- Abstract
Helicobacter pylori is Gram negative bacteria, the reason for causing peptic ulcer. There is suggestion between the presence of H. pylori in oral cavity and gastritis. The present study aimed to detect H. pylori in dental caries samples. The study included 29 dental caries patients from both sexes (13 males and 16 females), with different age groups (children and adult), and nine apparently healthy subject as a control group (2 males & 7 females). Dental caries samples were collected and investigated for this study from patients with dental caries who visited the Dental Faculty in the College of Dentistry, University of Babylon, Iraq. H. pylori antigen was detected using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique. Of the 29 dental caries patients, 19 (65.51%) patients were positive for H. pylori antigen test. Most of them were in the age group 20-30 (9 patients) & 30-40 (8 patients). The age groups (10-20) & (40-50) years shows 100% positivity for H. pylori antigen. Also, result was recorded significant higher difference's between H. pylori positive antigen between dental caries patients and H. pylori positive antigen among control group. (t=2.697,df=5, p≤ 0.05). Pearson correlation recorded significantly higher association between the presence of H. pylori antigen and the dental caries infection among test group (r=1, p≤ 0.000), 4 (44.5%) of the 9 control subjects, without dental caries, were positive for H. pylori antigen test. In summary, the H. pylori positive antigen test was recorded in both dental caries patients (65.51%) and in the control group (62.5 %). In conclusion, H. pylori antigen was present in dental caries patients. This could indicate that the bacteria H. pylori present in dental caries samples may contribute to caries processes., (Copyright© by the Egyptian Association of Immunologists.)

- Abstract
Background: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) via catheter ablation is an approved therapy for patients with drug-refractory and symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF). Furthermore, cryoballoon is now considered to be as effective as focal radiofrequency catheter ablation. This study examines the second-generation cryoballoon performance in a US multicenter review of real-world practices., Methods: By retrospective chart collections, the long-term efficacy and safety of the cryoballoon procedure were assessed in 15 US centers. All patients had a history of drug-refractory symptomatic paroxysmal AF and were treated with a cryoballoon PVI strategy at the index ablation., Results: Four hundred fifty-two patients were evaluated, and acute PVI was achieved in 99% of patients by cryoballoon catheter ablation. In 0.88% of patients (4/452), an additional focal ablation catheter was used to achieve acute PVI during the ablation procedure. Average procedure time was 128 (range 82 to 260) min, using an average of 17 (range 1 to 19) min of fluoroscopy. The most frequent adverse event was transient phrenic nerve injury (1.5%; 7/452 patients) which all resolved by the end of the procedure with no diaphragmatic dysfunction at discharge. There were no strokes, transient ischemic attacks, cardiac tamponade, atrioesophageal fistulas, or deaths during the study. At the 12-month efficacy endpoint, single-procedure success of freedom from atrial arrhythmia was 87% (393/452 patients)., Conclusions: This real-world examination of the US practice demonstrates that second-generation cryoballoon ablation by PVI strategy is safe and effective among patients with paroxysmal AF.

- Abstract
Objectives: To determine the expression of the p53 family member p73 in vestibular schwannoma (VS) and to determine the potential role of this tumor suppressor in regulating the proliferation of HEI193, a human papillomavirus E6-E7 immortalized VS cell line., Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was used to investigate the expression of p73 in 34 cases of archived VS tissue, while Western blot analysis and immunofluorescence were performed to demonstrate the expression and localization of p73 in HEI193. After transfection of a full-length p73 plasmid (TAp73alpha), flow cytometry analysis was performed to determine the effect of p73 expression on cell cycle distribution, while annexin V-FITC (fluorescein isothiocyanate) analysis and TUNEL (terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling) assay were used to measure apoptosis. The effect of p73 expression on ionizing radiation-induced cell death was also investigated with annexin V staining, TUNEL assay, and flow cytometry analysis., Results: Of the 34 vestibular schwannoma tissues examined, p73 was expressed in 14 (41%) but was not expressed in HEI193. Transfection of p73 alone resulted in increased apoptosis and necrosis, and G(1) accumulation with concomitant induction of p21. The presence of p73 also significantly increased early apoptosis (P = .046), late apoptosis (P < .001), and necrosis (P = .009) on exposure of the HEI193 cells to ionizing radiation., Conclusion: Forced expression of p73, perhaps by gene therapy, to induce apoptosis directly or to sensitize VS tumors to ionizing radiation may have relevant therapeutic applications.

- Abstract
Two hundred and seventy four dead bodies were brought to the Forensic Medicine department of Sir Salimullah Medical College, Dhaka for the purpose of Medico-legal autopsy during the period Jan '91 to Dec '91, 72.63% were male and 27.37% were female. After thorough autopsy it was found that in 19 (6.93%) cases no opinion as to the cause or nature of death could be given.
