2. Biofortified Yellow-Fleshed Potatoes Provide More Absorbable Zinc than a Commonly Consumed Variety: A Randomized Trial Using Stable Isotopes in Women in the Peruvian Highlands.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Zinc-biofortified potatoes have considerable potential to reduce zinc deficiency because of their low levels of phytate, an inhibitor of zinc absorption, and their high consumption, especially in the Andean region of Peru. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to measure fractional and total zinc absorption from a test meal of biofortified compared with regular potatoes. METHODS: We undertook a single-blinded randomized crossover study (using 67Zn and 70Zn stable isotopes) in which 37 women consumed 500-g biofortified or regular potatoes twice a day. Urine samples were collected to determine fractional and total zinc absorption. RESULTS: The zinc content of the biofortified potato and regular potato was 0.48 (standard deviation [SD]: 0.02) and 0.32 (SD: 0.03) mg/100 g fresh weight, respectively. Mean fractional zinc absorption (FZA) from the biofortified potatoes was lower than from the regular potatoes, 20.8% (SD: 5.4%) and 25.5% (SD: 7.0%), respectively (P < 0.01). However, total zinc absorbed was significantly higher (0.49; SD: 0.13 and 0.40; SD: 0.11 mg/500 g, P < 0.01, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study demonstrate that biofortified potatoes provide more absorbable zinc than regular potatoes. Zinc-biofortified potatoes could contribute toward reducing zinc deficiency in populations where potatoes are a staple food. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT05154500.

Abstract

High temperatures affect potato production in the tropics, putting tuber yield and quality at risk and leading to increased glycoalkaloid concentration the cause of the bitter taste in potatoes and a cause for concern for human health. The International Potato Center (CIP), has developed new heat tolerant clones which are heat tolerant and also resistant to late blight. These clones offer an opportunity to evaluate yield and glycoalkaloid levels after growth under high temperature environments. We evaluated four sets of 16 full-sib families and 20 clones for tuber yield and glycoalkaloid content in order to estimate narrow-sense and broad-sense heritability respectively. We used a randomized complete block design replicated in three locations in Peru; San Ramon, La Molina and Majes At harvest, the number and weight of marketable and nonmarketable tubers were recorded. We analyzed samples of tubers from each clone for glycoalkaloid content using spectrophotometry. Narrow-sense heritability for tuber yield, tuber number and average tuber weight were 0.41, 0.50 and 0.83, respectively, indicating that further gains in breeding for heat tolerance will be possible. These were collected from different CIP sweet potatoe genetic trials (GT) located in different agroecological zones (AEZ); West nile AEZ (Abii GT; L. Albert AEZ (Hoima and Buling GTs); Southern highlands (Kabale GT); Lake Victoria Crescent (Namulonge MDP); Western highlands (Rwebitaba MDP); and L.Kyoga basin (Serere GT). The samples were collected in two different seasons of 2021 and 2022. Harvests took place in the second season of 2021 (94 genotypes) (and the first season of 2022 (123 genotypes). Calibrations were done using reference data collected by a sensory panel as well as texture parameters assessed using a texture analyser. Up to twelve cooked roots per genotype were used for sensory evaluation of traits per session. High performances were observed of the calibration for orange color intensity (R2 = 0.92) and dry matter (R2 = 0.71), suggesting that the model is sufficient for field application. The moderate performances of models for sweetpotato aroma, pumpkin aroma and flavor, hardness by hand, fracturability, moisture in mass and mealiness by hand (R2 > 0.50) could be used for initial screening purposes. Most of the calibrations still need improvement.

Abstract

Objetivo: Caracterizar los principales aspectos en relación a las dinámicas en el contexto de la gestión de la información jurídica. Diseño/Metodología/Enfoque: Se parte de una revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema, identificando las principales características a tener en cuenta en los sistemas de información jurídica digital desde cuatro ejes temáticos: cambios legislativos, tecnología y digitalización, acceso a la información y gestión de datos. Sobre esta base conceptual, se desarrolla una discusión analítica prospectiva acerca de los retos y oportunidades identificados. Resultados/Discusión: Se concluye que la dinámica de los cambios legislativos demanda sistemas dinámicos con capacidad de actualización automatizada continua. La tecnología optimiza procesos bajo estrictos controles de calidad. El acceso universal requiere superar brechas digitales e informáticas. Y la masividad de datos jurídicos precisa herramientas de gestión flexibles, interoperables y centradas en metadatos. Transversalmente, es necesario evaluar impactos sociales mediante pruebas de usabilidad con diversos usuarios e implementar medidas inclusivas. Conclusiones: La gestión prospectiva de la información jurídica en entornos digitales demanda sistemas escalables, flexibles y centrados en el usuario, capaces de actualizarse continuamente ante cambios normativos. La tecnología optimiza procesos bajo certidumbre y transparencia. Sin embargo, esta transformación requiere superar brechas de accesibilidad mediante enfoques interseccionales que incorporen diversas realidades sociales. Originalidad/Valor: El análisis realizado aporta una visión prospectiva sobre elementos fundacionales a considerar para el desarrollo de sistemas de información jurídica digital modernos, accesibles y alineados con los principios democráticos del acceso efectivo a la justicia desde cualquier sector de la sociedad.

Abstract

El Derecho Penal, es decir, aquel conjunto de normas de derecho público, que establece determinadas conductas que considera delictivas y determina respecto de las mismas una concreta sanción. El Derecho Penal a través de la tipificación de estas conductas delictivas trata de proteger a la sociedad, defendiendo lo que considera sus intereses fundamentales. Es cualitativa y de revisión bibliográfica. Este trabajo se enfoca en la explicación y compresión del panorama actual de la investigación en derecho penal en el contexto ecuatoriano. Se refleja la perspectiva personal de los autores ya que la información sobre esta área en particular se muestra incompleta, disgregada y resumida. Se espera que en el futuro otros investigadores puedan mostrar visiones más amplias. Su propósito central está dirigido a compartir experiencias de su desarrollo y mostrar una aproximación a la situación actual, lo que puede ser de utilidad para explorar vías de producción de nuevos conocimientos, su difusión y aplicación práctica. Además, resulta relevante como un aporte en la dirección de la lucha contra la violencia, la delincuencia y la desigualdad, así como contribuye, en cierta medida, a la generación de mecanismos para evitar la impunidad y visibilizar problemas sociales ocultos o desatendidos. Es deseable que en el futuro se avance en estas direcciones y que la comunicación e intercambio entre los investigadores juristas ecuatorianos ocupe un espacio importante en el interés de las revistas científicas y editoriales.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the usefulness of neutrosophic logic to determine the relationship between student competencies and certain personality traits in law students at the National University of Chimborazo. For this, the study was carried out on a sample of 20 students in the last year of their degree. The Analytic Hierarchy Process method was used to support the decision-making process. Using this method, the most desirable competencies in the distance learning process and those personality traits of interest to the researchers were selected. The results obtained made it possible to determine that, on average, there is indeterminacy in some of the pairs of personality traits in students with average or low performance. The students who, on average, presented high levels of performance in the competencies analyzed, showed greater tendencies towards the trait than towards the anti-trait or indeterminacy

266 p., En primer lugar se debe destacar que el turismo tiene como soporte al territorio y constituye un incentivo para el desarrollo local, permite dinamizar las actividades económicas tradicionales, y promover la revalorización de la cultura. El presente trabajo, tiene como finalidad elaborar una propuesta de lineamientos que deriven en un plan de desarrollo turístico, capaz de generar mejoras y oportunidades en el Valle Calchaquí, Provincia de Salta, en el espacio comprendido entre el municipio de Cachi y Seclantás. Se destaca que esta área del Valle Calchaquí conserva un importante patrimonio cultural tangible e intangible, cuya puesta en valor, contribuiría al desarrollo de la actividad turística y posibilitaría la integración del corredor turístico a la Ruta Nacional N°40. Por su parte la observación y el análisis de los componentes del sistema turístico, presente en el área de estudio, y estrechamente relacionado con el entorno económico, político, social, cultural y ambiental permitirán determinar la situación actual; Y de este modo concluir si es viable el desarrollo propuesto. Abstract

A spectral analysis of 217 sweetpotato genotypes was undertaken. These were collected from different CIP sweet potatoe genetic trials (GT) located in different agroecological zones (AEZ); West nile AEZ (Abii GT; L. Albert AEZ (Hoima and Buling GTs); Southern highlands (Kabale GT); Lake Victoria Crescent (Namulonge MDP); Western highlands (Rwebitaba MDP); and L.Kyoga basin (Serere GT). The samples were collected in two different seasons of 2021 and 2022. Harvests took place in the second season of 2021 (94 genotypes) (and the first season of 2022 (123 genotypes). Calibrations were done using reference data collected by a sensory panel as well as texture parameters assessed using a texture analyser. Up to twelve cooked roots per genotype were used for sensory evaluation of traits per session. High performances were observed of the calibration for orange color intensity (R2 = 0.80), suggesting that the model is sufficient for field application. The moderate performances of sweet taste, uniformity of color, fibrousness, pumpkin flavor, pumpkin aroma, moisture release and hardness (R2 > 0.50) could be used for initial screening purposes. Most of the calibrations still need improvement.

41. Desarrollo de un sistema móvil/web de geolocalización de unidades de transporte público de la empresa Piribebuy S.A

Abstract

La falta de organización de los horarios y el deficiente servicio brindado por causa de la baja frecuencia de las unidades de transporte público de la Empresa Piribebuy S.A. hace que los usuarios desconozcan el tiempo que le llevará a la unidad más próxima a ellos llegar al sitio en el que éstos se encuentran. En los últimos tiempos, el servicio de la Empresa Piribebuy S.A. se ve afectado negativamente por el deficiente sistema de organización de horarios lo que genera prolongadas esperas y provoca en los usuarios una desagradable experiencia a la hora de utilizar el servicio de la citada empresa. Por lo expuesto, la necesidad de la formulación de esta investigación, nace teniendo en cuenta las innumerables quejas de los usuarios. Con el desarrollo e implementación de esta investigación, se pretende brindar a los usuarios de la Empresa Piribebuy S.A., una herramienta que permita a éstos, conocer la posición de las unidades de transporte, en tiempo real, para así poder realizar un cálculo aproximado del tiempo en que dicha unidad llegará a la parada en la cual se encuentran. Pregunta de investigación: ¿Es factible el desarrollo de una aplicación móvil/web de geolocalización de unidades del transporte público de la Empresa Piribebuy S. A. Año 2016? Diseño: El artículo se basa en el desarrollo e implementación de una aplicación móvil y sistema web para brindar a los usuarios de la Empresa Piribebuy S.A., una herramienta que permita a éstos, conocer la posición de las unidades de transporte, en tiempo real, utilizando la tecnología GPS. Resultado: La aplicación móvil destinada a las unidades de transporte facilita la transmisión de los datos de posicionamiento de las mismas; mientras que la aplicación móvil dispuesta para los usuarios de la Empresa Piribebuy S.A. brinda la posibilidad de conocer de manera precisa y en tiempo real, la ubicación geográfica en las cuales se encuentran las unidades de transporte público activas, plasmando las mismas en un mapa virtual mediante el empleo de un gmaker (marcador). Conclusión: En respuesta a la situación planteada y mediante la elaboración de la presente investigación se pudo desarrollar una solución informática integral, la cual abarca todas las variables del problema, ya que durante el desarrollo de la labor se evidenció la necesidad de contar con una herramienta software adicional que se encargue de la gestión interna de las informaciones necesarias para el funcionamiento de las aplicaciones encargadas de la emisión de los datos de posicionamiento y de la geolocalización de las unidades de transporte respectivamente.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to demonstrate the usefulness of neutrosophic logic to determine the relationship between student competencies and certain personality traits in law students at the National University of Chimborazo. For this, the study was carried out on a sample of 20 students in the last year of their degree. The Analytic Hierarchy Process method was used to support the decision-making process. Using this method, the most desirable competencies in the distance learning process and those personality traits of interest to the researchers were selected. The results obtained made it possible to determine that, on average, there is indeterminacy in some of the pairs of personality traits in students with average or low performance. The students who, on average, presented high levels of performance in the competencies analyzed, showed greater tendencies towards the trait than towards the anti-trait or indeterminacy.
