Purpose. The goal of the paper is to identify, investigate and present the official ways of controlling the press in Australia in the 1930s and the ways in which editors and publishers of Croatian newspapers in Australia avoided censorship. This was the time when publications in foreign languages were checked before granting permission to publish, and within the Australian Croatian community the primary language of communication was Croatian. Based on the research, a list of all Croatian newspapers that were published in Australia in the early 1930s is compiled. Approach/methodology/design. The methods used in the research are the method of structured search of online public institutions' catalogues (primarily libraries and archives in Australia), content analysis of archival sources and publications, and the method of involving the Croatian community in Australia. Results. The research resulted in new findings about publications and their editing in the observed period. The social framework for publishing newspapers was researched and presented, and ways to avoid censorship were identified. Each way to avoid censorship is documented and described on the basis of archival sources or a few preserved publications. The research has identified publications that were published in the observed timeframe; the basic data on their publication and editing practices have been investigated. Originality/value. Two publications discovered during the research are described in the paper (Oganj and Iskra). In addition, one publication (one issue of Borba) was found, which was mentioned in the literature, but the bibliographic elements and technical characteristics have never been analysed and the place of storage was not known. All three publications have been digitized and are freely accessible at the links provided in the paper. Furthermore, the research has shown that one publication, which has so far been cited as the publication of Croats in Australia, was not actually published in Australia (Proleter). A list of publications published by Croats in Australia in the early 1930s was compiled on the basis of archival documents, and the ways of conducting and avoiding censorship were presented. The article shows, on the example of Croatian newspapers in Australia and New Zealand, the possibilities of researching the publications of Croatian emigrants. The goal of the Croatian Emigrant Press project implemented at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, is explained. The method of creating bibliographies within the project (with views in ISBD and MARC 21 formats) is also explained, as is the research methodology, which includes searching library catalogues, community engagement (crowdsourcing) and searching archival materials. The role of archives as heritage institutions that are indispensable in the research of publications is especially explained. Examples are given of New Zealand and Australian newspapers for which the only surviving sources are archival ones. One New Zealand newspaper (Glas istine, The Voice of Truth) has not been preserved in any of its copies, but documents preserved in the New Zealand archives prove that they were published. A similar example is of an Australian newspaper (Svijetlo, The Light) for which a document was found which makes it clear that the person who wrote the document had the publication in his hands. Images of documents related to the research of Croatian newspapers are also presented in the paper. One of these documents is related to the implementation of censorship in Australia in the 1930s and indicates that it were the Croatian newspapers Iskra (The Sparkle) and Oganj (The Flame) that influenced the amendments to regulations in order to control press as effectively as possible. The importance of private archives and community archives within Croatian associations is pointed out, and new possibilities for researching Croatian publications in archives in countries where emigrated Croats live are also emphasized. An amphicarpic and tuberous legume yam Vigna lanceolata Benth., endemic to Australia, has had an extraordinary significance in the peculiar type of farming and entire culture of the Aboriginal peoples for tens of millennia. Our review, welding plant and human sciences, offers a concise and informative presentation of the species, by elaborating its taxonomy and morphology, describing its beneficial nutritional and medicinal properties, exploring its ecogeography, with a remarkable population abundance in the northern areas of the continent, assessing its extensive spreading as a consequence of the past fire-use environmental changes and ways of its wilderness reconnaissance, harvest and food preparation, depicting its role in the Australian Aboriginal art, as one of the most sacred objects in the Dreamtime religion, presenting its vernacular names in 85 extinct and living Australian Aboriginal languages and concluding with opening new horizons of its research, through recently established biodiversity and breeding programmes. In this paper, the impacts of climate change on Australia's natural heritage included in the UNESCO World Heritage List are analyzed. Using the examples of the Great Barrier Reef and the Greater Blue Mountains, the impact of climate change on the state of natural heritage in Australia is shown, as well as measures for climate change adaptation due to its preservation and protection. Pressures threatening Australia's natural heritage resulting from climate change include rising temperatures, changes in the amount and pattern of rainfall, sea level rise, fires, more frequent extreme weather events, and ocean acidification. The Great Barrier Reef experienced massive bleaching during marine heatwaves caused by climate change, which threatened the protected area's features that make it a world heritage site. The Greater Blue Mountains are threatened by frequent and powerful fires patterned by climate change. The paper also analyzes national, regional, and local plans and strategies for the protection of natural heritage and the environmental consequences on selected examples.

krš ,Australija - Abstract
Monografija „Australski sustav špilja i krša tiskana je u seriji knjiga pod nazivom „Cave and Karst Systems of the World (Špilje i krški sustavi svijeta)“ jednog od najvećih svjetskih izdavačkih kuća Springer-a.

Purpose. The aim of the paper is to present the testing of the methodology for data collection and production of the retrospective bibliography of emigrant press on the example of serial publications of Croats in Australia. Approach/methodology/design. Based on the SWOT analysis, a plan for producing a retrospective bibliography of emigrant press was created. A methodology that was designed to take advantage of positive strategic factors (strengths and opportunities) and to reduce or eliminate the negative factors was developed. For data collection, the methods of content analysis of primary and secondary sources and crowdsourcing method were used. The methodology of producing a retrospective bibliography of emigrant press, apart from the research methods themselves, includes the methods for creating bibliographic records and promotion of the project. The software that meets the needs and criteria of the project has been selected for the creation of bibliographic records. For the promotion of the project, the website was created and contacts were made with the Croatian community in Australia. Findings. The results of the project brought the discoveries of new titles and a comprehensive bibliography. The results are applicable in planning the production of bibliographies for other types of material and for other geographic areas. Research limitations. Because of the size of the Croatian community in Australia, it is possible that not all the relevant persons and sources have been consulted. Originality/value. The crowdsourcing method has not been tested before for data collection and the development of a comprehensive bibliography of emigrant press. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The first Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Australia was founded on 15 January, 1921 in Sydney. It was led by the consular agent Kārlis Miķelis Alksne. However, two years had passed when Alksne left his position due to personal reasons. So only on 1 July, 1931 when a citizen of Australia, Norman McLeod had agreed, new honorary consul in Sydney was re-established. Meanwhile, new Latvian consulates in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Brisbane were founded at the end of the 1920s. The main task of the position was the protection of Latvian interests and rights in trading, industry, shipping and other economic fields as well as the promotion of economic and cultural relations between Australia and Latvia. Norman McLeod continued to perform his duties also after World War II when Latvian diplomacy faced new and tough reality. He represented Latvia and protected the interests of the former citizens of the Republic of Latvia till his death in 1958 and the closure of the Consulate. Documents preserved in the Latvian State Historical Archives and the Latvian State Archives enable to reconstruct the activities of both Alksne and, especially, McLeod. The documents are systematized within the framework of the former collections of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (No 295, 1313, 2570, 2574, 2575) and in the collection of the Central Archives of Latvians in Australia. The documents of the above mentioned collections confirm the great interest and energetic action of both Alksne and McLeod. Furthermore, the lack of analogue documents of other Latvian consulates from the same time acknowledge that the productivity of each consulate mostly depended on the personal interest of a concrete consul, his personal touch, financial abilities, and the support of the local Latvian community. These documents also highlight Consulate’s internal hierarchy, subordination, and the circulation of its documents that was regulated by the consular rules and instruction of consular duty. These strict rules and the existence of duplicates enable one to get acquainted with manifold materials and help to reconstruct the history of Latvian Honorary Consulate in Sydney.

U radu se analizira politička pozadina odlaska izaslanstva Hrvatske matice iseljenika u Australiju tijekom ljeta 1971., odnosno politički razlozi i svrha njegova boravka.

Pristup/metodologija/dizajn. U istraživanju je korištena povijesna metoda, metoda strukturiranog pretraživanja online kataloga javnih ustanova (primarno knjižnica i arhiva u Australiji), analize sadržaja arhivskih izvora i publikacija te metoda uključivanja zajednice Hrvata u Australiji. Rezultati.

- Abstract
Emils Delins (1921-2004) was a journalist who immigrated in Australia in October 1947 and one and a half year later the first issue of newspaper "Austrālijas Latvietis" (Australia's Latvian - in English) was published in spite of some bureaucratic restrictions and Australian mistrust in the use of foreign languages. The newspaper, edited by Delins from 1949 until 2000, enlightened Latvian emigres on actualities in Australia, Latvia, and the world. Besides his work in "Austrālijas Latvietis", Delins was active also in civic organizations of Latvian and Baltic emigres. He was one of a few who tried to mobilize exile community in significant and crucial moments. In 1974 the government of Australia surprisingly changed its traditional politics and made a decision in favor of the recognition of de jure incorporation of the Baltic States in the Soviet Union. The center of protests was the Baltic Council of Australia which based its action on the so called "Four point plan" created by Delins. The plan alongside with Delins' personal contacts with the Liberal party's leader of the day, B. Snedden helped Baltic emigres to obtain withdrawal of the former decision in December 1975. Evaluating Delins' contribution to defending Latvian interests, the head of Latvian diplomatic and consular service in Washington, A. Dinbergs invited Delins to become a Latvian consular representative in Australia in 1979. Within the frame of limited political and financial circumstances Delins carried out both daily consular duties and kept an eye on Australian government's position towards de jure status of Baltic States. The main motive of Delins' diplomatic, journalistic, and social work was a belief in the possibility of the restoration of the Republic of Latvia and desire to "maintain Latvian question beyond the position of parties". POLITICAL refugees ,LATVIANS ,EXILES ,IMMIGRANTS - Abstract
After immigration into the USA, Canada, Australia etc., Latvian political emigration community declared its main mission - struggle for the freedom of the Latvian nation and the restoration of Latvian independence. Therefore, the majority of Latvian political emigres identified themselves as political refugees, not immigrants. The objective of the Latvians around the world was attained on 21 August 1991. Being glad about the restoration of Latvian independence, Latvian political emigres realized that it put the end to political emigration that lasted almost 50 years. They were able to put in practice the ideal of a political refugee - homecoming. However, there were only few, who returned, the rest looked for the reasons to stay in Australia. Latvians in Australia concluded that their emigre status would not change and there was no reason to doubt that the Latvian community in Australia would exist in the future. They did not return because they suddenly realized that their life in their new homeland lasted much more years than in their fatherland. Since 1991, there is a new group of Latvians in Australia - "Latvians in Australia with an origin of political refugee". Their status of political refugees intangibly transferred in a new specific identity. The concepts of "exile", "political emigration", "political refugee" and "emigre" ceased to exist due to the end of the official Latvian exile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the era of increased corporate globalisation, the lingering principles of directing mind and will have plagued South Africa, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Luxembourg and the United States, amongst other neighbouring territories from manufacturing a realist model of corporate fault. The incorporation of absolute corporate liability in international governance documents has repeatedly fallen short of the expectations in the aftermath of Bhopal, Saveso and P & O European Ferries and other ecological disasters alike. It is of fundamental importance to combat transnational corporate activity from a world order perspective by establishing a legal regime which supports the philosophy that corruption becomes entrenched within the corporate culture, a culture that is indicative of corporate guilt. This paper will travel through several jurisdictions, identifying models of corporate fault, to determine their practicality, viability and legitimacy in the regime of corporate criminal liability. The paramount issues anchoring each jurisdiction from evolution in the respective doctrine is the requirement to locate a high mens rea offence from a directing mind and will and impute this onto the corporate defendant. Due to delegation of managerial responsibilities, the supposed mens rea offence takes places at base level, a technique that has insulated multinational companies from criminal liability. In other jurisdictions, the paper reveals strained attempts to make a derivative fault based model work, which is unsuccessful. Disregarding the employees rank and status to some extent, a corporate body is seen to be held criminally liable where it has partially benefited as a result of its employees actions whether intended or not and whether initially prevented, preventable or not preventable. This paper will continue to examine and evaluate the only available realist model of corporate fault in workable form, as codified into the Australian Criminal Code Act 1995. The 'corporate culture' doctrine remedies the fallacies of a derivative approach and is successful against strategies employed by a larger institution, making it a workable model for capturing corporate fault. The rules pertaining to the model will be closely critiqued and viewed in light of a series of cases before concluding that this approach is the first step in the courses of action required against the evolution of structurally complex corporate arrangements. The following chapters aim to explain the development and the status of English in individual countries: India, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada and South Africa. Finally, the paper provides a conclusion with the comparison of the status of the English language in the previously identified countries. Sadrži objašnjenja i definicije pojmova kolonijalizma i postkolonijalizma. In the beginning of the 21st century, the Australian Croats represent one of the largest ethnic communities in Australia. The Republic of Croatia as a traditional emigration country belongs in the group of European states with relatively largest a number of emigrants or citizens outside own borders; in such context the work outlines the lifestyle of the Croatian emigration corpus in Australia, based in experiences, views and standpoints of the young generation of Australian Croats. Established are four massive emigration waves from Croatia. The period from 1880ies to World War I is considered the first larger emigration wave to overseas lands and emigration being caused by politics and economy. After World War II, the second large wave of emigration of Croats begins, caused by insufficient development of the country and as well by communist regime in the former state. The next larger emigration wave of Croatian citizens began in the sixties of the previous century, induced by the liberalisation of the state policy regarding the so-called temporary work abroad, to Western European countries, and caused by the poor condition of labour market in Croatia and Western European labour market demands. In the nineties of the previous century, the fourth greater wave of emigration of Croats across the borders of their native state began due to the aggression on the Republic of Croatia; the so-called forced migration began of a certain number of Croats from the major territory of the Republic of Croatia, and from Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. In the first part, the contribution studies the historical dimension of Croatian emigrants in Australia while in the second stress is on the fieldwork that was carried out in 2003 in Australia, and is based on an analysis of interviews taken with the young generation of Croatian emigrants living in the state of New South Wales. Based on past researches, a reconstruction of the historical context is presented and an analysis of emigration; on the foundations of existing experiences, views and standpoints of the young generation of Croatian emigrants some conclusions were made on the lifestyle of the Croatian emigration corpus in the multicultural society of Australia. The selected cases indicate that the young generation of Australian Croats considers the knowledge of English language and post secondary education crucial for success and the achievement of wanted life and business goals. Through the increased interest in higher education, the younger generation of Croatian emigrants pointed out that they succeeded exclusively by adequate education to accomplish their goals, influence on the change of their social status and lifestyle. At the same time, the young Australian Croats give emphasis to insufficient practicing of the Croatian language, which could in due course result in total integration in the Australian multicultural society, and that they are not adequately represented in the existing associations, clubs and societies, which will in the future lead to problems regarding the taking over of the responsibility of guiding the Croatian community in Australia.

Hong Kong has been one of the early jurisdictions to adopt Public Private Partnership (PPP) model for delivering large public infrastructure projects. T he development of this procurement approach in Hong Kong has followed an intricate path . As such, it is believed that there are a number of areas which are interesting to unveil . As part of a comprehensive research study looking at implementing PPPs, interviews with experienced local industrial practitioners from the public sector were conducted to realize their perspective on the topic of procuring public works projects . Amongst these interviews, fourteen were launched government officials and advisers . The interview findings show that the majority of the Hong Kong and Australian interviewees had previously conducted some kind of research in the field of PPP. Both groups of interviewees agreed that "PPPs gain private sector's added efficiency/expertise/management skills" when compared to projects procured traditionally. Also, both groups of interviewees felt that projects best suited to use PPP are those that have an "Economic business case". The interviewees believed that "Contractor's performance" could be used as key performance indicators for PPP projects. A large number of critical success factors were identified by the interviewees for PPP projects; two of these were similar for both groups of interviewees. These included "Project objectives well defined" and "Partnership spirit/commitment/trust". Finally it was found that in-house guidance materials were more common in the organizations of the Australian interviewees compared to the Hong Kong ones. This paper studies the views of the public sector towards the topic of PPPs in Hong Kong and Australia, which helps to answer some of the queries that both academics and the private sector in these jurisdictions are keen to know. As a result the private sector can be more prepared when negotiating with the public sector and realise their needs better, academics on the other hand are provided a wider perspective of this topic benefiting the research industry at large. A matter under investigation is conversion of industrial territories in Sydney, their functions variety and influence for social and functional changes of an environment. Strict urban planning guidelines are required for conversion of territories. Mixed-use zones are developed in industrial territories which incorporate housing of a different social status, significant open spaces on the foreshore as well as high-quality commercial spaces. The principles of Australian heritage preservation under consideration are based on the Burra Charter for conservation from 1979. The most significant example of urban heritage precinct is The Rocks in the central part of Sydney. Buildings within this precinct are protected and redeveloped by guidelines which regulate the conversion process of significant industrial objects. Imigracija je uvek predstavljala ključnu karakteristiku australijskog društvenog i ekonomskog razvoja. Australijski administratori odvajaju migracioni i humanitarni program. Migracije ljudi sa kvalifikacijama i odgovarajućim radnim iskustvom u Australiju mogu pomoći u rešavanju problema nedostatka stručnjaka u Australiji i povećavanju veličine, nivoa kvalifikovanosti i produktivnosti australijskog tržišta radne snage.

Atslēgas vārdi: cilvēktiesības, migrācija, bēglis, migrants, Austrālija, Kanāda, This is an analysis of the case of Australia and Canada on respect for international human rights standards on migration matters from 1990 to 2019. Today, migration and human mobility play an important role, as migration related processes provide the ability of people and, consequently, skills, knowledge and innovation to move between different regions within one country and between different countries. Migration related issues will have an eternal spotlight and will be important in various forms. There will always be significant existing migration routes in a regions around the world or new ones, which will be supported by the current world's variability and growing economies. Looking at the case of Australia and Canada through the human rights prism and trying to find out whether it is possible to distinguish concrete actions how to make migration a positive element for a country's development, whether it is possible to distinguish certain methods that could be inherited by other countries as well. A comparative analysis in this particular study can conclude that there are different approaches to achieving both economic and cultural benefits through migration and increasing public welfare at different levels. Aspects where it is possible to learn from Australia: how to control the movement of people and prevent uncontrolled migration, how to define a national priority, such as economic growth, and by what means to achieve it, for example, attracting skilled work from other countries. Aspects where it is possible to learn from Canada: how to promote the image of the country in the world through state-level engagement, how to communicate and involve citizen communities and how to achieve a high percentage of migration but control it to maximum respect for all the obligations imposed by international human rights. Key words: human rights, migration, refugee, migrant, Australia, Canada

Rad kroz zastupljenost u institucijama zakonodavne i izvršne vlasti u Australiji (savezna razina), Novom Južnom Walesu, Victoriji, Zapadnoj Australiji, Argentini, Brazilu i Čileu analizira politički utjecaj tamošnjih hrvatskih iseljeničkih zajednica. Analiza pruža dobru bazu i početak za eventualna buduća i detaljnija istraživanja o spomenutoj tematici., The paper analyzes how the Croatian diaspora in Latin America and Australia has an influence on politics and the economy of these areas. The analysis was created to get acquainted with the contributions of these emigrant communities that have been created relatively long ago, and the stimulus is the ever-increasing emigration of Croatian citizens to the more developed countries of Europe and worldwide. The paper analyzes the political influence of the existing Croatian emigrant comunities through representation in the legislative and executive institutions of Australia (federal level), New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. Economic impact, on the other hand, is analyzed through the representation of individuals of Croatian descent on the lists of the most influential and richest people of the mentioned countries. The research was carried out with the analysis of secondary sources, especially from the official web pages of the legislative and executive institutions of the aforementioned states and of the Australian states. A time interval between 1991 and 2018 was defined. The results of the analysis show that the Croatian community, with regard to the number and the share in total population in the analyzed countries, is extremely politically and economically influential. The results also show that in the case of Croatian emigrant communities the thesis of British sociologist Cohen has been confirmed, which suggests that the political influence of the Diaspora will be greatest where it is the most numerous and the smallest or non-existent where the least numerous. The analysis provides a good basis and a start for possible future and more detailed research on the topic.

Australia is located in the southern hemisphere which means that summer in Australia starts in December, the autumn in March, winter in June and spring in September. Australia is a federation of six states: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. It also owns two mainland territories, Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory, and six external territories. As well, Australia claims ownership of the Australian Antarctic Territory. This paper deals with the analysis of geographic position and natural attraction, analysis of tourist attractions by six federal states and two territories on the mainland, and analysis of tourism indicators of tourism trends in Australia. Australia is considered to be a multicultural country because of James Cook. When he landed on the eastern coast of Australia in 1770, began the colonization of European nations. Although there has always been potential for tourism development, tourism in Australia has been slowed down because of "isolation”. Due to the air transport development and promotion of Australia as a tourist country on the most important broadcasting markets, Australia gained importance in international tourism by the end of the 20th century, and then it started to develop intensively. Despite the anthropogenic attractions, Australia is a country with remarkable natural attractions and should be considered as such.

In this study we examined intergroup relations between immigrants of different ethnic backgrounds (Croats, Serbs, and Bosniaks) originating from the same conflict area (former Yugoslavia) and living in the same host country (Australia). For these (formerly) conflicted groups we investigated whether interethnic contacts depended on superordinate Yugoslavian and subgroup ethnic identifications as well as two emotionally laden representations of history: Yugonostalgia (longing for Yugoslavia from the past) and collective guilt assignment for the past wrongdoings. Using unique survey data collected among Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks in Australia (N = 87), we found that Yugoslavian identification was related to stronger feelings of Yugonostalgia, and via Yugonostalgia, to relatively more contact with other subgroups from former Yugoslavia. Ethnic identification, in contrast, was related to a stronger assignment of guilt to out-group relative to in-group, and therefore, to relatively less contact with other subgroups in Australia. We discuss implications of transferring group identities and collective memories into the diaspora.
