INTRODUCTION: The main objective was to study the linguistic equivalence, validity and reliability of the transliterated Turkish version of Mind Excessively Wandering Scale (MEWS) developed by Prof. Philip Asherson in England (2016). Mind excessively wandering defines uncontrolled mental phenomena, which is proposed as the psychological counterpart of Default Mode Network in literature. METHOD: Mind Excessively Wandering Scale, Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Self-Report Scale, Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale have been used. The sample group consists of 64 patients previously diagnosed as adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder for validity, 60 students for transliteral equivalence, and 80 healthy controls for test re-test reliability. RESULTS: Transliteral equivalence study demonstrates that Turkish version of MEWS is highly correlated with the English version and is statistically significant. The sixth item in the scale was removed in order to ensure the consistency model established by LISREL in the validity study according to the confirmatory factor analysis. When the sixth item was excluded, it was concluded that the structure of the scale was compatible. In the reliability study of the MEWS, the Cronbach’s alpha value (α) of the scale was found to be 0.826. It is seen that the item with the highest distinctiveness feature is Item-10 (0.618) and the item with the lowest distinctiveness feature is Item-5 (0.318). In the linguistic equivalence study, no statistical difference was found between the English form and the Turkish versions of the scale. CONCLUSION: As a result of the practical and statistical evaluations, our study demonstrated that the Turkish version of the MEWS is a valid and reliable measurement tool.

It is well known that neurodegenerative illnesses like Alzheimer’s, which are associated with loss of cognitive functions, have been amplifying their impact on society with the increase of the lifetime expectation achieved in the last few decades. But also in the case of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders for which aging is not a dominant factor (like, for example, autism, schizophrenia and bipolar diseases), the demands of the modern life have augmented their societal importance. Unfortunately, most of these types of diseases are of difficult clinical diagnosis due to the heterogeneity of their symptoms, what leads to errors in the initial diagnosis, for example of the bipolar disorder, close to 70%, with more than 30% of patients remaining misdiagnosed for at least 10 years. Altemative/complementary strategies that may help clinicians to improve these numbers are then of great relevance, in particular when they rely in fast and cheap analytical procedures having a molecular basis. Use of spectroscopic methods for accomplishment of this goal, through analysis of body fluids and identification of biomarker-related spectroscopic features, appears as a promising approach to this problem. In fact, this approach has been shown to be appropriate for helping diagnosis of other types of diseases, like cancer and infectious diseases, for example. In this investigation, vibrational spectroscopy (both infrared absorption - 1R - and Raman scattering), has been selected as analytical technique for trial diagnosis of a series of disorders affecting the cognitive functions. Vibrational spectroscopy is a veiy sensitive analytical method to sample composition and variability; it allows fast and cheap analyses and, when the object of analysis is a body fluid, the tests can be performed without requiring patients’ multiple visits to the health units (in contrast with the clinical traditional methods). The present program of studies focusses on the analysis of blood plasma samples of patients clinically diagnosed as bearing psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disorders, in order to find proper biomarker- related spectroscopic features that can help a correct diagnosis. Chemometrics is used to perform the analysis of the spectroscopic data obtained by 1R or Raman spectroscopies, in the search for a reliable statistical model to discriminate and classify the patients according to their disease. In this poster, the results obtained for the case of autism will be presented, together with the plan designed for the ongoing studies focusing on other types of illnesses, in particular, schizophrenia and bipolar diseases (including subgroups: bipolar depressive episode, manic episode and otimic), as well the relevant information about the research consortium established to undertake these studies. It will be shown that the information contained in the infrared spectra of blood samples of autistic patients allowed for their correct classification against the control group, thus testifying the potential of the used methodology for the aimed purposes.

WOS:000373723200005 Objective: The aim of this descriptive study was to explore the attitudes of adult psychiatrists toward the diagnosis of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Material and Method: A questionnaire was mailed to all participants. The percentage of adults diagnosed with ADHD in the largest and oldest psychiatry hospital in Turkey within a year was calculated from hospital records. Results: Half of the participants displayed negative attitudes toward psychostimulants: 40% of participants reported that prescribing stimulants was a chore, 40% reported a fear of abuse, and 40% reported prescribing a non-stimulant agent. A majority of participants were unclear on the prevalence of ADHD. Records from the general psychiatry outpatient setting revealed only four patients (0.02%) diagnosed with adult ADHD. Conclusion: The results reflect an urgent need for education of psychiatrists about adult ADHD diagnosis and treatment.

Introduction: The main objective was to investigate the norm study,transliteral equilivalance, the validity and reliability of the Turkish version ofAdult ADD/ADHD DSM-IV Based Diagnostic Screening and Rating Scaledevoloped by Prof.Dr..Atilla Turgay (1995).Method: In this study; Adult ADHD Scale,Adjective Check List,SCL 90-Rand State Trait Anxiety Inventory were used. The subjects of the study were: 30patients diagnosed as Adult ADHD, 30 Patients diagnosed as Bipolar Disorder,30 patients with Alcohol and Substance Abuse, 47 students and 163 healthyindividuals (control) Transliteral equivalence, internal reliability coefficient,correlation coefficient of item summary, repeated test reliability, item reliability,construct and criterion validitity were assessed.Findings : Transliteral assesment of Adult ADHD Scale did not reveal anysignificant difference in related t test analysis both for general andsubdimensional asessments.General reliability are demonstrated with internal reliabilitycoefficients;in which the highest reliability calculated with Cronbach Alpha(,9566) and less in Spearmann Brown (.9072) and Gutmann (,9072)technics.Kaiser Meyer Olkin value over ,50 indicating sampling size is largeenough for factor analysis .Significant results in Barlett test showed thatmeasured parameters are originated from a mulltidimensional variable .Factoranalysis processed with Varimax –rotated method revealed 3 sub-dimension ofthe scale and related subdimensional variables.Results: Our study demonstrated that Adult ADHD Rating Scale Turkishversion is transliterally equivallent, valid and reliable.Key words: Hyperactivity, validity, reliability, norm studies., Amaç: Bu araştırmanın genel amacı, Erişkin Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Ölçeğinin (Adult ADD/ADHD DSM IV- Based Diagnostic Screening and Rating Scale) Türkiye koşullarına uygun dilsel eşdeğerlilik, geçerli, güvenirlik ve norm çalışmasını gerçekleştirmektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışmada, Erişkin DEHB ölçeği, Sıfat Listesi, SCL 90-R ,Durumluluk ve Sürekli Kaygı Envanteri ölçekleri kullanılmıştır.Çalışma grupları, 30 kişilik DEHB, 30 Bipolar Bozukluk tanısı almış, 30 Alkol –Madde kötüye kullanımı olan, 47 öğrenci ve 163 kişilik normal populasyondan oluşmaktadır. (n=300). Ölçeğin dilsel eşdeğerliliği, iç tutarlılık katsayısı, madde toplam korelasyon katsayısı, test tekrar test güvenirliliği, madde güvenirliliği, yapı ve kriter geçerlilikleri hesaplanmıştır. Bulgular: Dilsel eşdeğerlilik için Erişkin DEB/DEHB ölçeğinin nın hem genel toplam, hem de alt boyutlar toplamları için yapılan ilişkili grup t testinde istatiksel açıdan anlamlı bir farklılık bulunamamıştır. Güvenirlilik çalışmasında, iki uygulama arasındaki devamlılık katsayısı ,953 olarak bulunmuştur. Erişkin ADHD ölçeğinin genel toplam güvenirliğini test etmek üzere hesaplanan iç tutarlık katsayılarından en yüksek güvenirliği Cronbach Alfa (,9566) en düşük güvenirliği ise Spearman Brown (,9072) ve Guttman (,9072) teknikleri vermiştir. Kaiser Meyer-Olkin değerinin (,875) ,50’nin üstünde olması nedeni ile örneklem büyüklüğünün faktör analizi yapmaya uygun olduğu anlaşılmıştır. Barlett test sonucunun da anlamlı olması nedeni ile ölçülen özelliğin evren parametresinde çok boyutlu bir değişkenden geldiği kabul edilmiştir. Varimax rotated yöntemi ile yapılan faktör analizi sonucunda üç alt boyut belirlenmiştir. Birinci alt boyutun özdeğeri 9.182, İkinci alt boyuttun özdeğeri 7.356, Son alt boyutun özdeğeri 5.495 olarak bulunmuştur. Erişkin DEHB ölçeğinin norm değerleri de hesaplanmıştır. Sonuç: Bu çalışma ADHD Rating Scale nin geçerli ve güvenilir olduğunu göstermiştir.

Objective: We aimed to demonstrate the existence and intensity of Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity (A-ADHD symptoms) in cannabis dependent individiuals compare them with healthy controls and discuss the importance of comorbidity of A-ADHD.

WOS: 000266864100005, Objective: It is known that patients with bipolar mood disorder have a high risk of acquiring sexually-transmitted diseases (STD). The objective of this study was to evaluate bipolar outpatients regarding their knowledge on STD and possible high risk sexual behaviors, and to compare both sexes in patient group and patients with healthy controls. Method: A total of 129 outpatients with DSM-IV Bipolar Disorder (BP) in remission state and 98 healthy controls were included in the study. Participants were given a demographic questionnaire, an evaluation form about awareness of sexually-transmitted diseases, and a semi-structured form on risky sexual behavior to assess patients' sexual behavior during acute episodes of their illness. Results: In general, level of information about STD was very low. The most known STD was AIDS. 43% (n=55) of bipolar patients reported increased sexual activity during acute episodes. In BP group both sexes displayed high-risk sexual activity, but male patients especially seemed to have more risky behavior. Discussion: It is noteworthy that, although methods of protection from diseases were known to some degree, they were applied properly in neither groups nor sexes. It seems that not only BP patients but general population also need to be informed and educated on risky sexual behavior. (Archives of Neuropsychiatry 2009; 46: 52-60)

Özellikle son yıllarda ülkemizde sentetik kannabinoid (SK) kullanımı giderek yaygınlaşmakta ve bu madde bağımlılığına bağlı olarak çeşitli psikolojik problemlerin ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir. Bağımlıların madde kullanımına ilişkin zararları göz ardı etmesi gerekçesi göz önünde bulundurularak bu araştırmada SK bağımlılarında, bağımlılığa ilişkin profil özellikleri ve psikolojik faktörler arasındaki ilişkinin ortaya koyulması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini İstanbul ili Küçükçekmece ilçesinde BAYAMER'e (Bağımlılıkta Mücadele Danışmanlık ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi) Ekim 2017 tarihine kadar olan süreçte başvuran ve SK aldıkları tespit edilen ve yönlendirilen 18 yaş üstü hastalar oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma örneklemi olarak SK kullananlarda BAYAMER'de kaydı bulunan 71 kişinin tümü seçilmiş ve örneklem seçimine gidilmemiştir. BAYAMER'den alınan datalardan kullanılabilir olan 66 tanesi araştırma örneklemini oluşturmuştur. BAYAMER veri tabanındaki hastanın yaşı, cinsiyeti, medeni durumu, bağımlılık süresi, psikiyatrik tedavi sayısı ve madde bırakma girişim sayısı ile birlikte BAPİ Klinik Formu (BAPİ-k) formuna ilişkin bilgileri kaydedilmiştir.Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre bağımlılık şiddeti faktörleri heyecan arama davranışı başlığına ait varyansın %23'ünü açıklamaktadır. Bununla birlikte madde kullanım özellikleri, heyecan arama davranışını belirleyen tek ve en etkili faktör olarak heyecan arama davranışını azaltmaktadır. Diğer bir bulguya göre bağımlılık şiddeti faktörleri dürtüsellik başlığına ait varyansın %28'ini açıklamaktadır. Buna göre tanı dürtüselliği azaltmakta, şiddetli istek ise dürtüselliği artırmaktadır. Araştırmanın son bulgusuna göre bağımlılık şiddeti faktörleri anksiyete başlığına ait varyansın %19'unu açıklamaktadır. Especially in recent years, the use of synthetic cannabinoid (SK) has become increasingly widespread and various psychological problems have emerged due to this substance dependence. In this study, which was prepared considering the reasons for SK addicts to ignore the damages related to substance use, it was aimed to reveal the relationship between the profile characteristics and psychological factors related to dependence. The population of the study consisted of patients over 18 years of age who were admitted and referred to BAYAMER (Addiction Management and Rehabilitation Center) until October 2017 in Küçükçekmece district of İstanbul. The study sample consisted of 66 participants who were enrolled in BAYAMER. In the BAYAMER database, information about the age, gender, marital status, duration of addiction, number of psychiatric treatments and the number of substance abstinence as well as the BAPI Clinical Form (BAPI-k) form were recorded.According to the findings obtained from the research, dependence severity factors explain 23% of the variance of the excitement search behavior. However, substance use characteristics reduce the excitement search behavior as the single most effective factor determining thrill seeking behavior. According to another finding, addiction severity factors account for 28% of the variance of impulsivity. According to this, the diagnosis decreases impulsivity and the severe desire increases impulsivity. According to the latest findings of the study, dependence severity factors explain 19% of the variance of anxiety. WOS: 000450095400010 PubMed ID: 30042642 Introduction: The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between circadian characteristics and behavioral problems in children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (n=53), and to compare this group with healthy controls (n=38). Method: Fifty-three medication-free children with ADHD, aged 6-12 years. and 38 healthy children, age and sex matched, participated. Parents completed the Conners' Parent Rating Scale-Revised, the Children's Chronotype Questionnaire (CCTQ), and the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) to assess sleep variables. Results: ADHD children had more sleep-onset problems and parasomnias (in CSHQ) compared to healthy controls. However; circadian preferences did not differ between the groups in CCTQ scores. Another important finding was a mild correlation between parasomnia, bedtime on schooldays, and ADHD symptoms. Conclusion: Our study showed that children with ADHD showed more resistance to going to bed than did controls on school days. However, in contrast to our hypothesis, morningness/eveningness preference did not differ from controls in ADHD children. Amaç: Bu çalışmada, Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB) tanılı çocuklar (n=53) ve sağlıklı kontrollerde (n=38) sirkadyen özellikler ve davranışsal sorunlar arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi ve karşılaştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: DEHB tanısı alan, daha önce tedavi almamış, 6–12 yaş arası 53 çocuk ile yaş ve cinsiyet açısından benzer özellikte olan 38 sağlıklı çocuk çalışmaya alınmıştır. Uyku ile ilgili değişkenlerin incelenmesi için ebeveynler Conners Anababa Dereceleme Ölçeği Yenilenmiş Uzun Formu, Çocuk Kronotip Ölçeği (CKÖ) ve Çocuk Uyku Alışkanlıkları Ölçeklerini (ÇUAÖ) doldurmuştur. Bulgular: DEHB tanılı çocuklarında sağlıklı kontrollere göre daha fazla uykuya dalma ve parasomni şikayetleri vardır. Ancak, CKÖ’ye göre sirkadyen tercihleri açısından her iki grup arasında anlamlı fark bulunmamıştır. Parasomni ve okul günleri yatakta uyku için geçirilen zaman ile DEHB belirtileri arasında orta derecede korelasyon bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda DEHB tanılı çocuklarda okul günlerinde daha fazla uykuya direnç görülmektedir. Ancak, çalışmanın hipotezinin aksine, Sabahlılık/akşamlılık yönelimi açısından DEHB ile sağlıklı kontroller arasında anlamlı farklılık bulunamamıştır.
