Abstract

The summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,717 new measurements from 869 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Most of the 120 reviews are updated, including many that are heavily revised. The is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group () and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the . Abstract

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) embarked on an ambitious 5 yr survey in 2021 May to explore the nature of dark energy with spectroscopic measurements of 40 million galaxies and quasars. DESI will determine precise redshifts and employ the baryon acoustic oscillation method to measure distances from the nearby universe to beyond redshift z > 3.5, and employ redshift space distortions to measure the growth of structure and probe potential modifications to general relativity. We describe the significant instrumentation we developed to conduct the DESI survey. This includes: a wide-field, 3.°2 diameter prime-focus corrector; a focal plane system with 5020 fiber positioners on the 0.812 m diameter, aspheric focal surface; 10 continuous, high-efficiency fiber cable bundles that connect the focal plane to the spectrographs; and 10 identical spectrographs. Each spectrograph employs a pair of dichroics to split the light into three channels that together record the light from 360-980 nm with a spectral resolution that ranges from 2000-5000. We describe the science requirements, their connection to the technical requirements, the management of the project, and interfaces between subsystems. DESI was installed at the 4 m Mayall Telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory and has achieved all of its performance goals. Some performance highlights include an rms positioner accuracy of better than 0.″1 and a median signal-to-noise ratio of 7 of the [O ii] doublet at 8 × 10-17 erg s-1 cm-2 in 1000 s for galaxies at z = 1.4-1.6. We conclude with additional highlights from the on-sky validation and commissioning, key successes, and lessons learned.

Abstract

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) has embarked on an ambitiousfive-year survey to explore the nature of dark energy with spectroscopy of 40million galaxies and quasars. DESI will determine precise redshifts and employthe Baryon Acoustic Oscillation method to measure distances from the nearbyuniverse to z > 3.5, as well as measure the growth of structure and probepotential modifications to general relativity. In this paper we describe thesignificant instrumentation we developed for the DESI survey. The newinstrumentation includes a wide-field, 3.2-deg diameter prime-focus correctorthat focuses the light onto 5020 robotic fiber positioners on the 0.812 mdiameter, aspheric focal surface. The positioners and their fibers are dividedamong ten wedge-shaped petals. Each petal is connected to one of tenspectrographs via a contiguous, high-efficiency, nearly 50 m fiber cablebundle. The ten spectrographs each use a pair of dichroics to split the lightinto three channels that together record the light from 360 - 980 nm with aresolution of 2000 to 5000. We describe the science requirements, technicalrequirements on the instrumentation, and management of the project. DESI wasinstalled at the 4-m Mayall telescope at Kitt Peak, and we also describe thefacility upgrades to prepare for DESI and the installation and functionalverification process. DESI has achieved all of its performance goals, and theDESI survey began in May 2021. Some performance highlights include RMSpositioner accuracy better than 0.1", SNR per \sqrt{\AA} > 0.5 for a z > 2quasar with flux 0.28e-17 erg/s/cm^2/A at 380 nm in 4000s, and median SNR = 7of the [OII] doublet at 8e-17 erg/s/cm^2 in a 1000s exposure for emission linegalaxies at z = 1.4 - 1.6. We conclude with highlights from the on-skyvalidation and commissioning of the instrument, key successes, and lessonslearned. (abridged)

Abstract

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), a multiplexed fiber-fed spectrograph, is a Stage-IV ground-based dark energy experiment aiming to measure redshifts for 29 million Emission-Line Galaxies (ELG), 4 million Luminous Red Galaxies (LRG), and 2 million Quasi-Stellar Objects (QSO). The survey design includes a pattern of tiling on the sky, the locations of the fiber positioners in the focal plane of the telescope, and an observation strategy determined by a fiber assignment algorithm that optimizes the allocation of fibers to targets. This strategy allows a given region to be covered on average five times for a five-year survey, with a typical variation of about 1.5 about the mean, which imprints a spatially-dependent pattern on the galaxy clustering. We investigate the systematic effects of the fiber assignment coverage on the anisotropic galaxy clustering of ELGs and show that, in the absence of any corrections, it leads to discrepancies of order ten percent on large scales for the power spectrum multipoles. We introduce a method where objects in a random catalog are assigned a coverage, and the mean density is separately computed for each coverage factor. We show that this method reduces, but does not eliminate the effect. We next investigate the angular dependence of the contaminated signal, arguing that it is mostly localized to purely transverse modes. We demonstrate that the cleanest way to remove the contaminating signal is to perform an analysis of the anisotropic power spectrum P(k,μ) and remove the lowest μ bin, leaving μ > 0 modes accurate at the few-percent level. Here, μ is the cosine of the angle between the line-of-sight and the direction of K→. We also investigate two alternative definitions of the random catalog and show that they are comparable but less effective than the coverage randoms method.

Abstract

We present a simple strategy to mitigate the impact of an incomplete spectroscopic redshift galaxy sample as a result of fiber assignment and survey tiling. The method has been designed for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) galaxy survey but may have applications beyond this. We propose a modification to the usual correlation function that nulls the almost purely angular modes affected by survey incompleteness due to fiber assignment. Predictions of this modified statistic can be calculated given a model of the two point correlation function. The new statistic can be computed with a slight modification to the data catalogues input to the standard correlation function code and does not incur any additional computational time. Finally we show that the spherically averaged baryon acoustic oscillation signal is not biased by the new statistic.

Abstract

The Review summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 3,062 new measurements from 721 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. All the particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We also give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Among the 117 reviews are many that are new or heavily revised, including those on Pentaquarks and Inflation. The complete Review is published online in a journal and on the website of the Particle Data Group (http://pdg.lbl.gov). The printed PDG Book contains the Summary Tables and all review articles but no longer includes the detailed tables from the Particle Listings. A Booklet with the Summary Tables and abbreviated versions of some of the review articles is also available.

Abstract

This document presents the results from the Distances subgroup of the Cosmic Frontier Community Planning Study (Snowmass 2013). We summarize the current state of the field as well as future prospects and challenges. In addition to the established probes using Type Ia supernovae and baryon acoustic oscillations, we also consider prospective methods based on clusters, active galactic nuclei, gravitational wave sirens and strong lensing time delays.

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book containsa brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors,BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools andmethods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The resultsthemselves can be found in Part C. Please note that version 3 on the archive is the auxiliary version of thePhysics of the B Factories book. This uses the notation alpha, beta, gamma forthe angles of the Unitarity Triangle. The BaBar detector operated successfully at the PEP-II asymmetric e +e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from 1999 to 2008. Abstract

This white paper is a condensation of a report by a committee appointedjointly by the Nuclear Science and Physics Divisions at Lawrence BerkeleyNational Laboratory (LBNL). The goal of this study was to identify the mostpromising technique(s) for resolving the neutrino mass hierarchy. For the mostpart, we have relied on calculations and simulations presented by theproponents of the various experiments. We have included evaluations of theopportunities and challenges for these experiments based on what is availablealready in the literature.

Abstract

We present evidence of D{0}-D[-over ]{0} mixing using a time-dependent amplitude analysis of the decay D{0}-->K+pi{-}pi;{0} in a data sample of 384 fb{-1} collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e{-} collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Assuming CP conservation, we measure the mixing parameters x{Kpipi{0}}{'}=[2.61{-0.68}{+0.57}(stat)+/-0.39(syst)]%, y{Kpipi;{0}}{'}=[-0.06{-0.64}{+0.55}(stat)+/-0.34(syst)]%. This result is inconsistent with the no-mixing hypothesis with a significance of 3.2 standard deviations. We find no evidence of CP violation in mixing.

Abstract

We present a study of the decays B0→D0K*0 and B0→D̄0K*0 with K*0→K+π-. The D0 and the D̄0 mesons are reconstructed in the final states f=K+π-, K+π-π0, K+π-π+π-, and their charge conjugates. Using a sample of 465×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we measure the ratio RADS[Γ(B̄0→[f] DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f̄]DK*0)]/[Γ(B̄0→ [f̄]DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f]DK*0)] for the three final states. We do not find significant evidence for a signal and set the following limits at 95% probability: RADS(Kπ)

Abstract

We present a study of B decays into semileptonic final states containing charged and neutral D1(2420) and D_{2};{*}(2460). The analysis is based on a data sample of 208 fb;{-1} collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC. With a simultaneous fit to four different decay chains, the semileptonic branching fractions are extracted from measurements of the mass difference Deltam=m(D;{**})-m(D) distributions. Product branching fractions are determined to be B(B;{+}-->D_{1};{0}l;{+}nu_{l})xB(D_{1};{0}-->D;{*+}pi;{-})=(2.97+/-0.17+/-0.17)x10;{-3}, B(B;{+}-->D_{2};{*0}l;{+}nu_{l})xB(D_{2};{*0}-->D;{(*)+}pi;{-})=(2.29+/-0.23+/-0.21)x10;{-3}, B(B;{0}-->D_{1};{-}l;{+}nu_{l})xB(D_{1};{-}-->D;{*0}pi;{-})=(2.78+/-0.24+/-0.25)x10;{-3} and B(B;{0}-->D_{2};{*-}l;{+}nu_{l})xB(D_{2};{*-}-->D;{(*)0}pi;{-})=(1.77+/-0.26+/-0.11)x10;{-3}. In addition we measure the branching ratio Gamma(D_{2};{*}-->Dpi;{-})/Gamma(D_{2};{*}-->D;{(*)}pi;{-})=0.62+/-0.03+/-0.02.

Abstract

We report the results of a search for Z(4430)- decay to J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- in B-,0→J/ψπ-K0,+ and B-,0→ψ(2S)π-K0,+ decays. The data were collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider operating at center-of-mass energy 10.58 GeV, and the sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 413fb-1. Each Kπ- mass distribution exhibits clear K*(892) and K2*(1430) signals, and the efficiency-corrected spectrum is well described by a superposition of the associated Breit-Wigner intensity distributions, together with an S-wave contribution obtained from the LASS I=1/2 Kπ- scattering amplitude measurements. Each Kπ- angular distribution varies significantly in structure with Kπ- mass, and is represented in terms of low-order Legendre polynomial moments. We find that each J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution is well described by the reflection of the measured Kπ- mass and angular distribution structures. We see no significant evidence for a Z(4430)- signal for any of the processes investigated, neither in the total J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution, nor in the corresponding distributions for the regions of Kπ- mass for which observation of the Z(4430)- signal was reported. We obtain branching-fraction upper limits B(B-→Z-K̄0,Z- →J/ψπ-)

Abstract

Using a sample of 383 x 10;{6} BB[over ] events collected by the BABAR experiment, we measure sums of seven exclusive final states B-->X_{d(s)}gamma, where X_{d}(X_{s}) is a nonstrange (strange) charmless hadronic system in the mass range 0.6-1.8 GeV/c;{2}. After correcting for unmeasured decay modes in this mass range, we obtain a branching fraction for b-->dgamma of (7.2+/-2.7(stat)+/-2.3(syst))x10;{-6}. Taking the ratio of X_{d} to X_{s} we find Gamma(b-->dgamma)/Gamma(b-->sgamma)=0.033+/-0.013(stat)+/-0.009(syst), from which we determine |V_{td}/V_{ts}|=0.177+/-0.043.

Abstract

We present constraints on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle with a Dalitz analysis of neutral D decays to KSπ+π- from the processes B0→D̄0K*0 (B̄0→D0K̄*0) and B0→D0K*0 (B̄0→D̄0K̄*0) with K*0→K+π- (K̄*0→K-π+). Using a sample of 371×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at PEP-II, we constrain the angle γ as a function of rS, the magnitude of the average ratio between b→u and b→c amplitudes. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

In a search for B-->cc[over ]gammaK decays with the BABAR detector, where cc[over ] includes J/psi and psi(2S), and K includes K(+/-), K(S)(0), and K(*)(892), we find evidence for X(3872)-->J/psigamma and X(3872)-->psi(2S)gamma with 3.6sigma and 3.5sigma significance, respectively. We measure the product of branching fractions B(B(+/-)-->X(3872)K(+/-))xB(X(3872)-->J/psigamma)=[2.8+/-0.8(stat)+/-0.1(syst)]x10(-6) and B(B(+/-)-->X(3872)K(+/-))xB(X(3872)-->psi(2S)gamma)=[9.5+/-2.7(stat)+/-0.6(syst)]x10(-6).

Abstract

We present new measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries for B0→D(*)+D(*)- decays using (467±5)×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector located at the PEP-II B Factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We determine the CP-odd fraction of the B0→D*+D*- decays to be R =0.158±0.028±0.006 and find CP asymmetry parameters S+=-0.76±0.16±0.04 and C+=+0.00±0.12±0.02 for the CP-even component of this decay and S =-1.80±0.70±0.16 and C =+0.41±0.49±0.08 for the CP-odd component. We measure S=-0.63±0.36±0.05 and C=-0.07±0.23±0.03 for B0→D+D-, S=-0.62±0.21±0. 03 and C=+0.08±0.17±0.04 for B0→D*+D-, and S=-0.73±0.23±0.05 and C=+0.00±0.17±0.03 for B0→D+D*-. For the B0→D*±D decays, we also determine the CP-violating asymmetry A=+0.008±0.048±0.013. In each case, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured values for the asymmetries are all consistent with the standard model. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We measure branching fractions and integrated rate asymmetries for the rare decays B-->K(*)l+l-, where l+l- is either e+e- or micro+micro-, using a sample of 384x10(6) BB events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider. We find no evidence for direct CP or lepton-flavor asymmetries. However, for dilepton masses below the J/psi resonance, we find evidence for unexpectedly large isospin asymmetries in both B-->Kl+l- and B-->K*l+l- which differ, respectively, by 3.2sigma and 2.7sigma, including systematic uncertainties, from the standard model expectations.

Abstract

We search for charmless decays of charged B mesons to the three-body final state KS0KS0π+. Using a data sample of 423.7fb-1 collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector, corresponding to (465.1± 5.1)×106 BB̄ pairs, we find no significant signal and determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction of 5.1×10-7. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present a study of the charmless semileptonic B-meson decays B+→ωl+ν and B+→ηl+ν. The analysis is based on 3.83×108 BB̄ pairs recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The ω mesons are reconstructed in the channel ω→π+π-π0 and the η mesons in the channels η→π+π-π0 and η→γγ. We measure the branching fractions B(B+→ωl+ν)=(1.14±0.16stat±0. 08syst)×10-4 and B(B+→ηl+ν)=(0.31±0.06stat±0. 08syst)×10-4. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

Abstract

We use a sample of 384×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider to study angular distributions in the rare decays B→K* + -, where + - is either e+e- or μ+μ-. For low dilepton invariant masses, m 3.2GeV/c2, we measure AFB=0.76-0.32+0.52±0.07 and FL=0.71-0.22+0.20±0.04. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We report e;{+}e;{-}-->bb[over ] cross section measurements by the BABAR experiment performed during an energy scan in the range of 10.54 to 11.20 GeV at the SLAC PEP-II e;{+}e;{-} collider. A total relative error of about 5% is reached in more than 300 center-of-mass energy steps, separated by about 5 MeV. These measurements can be used to derive precise information on the parameters of the Upsilon(10860) and Upsilon(11020) resonances. In particular we show that their widths may be smaller than previously measured.

Abstract

Semileptonic B̄ decays to DXν̄ (=e or μ) are selected by reconstructing D0 and D+ combinations from a sample of 230×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. A global fit to these samples in a three-dimensional space of kinematic variables is used to determine the branching fractions B(B-→D0ν̄)=(2.34±0.03±0.13)% and B(B-→D *0ν̄)=(5.40±0.02±0.21)% where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The fit also determines form-factor parameters in a parametrization based on heavy quark effective theory, resulting in ρD2=1.20±0.04±0.07 for B̄→Dν̄ and ρD*2=1.22±0.02±0.07 for B̄→D*ν̄. These values are used to obtain the product of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| times the form factor at the zero recoil point for both B̄→Dν̄ decays, G(1)|Vcb|=(43.1±0.8±2.3) ×10-3, and for B̄→D*ν̄ decays, F(1)|Vcb|=(35.9±0.2±1.2)×10-3. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present measurements of the CP-violation parameters S and C for the radiative decay B0→ηKS0γ; for B→ηKγ we also measure the branching fractions and for B+→ηK+γ the time-integrated charge asymmetry Ach. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 465×106 BB̄ pairs produced in e+e- annihilation. The results are S=-0.18-0.46+0.49±0.12, C=-0.32-0.39+0.40±0.07, B(B0→ηK0γ)=(7.1-2.0+2.1±0.4)×10-6, B(B+→ηK+γ)=(7.7±1.0±0.4)×10-6, and Ach=(-9.0-9.8+10.4±1.4)×10-2. Abstract

A search for the lepton flavor violating decays τ-→l-KS0 (l=e or μ) has been performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469fb-1, collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- asymmetric energy collider. No statistically significant signal has been observed in either channel and the estimated upper limits on branching fractions are B(τ-→e-KS0)

Abstract

We report a measurement of the branching fractions of B̄→D* *ℓ-ν̄ℓ decays based on 417fb-1 of data collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage rings. Events are selected by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. A fit to the invariant mass differences m(D(*)π)- m(D(*)) is performed to extract the signal yields of the different D** states. We observe the B̄→D**ℓ- ν̄ℓ decay modes corresponding to the four D** states predicted by heavy quark symmetry with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present branching fraction measurements for the radiative decays B+→ρ+γ, B0→ρ0γ, and B0→ωγ. The analysis is based on a data sample of 465×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find B(B+→ρ+γ)=(1.20-0. 37+0.42±0.20)×10-6, B(B0→ρ0γ)=(0.97-0.22+0. 24±0.06)×10-6, and a 90% C.L. upper limit B(B0→ωγ)

Abstract

We present a study of hadronic transitions between Υ(mS) (m=4, 3, 2) and Υ(nS) (n=2, 1) resonances based on 347.5fb-1 of data taken with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings. We report the first observation of Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S) decay with a branching fraction B(Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S))=(1.96±0.06stat±0.09syst) ×10-4 and measure the ratio of partial widths Γ(Υ(4S) →ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(4S)→π+π-Υ(1S))=2. 41±0.40stat±0.12syst. We set 90% CL upper limits on the ratios Γ(Υ(2S)→ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(2S)→π+π- Υ(1S))

Abstract

We present an investigation of the decays B̄0→Λc+p̄ and B-→Λc+p̄π- based on 383×106 Υ(4S) →BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fractions of these decays; their ratio is B(B-→Λc+p̄π-)/ B(B̄0→Λc+p̄)=15.4±1.8±0.3. The B-→Λc+p̄π- process exhibits an enhancement at the Λc+p̄ threshold and is a laboratory for searches for excited charm baryon states. We observe the resonant decays B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ and B-→Σc(2800)0p̄ but see no evidence for B-→Σc(2520) 0p̄. This is the first observation of the decay B-→Σc(2800) 0p̄; however, the mass of the observed excited Σc0 state is (2846±8±10)MeV/c2, which is somewhat inconsistent with previous measurements. Finally, we examine the angular distribution of the B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ decays and measure the spin of the Σc(2455)0 baryon to be 1/2, as predicted by the quark model. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We perform a time-dependent and time-integrated angular analysis of the decays B0→φK*(892)0, φK2*(1430)0, and φ(Kπ)0*0 with the final sample of about 465×106 BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Twenty-four parameters are investigated, including the branching fractions, CP-violation parameters, and parameters sensitive to final-state interactions. We use the dependence on the Kπ invariant mass of the interference between the scalar and vector or tensor components to resolve discrete ambiguities of the strong and weak phases. We use the time evolution of the B→φKS0π0 channel to extract the CP-violation phase difference Δ 00=0.28±0.42±0.04 between the B and B̄ decay amplitudes. When the B→φK±π channel is included, the fractions of longitudinal polarization fL of the vector-vector and vector-tensor decay modes are measured to be 0.494±0.034±0.013 and 0.901-0.058+0.046±0.037, respectively. This polarization pattern requires the presence of a positive-helicity amplitude in the vector-vector decay from a currently unknown source. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

We report a search for the decays B -→K+π-π- and B -→K-K-π+, which are highly suppressed in the standard model. Using a sample of (467±5)×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector, we do not see any evidence of these decays and determine 90% confidence level upper limits of B(B -→K+π-π-)

Abstract

We report a study of B±→D*K± decays with D* decaying to Dπ0 or Dγ, using 383×106 BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B Factory. The D meson decays under study include a non-CP mode (K±π), CP-even modes (K±K,π±π), and CP-odd modes (KS0π0,KS0,KS0ω). We measure ratios (RCP±*) of branching fractions of decays to CP eigenmode states and to flavor-specific states as well as CP asymmetries (ACP±*). These measurements are sensitive to the unitarity triangle angle γ. We obtain ACP+*=-0.11±0.09±0.01, RCP+*=1.31±0.13±0.04, and ACP-*=0.06±0. 10±0.02, RCP-*=1.10±0.12±0.04, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. Translating our results into an alternative parametrization, widely used for related measurements, we obtain x+*=0.11±0.06±0.02 and x-*=0.00±0.06±0. 02. No significant CP-violating charge asymmetry is found in either the flavor-specific mode D→K±π or in B±→D *π± decays. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract

We present the results of searches for B decays to charmless final states involving varphi, f_{0}(980), and charged or neutral rho mesons. The data sample corresponds to 384x10;{6} BB[over ] pairs collected with the BABAR detector operating at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e;{+}e;{-} collider at SLAC. We find no significant signals and determine the following 90% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions, including systematic uncertainties: B(B;{0}-->varphivarphi)varphirho;{+})varphirho;{0})varphif_{0}(980)]xB[f_{0}(980)-->pi;{+}pi;{-}]f_{0}(980)f_{0}(980)]xB[f_{0}(980)-->pi;{+}pi;{-}]xB[f_{0}(980)-->K;{+}K;{-}]

Abstract

We present the observation of the decay B0→χc0K*0 as well as evidence of B+→χc0K*+, with an 8.9 and a 3.6 standard deviation significance, respectively, using a data sample of 454×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B meson factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The measured branching fractions are B(B0→χc0K*0)=(1.7±0. 3±0.2)×10-4 and B(B+→χc0K*+)=(1.4±0. 5±0.2)×10-4, where the first quoted errors are statistical and the second are systematic. We obtain a branching fraction upper limit of B(B+→χc0K*+)

Abstract

We present a search for the decays B→K*νν̄ using 454×106BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We first select an event sample where one B is reconstructed in a semileptonic or hadronic mode with one charmed meson. The remaining particles in the event are then examined to search for a B→K*νν̄ decay. The charged K* is reconstructed as K*+→KS0π+ or K*+→K+π0; the neutral K* is identified in K*0→K+π- mode. We establish upper limits at 90% confidence level of B(B+→K*+νν̄)

Abstract

We perform a measurement of the CP asymmetry in b-->sgamma decays using a sample of 383 x 10(6) B[over] B events collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric B factory. We reconstruct 16 flavor-specific B decay modes containing a high-energy photon and a hadronic system X_(s) containing an s quark. We measure the CP asymmetry to be -0.011+/-0.030(stat)+/-0.014(syst) for a hadronic system mass between 0.6 and 2.8 GeV/c(2).
