Curcumin has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and loading it into nano-phytosomes may improve its efficiency. The present study investigates the effects of curcumin and its nano-phytosome on behavioral and biochemical responses in carrageenan-induced inflammation in the mice model.Methods: The mice were divided into six groups and received oral administration of curcumin or its nano-phytosome at a dose of 15 mg/kg for seven days before the administration of carrageenan. Acute inflammation in the mice was induced by administration of carrageenan (1%) into the subplantar region of the left paw. Antioxidant activity and behavioral responses were then evaluated.Results: The results showed that the serum concentrations of antioxidant enzymes were significantly higher in the sal+sal group compared to the cara+sal group (P< 0.05). Using nanophytosome, separately and in combination with indomethacin, increased the levels of antioxidant enzymes compared to the cara+sal group (P< 0.05). Latency was significantly lower in the cara+sal group compared to the cara+sal group (P< 0.05), but it was considerably higher in other groups, especially in the cara+nano.ph.cur+indo group (P< 0.05).Conclusion: It can be stated that the nano-phytosome of curcumin could improve antioxidant and behavioral responses in inflamed mice.Keywords: antioxidant activity, inflammation, mice model, nano-phytosome

Abstract

Patterns formed by the flow of an inhomogeneous fluid (suspension) over a smooth inclined surface were studied. It was observed that for inclination angle larger than a threshold, global fractal patterns are formed. The fractal dimensions of these patterns were measured df=1.35-1.45 which corresponds to that observed for the flow of water over an inhomogeneous surface, implying that this system is within the same universality class. Except that here the disorder is present in the fluid and is transferred to the surface. This observation is in agreement with the result of the theories of nonlinear flow of fluid in disordered media., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

41. Space travel time information system in Stockholm City : Prototype system and algorithm developments using Avi Measurement data

Abstract

This paper illustrates our development on travel time information system and research on realtime travel time estimation and prediction algorithms using Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) data in the Space Travel Time Prediction (STTP) project funded by Trafikkontoret Stockholm Stad (TSS). To support the implementation of a real-time travel time information system in Stockholm using AVI data collected on urban roads, a preliminary travel time analysis platform was developed and several filtering algorithms and their modifications were implemented and evaluated for travel time estimation purposes in previous work. In the current development, we have extended the previous experiment platform into a web-based system in which travel time data are stored in data warehouses based on spatial and temporal dimensions, and real-time estimation and prediction are available through WWW Internet. In addition, we have developed an adaptive algorithm for on-line travel time prediction based on time-series modeling approaches. Especially, the Kalman Filter has been utilized for the implementation of a recursive optimal predictor, which can handle the noise and non-stationary of travel time measurements., QC 20160610

43. In-vitrobioassay of electrophoretically deposited hydroxyapatite–zirconia nanocomposite coating on Ti–6Al–7Nb implant

Abstract

ABSTRACTHydroxyapatite–zirconia (HA–ZrO2) nanocomposite coatings were prepared on Ti–6Al–7Nb implant by electrophoretic deposition at constant voltage of 50 V. The influence of zirconia content on the phase transition, morphological evolution, wettability and in vitrocyto-compatibility, together with the bioactivity of the nanostructured coatings was examined. From the X-ray diffractometer patterns, a tangible increase and decrease in the peak intensity and width of the characteristic peaks were observed after subsequent sintering at 1000°C for 1 h under a constant flow of argon gas. The sintered HA and HA–ZrO2composite coatings showed higher hydrophilicity than the bare substrate. From the in vitrobioassays, surface treatment of Ti67 implant by HA–ZrO2nanocomposite coating increased the cell response as well as the apatite formability, in simulated body fluid within 5 days of incubation.
