In finite element analysis of steel-reinforced elastomeric bearings (SREB) under compression, modeling of rubber as a nearly or fully incompressible material requires special attention. In this study, finite element simulations of circular elastomeric pads and rectangular SREB under compression were performed to analyze the effects of rubber compressibility with respect to different pad geometries and shape factor values. The ratio of the compressive modulus for a compressible rubber to that of an incompressible rubber was also introduced based on the previously derived exact solutions as well as the ad hoc approximations. This ratio accurately represents the influence of compressibility on compressive stiffness in terms of relative compressibility (K/G) and shape factor values. Numerical results were also compared with the experimental results on rectangular SREB with moderate shape factors. Recommended values for relative compressibility of carbon black-filled rubbers in the range of 50-200 result in underestimated compressive stiffness, especially for bearings with shape factor values greater than five. It is recommended to adjust the relative compressibility, considering the shape factor, so that the compressive stiffness does not decrease by more than 50% compared to the incompressible case. Several strong earthquakes hit Croatia in 2020. Such earthquakes, after a long absence of strong seismic activities in the country, in combination with material degradation, lack of maintenance and structures that were built before modern seismic regulations, culminated with extensive damage to the existing building stock. Existing unreinforced masonry (URM) structures are quite vulnerable to earthquakes, largely due to a lack of connectivity between structural parts. The numerous damaged buildings emphasize the need to preserve, restore and strengthen URM structures, especially the ones under heritage protection. The main focus of this paper is on the first step of the assessment process, which is to determine the mechanical properties of masonry. For that purpose, the flat-jack method is used. Through stress transfer from a flat-jack to the masonry useful information can be obtained. The results of the extensive post-earthquake flat-jack tests (single, double and shear) on 17 case studies in Croatia are presented. The results are critically discussed and the mechanical properties of brick masonry in Mediterranean Europe are presented. The goal of the present work is to increase the confidence level in the definition of mechanical properties and, thus, to favorably influence the necessary reconstruction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Finite element modelling, Model Updating, Structural heritage, Structural Dynamic Parameters, Axial forces - Abstract
Cultural heritage buildings have a high architectural value, and their maintenance and rehabilitation require special attention and approach. This is most often achieved by performing a non-destructive test such as dynamic testing of structure, i.e., operational modal analysis (OMA). In addition to the non-destructive testing, numerical structural analysis is also performed. The developed numerical model may not always reflect the real structural behavior due to the errors and assumptions during the modelling. The operational modal analysis is most often combined with the numerical model to solve this problem. The numerical model is updated using this combination based on the result obtained by performing the operational modal analysis. This can serve as a base for a valuable source of information. The obtained numerical model can be used for different purposes such as establishing structural health monitoring (SHM), damage detection, structural life prediction, determination of optimal maintenance strategy, etc. In this paper, such a combination of the numerical model and operational modal analysis results is used to perform the model updating of the simple and complex numerical model. As a part of the experimental investigation of st. James Cathedral in Šibenik (Croatia) dynamic parameters of the tie rods (simple model) and Cathedral were determined. After that, the initial numerical models for both tie rods and Cathedral were developed. Based on comparison with the experimentally obtained results, the model updating was performed to estimate the axial forces in tie rods and to update the numerical model of the Cathedral. Based on the results, it was shown that combining the analysis of local and global structural models, experimentally obtained dynamic parameters, and finite element model updating (FEMU) is a viable solution for the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation of cultural heritage buildings.

Dinamičko probno opterećenje obuhvaća mjerenja osnovnih dinamičkih parametara (vlastitih frekvencija, oblika titranja i prigušenja) rasponske konstrukcije i zatega.

Masonry ,Assessment ,Semi-destructive testing ,Croatia ,Cultural heritage - Abstract
In this paper, the main focus is on determining the material characteristics of the existing unreinforced masonry buildings. The paper briefly describes the method of testing masonry using flat jacks. The method belongs to the semi-destructive tests and has been used in civil engineering since the end of the 20th century. Also, the results obtained from in-situ tests on several buildings in Zagreb and the surrounding area after the recent devastating earthquakes in Croatia in 2020 are graphically presented in the last chapter. The results obtained in this way serve as a basis for further design. Investigative work is necessary for quality assessment and renovation of existing buildings, many of which are under cultural protection and deserve special care. In this way, management of the existing building fond is more economical and sustainable. Also, buildings are becoming safer and more reliable.

- Abstract
On December 29, 2020 a magnitude 6.4 earthquake occurred in the Sisak-Moslavina county of Croatia. The earthquake occurred along the Popusko-Petrinja strike slip fault within the Eurasia plate at a depth of 10 km with an epicenter at 45.422°N 16.255°E, three kilometers (km) west-southwest of the city of Petrinja. The maximum intensity of the earthquake was VII (severe) on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale and VIII (heavily damaging) to IX (destructive) on the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS). Due to the earthquake and resulting damage, there were seven fatalities, 26 people were injured, and many hundreds of people were displaced from their homes. The most affected city was Petrinja, but severe damage also occurred in Sisak, Dvor, Glina, Topusko, as well as in Croatia’s capital Zagreb, located approximately 50 km northwest of the epicenter. Damage was also reported in neighboring countries, including Slovenia, located north of Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, located south of this region of Croatia. The purpose of this post-earthquake reconnaissance report is to provide, within a few days of the earthquake, an overview of the hazard characteristics and to summarize preliminary reports of damage to buildings, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure. Moreover, key findings are also summarized with regard to geotechnical failures that include liquefaction, lateral spreading, landslides, sinkholes and damage to the extended levee system along the Kupa, Odra and Sava rivers., Joint Reconnaissance Report, PRJ-2959

ocena stanja, autonomni sistemi, nedestruktivna ispitivanja - Abstract
Tehnološki napredak i automatizacija prisutni u 21. veku dovode do značajnih promena u većini sistema upravljanja.

This article develops the mode shape area difference (MSAD) method for detecting sparse damage in beam‐like structures under serviceability conditions. MSAD enhances the static deformation area difference (DAD) damage detection method by extending its application to the modal domain. MSAD leverages the sensitivity of mode shapes to the damage, enabling damage detection and localization through the quantification of area differences between functions of modal displacements and their derivatives. To test the applicability of the method to real modal data that is affected by measurement noise resulting in different accuracies on which the modal displacements are estimated, method is evaluated under different levels of artificial noise added to the theoretical mode shapes derived from numerical model of a simply supported reinforced concrete beam. The noise level is defined by a maximum noise amplitude representing the maximal permutation in each component of normalized mode shape. Additionally, the threshold value of noise level from within the reliable estimation of damage based on MSAD method is determined. It is confirmed that MSAD method requires mode shapes with exceptionally low noise levels and demands precise estimation of all mode shape components, thereby reducing its applicability to real experimental data. dinamički parametar, vlastita frekvencija, modalni oblik, koeficijent prigušenja, pobuda - Abstract

Due to the increase in traffic load, steel railway bridge “Sava” in Zagreb was strengthened in order to meet higher standard requirements. After the strengthening, experimental investigation of the bridge was conducted. Bridge "Sava" is a double-track railway bridge over 4 spans with total length of 306 m and width of 9.6 m. Static system of the bridge is a simply supported continuous beam which is strengthened by the arch in the main span (langer beam). The main span is 135.54 m long and the remaining three spans are 57.50 m, 57.96 m and 55.00 m long. Static and dynamic loading was performed using two 119.5 m long train compositions each consisting of locomotive (4 axles, 20.0 t per axle) and 8 freight wagons (4 axles, 19.95 t per axle). During the static testing trains were positioned in different locations on the bridge in order to achieve maximal inner forces and displacements. Displacements were measured at 30 measuring points and strains were measured at 16 measuring points. Within dynamic testing, modal parameters of the bridge (natural frequencies and modal shapes) were determined using operational modal analysis during ambient excitation. In addition, natural frequencies were determined from vibrations measured with robotic total station after train compositions pass by at various speed. Experimentally determined displacements, strains (stress) and modal parameters were compared to the corresponding numerical values obtained from the FE model of the bridge. Values of experimentally determined parameters presented in this paper are important for future monitoring of the structural health of the bridge structure.

Flat slabs ,punching ,punching reinforcement ,experiment - Abstract
Flat slabs are slabs supported directly on columns, without beams between the columns. Punching shear strength is a very important parameter for the design of flat slabs, especially when the brittleness of the punching appearance is taken into consideration. This paper shortly presents historical development of the flat slab system as well as the issues regarding the punching phenomenon. In addition, experimental research conducted by the authors on the punching of slabs with and without shear reinforcement is described.

tram track ,21-STT ,21-CTT ,vibrations ,strain - Abstract
Light rail and tram traffic present significant advantages in a heavy populated urban environment in terms of quality of service, volume of passengers, delays etc. Rail vehicles in interaction with a railway structure, however, can induce vibrations that are propagating to surrounding structures and cause noise disturbance in the surrounding areas. Since tram tracks often share the running surface with road vehicles it is also of most importance to construct long lasting and low maintenance structures in short traffic closure periods foreseen for these activities. Tram system forms a backbone of public transport in the City of Zagreb. In the last decade, its fleet has been renewed by 142 new low-floor trams. Shortly after their introduction, it was observed that they have a negative impact on the exploitation behaviour of tram infrastructure, primarily on the durability of rail fastening systems. To tackle this challenge, improvements to the standard fastening systems on Zagreb tram network have been proposed. New fastening systems 21-CTT and 2 21-STT have been installed for testing purpose in Savska street in Zagreb on a 150 m long test section, along with the referent test section of standard ZET fastening system PPE (fastening system with enhanced resilience). Paper presents an overview of the newly implemented fastening systems, their implementation on a test section in Savska street, as well as measurements and analysis of strain in RC slab and rail vibrations driven by tram pass-by.

Fibre Reinforced Concrete ,Flat Slab ,Punching Shear ,Recycled Tires ,Steel Fibres ,Experimental Investigation - Abstract
The increasing amount of waste tires around the world and their landfilling present a continuous problem to be solved. Currently, in some countries and unions of countries there are directives which prohibit landfilling and imply that constituent materials of waste tires must be recycled. So, the research community is continuously trying to find different ways to reuse these materials and solve this environmental problem. The main goals of these researches presume engineering, ecological and economical benefits of newly found applications of waste tires rubber, steel fibres and textile fibres. This paper presents the investigation on bearing behaviour of concrete flat slabs reinforced with recycled steel fibres from waste tyres loaded with punching shear force. The ultimate strength of flat slabs is very often governed by their punching shear capacity. This failure mode is rather brittle and can lead to progressive collapses of slab – column connections which can cause collapse of the entire structure. This capacity is traditionally increased by reinforcement in form of stirrups, shear studs or shear bands for example. In addition to these methods of strengthening against punching, industrial steel fibres have proved to be an effective alternative because of their positive effect on shear behaviour and deformation capacity of elements concerned. The main goal of the presented research was to test the ability of recycled steel fibres to perform in the same way as industrial steel fibres in flat slabs loaded in punching. Research included investigation of behaviour of reinforced concrete slabs made of several mixes including plain concrete, mix with industrial steel fibres and mixes with industrial and recycled steel fibres – hybrid fibres. A total of fifteen small-scale flat slabs were tested and results indicate that the use of hybrid fibres can improve the punching shear strength and deformation capacity of concrete slabs. Furthermore, slabs reinforced with hybrid fibres showed better behaviour when compared to slabs reinforced only with industrial steel fibres.

The increasing number of used tyres and their landfilling present a worldwide problem. Currently, in number of countries, there are directives that prohibit landfilling of complete tires and imply that they must be disintegrated and their constituent materials recycled. Thus, the research community is trying to find applications for reuse of these materials. Main objectives of all researches imply engineering, ecological and economical benefits of newly found applications. This paper presents an effort to find a new application for sorted recycled tyre steel fibres. Namely, usage of these fibres as reinforcement in concrete slabs loaded in punching has been investigated. The ultimate strength of flat slab system is often governed by the slab’s punching shear capacity. Punching of a slab in a building is a rather brittle phenomenon that can lead to progressive collapses of neighbouring slab – column connections. Finally, this domino effect can cause collapse of the entire structure. Punching shear capacity of slabs is traditionally increased by reinforcement in form of stirrups or headed shear studs. In addition to these methods, industrially manufactured steel fibres have proved to be an effective alternative because of their positive effect on punching load and deformation capacity of elements concerned. Having this in mind, the main objective of the presented research was to test the ability of sorted recycled steel fibres to perform in the same way as industrial steel fibres. Research included investigation of reinforced concrete slabs made of several mixes including plain concrete, mix with industrial steel fibres and mixes with industrial and recycled steel fibres – hybrid fibres. Obtained results indicate that the usage of hybrid fibres can improve the punching strength and deformation capacity of concrete slabs.

Most je gubitkom stabilnosti jednog od stupova u riječnom koritu doživio lokalnu plastičnu deformaciju, a samim time i deformaciju kolosijeka. Dvokolosječni most iz 1968 godine predstavlja tipični željeznički most u zakovanoj izvedbi.

Dubrovnik – Srđ cableway was originally designed and built in 1969. During the homeland war in Croatia, the cableway was totally destroyed, only the support column remained in satisfactory state. New cableway was built in 2010. and the support column needed to be redesigned and strenghten to withstand higher loads of new cabins and to satisfy nowadays european standards. To confirm that redesign was succesful, experimental testing was conducted. Cableway's lenght is 800 m and two cabins whose speed is 6, 5 m/s have a capacity of 30 people. Testing was divided in two phases: determination of column's dynamic parameters and determination of effect of running cableway on support column. Besides dynamic parameters, strain was monitored in base of column.
