Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) were reported to be associated with mental disorders. But limited efforts were made to investigate the relationship between IBS/IBD and the risk of insomnia, especially from genetic perspective. Methods: Based on the UK Biobank cohort, we first calculated the polygenic risk scores (PRS) of IBS and IBD. Linear regression analyses were conducted to evaluate the association of IBS/IBD PRS with 7 sleep-related traits (N = 285,538-376,545), such as insomnia, short sleep. Genome-wide interaction study (GWIS) was performed to test the interacting effects of SNP × IBS PRS/Crohn's disease (CD) PRS on the risk of insomnia. Linkage disequilibrium score regression (LDSC) was performed to evaluate the genetic correlation between IBS/IBD and sleep-related traits by using genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data of IBS (N = 29,524), IBD (CD: N = 5,956; UC: N = 6,968) and sleep-related traits (N = 1,331,010). Results: For IBS, observational analyses showed that IBS PRS was significantly associated with insomnia (P = 2.37×10-2), short sleep (P = 2.49×10-2) and healthy sleep score (P = 9.95×10-4). LDSC identified significant genetic correlation of IBS and sleep-related traits, such as insomnia (P = 1.12×10-23). GWIS observed significant interaction effects of LTBP1 ´ IBS PRS for insomnia (rs184718843, P = 6.04×10-9). For IBD, we found an association between CD PRS and insomnia (P = 3.57×10-2). LDSC detected significant genetic correlation between CD and dozing (P = 1.20×10-3). For CD PRS, GWIS detected several suggestive interaction signals for insomnia, such as ANKRD30A (rs551207458, P = 7.10×10-7). Conclusion: Our results suggested that IBS and IBD were functionally related to insomnia, and reported several candidate genes interacting with IBS/IBD PRS for insomnia.

We aim to explore the combined effects of the smoking and breastfeeding on offspring mental health outcomes. We used data from UK biobank (N = 342,846) to evaluate joint effect of breastfeeding and maternal smoke during pregnancy (MSDP) on seven adult offspring mental health outcomes (self-reported depression, depression score, self-reported anxiety, anxiety score, neuroticism score, self-harm, suicide). We stratified individuals to MSDP group and non-MSDP group as well as breastfeeding group and non-breastfeeding group. Multiple linear regression and logistic regressions analysis were performed between independent variables (MSDP or breastfeeding) and dependent variables separately (seven mental health outcomes) in each stratum. Effect estimates were expressed as β values and OR values. Sex, age, 10 principle components of population structure, smoking, alcohol use, and Townsend deprivation index were examined as covariates. Limited studies have been conducted to explore the interaction effects of social environmental and genetic factors on the risks of common psychiatric disorders.56,613-106,695 individuals were collected from the UK Biobank cohort. Logistic or liner regression models were first used to evaluate the associations of index of multiple deprivation (IMD) with bipolar disorder (BD), depression and anxiety in UK Biobank cohort. Then, for the significant IMD associated with BD, depression and anxiety, genome-wide gene-environment interaction study (GWEIS) was performed by PLINK 2.0.Totally, the higher levels of IMD were significantly associated with higher risks of BD, depression and anxiety. For BD, GWEIS identified multiple significant SNPs interacting with IMD, such as rs75182167 for income and rs111841503 for education. For depression and anxiety, GWEIS found significant SNPs interacting with income and education, such as rs147013419 for income and rs142366753 for education.Social environmental deprivations contributed to the risks of psychiatric disorders. Besides, we reported multiple candidate genetic loci interacting with IMD, providing novel insights into the biological mechanism.

Aquaporins (AQPs) are channel proteins involved in transporting a variety of substrates. It has been proposed that the constriction regions in the central pores of the AQP channels play a crucial role in determining transport substrates and activities of AQPs. Our previous results suggest that AtNIP1;2, a member of the AQP superfamily in Arabidopsis, facilitates aluminum transport across the plasma membrane. However, the functions of the constriction regions in AtNIP1;2-mediated transport activities are unclear. This study reports that residue substitutions of the constriction regions affect AtNIP1;2-mediated aluminum uptake, demonstrating the critical roles of the constriction regions for transport activities. Furthermore, a constriction region that partially or wholly mimics AtNIP5;1, a demonstrated boric-acid transporter, could not render the boric-acid transport activity to AtNIP1;2. The development of web services and web APIs offers software developers great opportunities for choosing reliable services. However, the quality of these web services are often not available. Existing quality of web service prediction methods adopts the recommender system related techniques to predict the service quality. In these approaches, the behaviour of service invokers do not change. In reality, the service invokers network conditions are changing all the time. This fact inspires us jointly to consider the stability of service invokers network environment when building a prediction model. In specific, a reliability model is adopted for stability calculation and a recommendation algorithm is proposed in this paper. The advantages of our proposed algorithm is confirmed via experiments on a real-life quality of web service data set and comparison with existing quality of web service predicting algorithms.

Phosphate accumulating bacterium Pseudomonas stutzeri YG-24 exhibited efficient heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification ability. Single factor experiments showed that both heterotrophic nitrification and aerobic denitrification occurred with sodium citrate as carbon source and lower C/N ratio of 8. High average NH4(+)-N, NO2(-)-N and NO3(-)-N removal rates of 8.75, 7.51 and 7.73 mg L(-1)h(-1) were achieved. The application of strain YG-24 in wastewater samples resulted in TN, NH4(+)-N, NO2(-)-N, NO3(-)-N and P removal efficiencies of 85.28%, 88.13%, 86.15%, 70.83% and 51.21%. Sequencing and quantitative amplification by real-time PCR of napA, nirS and ppk showed that nitrogen removal pathway of strain YG-24 was achieved through heterotrophic ammonium nitrification coupled with fast nitrite denitrification (NH4(+)-N to NO2(-)-N and then to gaseous nitrogen) directly. These results demonstrated the strain as a suitable candidate to simultaneously remove both nitrogen and phosphate in wastewater treatment.

Mashing up web services and RESTful APIs is a novel programming approach to develop new applications. As the number of available resources is increasing rapidly, to discover potential services or APIs is getting difficult. Therefore, it is vital to relieve mashup developers of the burden of service discovery. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic model to assist mashup creators by recommending a list of APIs that may be used to compose a required mashup given descriptions of the mashup. Specifically, a relational topic model is exploited to characterize the relationship among mashups, APIs and their links. In addition, we incorporate the popularity of APIs to the model and make predictions on the links between mashups and APIs. Moreover, the statistical analysis on a public mashup platform shows the current status of mashup development and the applicability of this study. Experiments on a large service data set confirm the effectiveness of this proposed approach.

This paper studies the quality of web service prediction problem. We formalize the QoS prediction problem by incorporating multiple contextual characteristics via collective matrix factorization that simultaneously factor the user-service quality matrix and contextual information matrices. Using the service category and location context, we develop three context-aware QoS prediction models and algorithms to demonstrate the advantages of this modeling technique. The advantages of our proposed models are demonstrated via experiments on real-life data sets.

Web service discovery is a vital problem in service computing with the increasing number of services. Existing service discovery approaches merely focus on WSDL-based keyword search, semantic matching based on domain knowledge or ontologies, or QoS-based recommendations. The keyword search omits the underlying correlations and semantic knowledge or QoS information is not always available. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic service discovery approach to help web service users to retrieve related services and to improve the search performance. Specifically, we apply a probabilistic model to characterize the latten topics between services and queries, and then propose a matching method based on the topic relevance. Experiments on services from a real service repository confirm the feasibility and efficiency of this proposed method.

the exploring work of using the synthetic diamond film electrode to degrade pollutants through electrochemical oxidation technology has become one of the most concerned research hot spots in the environmental electrochemistry fields. BDD film electrode is an innovative material having the widest electrochemical window and an excellent stability in an acid or alkali solution. BDD film electrode has a strong capacity in degradation of nonbiodegradable pollutants in different organic wastewaters such as phenol compounds, dyes, and pesticides etc. The current efficiencies of more than 90% for water body purification and pollutants being completely mineralized have been demonstrated. This paper discussed and summarized the electrochemical behaviors and applications of BDD film electrode in nonbiodegradable organic wastewater treatment.
