% CI of OHCA comparing FQs with amoxicillin. Results The study population consisted of 46 578 OHCA cases (mean: 71 years (SD: 14.40), 68.8% men) and 232 890 matched controls. FQ was used by 276 cases and 328 controls and conferred no increase in the odds of OHCA compared with amoxicillin use after controlling for the relevant confounders (OR: 0.91 (95% CI: 0.71 to 1.16)). The OR of OHCA associated with FQ use did not vary significantly by age (OR≤65: 0.96 (95% CI: 0.53 to 1.74), OR>65: 0.88 (95% CI: 0.67 to 1.16), p value interaction=0.7818), sex (ORmen: 0.96 (95% CI: 0.70 to 1.31), ORwomen: 0.80 (95% CI: 0.53 to 1.20), p value interaction=0.9698) and pre-existing cardiovascular disease (ORabsent: 1.02 (95% CI: 0.57 to 1.82), ORpresent: 0.98 (95% CI: 0.75 to 1.28), p value interaction=0.3884), including heart failure (ORabsent: 0.93 (95% CI: 0.72 to 1.22), ORpresent: 1.11 (95% CI: 0.61 to 2.02), p value interaction=0.7083) and ischaemic heart disease (ORabsent: 0.85 (95% CI: 0.64 to 1.12), ORpresent: 1.38 (95% CI: 0.86 to 2.21), p value interaction=0.6230). Abstract

We present observational evidence of the impact of triaxiality on radial profiles that extend to 40 Mpc from galaxy cluster centres in optical measurements. We perform a stacked profile analysis from a sample of thousands of nearly relaxed galaxy clusters from public data releases of the Dark Energy Survey and the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey. Using the central galaxy elliptical orientation angle as a proxy for galaxy cluster orientation, we measure cluster weak lensing and excess galaxy density axis-aligned profiles, extracted along the central galaxy's major or minor axes on the plane of the sky. Our measurements show a ≳ 2σ–3σ difference per radial bin between the normalized axis-aligned profiles. The profile difference between each axis-aligned profile and the azimuthally averaged profile (⁠|$\sim \pm 10\,\rm per\ cent-20~{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$| along major/minor axis) appears inside the clusters (∼0.4 Mpc) and extends to the large-scale structure regime (∼10–20 Mpc). The magnitude of the difference appears to be relatively insensitive to cluster richness and redshift, and extends further out in the weak lensing surface mass density than in the galaxy overdensity. Looking forward, this measurement can easily be applied to other observational or simulation data sets and can inform the systematics in cluster mass modelling related to triaxiality. We expect imminent upcoming wide-area deep surveys, such as the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time, to improve our quantification of optical signatures of cluster triaxiality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
