1. Pulse frequency variations and timing noise of MXB 0656-072 during the 2007-2008 type I outbursts and implications for its magnetic field

Abstract

We aim to explore the properties of the Be/X-ray binary system MXB 0656-072 from a timing analysis perspective through an investigation of the RXTE/PCA and Fermi/GBM data during its 2007-2008 type I outbursts. We applied two new techniques, for the first time, along with the conventional Deeter method to produce higher-resolution power density spectra (PDS) of the torque fluctuations. We also investigated the spin frequency evolution of the source by utilising a pulse timing technique. The PDSs show a red noise pattern, with a steepness of $\Gamma \sim -2$ and a saturation timescale of $\sim$150 d, indicating that MXB 0656-072 is a disc-fed source. With the obtained long term spin frequency evolution, we reveal the torque-luminosity correlation of MXB 0656-072 for the first time. We also demonstrate that the frequency evolution is largely consistent with the Ghosh-Lamb model. In the RXTE/PCA observations, the pulsed emission disappears below $\sim$5$\times 10^{35}$ erg s$^{-1}$, while the profiles remain stable above this value in our analysis time frame. We show that the magnetic field strength deduced from the torque model is compatible with the field strength of the pulsar derived from the cyclotron resonance scattering feature. Utilising the new distance of MXB 0656-072 measured by Gaia, we show that the spectral transition of MXB 0656-072 occurs at a luminosity that matches the expected theoretical transition from the subcritical to supercritical accretion regime., Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. Abstract

We present the Spectroscopic Time-Resolving Observatory for Broadband Energy X-rays (STROBE-X), a probe-class mission concept selected for study by NASA. It combines huge collecting area, high throughput, broad energy coverage, and excellent spectral and temporal resolution in a single facility. STROBE-X offers an enormous increase in sensitivity for X-ray spectral timing, extending these techniques to extragalactic targets for the first time. It is also an agile mission capable of rapid response to transient events, making it an essential X-ray partner facility in the era of time-domain, multi-wavelength, and multi-messenger astronomy. Optimized for study of the most extreme conditions found in the Universe, its key science objectives include: (1) Robustly measuring mass and spin and mapping inner accretion flows across the black hole mass spectrum, from compact stars to intermediate-mass objects to active galactic nuclei. (2) Mapping out the full mass-radius relation of neutron stars using an ensemble of nearly two dozen rotation-powered pulsars and accreting neutron stars, and hence measuring the equation of state for ultradense matter over a much wider range of densities than explored by NICER. (3) Identifying and studying X-ray counterparts (in the post-Swift era) for multiwavelength and multi-messenger transients in the dynamic sky through cross-correlation with gravitational wave interferometers, neutrino observatories, and high-cadence time-domain surveys in other electromagnetic bands. (4) Continuously surveying the dynamic X-ray sky with a large duty cycle and high time resolution to characterize the behavior of X-ray sources over an unprecedentedly vast range of time scales. Abstract

In this White Paper we present the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to Observatory Science targets. These include flaring stars, supernova remnants, accreting white dwarfs, low and high mass X-ray binaries, radio quiet and radio loud active galactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and gamma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellently suited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. Developed by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s., Comment: Accepted for publication on Sci. Abstract

In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s., Comment: Accepted for publication on Sci. 6. \emph{RXTE} Timing Analysis of the AXP 1E 2259+586

Abstract

We report the pulse timing analysis of \emph{Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer} (\emph{RXTE}) observations of the anomalous X-ray pulsar 1E 2259+586 from its 2002 outburst to October, 2010. Our objectives are to extend the work on the recovery stage after the 2002 glitch, investigate the variations caused by the second glitch which occurred in 2007 and look for other unusual events, if any, that arise in the regular spin-down trend of the source. The recovery of the 2002 glitch gives good fit when the two-exponential glitch model of the Crab pulsar is used, rather than the standard glitch model, in the 1360-day interval after the first glitch. The sampling of the following 260-day is not frequent enough to be phase-connected. After that interval, our timing analysis yields that there is a fractional frequency change of $\frac{\Delta\nu}{\nu}\sim8.20(2)\times10^{-7}$. Moreover, we report two frequency shifts of fractional changes, $\frac{\Delta\nu}{\nu}\sim3\times10^{-8},-1\times10^{-8}$: The first one at MJD $\sim53750$ had a positive fractional frequency change in contrast to the second one at MJD $\sim54880$ for which the pulse frequency decreased. 7. Viscous timescale in high mass X-ray binaries

Abstract

Context: Low mass X-ray binaries were found to have very low frequency breaks in their power density spectra below which the power density spectra are nearly in white noise structure and at higher frequencies they approximately follow the $P_\nu \propto \nu^{-1.3}$ law. Aims: In 2005, Gilfanov and Arefiev studied X-ray variability of persistent LMXBs in the $10^{-8}-10^{-1}$ Hz frequency range and To determine whether high mass X-ray binary power density spectra have similar properties and the findings for low mass X-ray binaries are also valid for high mass binaries, we analyzed the time series of high mass X-ray binary sources produced by All Sky Monitor of Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. Method: We obtained the power density spectra of the high mass X-ray binaries using the cosine transform of autocorrelation function. Results: We identified break frequencies for seven sources, namely OAO 1657-415, SS 433, Vela X-1, SMC X-1, 4U 1700-377, GX 301-2, and LMC X-1. The normalized break frequencies with respect to the orbital frequency ($f_{break}/f_{orbit}$) for sources OAO 1657-415, SS 433, SMC X-1 and LMC X-1 are consistent with those of Roche lobe overflow systems. The other high mass X-ray binary systems, Vela X-1, GX 301-2, and 4U 1700-377, however, have larger break frequency ratios, $f_{break}/f_{orb} $, which are indicative of short viscous times. These are all wind-accreting sources and the stellar winds in the systems allow the formation of only short radius discs. 8. Short term pulse frequency fluctuations of OAO 1657-415 from RXTE observations

Abstract

We present new X-ray observations of the high mass X-ray binary (HMXRB) pulsar OAO 1657-415, obtained during one orbital period (10.44 days) with the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). Using the binary orbital parameters, obtained from Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) observations, we resolve the fluctuations in the pulse frequency at time scales on the order of one day for the first time. Recent BATSE results showed that OAO 1657-415 has spin-up/down trends in its pulse frequency time series, without any correlation with the X-luminosity at energies $>$20 keV (Baykal 1997). In the present RXTE observations the source is found to be in an extended phase of spin-down. We also find a gradual increase in the X-ray luminosity which is correlated with a marginal spin-up episode. The marginal correlation between the gradual spin-up (or decrease in spin-down rate) and increase in X-ray luminosity suggests that the OAO 1657-415 is observed during a stable accretion episode where the prograde accretion disk is formed., Comment: MNRAS (2000), vol 313, 637

9. Post-Glitch RXTE-PCA Observations of the Vela Pulsar

Abstract

We report the results of analysis of observations of the Vela Pulsar by PCA on RXTE. Our data consists of two parts. The first part contains observations at 1, 4, and 9 days after the glitch in 1996 and has 27000 sec. total exposure time. The second part of observations were performed three months after this glitch and have a total exposure time of 93000 sec. We found pulsations in both sets. The observed spectrum is a power-law with no apparent change in flux or count rate. The theoretical expectations of increase in flux due to internal heating after a glitch are smaller than the uncertainty of the observations., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures in 9 ps/eps files. Using archival BATSE (Burst and Transient Source Experiment) 20-60 keV band X-ray flux and pulse frequency time series, we look for correlations between torque, luminosity and specific angular momentum for three high mass X-ray binary pulsars Vela X-1, GX 301-2 and OAO 1657-415. Our results show that there is no correlation between pulse frequency derivative and flux which may be an indication of the absence of stable prograde accretion disk. From the strong correlation of specific angular momentum and torque, we conclude that the accretion geometry changes continuously as suggested by the hydrodynamic simulations(Blondin et al. 1990)., Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Abstract

We have investigated the stability of the pulse frequency second derivatives ($\ddot \nu $) of PSR 0823+26, PSR 1706-16, PSR 1749-28, PSR 2021+51 which show significant quadratic trends in their pulse frequency histories in order to determine whether the observed second derivatives are secular or they arise as part of noise processes. We have used TOA data extending to more than three decades which are the longest time spans ever taken into account in pulse timing analyses. We investigated the stability of pulse frequency second derivative in the framework of low resolution noise power spectra (Deeter 1984) estimated from the residuals of pulse frequency and TOA data. We have found that the $\ddot \nu $ terms of these sources arise from the red torque noise in the fluctuations of pulse frequency derivatives which may originate from the external torques from the magnetosphere of pulsar.

12. Revisiting RXTE observations of MXB 0656-072 during the type I outbursts in 2007-2008

Abstract

We report on the timing characteristics of MXB 0656-072 throughout its 2007-2008 type I outbursts utilising RXTE/PCA and Fermi/GBM data. Using pulse timing technique, we explore the spin frequency evolution of the source during this interval. Subsequently, by examining the torque-luminosity relation, we show that the overall frequency evolution is substantially in line with the Ghosh-Lamb model. Furthermore, the residuals of the spin frequencies do not exhibit clear orbital modulations, which possibly indicate that the system is observed on a relatively top view. In the RXTE/PCA observations, the pulsed emission is found to be disappearing below $\sim$$5 \times 10^{36}$ erg s$^{-1}$, whereas the profiles maintain stability above this value within our analysis timeframe. In addition, we incorporate two novel methods along with the conventional Deeter method in order to generate higher-resolution power density spectra (PDS). A red noise pattern in the PDSs is also verified in these new methods, common in disk-fed sources, with a steepness of $\Gamma \sim -2$, reaching saturation at a time-scale of $\sim$150 d. Considering the models for spectral transitions, we discuss the possible scenarios for the dipolar magnetic field strength of MXB 0656-072 and its coherence with deductions from the cyclotron resonance scattering feature (CRSF)., Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures. Abstract

In this paper we describe the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to accretion flows in the strong field gravity regime around both stellar-mass and supermassive black-holes. eXTP has the unique capability of using advanced 'spectral-timing-polarimetry' techniques to analyze the rapid variations with three orthogonal diagnostics of the flow and its geometry, yielding unprecedented insight into the inner accreting regions, the effects of strong field gravity on the material within them and the powerful outflows which are driven by the accretion process., Accepted for publication on Sci. Küçük Macellan Bulutu'nda yer alan SXP 1062 ise magnetar manyetik alanına sahip olan ve Serim et al. tarafından bir aksama (glitch) gösterdiği keşfedilen bir atarcadır. Bu bildiride, bu iki kaynağın X-ışını gözlem uyduları tarafından elde edilen verilerinin analiz sonuçları tartışılacaktır.

Abstract

In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.

24. The Steady Spin-down Rate of 4U 1907+09

Abstract

Using X-ray data from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer, we report the pulse timing results of the accretion-powered, high-mass X-ray binary pulsar 4UU 1907+09, covering a time-span of almost two years. We measured three new pulse periods in addition to the previously measured four pulse periods. We are able to connect pulse arrival times in phase for more than a year. The source has been spinning down almost at a constant rate, with a spin-down rate of v = (- 3.54 +/- 0.02) x 10(exp -14) Hz s(exp -1) for more than 15 yr. Residuals of pulse arrival times yield a very low level of random-walk noise, with a strength of approximately 2 x 10(exp -20) rad(exp 2) s(exp -3) on a time-scale of 383 d, which is 40 times lower than that of the high-mass X-ray binary pulsar Vela X-1. The noise strength is only a factor of five greater than that of the low-mass X-ray binary pulsar 4U 1626-67. The low level of the timing noise and the very stable spin-down rate of 4U 1907+09 make this source unique among the high-mass X-ray binary pulsars, providing another example, in addition to 4U 1626-67, of long-term quiet spin down from an accruing source. These examples show that the extended quiet spin-down episodes observed in the anomalous X-ray pulsars 1RXS J170849.0-400910 and 1E 2259+586 do not necessarily imply that these sources are not accreting pulsars.

Abstract

Bu çalışmada; bir X-ışını çift yıldız sistemi olan X-Persei’nin, RXTE ve INTEGRAL uyduları ile alınan verileri analiz edilerek, zamanlama ve tayfsal özellikleri sunulmuştur. Kaynağın uzun sureli atım frekans geçmişi güncellenerek, frekans türevi ile X-ışını akısı arasında bir ilişki gözlemlenmiştir. Bu ilişki Küresel-Benzeri Aktarım Teorisi’nin öngörülerine göre kütle aktarımının eş-yıldız rüzgarları yolu ile gerçekleştiğini göstermektedir. Fakat, aynı zamanda güç tayfı analizi ile saptanan $\sim$0.2 Hz frekansında geçici QPO özelliği, bir kütle aktarım diskinin varlığını da desteklemektedir.

Abstract

In this White Paper we present the potential of the Enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for determining the nature of dense matter; neutron star cores host an extreme density regime which cannot be replicated in a terrestrial laboratory. The tightest statistical constraints on the dense matter equation of state will come from pulse profile modelling of accretion-powered pulsars, burst oscillation sources, and rotation-powered pulsars. Additional constraints will derive from spin measurements, burst spectra, and properties of the accretion flows in the vicinity of the neutron star. Under development by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.

Abstract

In this White Paper we present the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to Observatory Science targets. These include flaring stars, supernova remnants, accreting white dwarfs, low and high mass X-ray binaries, radio quiet and radio loud active galactic nuclei, tidal disruption events, and gamma-ray bursts. eXTP will be excellently suited to study one common aspect of these objects: their often transient nature. Developed by an international Consortium led by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Science, the eXTP mission is expected to be launched in the mid 2020s.

In this paper we describe the potential of the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry (eXTP) mission for studies related to accretion flows in the strong field gravity regime around both stellar-mass and supermassive black-holes. eXTP has the unique capability of using advanced “spectral-timing-polarimetry” techniques to analyze the rapid variations with three orthogonal diagnostics of the flow and its geometry, yielding unprecedented insight into the inner accreting regions, the effects of strong field gravity on the material within them and the powerful outflows which are driven by the accretion process. Abstract

We analyse observations of the accretion-powered pulsar 4U 1907+09 from the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL; between 2005 October and 2007 November) and from the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE; between 2007 June and 2011 March). Using observations from the Imager on-board the INTEGRAL satellite (IBIS), the INTEGRAL Soft Gamma-Ray Imager (ISGRI) and the RXTE Proportional Counter Array (PCA), we update the pulse period history of the source. We construct power spectrum density of pulse frequencies, and we find that fluctuations in the pulse frequency derivatives are consistent with the random walk model with a noise strength of 1.27 x 10(-21) Hz s-2. From the X-ray spectral analysis of RXTE/PCA observations, we find that the hydrogen column density is variable over the binary orbit, and that it tends to increase just after the periastron passage. We also show that the X-ray spectrum becomes hardened with decreasing X-ray flux. We discuss the pulse-to-pulse variability of the source near dipping ingress and egress. We find that the source is more likely to undergo dipping states after apastron until periastron when the accretion from clumpy wind might dominate. Thus, occasional transitions to a temporary propeller state might occur.

34. Viscous timescale in high mass X-ray binaries

Abstract

Context: Low mass X-ray binaries were found to have very low frequency breaks in their power density spectra below which the power density spectra are nearly in white noise structure and at higher frequencies they approximately follow the $P_��\propto ��^{-1.3}$ law. Aims: In 2005, Gilfanov and Arefiev studied X-ray variability of persistent LMXBs in the $10^{-8}-10^{-1}$ Hz frequency range and To determine whether high mass X-ray binary power density spectra have similar properties and the findings for low mass X-ray binaries are also valid for high mass binaries, we analyzed the time series of high mass X-ray binary sources produced by All Sky Monitor of Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer. Method: We obtained the power density spectra of the high mass X-ray binaries using the cosine transform of autocorrelation function. Results: We identified break frequencies for seven sources, namely OAO 1657-415, SS 433, Vela X-1, SMC X-1, 4U 1700-377, GX 301-2, and LMC X-1. The normalized break frequencies with respect to the orbital frequency ($f_{break}/f_{orbit}$) for sources OAO 1657-415, SS 433, SMC X-1 and LMC X-1 are consistent with those of Roche lobe overflow systems. The other high mass X-ray binary systems, Vela X-1, GX 301-2, and 4U 1700-377, however, have larger break frequency ratios, $f_{break}/f_{orb} $, which are indicative of short viscous times. These are all wind-accreting sources and the stellar winds in the systems allow the formation of only short radius discs. Abstract

We present the discovery of the orbital period of Swift J1626.6−5156 . Since its discovery in 2005, the source has been monitored with Rossi X−ray Timing Explorer, especially during the early stage of the outburst and into the X−ray modulating episode. Using a data span of 700 days, we obtain the orbital period of the system as 132.9 days. We find that the orbit is close to a circular shape with an eccentricity 0.08, that is one of the smallest among Be/X−ray binary systems. Moreover, we find that the timescale of the X−ray modulations varied, which led to earlier suggestions of orbital periods at about a third and half of the orbital period of Swift J1626.6−5156 .

Abstract

Neutron stars hold a central place in astrophysics, not only because they are made up of the most extreme states of the condensed matter, but also because they are, along with white dwarfs and black holes, one of the stable configurations that stars reach at the end of stellar evolution. Neutron stars posses the highest rotation rates and strongest magnetic fields among all stars. They radiate prolifically, in high energy electromagnetic radiation and in the radio band. This book is devoted to the selected lectures presented in the 6th NATO-ASI series entitled "The Electromagnetic Spectrum of Neutron Stars" in Marmaris, Turkey, on 7-18 June 2004. This ASI is devoted to the spectral properties of neutron stars. Spectral observations of neutron stars help us to understand the magnetospheric emission processes of isolated radio pulsars and the emission processes of accreting neutron stars. This volume includes spectral information from the neutron stars in broadest sense, namely neutrino and gravitational radiation along with the electromagnetic spectrum. We believe that this volume can serve as graduate level of text including the broad range of properties of neutron stars.

Abstract

We analysed the RXTE archival data of 1E 1048.1-5937 covering a time span of more than one year. The spin down rate of this source decreases by 30 percent during the observation. We could not resolve the X-ray flux variations because of contamination by Eta Carinae. We find that the level of pulse frequency fluctuations of 1E 1048.1-5937 is consistent with typical noise levels of accretion powered pulsars. Recent RXTE observations of 1E 2259+586 have shown a constant spin down with a very low upper limit on timing noise. We used the RXTE archival X-ray observations of 1E 2259+586 to show that the intrinsic X-ray luminosity times series is also stable, with an rms fractional variation of less than 15 percent. Using archival BATSE (Burst and Transient Source Experiment) 20-60 keV band X-ray flux and pulse frequency time series, we look for correlations between torque, luminosity and specific angular momentum for three high mass X-ray binary pulsars Vela X-1, GX 301-2 and OAO 1657-415. Our results show that there is no correlation between pulse frequency derivative and flux which may be an indication of the absence of stable prograde accretion disk. From the strong correlation of specific angular momentum and torque, we conclude that the accretion geometry changes continuously as suggested by the hydrodynamic simulations(Blondin et al. 1990)., 14 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics

Abstract

X-ISLNLI ÇİFT YILDIZLARDA TORK GÜRÜLTÜSÜ MODELLERİ Altan BAYKAL Fen ve Edebiyat Fakültesi Fizik Bölümü, Doktora Tezi Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. Ümit Kızıloğlu 74 sayfa, Nisan 1991 ÖZET Otoregresiv zaman dizgisi modeli kullanılarak, kütle aktarımı yapan X ışınlı atar caların (pulsar), zaman serisi geçmişleri modellendi. Vela X-l, Cen X-3, Her X-1, A0535+26 atarcalarının dönme frekanslarının değişmelerinin rastgele yürüyüş yaptığı gösterildi. Diğer atarcalarında rastgele yürüyüş modeline aykırı olmadığı görüldü. Bütün kaynakların rastgele yürüyüş yaptıkları kabul edilerek, beyaz gürültü şiddetleri (white noise strength) hesaplandı. Bu gürültü şiddetlerinin, kaynakların uzun za manlı hızlanması (spin up) ve yavaşlaması (spin down) üzerindeki etkisi incelendi. Vela X-l, GX 301-2, X Per'in uzun zamanlı davranışının gürültüden kaynaklandığı ve net bir ortalama hızlanmaları veya yavaşlamaları olmadığı anlaşıldı. SMC X-1, Cen X-3, 4U1627-67, GX1 + 4,ün halâ Ghosh ve Lamb modeliyle tutarlı olduğu gösterildi. iki bileşkeli nötron yıldızı modeli incelendi ve nötron yıldızının beyaz tork gürültüsü etkisindeki dinamik özelikleri incelendi. Monte Carlo simulasyonu, gözlenen deneysel verilerde kullanılarak, dinamik kabuk-çekirdek takılma zamanı ve nötron yıldızının süperakışkanını hesaplıyabilecek kendi içinde tutarlı bir model geliştirildi. Metod uzun periodlu Vela X-l,na uygulandı. Bu atarcanın, kabuk çekirdek takılma zamanının l gün'den uzun olduğu zaman skalasında, süper akışkanının eylemsizlikkütlesinin kaynağın toplam eylemsizlik kütlesinin %85'ni geçemediği görüldü. Thesis Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Ümit Kızıloğlu 74 pages, April 1991 ABSTRACT Time series histories of accretion powered X-ray pulsars are modelled, using the first order autoregressive time series model. It is found that the pulsars Vela X-l, Cen X-3, Her X-l, A0535 + 26 are making random walks in pulse frequency fluctuations. For the remaining sources the random walk model cannot be rejected. Assuming that all the sources are making random walks in pulse frequency, the corresponding white noise strengths in the frequency derivative are calculated. The effect of these noise strengths in the long term spin up or down trends of the sources are investigated. It is found that the long term trends of the Vela X-l, GX 301-2, X Per can be explained as parts of the noise process and there is no evidence for a secular spin up or spin down. The behaviour of SMC X-l, Cen X-3, 4U1627-67, GX1 + 4 is still consistent with the Ghosh and Lamb disk model. The two component neutron star model is reviewed and the dynamical response of the neutron star to white torque noise is investigated. By comparing Monte Carlo simulations of the model with the observed data for the long period source Vela X-l, constraints are obtained on the dynamical crust-core coupling time and the superfluid moment of inertia of the neutron star. There is no evidence for the crust-core coupling time in the observed time series. This iiiimplies that the moment of inertia of the core superfluid can not exceed 85% of the total moment of inertia if the crust-core coupling time r is longer than lday, which is in agreement with the analysis of Boynton and Deeter.
