Abstract The cell cycle is a crucial biological process that is involved in cell growth, development, and reproduction. It can be divided into G1, S, G2, and M phases, and each period is closely regulated to ensure the production of two similar daughter cells with the same genetic material. However, many obstacles influence the cell cycle, including the R-loop that is formed throughout this process. R-loop is a triple-stranded structure, composed of an RNA: DNA hybrid and a single DNA strand, which is ubiquitous in organisms from bacteria to mammals. The existence of the R-loop has important significance for the regulation of various physiological processes. However, aberrant accumulation of R-loop due to its limited resolving ability will be detrimental for cells. For example, DNA damage and genomic instability, caused by the R-loop, can activate checkpoints in the cell cycle, which in turn induce cell cycle arrest and cell death. At present, a growing number of factors have been proven to prevent or eliminate the accumulation of R-loop thereby avoiding DNA damage and mutations. Therefore, we need to gain detailed insight into the R-loop resolution factors at different stages of the cell cycle. In this review, we review the current knowledge of factors that play a role in resolving the R-loop at different stages of the cell cycle, as well as how mutations of these factors lead to the onset and progression of diseases.

Abstract Adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) editing of RNA, catalyzed by adenosine deaminase acting on RNA (ADAR) enzymes, is a prevalent RNA modification in mammals. It has been shown that A-to-I editing plays a critical role in multiple diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, neurological disorder, and particularly cancer. ADARs are the family of enzymes, including ADAR1, ADAR2, and ADAR3, that catalyze the occurrence of A-to-I editing. Notably, A-to-I editing is mainly catalyzed by ADAR1. Given the significance of A-to-I editing in disease development, it is important to unravel the complex roles of ADAR1 in cancer for the development of novel therapeutic interventions. In this review, we briefly describe the progress of research on A-to-I editing and ADARs in cancer, mainly focusing on the role of ADAR1 in cancer from both editing-dependent and independent perspectives. In addition, we also summarized the factors affecting the expression and editing activity of ADAR1 in cancer.

Abstract Background The reconstruction of segmental defect of the mandible has always been a challenge. The customized reconstruction plate without a bone graft is also considered a transitional means of rehabilitation and reconstruction in some cases. Methods This study evaluated the biomechanical behaviors of customized plates with different structural designs comparing with commercial plates using the finite element method in reconstrution of the lateral mandible defect. Results Simulations revealed the stress state in the plate bodies, bone tissues and screws were associated with the width, height, thickness of the plates as well as the distribution of screws. In all of the groups, the system of 16 mm-high, 2.8 mm-thick customized reconstruction plate with 10 screws was considered to be the most ideal design because of the most harmonious biomechanical state. What’s more, the stress shielding effects were not obvious in this experiment. Based on the above findings, we conducted a clinical case analysis to verify the mechanical properties of customized reconstruction and obtained a satisfactory operation result. Conclusions The results show that by adjusting the contour parameters of the reconstruction plates, an ideal and reliable customized plate can be manufactured. And the customized 3D-printed Ti alloy implant will be a new way to achieve mandibular reconstruction in patients unable to perform autologous bone graft surgery. Trial registration The present trial has been registered with ChiCTR, the registration number is ChiCTR 2,000,038,973 on 11/10/2020.

This study established novel and high-throughput strategies for the simultaneous analysis of 30 fluorinated emerging pollutants in different matrices from the shrimp aquaculture system in eastern China using UHPLC-MS/MS. The parameters of SPE for analysis of water samples and of QuEChERS methods for sediment and shrimp samples were optimized to allow the simultaneous detection and quantitation of 17 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and 13 fluoroquinolones (FQs). Under the optimal conditions, the limits of detection of 30 pollutants for water, sediment, and shrimp samples were 0.01–0.30 ng/L, 0.01–0.22 μg/kg, and 0.01–0.23 μg/kg, respectively, while the limits of quantification were 0.04–1.00 ng/L, 0.03–0.73 μg/kg, and 0.03–0.76 μg/kg, with satisfactory recoveries and intra-day precision. The developed methods were successfully applied to the analysis of multiple samples collected from aquaculture ponds in eastern China. PFASs were detected in all samples with concentration ranges of 0.18–0.77 μg/L in water, 0.13–1.41 μg/kg (dry weight) in sediment, and 0.09–0.96 μg/kg (wet weight) in shrimp, respectively. Only two FQs, ciprofloxacin and enrofloxacin, were found in the sediment and shrimp. In general, this study provides valuable insights into the prevalence of fluorinated emerging contaminants, assisting in the monitoring and control of emerging contaminants in aquatic foods.

Lead (Pb) pollution is a wide and severe public health issue, and developing efficient detection method for lead ion (Pb2+) is of crucial importance. Herein, a 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole (DMTZ)-functionalized hydroxycopper salt metal organic framework (MOF) material (named as DMP-Cu) was prepared through an in-situ self-templating method and used to develop an electrochemical sensor for the detection of Pb2+. The successful synthesis of the composite DMP-Cu was confirmed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray energy spectroscopy. After optimization of the detection conditions, the DMP-Cu-50 modified glassy carbon electrode (DMP-Cu-50/GCE) shows good sensing performance to Pb2+ in aqueous solutions via square wave anodic dissolution voltammetry. The modified electrode exhibited good conductivity and the oxidation current showed a linear relationship to Pb2+ in the ranges of 1 × 10-11 ∼ 4 × 10-10 mol·L-1 and 8 × 10-10 ∼ 5 × 10-8 mol·L-1 with a detection limit of 0.003 nmol·L-1. In addition, the proposed sensing platforms have good reproducibility, stability, and anti-interference properties. With further analysis of real samples, the proposed sensors exhibit satisfactory performance in detecting Pb2+ in multiple actual water samples, including tap water and pond water. Therefore, the novel sensor can be a powerful analytical strategy for Pb2+ and has high potential to aid the effective monitoring and risk assessment of Pb2+ in the environment.

Abstract Heavy metal ions are highly toxic for living organisms especially after bioaccumulation and biomagnification, which possess a serious threat to human health and ecological environment. The rapid, portable, and efficient analytical methods are urgently needed for the determination of heavy metals in different media. Due to the unique advantages of field‐effect transistor (FET) sensors including fast response, easy manipulation, small size, and high sensitivity, FET sensor has become a novel strategy for heavy metal ion monitoring and numerous attempts have been made for the analysis of various heavy metal ions (e.g., mercury, lead, arsenic, copper, cadmium, iron, and silver) in the past decade. Thus, it is of urgent need to systematically summarize recent advances of FET sensing strategies in fast and highly efficient detection of heavy metal ions. In this review, the representative FET sensing platforms for heavy metal ions are introduced with a focus on their working principle and sensing performance. Moreover, the limitations of current FET sensors as well as the gap between the research achievements and practical application requirements are also discussed. At last, future directions of FET sensors in heavy metal ion analysis are proposed, which provides guidance to the further development of FET sensors for monitoring heavy metal ions as well as other chemicals.

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused numerous unexpected changes for families and societies, which have likely contributed to higher amounts of stress for most parents. This study aimed to examine the relationship between burnout and mental health among parents during the COVID-19. Pandemic exposure and household factors (e.g., family structure, family function) were examined as moderators. An online cross-sectional survey recruiting 1,209 adults was conducted from April 21st to April 28th, 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown in China. The multivariable linear regression analysis was employed to test the association between burnout, household factors, and mental health among parents. Findings suggested that for parents with a young child, poorer mental health was related to a higher level of burnout (β = 0.220, P < 0.001) and greater exposure to the pandemic. Mothers of a single and/or young child had considerably poorer mental health. Moreover, the relationship between mental health and burnout among parents was significantly moderated by epidemic exposure (β = 2.561, P < 0.001), family structure (number of children: β = −1.257, P < 0.001; first child age: β=-1.116, P < 0.001) and family function (β = −0.574, P < 0.05). This study indicated that burnout symptoms were significantly associated with worse mental health among parents in China. Besides, exposure to the pandemic, family structure, and family function was found to moderate the association between burnout and mental health among parents. Therefore, the present study stressed enhanced access to mental health resources and emotional supports for parents during a public crisis to reduce the deleterious effects of burnout.

Abstract Field-effect transistors (FETs) present highly sensitive, rapid, and in situ detection capability in chemical and biological analysis. Recently, two-dimensional (2D) transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) attract significant attention as FET channel due to their unique structures and outstanding properties. With the booming of studies on TMDC FETs, we aim to give a timely review on TMDC-based FET sensors for environmental analysis in different media. First, theoretical basics on TMDC and FET sensor are introduced. Then, recent advances of TMDC FET sensor for pollutant detection in gaseous and aqueous media are, respectively, discussed. At last, future perspectives and challenges in practical application and commercialization are given for TMDC FET sensors. This article provides an overview on TMDC sensors for a wide variety of analytes with an emphasize on the increasing demand of advanced sensing technologies in environmental analysis.

Objective: The study aimed to review evidence on the efficacy of submucosal (SM) administration vs. intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) route of injections of dexamethasone for improving outcomes after mandibular third molar surgery.Methods: PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and Google Scholar were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) up to 20th May 2021. Early (2–3 days) and late (7 days) outcomes were compared between SM vs. IV or IM dexamethasone. Quality of evidence was assessed based on GRADE.Results: Thirteen trials were included in the systematic review and 10 in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis indicated a significant reduction in early pain with IV dexamethasone but no such difference for late pain compared to the SM group. There was no difference in early and late swelling scores between the SM and IV groups. Pooled analysis indicated no significant difference in early and late trismus between SM and IV groups. Comparing SM with IM dexamethasone, there was no significant difference in early and late pain scores. Swelling in the early and late postoperative periods was not significantly different between the two groups. There was no significant difference in early and late trismus between SM and IM groups. The quality of evidence was low for all outcomes.Conclusion: Low-quality evidence suggests that SM infiltration of dexamethasone results in similar outcomes as compared to IV or IM administration of the drug after third molar surgeries. Further high-quality RCTs are needed to corroborate the current conclusions.

Background: Although several studies have shown an association of family care with a high level of depressive symptoms, the relationship between them remains indistinguishable.Objective: This study aims to examine the associations between family care, economic stress, and depressive symptoms among Chinese adults in urban and rural areas during the COVID-19 outbreak.Methods: Based on cross-sectional data collected through online surveys from February 1st to 10th 2020 in China the present study recruited 2,858 adults. It used multiple linear regression to examine the association between family care and depressive symptoms, while economic stress was examined as moderators on the above relationship.Results: The results showed that caring for both the elderly and children was significantly associated with higher depressive symptoms compared with non-caregivers (B = 2.584, 95%CI: 1.254, 3.915), and a similar result was also found in urban areas. Also, caring for the elderly only was also had a higher level of depressive symptoms than non-caregivers in rural areas (B = 3.135, 95%CI: 0.745, 5.525). Meeting the care needs was significantly associated with lower depressive symptoms compared with unmet care needs, while for rural caregivers, the results were not significant. Besides, economic stress strengthened the effect of family care needs on depressive symptoms for sandwich-generation caregivers who provide care to both the elderly and children (B = 0.605, 95%CI: 0.077, 1.134). While in rural areas, the moderation effects of economic stress were only found for elderly caregivers (B = 1.106, 95%CI: 0.178, 2.035).Conclusion: These findings suggest that we should pay more attention to the family caregiver's mental health during the COVID-19 outbreak. In addition, more effective policies should be developed to provide financial support for family caregivers, especially for sandwich-generation caregivers and rural elderly caregivers.

Objectives: The objectives of this study are to assess the relationship between media exposure and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) and to highlight the underlying mechanisms mediated by risk perception.Methods: This survey was conducted online in China from February 1st to February 10th, 2020. A total of 2,858 Chinese citizens aged ≥18 years from 31 provinces and autonomous regions were recruited to participate in a cross-sectional study. Self-report questionnaires were used to assess media exposure, PTSS, and risk perception.Results: The prevalence of respondents with heightened PTSS scores was 22.2%. After controlling for covariates, media exposure (more than five times a day) was significantly and positively associated with a high level of PTSS (B = 4.11, p < 0.001), and risk perception (worry and severity) significantly mediated the relationship between media exposure and PTSS (all 95% CIs did not include 0).Conclusions: Based on these findings, the frequency of media exposure was associated with PTSS. Risk perception (worry and severity) mediated the relationship between media exposure and PTSS. The mental health, particularly PTSS, of the general population should be closely monitored and “infodemics” should be combatted while addressing the COVID-19 outbreak; cognitive interventions may be promising.

The mental health problems might have been increased owing to the COVID-19 pandemic with the commencement of the year 2020, therefore, an epidemiological survey appraising the burden of mental health issues among the general population is imperative. This cross-sectional study attempts to reveal the underlying mental health conditions, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Symptoms (PTSS), depression, and insomnia, relating to the pandemic situation, and to further examine the combined effects of gender and age on the COVID-19 related mental health consequences. An online survey was conducted among 2,992 adults in China from February 1st 2020 to February 10th 2020. The study uses binary logistic regression to analyze the potential factors associated with PTSD, depression, and insomnia. The results indicate that the prevalence of PTSS, depression, and insomnia are 19.5, 26.9, and 19.6% respectively during the COVID-19. Men and women show different rates of PTSS and depression, whereas no insomnia is found in both males and females. The females above 50 years of age have a lower level of depressive symptoms (OR = 0.448, 95%CI: 0.220–0.911, Cohen's d = −0.443) as compared with females aged 18–25; while the highest effect sizes for PTSS (OR = 2.846, 95%CI: 1.725–4.695, Cohen's d = 0.537) and the depression (OR = 2.024, 95%CI: 1.317–3.111, Cohen's d = 0.314) are seen in males aged 26 to 30. Besides gender, education, living conditions, direct exposure to COVID-19, the post mental and the physical health condition is related to PTSS, depression, and insomnia. Our study suggests that high-risk groups, especially those having two or more related factors and young men, should be the focus of mental health intervention.

Under complex seismic forces, the failure characteristics of the plastic hinge region at the bottom of the pier column and the methods improving the ductility have attracted extensive attention. In this study, steel fiber-reinforced concrete with fine aggregate (SFRC-FA) was applied to locally replace the conventional concrete in the potential plastic hinge region at the bottom of the pier column. Five SFRC-FA pier column specimens with different stirrup ratios and different replacement lengths and one conventional reinforced concrete pier column specimen were produced. Using the seismic behavior tests under the combined bending-shear-torsion-axial force, the failure mode, torsional bearing capacity, energy dissipation, and the torsional plastic hinges of the pier columns were investigated. In addition, an equation for calculating the torsional bearing capacity of the new composite pier columns was proposed. The results showed that (1) compared with the reinforced concrete pier column, the plastic hinge was shifted from the bottom of the pier column to the middle of the height of the pier column due to the application of SFRC-FA at the bottom of the pier column, which improved the torsional bearing capacity; (2) the effect of reducing the stirrup ratio of the SFRC-FA replacement region on the torsional bearing capacity, cracking mode, energy dissipation, and ductility was not obvious; (3) the accuracy of the new equation based on the space truss model proposed in this article was verified by comparison with the experiments of this study and other researches.

Background: People lived through different types of stresses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and stresses from different sources are believed to associate differently with mental health. Objectives: The current study aims to examine the relationship between types of stresses and mental health among the general Chinese adult population, and further explore the moderating role of social support in these relationships. Methods: This study was conducted from 1 to 10 February 2020, and 2441 participants were recruited through an online cross-sectional survey from 31 provinces in China. We used multiple linear regression analyses to examine the associations among stresses’ types, social support, and mental health. Results: The study revealed that all types of stresses were associated with more mental health symptoms. Stresses from lockdown policy presented stronger associations with mental health symptoms (Beta = 0.387 for depressive symptoms and Beta = 0.385 for post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS)) than stresses from pandemic fear (Beta = 0.195 for depressive symptoms and Beta = 0.221 for PTSS). Moreover, greater social support enhanced the positive associations between stresses and mental health symptoms. Conclusions: Stresses from lockdown policies during the early stage of the COVID-19 epidemic are worthy of more attention. We urge more interventions are required to reduce the side-effect of lockdown policies, and also discuss implications for mental health promotion.

The behavior of two series of corroded thin-walled concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs) was investigated in this paper. One series, called the CT series, consists of fourteen CFST specimens corroded by NaCl solution, while the other, called the AT series, consists of six test pieces corroded in the atmosphere. Outer surfaces of corroded steel tubes were scanned using a 3D scanner machine, and a complete surface profile of each specimen was obtained for corrosion evaluation using different methods in this study. Entire test pieces were compressed to failure, and their behaviors under loading were recorded. It is shown that corrosion has a fractal feature, and it has a significant effect on the ductility of specimens. In addition, FEA models of corroded CFST specimens were established based on the 3D scanning profile results using the ABAQUS program and verified against column test results.

A new strategy for the design and construction of molecularly imprinted magnetic fluorescent nanocomposite-based-sensor is proposed. This multifunctional nanocomposite exhibits the necessary optics, magnetism and biocompatibility for use in the selective fluorescence detection of lysozyme. The magnetic fluorescent nanocomposites are prepared by combining carboxyl- functionalized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles with l-cysteine-modified zinc sulfide quantum dots (MNP/QDs). Surface molecular imprinting technology was employed to coat the lysozyme molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) layer on the MNP/QDs to form a core-shell structure. The molecularly imprinted MNP/QDs (MNP/QD@MIPs) can rapidly separate the target protein and then use fluorescence sensing to detect the protein; this reduces the background interference, and the selectivity and sensitivity of the detection are improved. The molecularly imprinted MNP/QDs sensor presented good linearity over a lysozyme concentration range from 0.2 to 2.0 μM and a detection limit of 4.53 × 10−3 μM for lysozyme. The imprinting factor of the MNP/QD@MIPs was 4.12, and the selectivity coefficient ranged from 3.19 to 3.85. Furthermore, the MNP/QD@MIPs sensor was applied to detect of lysozyme in human urine and egg white samples with recoveries of 95.40–103.33%. Experimental results showed that the prepared MNP/QD@MIPs has potential for selective magnetic separation and fluorescence sensing of target proteins in biological samples.

In the study, PS/Ag composite microspheres with polystyrene (PS) core and silver shell were synthesized by ultrasonic electroless plating. The samples were characterized by SEM, FTIR and XRD. The effects of times of sensitization and silver plating, mass ratio of AgNO _3 to PS microspheres and stirring method on the preparation and dispersion of PS/Ag microspheres were studied. The results show that the more times of sensitization and silver plating, the more uniform the silver deposition on the surface of microspheres. When the mass ratio of AgNO _3 to PS microspheres is 2: 1, it can promote the uniform coating of silver shell and reduce the content of free silver. Ultrasonic assisted electroless plating for 10 min can prevent PS/Ag microspheres from agglomerating and improve the speed of electroless plating. The thickness of the silver shell on the surface of the PS microsphere is about 200 nm.

At the bedrock section of the auxiliary shaft of the Tong-ting coal mine, the sidewall has varying degradation degrees in different parts. The part on which water flowed is barely corroded, whereas the moist part near the pouring joints is seriously corroded. We first studied the mechanism of this phenomenon by chromatography, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. We then used simplified models built by particle flow code software (i.e., particle flow code in three dimensions, PFC3D) to analyse how increasing degradation depth affects compressive strength and failure patterns. The results were as follows. (1) Gypsum and calcite in corrosive water were supersaturated. The part on which water flowed was protected by the crystallized precipitation on the concrete. By contrast, the degradation of the part where water flowed through pouring joints was aggravated by internal crystallization and dissolution. (2) PFC3D numerical simulation indicated that decreases in vertical ultimate stress were strongly linearly correlated with degradation depth. As for the −355.5 m damaged part, reinforcement should be conducted before degradation depth reaches 250 mm. (3) No obvious signs were observed prior to the failure of the corroded sidewall. Therefore, the development of degradation depth should be monitored before degradation parts are reinforced.

Due to the high conductivity and stability of silver, silver ink has been widely used in the field of printed electronics. However, since mechanical strain would cause the contact between key particles to be broken. Recently, higher requirements have been put on the bending resistance of silver paste. In this experiment, by preparing Ag NPs: Ag Flakes composite materials of 20:80 and 30:70 respectively, a new method for preparing stable modified flake silver powder is proposed, and the attachment and growth methods of Ag NPs reduced on micron flake silver powder is discussed. Flake silver powder, dispersant and reducing agent are added to the silver-ammonia complex, and the nano-silver particles are reduced on the flake silver powder by controlling the reaction conditions. When Ag ^+ : Ag Flakes in the solution is 30:70, there is a clear interface between the silver particles and the silver flakes, and the size distribution range is between 10 and 100 nm; when Ag ^+ : Ag Flakes is 20:80, the distance between the nano-silver particles and the silver plate crystal plane is about 0.222 nm and 0.260 nm, these spacings represent the (1–12) and (004) planes of Ag, respectively. The reduced silver particles grow on the surface of the silver sheet, the size is about 5 ∼ 60 nm, and form a sheet-point combination of shaped silver powder, which can be used to make conductive silver paste with cost and performance competitiveness. The reaction can be completed at room temperature (5 ∼ 25 °C) and atmospheric pressure (80 ∼ 100 kPa), the operation is simple, the reaction time is short, and it has a positive effect on the commercial production of printable highly conductive silver paste.

Using the conservation of resources theory and social exchange theory as our conceptual frameworks, the current study examined how employee surface acting relates to their sabotage to customers through the mediating role of emotional exhaustion and explored the moderating roles of coworker exchange (CWX) and leader-member exchange (LMX). We collected two-wave time-lagged data from 540 clinical nurses and found that emotional exhaustion mediated the positive relationship between surface acting and employee sabotage to customers. In addition, we found that CWX buffered the positive effect of surface acting on emotional exhaustion, while LMX buffered the positive effect of emotional exhaustion on employee sabotage to customers, such that the effects were weaker when CWX and LMX were higher, respectively. These findings shed light on the effect of surface acting on employee harmful behaviors, the potential underlying mechanism, and boundary conditions to mitigate the negative consequences of surface acting.

The slag-based compound cementitious material (SBCCM) consists of five components, according to the traditional test methods for trial, the workload is very heavy, the efficiency is low. A least-squares mutual information (LSMI) method was created for feature selection of SBCCM. The paper used the LSMI feature selection to sort the importance of the material components, selected the three components that play an important role in the material, and then used the orthogonal test method to quickly test out the optimal ratio of the material. The LSMI is a regression-oriented method capable of solving difficult probability density problems. It sorts the importance of input features by their dependence on output values, thereby screening out important features. The results showed that the LSMI was an effective feature selection method, and it can greatly reduce the workload in the preparation of the SBCCM.

Because of high concentration of soluble salt in coastal saline soil, it might cause salt expansion to some extent. In this paper, the application of slag compound as a curing agent (referred to as SM) for dealing with salt expansion in saline soil is investigated. This has done through studying the coefficient of salt expansion characteristics of the soil stabilized by slag compound. The test results approve that the SM improves saline soil’s salt expansion and can make a soil characterized as expansible to the one with no salt expansion. Furthermore, SM decreases the coefficient of salt expansion after hydration by turning into crystal and gel formation, which improves the strength of soil samples and reduces the expansion of crystalline salts. On the other hand, SM reacts with the soluble salt in saline soil, which reduces the content of soluble salt and reduces the precipitation of crystalline salt and therefore lowers the coefficient of salt expansion. The study also compared the curing applications of SM, cement and quick lime. SM and cement have been found to have similar impacts on saline soil’s salt expansion, whilst SM has been identified as a more economically viable option. Quick lime, however, is shown to have less curing application compared with both SM and cement. Thus, utilizing SM for improving saline soil’s salt expansion has been proved to not only be technically feasible, but also economically viable.

Simple, efficient, and durable electrodes are highly demanded for practical electro­chemical process. In this study, a reduced graphene oxide modified nickel foam electrode (GR‑Ni foam) was facilely prepared via one-step cyclic voltammetry electrodeposition of gra­phene oxide suspension onto the Ni foam. The electrochemical degradation of nitrofuran­zone (NFZ, a kind of typical antibiotics) was studied on the GR-Ni foam cathode. The cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectra analysis confirmed that presence of GR loading accelerated the electron transfer from the cathode surface to NFZ. With the applied cathode potential of −1.25 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), the removal efficiency of NFZ (C0 = 20 mg L−1) at the GR-Ni foam electrode reached up to 99 % within 30 min, showing a higher reaction rate constant (0.1297 min−1) than 0.0870 min−1 at the Pd-Ni foam and 0.0186 min−1 at the Ni foam electrode. It was also found that the pH, dissolved oxygen and NFZ initial concentration have slight effect on NFZ degradation at the GR-Ni foam electrode. The reactions first occurred at nitro groups (-NO2), unsaturated C=N bonds and N-N bonds to generate furan ring-containing products, and then these products were transformed into linear diamine products. The direct reduction by electrons was mainly responsible for NFZ reduction at the GR-Ni foam electrode. Even after 18 cycles, the removal efficiency of NFZ still reached up to 98 % within 1 h. In addition, the cathodic degradation process could eliminate the antibacterial activity of NFZ. The GR-Ni foam electrode would have a great potential in electrochemical process for treating wastewater containing furan antibiotics.

High concentration of soluble salt in coastal saline soil can dissolve soil particles to some extent. In this paper, the application of slag compound as a curing agent (referred to as SM) for dealing with dissolve collapsibility in saline soil is investigated. This has done through studying dissolve collapsibility characteristic of the soil stabilized by slag compound. The test results approve that the SM improves saline soil’s dissolve collapsibility and can make a soil characterized as collapsible to the one with no dissolve collapsibility. Furthermore, SM decreases dissolve collapsibility after hydration by turning into crystal and gel formation, which improves the strength of soil samples and reduces the associated deformation. On the other hand, SM reacts with the soluble salt in saline soil, which reduces saline soil’s sensibility to water and the associated deformation and therefore lowers the dissolve collapsibility. The study also compared the curing applications of SM, cement and quick lime.SM and cement have been found to have similar impacts on saline soil dissolve collapsibility, whilst SM has been identified as a more economically viable option. Quick lime, however, is shown to have less curing application compared with both SM and cement. Thus, utilizing SM for improving saline soil’s dissolve collapsibility has been proved to not only be technically feasible, but also economically viable.

The metallurgical performances in a mold cavity were investigated using a conventional bilateral-port nozzle or a swirling flow nozzle (SFN) plus with in-mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) for bloom continuous casting (CC) process. To this end, a coupled model of electromagnetism, flow, and heat transfer was developed. Meanwhile, corresponding plant trials were conducted to evaluate the influence of a melt feeding mode on the internal quality of an as-cast bloom in Shaoguan Steel, China. Under the case of the SFN plus with M-EMS, a novel opposite stirring mode in the bloom CC mold cavity can be observed. A swirling flow in the anti-clockwise direction generated by the SFN, and the other swirling flow in the clockwise direction induced by the M-EMS were formed in regions with distances ranging from 0 m to 0.11 m and 0.218 m to 1.4 m from the meniscus, respectively. As compared to the case of the bilateral-port nozzle plus with M-EMS, the opposite stirring mode in the mold cavity can promote the melt superheat dissipation, improve the casting soundness and the componential homogeneity, inhibit the mold level fluctuation, and also be beneficial to prevent slag erosion for the nozzle external wall at the meniscus. Here, the fluctuation range of carbon segregation along the casting direction is reduced from 0.16 to 0.06, and the magnitude of mold level fluctuation is reduced from 5.6 mm to 2.3 mm under the adoption of SFN plus with M-EMS, respectively.

Six new metabolites, actinofuranones D-I (compounds 1–6), were isolated together with three known compounds—JBIR-108 (7), E-975 (8), and E-492 (9)—from a fermentation broth of Streptomyces gramineus derived from the lichen Leptogium trichophorum. The structures of the new compounds 1–6 were established using comprehensive NMR spectroscopic data analysis, as well as UV, IR, and MS data. The anti-inflammatory activity of these isolated compounds were evaluated by examining their ability to inhibit nitric oxide (NO) production in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Compounds 4, 5, 8, and 9 attenuated the production of NO due to the suppression of the expression of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Moreover, 4, 5, 8, and 9 also inhibited LPS-induced release of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α).

Photocatalytic merging H[sub 2] evolution with benzyl-alcohol (BA) oxidation offers a promising approach to producing H[sub 2] and value-added chemicals due to water photocatalysis with a sluggish kinetic process and gas-mixed H2/O2 gas security concern. Herein, incorporating electron-deficient pyromellitic dianhydride into large π-conjugate polymeric carbon nitride builds an effective in-electric field (IEF). The resultant photocatalyst shows the dependence on the ratio of H2O and BA for H2 and benzaldehyde production, particularly the highest yield rate of H2 (13.87) and benzaldehyde (7.71 mmol h-1 g-1), 69.2% at 400 nm of internal quantum efficiency for H2-evolution, and 2.15% of solar-to-hydrogen efficiency under simulated AM 1.5G irradiation. Mechanism analysis suggests that the strong driving force of effective IEF originates from the cooperating large delocalized π-conjugate and electron-deficient effect, which overwhelms the intrinsic binding energy of charge carrier to enhance its separation and migration efficiency dramatically. Moreover, extended light response and mesoporous channel in photocatalyst improve the absorption edge and tail, the n→π* transition, and mass transport of BA. In situ characterizations revealed that the enhanced H2 production is due to the releasing protons from BA oxidation via carbon-centered radical-mediated. These findings provide a novel strategy and deep understanding of photocatalytic coupling H2 with added-value chemical production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
