Abstract: In this paper, we present a novel approach called IfcView that relies on Semantic Web technologies for creating building views. To do so, we consider an ifcOWL ontology proposed by buildingSMART. The ifcOWL is an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) based ontology. By combining the ifcOWL ontology with logical rules (expressed in Semantic Web Rule Language, SWRL), we demonstrate through several case studies that our approach can perform a more intuitive and flexible extraction of building views when compared to the Model View Definition (MVD) approach. This is because our rule-based approach dynamically creates sub-graphs (i.e. views) by specifying the IFC elements to extract as Globally Unique Identifiers (GUID), relationships or entities. Another benefit of our approach is the fact that it simplifies the maintenance and definition of building views. Once our rule-based system extracts such a building view (i.e. sub-graph), this view can be exported by using STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product) or Turtle (a Resource Description Framework (RDF) syntax) formats.

Abstract: We focus on the maximum number of minimal transversals in 3-partite 3-uniform hypergraphs on n vertices. Those hypergraphs (and their minimal transversals) are commonly found in database applications. In this paper we prove that this number grows at least like 1.4977^n and at most like 1.5012^n.

Abstract: Event reconstruction is one of the most important step in digital forensic investigations. It allows investigators to have a clear view of the events that have occurred over time. Event reconstruction is a complex task which requires exploration of a large amount of events due to the pervasiveness of new technologies nowadays. Abstract: International audience; Due to the democratisation of new technologies, computer forensics investigators have to deal with volumes of data which are becoming increasingly large and heterogeneous. Indeed, in a single machine, hundred of events occur per minute, produced and logged by the operating system and various software. Therefore, the identification of evidence, and more generally, the reconstruction of past events is a tedious and time-consuming task for the investigators. Our work aims at reconstructing and analysing automatically the events related to a digital incident, while respecting legal requirements. To tackle those three main problems (volume, heterogeneity and legal requirements), we identify seven necessary criteria that an efficient reconstruction tool must meet to address these challenges. This paper introduces an approach based on a three-layered ontology, called ORD2I, to represent any digital events. ORD2I is associated with a set of operators to analyse the resulting timeline and to ensure the reproducibility of the investigation.

Abstract: International audience; Personalization is the new magic buzzword of application development. To make the complexity of today's application functionalities and information spaces "digestible", customization has become the new go-to technique. But while those technologies aim to ease the consumption of media for their users, they suffer from the same problematic: in the age of Big Data, applications have to cope with a conundrum of heterogeneous information sources that have to be perceived, processed and interpreted. Researchers tend to aim for a maximum degree of integration to create the perfect, all-embracing personalization. The results are wide-range, but overly complex systems that suffer from issues in performance and scalability. Starting from our own, similar experience, we argue for a personalization of personalization - a clear-cut customization of profiling by limiting the information maintained in the system to those elements that are crucially relevant for the target task. We demonstrate the concern based on an application developed in our laboratory: a system that profiles web users based on their browsing history, with the goal of personalizing digital advertisements.

Abstract: International audience; To determine the circumstances of an incident, investigators need to reconstruct events that occurred in the past. The large amount of data spread across the crime scene makes this task very tedious and complex. In particular, the analysis of the reconstructed timeline, due to the huge quantity of events that occurred on a digital system, is almost impossible and leads to cognitive overload. Therefore, it becomes more and more necessary to develop automatic tools to help or even replace investigators in some parts of the investigation. This paper introduces a multi-layered architecture designed to assist the investigative team in the extraction of information left in the crime scene, the construction of the timeline representing the incident and the interpretation of this latter.

Abstract: Fourteenth Annual DFRWS Conference, Denver, USA; International audience; Have a clear view of events that occurred over time is a difficult objective to achieve in digital investigations. Event reconstruction, which allows investigators to understand the timeline of a crime, is one of the most important step of an investigation. This complex task requires exploration of a large amount of events due to the pervasiveness of new technologies nowadays. Any evidence produced at the end of the investigative process must also meet the requirements of the courts, such as reproducibility, verifiability, validation, etc. For this purpose, we propose a new methodology, supported by theoretical concepts, that can assist investigators through the whole process including the construction and the interpretation of the events describing the case. The proposed approach is based on a model which integrates knowledge of experts from the fields of digital forensics and software development to allow a semantically rich representation of events related to the incident. The main purpose of this knowledge model is to allow the analysis of these events in an automatic and efficient way. This paper describes the approach and then focuses on the main conceptual and formal aspects: a formal incident modelization and operators for timeline reconstruction and analysis.

Abstract: Significant advances in terms of syntactic, structural and schematic heterogeneity have been achieved by adopting conventions and standards. The IT community is now trying to solve the problem of semantic heterogeneity (particularly in the Semantic Web field). To reach this objective, it is necessary to enable machines to understand the semantics of terms. Semantics, as opposed to syntax, defines the mental representation of concepts corresponding to the symbols used in texts or images. When a person reads a text, he uses a semantization process which enables him to associate an interpretation to each sign identified. This operation uses a number of underlying processes such as measuring semantic distance between the meanings of several terms. Reasoning about the semantic proximity of terms is trivial for a human. However, this task is very complex for machines, and requires access to a large number of definitions of specific field terms.

Abstract: International audience; This work applies knowledge engineering’s techniques to medieval illuminations. Inside it, an illumination is considered as a knowledge graph which was used by some elites in the Middle Ages to represent themselves as a social group and exhibit the events in their lives, and their cultural values. That graph is based on combinations of symbolic elements linked each to others with semantic relations. Those combinations were used to encode visual metaphors and influential messages whose interpretations are sometimes tricky for not experts. Our work aims to describe the meaning of those elements through logical modelling using ontologies. To achieve that, we construct logical reasoning rules and simulate them using artificial intelligence mechanisms. The goal is to facilitate the interpretation of illuminations and provide, in a future evolution of current social media, logical formalisation of new encoding and information transmission services.

Abstract: International audience; Concepts such as near, far, south of, etc., are by its own nature vague. However, they are quite common in human language. In the case of historical records, these concepts are often the only source of information regarding the position of ancient places whose exact location has been lost. In our research, we use digitized written records from Upper Mesopotamia (2000BC) from the HIGEOMES project. Our goal is to provide better understanding of the location of places, based on the analysis of spatial statements. In our approach, we analyse cardinal statements between places with known location. Using this information we construct a probabilistic function representing the vagueness of cardinal statements. For each place with unknown position, we combine multiple vague statements using our probabilistic function in order to limit the possible search area. At this point, our results look promising. In the near future, and thanks to new data, such as proximity statements as provided by the HIGEOMES project, we expect to improve our results.

Abstract: International audience; In this article we want to present an integrational approach of geospatial data into the semantic web in the context of the Semantic GIS project. We first highlight the purpose and advantages of the integration and interpretation of data into the semantic web and further on describe the process of data aquisition, data interpretation, quality assurance and provenance and how to access the so integrated data. We continue to highlight the advantages of this integration method by presenting two fields of application of our research project: The evaluation of map data and the improvement of disaster management. We conclude the article by giving prospects of future work in our project. Abstract: International audience; The paper describes the relation between fuzzy and non-fuzzy description logics. It gives an overview about current research in these areas and describes the difference between tasks for description logics and fuzzy logics. The paper also deals with the transformation properties of description logics to fuzzy logics and backwards. While the process of transformation from a description logic to a fuzzy logic is a trivial inclusion, the other way of reducing information from fuzzy logic to description logic is a difficult task, that will be topic of future work.

Abstract: International audience; This paper presents a CAD transfer method to visualize thermal simulation results in a virtual environment in order to optimize building design determined by energy efficiency. As the goal is to present a more immersive thermal simulation and to project the calculation results in projective displays particularly in cave automatic virtual environment, the main idea of the method is to provide a workflow so that the thermal result can be visualized and simulated in the virtual environment (VE). The paper shows the experiment results conducted in an immersion room by some respondents. An evaluation of the method has demonstrated that it is possible to conduct a specific data workflow in order to represent building performance data and particularly thermal simulation results in virtual reality (VR). With this method, the data flow that starts from the design process is completely and accurately channeled to the VR system. CAD data in 3D mock-up models composed of basic geometry are usually designed and transferred to other tools particularly if intended for VR. However, CAD data needed for the VE is not simple, it needs to be structured in a workflow method. Challenges in data exchange and interoperability among design, simulation and VR tools used have become an important issue to investigate how the workflow works

Abstract: International audience; There is a need for decision-makers to be provided with both an overview of existing knowledge, and information which is as complete and up-to-date as possible on changes in certain features of the biosphere. Another objective is to bring together all the many attempts which have been made over the years at various levels (international, Community, national and regional) to obtain more information on the environment and the way it is changing. As a result, remote sensing tools monitor large amount of land cover informations enabling study of dynamic processes. However the size of the dataset require new tools to identify pattern and extract knowledge. We propose a model to discover knowledge on parcel data allowing analysis of dynamic geospatial phenomena using time, spatial and thematic data. The model is called Land Cover Change Continuum (LC3) and is able to track the evolution of spatial entities along time. Based on semantic web technologies, the model allows users to specify and to query spatio-temporal informations based on semantic definitions. The semantic of spatial relationships are of interest to qualify filiation relationships. The result of this process permit to identify evolutive patterns as a basis for studying the dynamics of the geospatial environment. To this end, we use CORINE datasets to study changes in a specific part of France. In our approach, we consider entities as having several representations during their lifecycle. Each representation includes identity, spatial and descriptives properties that evolve over time.

This paper addresses the issue of finding an efficient ontology evaluation method by presenting the existing ontology evaluation techniques, while discussing their advantages and drawbacks. The presented ontology evaluation techniques can be grouped into four categories: gold standard-based, corpus-based, task-based and criteria based approaches.

Abstract: International audience; The progress of information and communication technologies has greatly increased the quantity of data to process. Thus, managing data heterogeneity is a problem nowadays. In the 1980s, the concept of a Federated Database Architecture (FDBA) was introduced as a collection of components to unite loosely coupled federation. Semantic web technologies mitigate the data heterogeneity problem, however due to the data structure heterogeneity the integration of several ontologies is still a complex task. For tackling this problem, we propose a loosely coupled federated ontology architecture (FOWLA). Our approach allows the coexistence of various ontologies sharing common data dynamically at query execution through logical rules. We have illustrated the advantages of adopting our approach through several examples and benchmarks. We also compare our approach with other existing initiatives.

Abstract: International audience; Nowadays, the expertise of a user plays an important role in the search and retrieval in the information systems that usually combines general and specialized knowledge in the construction of queries. In addition, most of the queries systems are currently restricted on specific domains. Tackling these issues, we propose a methodology that implements a semantic catalogue in order to provide a smart queries system for retrieving data sources on the web by means of the extension of the user expertise. We propose the combination of a query expansion method, and the use of similarity measures and controlled vocabularies. Thus, it allows the system to recommend data sources that are able to fit the need of a user in terms of information. To reach this goal, we exploit standard such as OWL from the W3C and the CSW GeoCatalogue from the OGC.

Abstract: National audience; Il est nécessaire pour les gérants de territoires d’avoir un aperçu des connaissances actuelles et de l’évolution de certaines caractéristiques de la biosphère. Les outils de télédétection enregistrent une grande quantité d’informations liées à la couverture terrestre permettant l’étude de processus dynamiques. Toutefois, le volume des jeux de données nécessite de nouveaux outils pour identifier des motifs et extraire de la connaissance. Nous proposons un modèle capable de découvrir la connaissance sur des données parcellaires et permettant l’analyse des phénomènes dynamiques à l’aide de données temporelles, spatiales et thématiques. Le modèle est appelé Land Cover Change Continuum (LC3) et se base sur les technologies du Web sémantique pour permettre une représentation accrue du contexte de l’environnement géospatial et fournir des résultats d’analyses proches de ceux des experts du domaine via des opérations de raisonnement automatique. En définitive, ce modèle permet d’améliorer notre compréhension de la dynamique des territoires.

Abstract: International audience; In the literature, ontology change management systems (OCMS) are direct implementation of the concept of “change management” stated by reference (Klein, 2004). Ontology change management combines ontol- ogy evolution and versioning features to manage ontol- ogy changes and their impacts. Since 2007, many works have combined ontology evolution and versioning into ontology change management systems (OCMS). The evolution subject has been massively studied in these works. They especially addressed the consistence issue for the application of changes on the ontology. These proposals constituted a consequent background for ontology change management but they did not take into account certain specificities of ontologies.One of them is the fact that ontologies are decen- tralized data Rajugan (2006). It means that multiple versions of the same ontology evolution are bound to exist over the Web and must be supported. It implies that ontology chronological evolution is not enough to manage ontologies. Actually, managing different paral- lel versions of a same ontology would bridge this gap.Another characteristic is that ontologies are meant to grow during their lifecycle and may become too large to be used in its original scale by potential ap- plications. Indeed, ontology development implies a dynamic and incremental process starting from the creation of a brute ontology, which has to be revised and refined (Djedidi, 2009). Refinement often leads to the improvement of the ontology level of detailcorresponding to the addition of new elements to its conceptualization. Therefore the ontology size may in- crease after each refinement iteration, with no guaranty that the ontology is still manageable by applications and understandable by humans.In the literature, ontology views have been defined to bridge this ontology size issue and improve ontology reusability. Several definitions and implementations of ontology views have been studied in the Ontology View Management specific research field. However no agreement was found. Nevertheless, a view generally is a subset specification on an ontology, which allows to extract a manageable portion of the ontology capable to be used and queried by applications like the whole ontology. The resulting sub-ontology can be generated not only as a sub-graph of the ontology but also as an independent ontology, itself being a new interpreta- tion of the domain. It can be considered as a new parallel version of the actual ontology validating the decentralized quality of ontologies. From the different approaches studied in this article, can be deduced four types of view specification and implementation: query language based, subset extraction based, rule based and other views specifications based on hybrid techniques.This article aims at giving an overall state of the art on ontology views, their objectives, their different implementations and use, the corresponding advantages and lacks, and finally defining the future research directions to take in the context of Ontology Change Management.

Abstract: International audience; Facility management (FM) or technical property management is an approach to operate, maintain, improve and adapt buildings and infrastructures of organizations. A FM project requires the cooperation of many actors from different domains so it has to be automated in a constrained collaborative environment. This paper proposes a new approach for ontology change management applied on facility management of such projects. The industrial challenge is, firstly, to ensure consistency of a FM project knowledge from the construction phase to the technical property management phase (after delivery). Secondly, it has to provide to each actor of the project a personal up-to-date “view” of the building knowledge related to its business profile and allow its evolution. The scientific approach, called OntoVersionGraph, is a change management methodology for managing ontology life cycle including ontology evolution and versioning features, in conjunction with contextual view modeling. Its contribution is the impact management of changes between the ontology and its different views.

Abstract: International audience; This work is part of a global project to develop a recommender system of economic news articles. Its objectives are threefold: (i) automatically multi-classify the economic new articles, (ii) recommend the articles by comparing the profiles of the users and the multi-classification of the articles, and (iii) managing the vocabulary of the economic news domain to improve the system based on the seamlessly intervention of the documentalists. In this paper we focus on the automatic multi-classification of the articles and the respective description and justification to the documentalists. While several multi-classification solutions exist they are not automatically adaptable to the problem in hands as their description of the resulting multi-classification lacks substantial correlation with the documentalists perspective. In fact, we need to consider not only the automatic classification but also the supervision of the classification and its evolution based on the documentalists supervision of the automatic classification. Accordingly, it is necessary to provide a mechanism that bridges the gap between the automatic classification mechanisms and the documentalists thesaurus, in order to support their seamless supervision of classification and of thesaurus management. Ontologies are central to our proposal, as they are used to represent and manage the thesaurus, to describe the content of the articles, and finally to automatically multi-classify them via inference process. Also, we adopt a machine learning approach for generating a prediction model for supporting the automatic classification. This paper presents a proposal for enriching the documentalist-oriented ontology with the model prediction rules, which provides the necessary capabilities to the DL reasoner for automatic multi-classification.

Abstract: International audience; In the area of building construction and management, the dematerial-ization of data and processes has been a global issue for the past 10 years. Go-ing beyond the geometric representation of a building, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an approach that aims at integrating into one single system heterogeneous data and processes from different actors. Such integration is a complex and fastidious task. The implementation of the related processes for data querying, retrieval or modification is not less difficult. To tackle this prob-lem, we have developed a novel approach based on Semantic Web technolo-gies. In doing so, we have defined an ontology inspired on IFC standard for rep-resenting building information. On top of this ontology, we have defined and implemented a set of SWRL rules. The paper at hand describes these rules and their application in the context of building information handling (notably by means of IFC files)

Au-delà de la simple représentation géométrique d'un bâtiment, le BIM s'impose petit à petit comme un système d'information coopératif complexe, intégrant avec difficulté les données et pratiques hétérogènes des différents acteurs du domaine. La restitution intégrée de ces données aux usagers du bâtiment est une opération délicate. Pour répondre à ce verrou, nous utilisons une approche sémantique de représentation du bâtiment et particulièrement de la norme IFC. Cette approche permet d'extraire des fichiers IFC valides, partiels, à partir d'un fichier IFC modélisant l'intégralité du bâtiment.

Abstract: The world changes over time, impacting the knowledge of every subdomain it contains. Therefore systems describing the knowledge of a certain domain should be able to consider changes occurred to keep its knowledge representation up-to-date. Formal ontologies are one of them: they explicitly and formally represent the knowledge of a domain in all its forms and modes of existence. Collaboratively developed, a formal ontology allows the domain users to understand each other by sharing the same terminology despite the different assumptions they have on the domain conceptualization. However, due to its completeness, the complexity of its conceptualization can sometimes make the domain knowledge inaccessible for its users. Also domain users often need to access only a subset of this knowledge. Light sub-portions of the ontology or views defined by their assumptions should then be produced to provide domain users a personalized and comprehensive view of the domain knowledge described by the ontology. Considering such ontology, the world changes may impact both domain knowledge and users assumptions and their application can turn inconsistent the knowledge represented by the ontology and its views. However, an inconsistent ontology is no longer usable by the domain community. Ontology change management should ensure maintaining its consistency, so that its users can continue to cooperate and understand each other. Also, a formal ontology requires a collaborative development to take into account every domain user assumption, so does its change management. The problem is the following: how to enable collaborative ontology change management considering changes in the domain and new domain users assumptions? Until now, existing research in the Semantic Web does not allow such change management for formal ontologies. The contribution of my thesis therefore consists in designing an approach to ontology change management dedicated to formal ontologies enabling: the specification of ontology views based on new domain users assumptions, the consistent collaborative evolution of the ontology and its views, and the change impact management between them.; Le monde change au fil du temps. Cela impacte la connaissance de chaque sous-domaine qu'il contient. Par conséquent, les systèmes décrivant la connaissance d'un certain sous-domaine du monde devraient être en mesure de tenir compte de ses changements afin de maintenir la représentation de ses connaissances à jour. L’ontologie formelle est l'un d'eux: elle représente explicitement et formellement la connaissance d'un domaine sous toutes ses formes et modes d'existence. Développée en collaboration par des experts du domaine, elle permet aux usagers d’un domaine de se comprendre en partageant la même terminologie sur ce domaine, malgré les différentes hypothèses que ceux-ci portent sur sa conceptualisation. Toutefois, à cause de son exhaustivité, la complexité de sa conceptualisation peut parfois rendre inaccessible la connaissance du domaine à ses usagers. Aussi les usagers du domaine n’ont souvent besoin d’accéder qu’à un sous-ensemble de celle-ci. Des sous-portions de l’ontologie ou vues définies selon leurs hypothèses devraient donc être produites pour leur fournir une vue personnalisée et compréhensible de la connaissance décrite par celle-ci. Considérant une telle ontologie, les changements du monde peuvent avoir un impact à la fois sur la connaissance du domaine mais aussi sur les hypothèses de ses usagers. Cependant, leur application peut rendre incohérente la connaissance représentée par l'ontologie et par ses vues usagers. Aussi, une ontologie incohérente n'est plus utilisable par la communauté. La gestion du changement de l'ontologie doit assurer le maintien de sa cohérence afin que les usagers du domaine puissent continuer à coopérer et à se comprendre. Comme une ontologie formelle requiert un développement collaboratif pour prendre en compte chaque hypothèse usager, il en va de sa gestion du changement. Le problème est donc le suivant : comment mener une gestion du changement collaborative dédiée aux ontologies formelles prenant en compte les changements survenus dans le domaine ainsi que les nouvelles hypothèses usager ? Les travaux de recherche existant au sein du Web sémantique ne permettent actuellement pas une telle gestion du changement ontologique. C’est pourquoi la contribution de ma thèse consiste à concevoir une approche de gestion du changement dédiée aux ontologies formelles, permettant : la spécification de vues usagers sur une ontologie sur la base de nouvelles hypothèses usagers, l'évolution collaborative et cohérente de l'ontologie et de ses vues, et la gestion de l’impact des changements entre celles-ci.

Abstract: International audience; On the Web, pages are often dynamically generated and allow publishers to individually adapt contents to each viewer. Underlying systems must correctly understand the user's context - crucial especially in the case of online advertisement placement. The article at hand describes our proposition of a novel profiling system, adapted to the special needs of digital advertising. Based on Semantic Web Technologies, the MindMinings system relies on an ontology to enable thorough understanding of each user's context and needs. The underlying ontology structure also provides enhanced interoperability with semantically annotated knowledge resources, notably vocabularies from the Linked Open Data cloud. All components in the context of this project have been defined in close collaboration with an industrial partner from the digital advertising domain. Therefore, developments made for the system have been verified to be adapted to an application in an industrial context. In this article, we describe system's architecture, issues encountered during its development and envisaged solutions.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper, we present a spatial model designed to extract knowledge from the tracks of moving objects. The model uses a perdurantism approach, implemented using Semantic Web technologies. In order to show the capabilities of the model, we employ it to handle a large dataset composed of historic maritime records. By using Semantic Web tools, we are able to implement rules and identify user defined patterns. Although there are limitations due to currently available tools, our results are promising.

Abstract: International audience; La reconstruction de scénarios est l’une des étapes les plus importantes d’une investigation numérique. Elle permet aux enquêteurs d’avoir une vue des évènements survenus durant un incident. La reconstruction de scénarios est une tâche complexe requérant l’étude d’un très grand nombre d’évènements en raison de l’omniprésence des nouvelles technologies dans notre quotidien. De plus, les conclusions produites se doivent de respecter les critères fixés par la justice. Afin de répondre à ces challenges, nous proposons une nouvelle méthodologie, basée sur une ontologie intégrant les connaissances d’experts des domaines de la criminalistique et de l’ingénierie logicielle, permettant d’assister les enquêteurs tout au long du processus d’enquête.

Abstract: National audience; Les Systèmes d'Information Géographique se sont peu à peu imposés comme des outils performants pour organiser, représenter, analyser et visualiser des données géographiques. Toutefois, l'intégration d'une dimension temporelle dans les SIG reste un défi de la recherche en sciences de l'information géographique. Dès lors, le développement de modèles spatio-temporels adaptés à l'étude de phénomènes géographiques réels devient un enjeu majeur dans la conception de systèmes d'informations dédiés à l'évolution d'entités spatiales. Dans ces travaux, nous proposons un nouveau modèle spatio-temporel basé sur une ontologie intégrant les connaissances des experts sur les données géographiques représentées. A terme, les capacités sémantiques proposées dans ce modèle permettent d'assister les experts dans la représentation et l'analyse d'un phénomène spatio-temporel en prenant en compte les informations contextuelles de l'environnement géographique.

Abstract: Today in the commercial and financial sectors, staying informed about economic news is crucial and involves targeting good articles to read, because the huge amount of information. To address this problem, we propose an innovative article recommendation system, based on the integration of a semantic description of articles and on a knowledge ontological model. We support our recommendation system on an intrinsically efficient vector model that we have perfected to overcome the confusion existing in models between the concepts of similarity and relevancy that does not take into account the effects of the difference in the accuracy of the semantic descriptions precision between profiles and articles, on the perceived relevancy to the user. We present in this paper a new evaluation of the relevancy adapted to vector model., De nos jours dans les secteurs commerciaux et financiers la veille électronique d’articles économiques est cruciale. Maintenir une veille efficace implique de cibler les articles à consulter, car la charge d’information est importante. Pour répondre à cette problématique, nous proposons un système novateur de recommandation d’articles, car il s’appuie sur l’intégration d’une description sémantique des items et des profils basés sur une modélisation ontologique des connaissances. Nous appuyons notre système de recommandation sur un modèle vectoriel intrinsèquement efficace que nous avons perfectionné pour pallier la confusion native de ces modèles entre les notions de similarité et de pertinence qui ne permet pas de prendre en compte les effets de la différence dans la précision des descriptions sémantiques des profils et articles, sur la perception de la pertinence pour l’utilisateur. Nous présentons donc dans cet article une nouvelle méthode d’évaluation de la pertinence adaptée au modèle vectoriel.

Abstract: International audience; In this paper we present the "continuum model". Our work follows a "perdurantism" approach and is designed to handle dynamic phenomena extending the 4D-fluent with the use of semantic web technologies. In our approach we represent dynamic entities as constituted by timeslices each with semantic, geometric, temporal and identity components. Our model is able to link the diverse representations of an entity and allows the inference of qualitative information from quantitative one. The inference results are later added to the ontology in order to improve knowledge about the phenomenon. The model has been implemented using OWL and SWRL. Our preliminary results are promising and we plan to further develop the model in the near future to increase the suitable data sources.

Abstract: International audience; Contractors, commercial and business decision-makers need economical information to drive their decisions. The production and distribution of a press review about French regional economic actors represents a tool for prospecting partners and competitors for the businessman. Our goal is to propose a customized review for each user, thus reducing the overload of useless information. Several news recommendation systems already exist. The usefulness of external knowledge sources to improve the process has already been explained in information retrieval. The system’s knowledge base includes the domain knowledge used during the recommendation process. Our recommender system’s architecture is standard, but during the indexing task, the representations for each article’s content and for each interest from the users’ profiles created are based on this domain knowledge. Articles and Profiles are semantically defined in the Knowledge base via concepts, instances and relations. This paper deals with the relevance measure, a critical sub-task in recommendation systems and the relationships between this metric and similarity concepts. The Vector Space Model is a well-known model used for relevance ranking. First, the problem exposed here concerns the use of the standard VSM method along with our indexing method. Then, we test our approach by means of practical tests, such as classic precision recall, and more specific evaluation methods to compare ranking results. Finally, we expose evaluation results of our recommendation algorithm and discuss the case of multilabeled items.

Abstract: International audience; Currently, vast amounts of geospatial information are o ffered through OGC's services. However this information has limited formal semantics. The most common method to search for a dataset consists in matching keywords to metadata elements. By adding semantics to available descriptions we could use modern inference and reasoning mechanisms currently available in the SemanticWeb. In this paper we present a novel architecture currently in development in which we use state of the art triplestores as the backend of a CSW service. In our approach, each metadata record is considered an instance of a given class in a domain ontology. Our architecture also adds a spatial dataset of features with toponym values. Abstract: Ontology development starts with a rigorous ontological analysis that provides a conceptualization of the domain to model agreed by the community. An ontology, specified in a formal language, approximates the intended models of this conceptualization. It needs then to be revised and refined until an ontological commitment is found. Also ulterior updates, responding to changes in the domain and/or the conceptualization, are expected to occur throughout the ontology life cycle. To handle a consistent application of changes, a couple of ontology evolution methodologies have been proposed. Maintaining the structural consistency is one of the ontology evolution criteria. It implies modeling changes with respect to how the constructs of the ontology language are used. However there is no ontology model, among those proposed, that allows to exhaustively describe changes and their impact for languages based on SHOIN(D) description logic. To bridge this gap, this paper presents a complete structural ontology model suited for change modeling on SHOIN(D) ontologies. The application of this model is illustrated along the paper through the description of an ontology example inspired by the UOBM ontology benchmark and its evolution.

Abstract: pp. 363-372; International audience; The success of shaping the e-society is crucially dependent on how well technology adapts to the needs of each single user. A thorough understanding of one's personality, interests, and social connections facilitate the integration of ICT solutions into one's everyday life. The MindMinings project aims to build an advanced user profile, based on the automatic processing of a user's navigation traces on the Web. Given the various needs underpinned by our goal (e.g. integration of heterogeneous sources and automatic content extraction), we have selected Semantic Web technologies for their capacity to deliver machine-processable information. Indeed, we have to deal with web-based information known to be highly heterogeneous. Using descriptive languages such as OWL for managing the information contained in Web documents, we allow an automatic analysis, processing and exploitation of the related knowledge. Moreover, we use semantic technology in addition to machine learning techniques, in order to build a very expressive user profile model, including not only isolated "drops" of information, but inter-connected and machine-interpretable information. All developed methods are applied to a concrete industrial need: the analysis of user navigation on the Web to deduct patterns for content recommendation.

Abstract: International audience; Distinguishing objective(OBJ) semantic from subjective(SUBJ) semantic is essential to information processing of either explicit design formalization or implicit natural language(NL) communication of projects' implementation. We summarized our past experience of solutions for semantic knowledge management projects. An adopted hypothesis is that among the tremendous and rapid increasing information, there is a relative stable core which can map/relate to every specific piece of information uniformly starting from the discussion on existence and conceptualization. The mapping will result in an expansion formalization based on open world assumption (OWA) and closed world assumption (CWA). This formalization can be widely applied for guiding semantic formalization and validation. We show initial applications on transformations from SUBJ to OBJ, etc.

Abstract: 10 pages; International audience; Contractors, commercial and business decision-makers need economical information to drive their decisions. The production and distribution of a press review about French regional economic actors represents a prospecting tool on partners and competitors for the businessman. Our goal is to propose a customized review for each user, thus reducing the overload of useless information. Some systems for recommending news items already exist. The usefulness of external knowledge to improve the process has already been explained in information retrieval. The system's knowledge base in-cludes the domain knowledge used during the recommendation process. Our recommender system architecture is standard, but during the indexing task, the representations of content of each article and interests of users' profiles created are based on this domain knowledge. Articles and Profiles are semantically defined in the Knowledge base via concepts, instances and relations. This paper deals with the relevance measure, a critical sub-task in recommendation systems and relationships between relevance and similarity concepts. The Vector Space Model is a well-known model used for relevance ranking. The problematic exposed here is the utilization of the standard VSM method with our indexing method.

Abstract: International audience; Due to the increasing availability of large unstructured point clouds from lasers scanning and photogrammetry, there is a growing demand for automatic evaluation methods. Given the complexity of the underlying problems, several new methods resort to using semantic knowledge in particular for object detection and classification support. In this paper, we present a novel approach, which makes use of advanced algorithms, and benefits from intelligent knowledge management strategies for the processing of 3D point clouds and object classification in a scanned scene. In particular, our method extends the use of semantic knowledge to all stages of the processing, including the guidance of the 3D processing algorithms. The complete solution consists of a multi-stage, iterative, concept based on three factors: the modeled knowledge, the package of algorithms, and the classification engine.

Abstract: International audience; There is a growing need for the study of spatial-temporal objects and their relationships. A common approach for this task is the use of relational databases, which unfortunately do not allow inference. In this research we introduce a new approach that uses the concept of "continuum" together with ontologies and semantic web technologies. The "continuum" allows us to defi ne parent-child relationships between representations of objects. It also allows us to compare the evolution of two diff erent objects and establish the relationships between them along time. Our approach is based on the 4D fluent, which is extended to obtain spatial-temporal qualitative information from the analysis of objects and their relationships. The results of our analysis are later added to our knowledge base enhancing it. Our preliminary results are promising and we plan to further develop the model in the near future.
