Orthorhombic olivine-structured LiTmRO4 (R = Si, Ge) ceramics were synthesized using a solid-state reaction. Promising microwave dielectric properties of εr = 8.18, τf = 13.7 ppm/°C and a high-quality factor (Q × f) of 24,274 GHz for LiTmSiO4 were obtained at 1130 °C, and εr = 8.67, τf = − 24.4 ppm/°C and Q × f = 19,231 GHz for LiTmGeO4 were achieved at 1090 °C. According to the bond valence results, Tm3+ and Ge4+ presented a compressed state, but Li+ exhibited a strong rattling state in LiTmGeO4, which led to a higher εr than εtheo. The integrated effect of the rattling cations (Li+ and Si4+) and a compressed cation (Tm3+) in LiTmSiO4 resulted in a smaller positive deviation ∆εr. The larger packing fraction of LiTmSiO4 contributed to a higher Q × f than that of LiTmGeO4. The R–O bond in both ceramics played a leading role in influencing Q × f according to the Phillips–Van Vechten–Levine chemical bond theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Powdery mildew is an important disease of rubber trees worldwide. To assess the effects of temperature and leaf age on conidial germination and disease development, conidia were inoculated onto rubber tree seedlings with leaves at three phenological stages (copper bronze, colour‐changing, and light green) and then incubated at six constant temperatures (10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35°C). Leaf age did not affect conidial germination (p =.296) whilst temperature did (p <.0001), although conidia were able to germinate at all tested temperatures. The estimated optimal temperature for conidial germination was 23.2°C. Leaf age, temperature, and their interactions had significant effects on conidial infection and hypha number (p <.0001). At 10 and 35°C, more than 2 and 4 days were needed for infection to complete, respectively, compared to <2, 1, 0.5, and 0.5 days for 15, 20, 25, and 35°C, respectively. Sporulation and mildew symptoms were only observed on those inoculated leaves of all stages at 20 and 25°C, and at the copper bronze stage only at 15°C. The latent period on the copper bronze leaves at 15°C was longer (9 days) than at 20 and 25°C (4 days). The latent period at 20 and 25°C increased from 4 to 7 days as the leaf development stage increased from copper bronze to light green. Therefore, temperature affected germination and postgermination growth of rubber tree powdery mildew, whereas leaf age primarily affected postgermination growth of the pathogen. We previously reported that oroxylin A, a γ-aminobutyric acid A (GABA) receptor antagonist, ameliorates drugs-induced memory impairments. We synthesized several oroxylin A derivatives in efforts to find a substance that has pro-cognitive effects as well as improves sensorimotor gating. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of a novel oroxylin A derivative, 5,7-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-2(4-phenoxyphenyl)-4 H-chromene-4-one (DMPC), on pharmacological models of schizophrenia, which exhibit memory impairment and sensorimotor gating deficit. Memory impairment was induced by scopolamine, a muscarinic receptor antagonist, or MK-801, an N-methyl- d-aspartate receptor antagonist. Sensorimotor gating deficits were induced by MK-801 and measured by prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the acoustic startle response task. DMPC treatment (20 mg/kg) significantly attenuated scopolamine- or MK-801-induced memory impairment and it even enhanced cognitive performance of normal animals. Furthermore, DMPC significantly ameliorated MK-801-induced PPI deficits in the acoustic startle response task. In an in vitro study, DMPC (20 μM) inhibited intracellular Cl influx induced by muscimol, a selective GABA receptor agonist. These results suggest that DMPC would be a potential candidate for alleviating cognitive dysfunction and sensorimotor gating deficits in schizophrenia, and that its effects may be mediated, in part, via blockade of the GABAergic neurotransmitter system. Abstract: A series of 1,5-diarylimidazoles with 4-methylsulfonylphenyl group were prepared and evaluated for the inhibitory activities against COX-2 catalyzed PGE2 production from LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Most of synthesized 1,5-diarylimidazoles exhibited strong inhibitory activities regardless of the position of the 4-methylsulfonylphenyl group. The 1,5-diarylimidazoles with a halogen atom (3c–3h, 3n–3p) gave mostly excellent inhibitory activities regardless of the position and species of the halogen atom. Whereas the 1,5-diarylimidazoles with two fluorine atoms (3k, 3l, 3r, 3s) showed rather reduced inhibitory activities. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Codiaeum variegatum is a valuable ornamental plant with distinct bright yellowing and golden spots on dark green leaves, which resemble virus symptoms. To investigate the factors, especially viral agents, associated with the variegated leaf color of Codiaeum variegatum, we performed virome profiling of a single C. variegatum 'Gold Dust' leaf sample collected from Hainan, China using ribosomal RNA-depleted total RNA sequencing on an Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform. Two novel viruses, with two variants each, belonging to the family Closteroviridae were detected and characterized: Croton golden spot-associated virus C variants 1 and 2 (CGSaVC-v1, and CGSaVC-v2) of the genus Crinivirus and Croton golden spot-associated virus A variants 1 and 2 (CGSaVA-v1 and CGSaVA-v2) of the genus Ampelovirus. Transmission electron microscopy showed long, flexuous, filamentous virus particles approximately 15 nm in diameter and 760-770 nm in length. Molecular screening of ninety-seven variegated individual plant leaves showed a high prevalence of CGSaVA-v1 (90.7%), CGSaVA-v2 (75.3 %), CGSaVC-v1 (70.1%), and CGSaVC-v2 (47.4%), while asymptomatic leaves near the meristem tip were mostly free of the target viruses. To our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate the significant association between closterovirids and the golden spots. The findings provide novel insights into the genetic diversity of the family Closteroviridae and inform future germplasm conservation and new cultivar development of Codiaeum Variegatum.
